I grew up listening to Badfinger pouring out of my sister's stereo. It wasn't until my 20s that I really started listening to them, and appreciating how underrated they were! Actually "come and get it" became the theme song for the movie The Magic Christian starring Peter sellers(original Inspector Clouseau/Pink Panther) and Ringo Starr.
Their untimely demise created a vacuum that their peers ELO filled in. Their story can cause you to lose faith in humanity and realize there sometimes is no karma and that the bad guys do win. So many others have already said it, but I'll repeat it -- the next 2 Badfinger songs you should react to are Baby Blue and No Matter What. Badfinger was definitely an underrated really great ROCK band.
You have wandered into a legendary band who have possibly one of the saddest stories in rock and roll. One of the first bands to be signed to the Beatles, Apple label. Also supported and produced by the Beatles. It all seemed to be a golden road for Badfinger but criminal management and record labels ripping them off leading to 2 suicides by band members. Beautiful music but touched with sadness when you realize the tragedy it led to. Have a listen to Baby Blue next.. another awesome song.
A combination of drugs and hanging out with occultists who screwed with their minds certainly didn't help matters. Badfinger churned out some great songs within a short period of time. I wish the ones who are gone could've stuck around to see their children and grandchildren enjoy their music.

One of my earliest childhood songs that I remember hearing!!! This hit the charts in Dec. 1971, 1 month after I was born. I remember hearing this as a toddler. This & "Lean On Me" by Bill Withers are the first two songs that I remember hearing as a baby. I came from a hit music family, so I have so many memories!!!
Badfinger was formed in Swansea, Wales, United Kingdom during 1961. "Day After Day" was the first single (10 Nov 1971) from their fourth studio album, "Straight Up" (released 13 Dec 1971), and reached number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart.

Pete Ham - lead vocals, acoustic guitar, slide guitar;Tom Evans - backing vocals, bass guitar; Joey Molland - backing vocals, acoustic guitar; Mike Gibbins - drums, percussion; Additional musicians George Harrison - slide guitar; Leon Russell - piano.
Badfinger, produced by Paul McCartney at Abby Road studio, used to be one of my favs. Try "Name of the Game", "Baby Blue" and "No Matter What." In reverse order. RIP: Pete Ham.
What a great band. Superb songwriters, musicians. With a little good luck, they would have been one of the biggest bands of their era. As it was, they should have been... The entire WISH YOU WERE HERE album, which sold about 11 copies, is brilliant. Badfinger's "No Matter What" and the Raspberries' "Go All the Way" are the two greatest POWER-POP songs of all-time. No arguments!
When John Lennon played his piano part in the studio on the song that became With A Little Help From My Friends, he had a damaged middle finger. When asked what their new song was called, John gave the song the working title "Badfinger Boogie'. The rest is history. RNB
One of the most talented rock quartets in history, but they experienced such tragedy. Very sad their career was cut short by bad management. Still, their beautiful music lives on. They were great live as well. You can find several of their live performances online.
I believe these guys were dubbed to be “The Beatles of the 70’s”. Such a tragic story about these guys. Pete Hamm had an amazing voice! And Tom Evans falsetto is amazing as well! You guys have to react to “No Matter What” and “Without You”!! 🤟🤟🤟
Great memories with this sweet classic! Thanks. And a R.I.P. to the great, far underrated Peter Ham who had so much more in him that we never got to hear.
If you're wondering why Bad Finger sounds derivative of the Beatles it is because after they signed to the Beatles label Apple McCartney and Harrison produced some of their songs, Including the song you listened to today day after day. And I can definitely hear George Harrison's guitar influence
The opening line "I remember finding out about you" is one of the most phenomenal lyrics I've ever heard in a love song. It's not about momentary infatuation or lust...it's about discovering another person. There's a depth there not often heard in love songs.

RIP the three members of Badfinger Pete Ham (April 27, 1947 - April 24, 1975), aged 27 Tom Evans (June 5, 1947 - November 19, 1983), aged 36 Mike Gibbins (March 12, 1949 - October 4, 2005), aged 56
Besides the three other recommendations most people are mentioning, I highly recommend 'Without You' and 'Carry On Till Tomorrow'! Both MUST listens! Peace & Love 😎✌❤
After Apple Records folded in 1973, Badfinger struggled with a host of legal, managerial, and financial problems, leading to Pete Ham's suicide in 1975. The surviving members struggled to rebuild their personal and professional lives against a backdrop of lawsuits, which tied up the songwriters' royalty payments for years. Their subsequent albums floundered, as Joey Molland and Tom Evans alternated between co-operation and conflict in their attempts to revive and capitalise on the Badfinger legacy. Tom Evans died by suicide in 1983, and Mike Gibbins died from a brain aneurysm in 2005, leaving Joey Molland as the group's only surviving member. New York businessman Stan Polley, who signed Badfinger to a business management contract in November 1970, Although Polley's professional reputation was admired, his dubious financial practices eventually contributed to the band's downfall.
Hey there Jay and Amber! 👋🏾 I love your channel! ❤️ I wish you would react to "Brother To Brother" by Canadian singer/musician Gino Vannelli. The album version of the same title. His voice and musical arrangements are phenomenal!! You don't know what you're missing! I promise you won't be disappointed!! 👍🏾
Many Rock power-pop songs from the 70s and 80s are derivative of The Beatles, but Badfinger more than most. It's because they were a Beatles project if you will. After signing with Apple records, (The Beatles label) they had a vested interest in their success; subsequently they were in the studio producing many of the songs on their albums
It's not really close to Paul's voice. The instrumentals and arrangement have the influence of Paul and George and the studio team, but you can't mistake the vocals.
@@tjhunger8644 Badfinger was not a "Beatles project". The influences are Paul and George, post-Beatles. Most importantly there's no touch of John's influence in this. Frankly, this is better than anything The Beatles produced. Paul, George, and Ringo all produced better music after the breakup of The Beatles. They were better vocalists, better instrumentalists, better directing their own studios, better at working with and singing with other artists. Everything about them was better in terms of quality after The Beatles. In contrast, the Beatles were derivative of every lesser known band they mimicked their sounds from. They didn't sing well together, and when a trend came along they produced inferior versions of that music. I.e. garage band, psychedelic, hard rock, orchestral, protest, folk. And frankly, I think Paul, George, and Ringo were more enlightened in the 70s. For one, Paul truly fell in love and it translated into his work. George and Ringo just seemed to have a better grasp of music. Or maybe, the three of them were held back by the studio teams and John and Yoko all along. Regardless, one thing is for sure- they sounded way better not singing together. The Beatles were the best marketed band of the 60s and perhaps all time. They were commercial and cultural phenomenons. But, imo, their music was and is incredibly overrated. And, each of them were much better individually than they were together. An opposite of the "greater together than the sum of their parts" axiom.
Badfinger was signed to the Beatles Apple label, Pete Ham was the principal writer, though the guitarist co-wrote several. Paul McCartney wrote their first hit, 'Come & get it' some of their most popular & best are 'No Matter what' 'Baby blue' The album 'Straight up' a great play on their name. Was one of the best LP's Day after day & Baby blue were on it. 3 others from that album 'Id die babe' 'Perfection' & 'Name of the game' are great songs & Perfection is ahead of it's time. George Harrison produced several of the songs I mentioned on the album he produced. They (Pete) wrote 'Without you' & let Nielsen release what became a smash hit for him. When they had to leave Apple Pete wrote 'Apple of my eye' a love song to his disbanding label. To give you an idea who they are. Or were, sadly. Love your channel & can see the genuine love you two share & bring to the channel. Beat the odds &never lose sight of the beautiful gift of a true love in your life, easier when your kids are around, just always communicate & never let your head hit the pillow mad, & you'll last together till you're on your rockers, talking about your favorite songs, as they become the soundtrack to your life & love. I had 28 great years till alcoholism a family curse on both sides, the reason I never drank, beyond one with the group after gigs, being the lead singer I had to be aware of what Steven Tyler gave the perfect definition, LSD Lead singer disorder Lol! Take care & always remember to make each other smile.
Badfinger is so underrated! Easily one of the most tragic stories in all of music as well. You guys should do a deep dive into their story...but have the tissues handy.
There are plenty of Badfinger songs to listen to, from Come and Get It and No Matter What to Better Days and Without You (yes, that one). A great group who should have had more success. Sadly, two members - and the key songwriters - would take their own lives. However, the songs of Pete Ham and Tom Evans will live on forever.
They were the first non-Beatles to record on the Beatles Apple label. In fact George Harrison produced and played slide guitar on this song. The band were named after the working title for the Beatles' 1967 song "With a Little Help from My Friends" ("Bad Finger Boogie"). Listen to their songs "Suitcase","Come and Get It" (written and produced by Paul McCartney), "Baby Blue" and "Without You" (a hit later for Harry Nillson and even later for Mariah Carey.
Another band that reminds me a lot of Badfinger that you should give a listen to are The Babys - "Isn't It Time", "Every Time I Think of You" and "Back On My Feet Again" are among their best.
I remember seeing my aunt's Badfinger album when I was a kid (she was 9 years older than me & cool as hell!) & thinking what a crazy name! But I listened to the music with her & loved it! This & Baby Blue are my favorites. I'm glad you're listening to them, they deserve to be heard!!
Huge Badfinger fan here, glad you've taken the plunge into their catalog. Most replies have already alerted you to the hits, so a few deeper cuts I would recommend from them are "Name of the Game," "Suitcase," "I Miss You," "Just a Chance," and "Meanwhile Back at the Ranch/Should I Smoke." The latter two songs are from their album WISH YOU WERE HERE, which would have been a stone classic but because of their corrupt manager, the album was pulled from stores and radio, which initiated all the tragic events that followed.
Also, a few "power pop" bands in the vein of Badfinger you should investigate are Big Star - "September Gurls," "In the Street," "Thirteen," "Way Out West" Jellyfish - "Now She Knows She's Wrong," "That is Why," "Joining a Fan Club," "Sebrina, Paste, and Plato" The Smithereens - "Blood and Roses," "Behind the Wall of Sleep," "A Girl Like You," "Top of the Pops" The Rubinoos - "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend," "Rock'n'Roll is Dead," "If I Had You Back"
BADFINGER, "DAY AFTER DAY". Great BAND, Screwed over by their manager. Causing 2 band members suicides. More.. "NO MATTER WHAT", "BABY BLUE", many times I found myself walking across town too a friend's house singing these songs too myself. UNDERRATED, never under appreciated by this fan.
Of course the seventies also brought us hard stuff like Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, but on the pop side of things, that's one thing I really miss about being a little kid listening to music on the radio in the 70s. Whether it was up tempo or slower and dreamy like this, a hallmark of it was those just really lush vocals and those certain kinds of chord progressions.
Love this group. Badfinger were a Welsh rock band from the 60's-80's. They became the first group signed by the Beatles' Apple label. Paul & George wrote & produced a few songs for them. They had some really big hits such as "Come & Get It", "No Matter What", "Day After Day", "Baby Blue" & "Without You". This group had quite a sad history. The band had bad mismanagement & lost most of their money, two members committed suicide & one died of a brain aneurysm.
Ham and Evans from Badfinger wrote the iconic hit, Harry Nilssons hit Without you, I used to watch these guys practice at a local junior school they were a couple of years older and we would watch them through the classroom window practicing.
Great band, Great music, Incredible talent that got completely shafted by their manager, George Harrison signed them and produced them but the way the contract with management was written, They barely got paid and couldn't get out of it sadly, Its a really tragic story.
The tragic side of this band cannot be overstated.. They were cheated by their management which caused the lead songwriter/guitarist to hang himself... and that in turn caused the bass player/singer to hang himself several years later... Only one of these 4 is still alive with the drummer drinking himself to death by the early 2000's.. Joey Molland is the only one left and you can find him playing state fairs and other venues as Joey Mollands Badfinger...
Amber I am going to be critical for a moment, you tend to stop the song very frequently and almost every time with less than 20 seconds left why?You also listen to the song with your eyes closed when there's a video playing watch the video it is part of the story being told it the band made it for reason and you missed it. You have done this numerous times and missed alot by doing that.Keep your eyes open the first time you see and hear a new song.
The story of Leon Russell on piano is great. Supposedly, they called him in to do the piano parts and he's listening to them do the song and they were like, " Is he going to do anything?" And what you have is what he came up with just listening in. Genius. That house I believe was the house they were living in together as their manager was robbing them blind, they were basically broke which led to 2 members committing suicide. Other greats are /No Matter What....../ Baby Blue..../ Without You.../ Apple of My Eye!
The thing about Badfinger is, you have to remember that they burst on the scene the same year the Beatles broke up. And when their debut single first came out here in America, "No Matter What," a lot of us thought they sounded curiously like the Beatles in a lot of ways. And their records were even released on the same label as The Beatles, Apple Records. I always thought this song, "Day After Day," was, by far, their best. But their list of hits, although short, was solid. Check out "Come and Get It," "No Matter What," and "Baby Blue."
Such an underrated band. "No Matter What" is the song of theirs I go back to again and again - perfect power pop!
Mine, Baby Blue.
No Matter What is a rockin' tune and Baby Blue is great but I have a soft spot for both Dennis and The Name of the Game.

Interesting. I was thinking it had a Beatle's vibe.
There’s a reason there’s a Beatles vibe to this song. Apple, and Paul in particular helped them get on the charts with “Come and Get It”

Mike Gibbins - drums, percussion;
Additional musicians George Harrison - slide guitar; Leon Russell - piano.
Either "Baby Blue" or "No Matter What" should be your next reaction.
I had forgotten about this song but while it was playing I was singing every word. Thanks for the reminder of such a great song.
Man you guys are bringing it today....the nostalgia is real today...thank you❤❤❤❤
WHERE is the bio-pic on these guys? Great sound, great hit songs, a sad tragic story. Hollywood or HBO should tell their story.
"Cut short" is an understatement. A better description would be "screwed with their pants on".
I just got transported to all those 7th and 8th grade dances I went to. I love this band. Thank you!
Paul McCartney wrote one song for them, "Come and Get It." Their regular producer was Todd Rundgren.
The opening line "I remember finding out about you" is one of the most phenomenal lyrics I've ever heard in a love song. It's not about momentary infatuation or lust...it's about discovering another person. There's a depth there not often heard in love songs.
Please check out more Badfinger:

RIP the three members of Badfinger
Pete Ham (April 27, 1947 - April 24, 1975), aged 27
Tom Evans (June 5, 1947 - November 19, 1983), aged 36
Mike Gibbins (March 12, 1949 - October 4, 2005), aged 56
The Flaming Lips "Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots" & "Do You Realize" (Official Music Videos)
One Of The Saddest Stories In Rock History..R.I.P. Pete,, Tom & Mike 🙏 ❤
Breaking bad finale... "Baby blue"
Absolutely anything by Gino Vannelli. He was all there was in the 80s. At least for me! Definitely start with "Brother to Brother"!
Raspberries - Go all the Way
John Lennon - Starting Over - Woman - Watching the Wheels
Player - Baby come back
Nazareth - This Flight Tonight
A perfect Chill song!! If someone didn't really know about this band, you can easily mistake this for a Paul McCartney song
This song is beautiful ❤️
Next for Badfinger should be "No Matter What" and "Baby Blue." Enjoy.
Don’t forget Billy Vera “At This Moment” you won’t regret it. Gotta love Badfinger too.
No Matter What, is a great one by them and a bit faster. Definitely a banger.
Firefall "Just Remember I Love You" & "You Are The Woman"
Jay & Amber, Paul Mc Cartney & George Harrison put this band on Apple Records and helped write No Matter What for them
"No Matter What" by Badfinger is the bomb Yo ! (Studio Version)
Also, a few "power pop" bands in the vein of Badfinger you should investigate are
Big Star - "September Gurls," "In the Street," "Thirteen," "Way Out West"
Jellyfish - "Now She Knows She's Wrong," "That is Why," "Joining a Fan Club," "Sebrina, Paste, and Plato"
The Smithereens - "Blood and Roses," "Behind the Wall of Sleep," "A Girl Like You," "Top of the Pops"
The Rubinoos - "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend," "Rock'n'Roll is Dead," "If I Had You Back"
BADFINGER, "DAY AFTER DAY". Great BAND, Screwed over by their manager. Causing 2 band members suicides. More.. "NO MATTER WHAT", "BABY BLUE", many times I found myself walking across town too a friend's house singing these songs too myself. UNDERRATED, never under appreciated by this fan.
No person "causes" someone elses suicide. Mental health issues cause suicide.
"No Matter What" is another one of theirs that was so good that Def Leppard covered it.
Love both versions.
Whatever you do, don't listen to Badfinger's "Rock of Ages"!
On Piano is Leon Russell, Tulsa's Great!
Other really good Badfinger songs are "No Matter What" and "Come And Get It"
Great band, Great music, Incredible talent that got completely shafted by their manager, George Harrison signed them and produced them but the way the contract with management was written, They barely got paid and couldn't get out of it sadly, Its a really tragic story.
Timbuk 3 "Life Is Hard" (Official Music Video)
OMC "How Bizarre" (Official Music Video)
They were backed by the Beatles. Baby Blue and No Matter What. 1 of these songs were very instrumental in the Breaking Bad series.
'Til Tuesday "Voices Carry" (Official Music Video)
The worst thing they did was they trusted apple 🍎 record and George bad people all problems but the best music ever
Jay & amber , Paul McCartney played piano on this song
Amber I am going to be critical for a moment, you tend to stop the song very frequently and almost every time with less than 20 seconds left why?You also listen to the song with your eyes closed when there's a video playing watch the video it is part of the story being told it the band made it for reason and you missed it. You have done this numerous times and missed alot by doing that.Keep your eyes open the first time you see and hear a new song.
So Sad On This Group.. But Another Great If You Want It👍
“ Baby Blue”, “No matter what”, and “Come and get it”!
Absolutely one of the most beautiful and unique songs of the 70's. It never gets old. Research the Beatles and George Harrison connection..😉♥️👍
You have to do Baby Blue. It made the last episode of the Breaking Bad TV series so memorable . . .
Best song by them No Matter What. Pure pop swingy beauty!
For the love of God, react to Baby Blue , it's one of their biggest hits and a grest love song.
George Harrison played guitar on this song.
