Love this band. As others have mentioned, sad, sad story to this band, but they gave us some great music. This song, "Baby Blue" (featured prominently at the end of the "Breaking Bad" series), "Come and Get it" (which was actually written by Paul McCartney), "No Matter What."
There was a guy named Stan Polley who represented the band, and totally ripped them off and left them virtually penniless. Lead singer on this song (and composer of most of their songs) Pete Hamm committed suicide. Bassist Tom Evans (who wrote the song "Without You" which was covered and made into a big hit by singer Harry Nilsson and lead guitarist Joey Molland tried to carry on, but Evans was a good friend of Hamm's and took his death really hard and Evans and Molland were squabbling over pennies of royalties and then Evans committed suicide. Drummer Mike Gibbins died of a brain aneurysm at age 56, leaving Joey Molland the only member still alive.
I never knew that! Such a sad story
Thanks for all the info. So sad about Pete Hamm and Mike Gibbons. Through their music they live on.
That bastard!! but you know..karma exist..
A very tragic end to a great band!
I always thought they should do a movie about this band, probably one of the most tragic and ripped off bands EVER!
Agreed.
Shawn & Mel, you'll love their "Come And Get It", "Baby Blue" and "Love Is Gonna Come at Last"!!!
yes-all classics and awesome!!!
"No Matter What" too!
@@rabootocoelhinho5698 They already did No Matter What.
@@debjorgo Oh thanks, I didn't know :D
@@rabootocoelhinho5698 I thought they had so I checked. But yeah, No Matter What is one of their classic greats. I like Apple of My Eye a lot too.
This band was set to blow up world wide, then their manager stole all their money. It's the saddest story ever. They are incredible.
Yes, from what I heard, a couple of them committed suicide. Awful!!😢
@@cheryljoy65 Sadly they did, the lead singer was one of them.
Probably the saddest story in rock history. Despite huge success the members of the band were basically penniless due to the corruption of their manager. Pete Ham the lead singer here committed suicide in 1975. Tom Evans the other lead singer would end up hanging himself eight years later. Stan Polley will forever be linked as the asshat that killed Badfinger. Enjoy their music, they should have been the next Beatles.
These guys wrote the Song "Without You " which was a hit for Harry Nilsson and later Mariah Carey.
In the Spring of 1967, the Beatles were recording the music track to what would become the song 'With A Little Help From My Friends' John Lennon (who was playing piano at the time ) had an injury to his middle finger. When asked by the recording engineer what the title of this new song was, John replied "Badfinger Boogie" A year later The Ivey's were signed to a recording contract with the Beatles recently established business venture known as Apple Corp. The powers that be didn't care for the name 'The Ivey's' and requested the band change their name. At which time, John Lennon christened the band "Badfinger'. So Mel, that's how they got their name. George Harrison produced and plays the slide guitar on Day After Day. Best wishes to you both, RNB
Cool factoid. ☺
@@DawnSuttonfabfour Thank you Dawn
I didn't know this. Very cool story. Thank you!
@@richardsteiner8992 Your very welcome Richard, RNB
@@ricknbacker5626 Rhythm n blues to you too 👍
Badfinger had four consecutive worldwide hits from 1970 to 1972: "Come and Get It" (written and produced by Paul McCartney, 1970), "No Matter What" (produced by Mal Evans, 1970), "Day After Day" (produced by George Harrison (George played the guitar in the original recording), 1971), and "Baby Blue" (produced by Todd Rundgren. They were the first group the Beatles signed to their Apple Records label. They also backed George Harrison in the EPIC "Concert for Bangladesh"!
"Baby Blue" is, by far, may favorite tune by this band.
Yep .. That's an absolute gem .. Never tire of it !
Me too
Yes!!!
Perfect song for WW's last scene on Breaking Bad.
Considered also dude their "without you" for me BADFINGER's best😎
Always Loved this song, even though I haven't heard it in ages upon ages. Funny no matter how long it's been, one can still remember the lyrics and sing along.
You'd really enjoy Come and Get It, fun song!!!
The Beautiful Mel & the Handsome Shawn, just what I needed today! Hugs right back to you! Love, Peace & Happiness to you from Alabama!♥️ I remember this song from 1971, I may have been just 5yrs old but I had older siblings who made sure I listened to all of the best of the 1970's music!😘
A great album produced by the Beatles on their apple records label. Reminds of 7th grade back in ‘72
As mentioned this cuts the ending off. George Harrison played slide on the studio version (which this might be), but showed Pete his style of slide so Pete could play the song live. Pete also accompanied George on The Concert for Bangladesh on "Here Comes The Sun" Great Welsh band with some helpful friends.
Hermosa canción, aquí también participa George Harrison haciendo la guitarra slide, badfinger fue una excelente banda con una corta carrera musical por los trágicos acontecimientos, saludos desde Santiago de Chile 🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱
two welsh two liverpudlian, actually
Had this on a 45. Played it a gazillion times. A nice ending was cut off here unfortunately.
Badfinger is what you think it is! They were a fantastic band who were filled with talent and screwed over by a ruthless Manager. A sad tale however not a unique one..
Yes tragic scumbags in music business ruined these guys
The Beatles produced these guys
This song was written to the girlfriend of the lead singer that left him.
All the money that they should've been getting was not given to them because of a greedy AMERICAN manager.
Due to this the lead singer was found hanging by his then pregnant girlfriend.
The bass player was found hanging in the backyard by his young son.
You can get better details on UA-cam behind the music BADFINGER
You have to do “No Matter What” and “Baby Blue!” Pure, raw music and talent! These guys were a rare breed.
Love this group. Badfinger were a Welsh rock band from the 60's-80's. They became the first group signed by the Beatles' Apple label. Paul & George wrote & produced a few songs for them. They had some really big hits such as "Come & Get It", "No Matter What", "Day After Day", "Baby Blue" & "Without You". This group had quite a sad history. The band had bad mismanagement & lost most of their money, two members committed suicide & one died of a brain aneurysm.
They chopped off the end. Anyway, a great track from the heir-apparent to the Beatles....but...a very sad story. Some have already described how they got completely ripped off by their manager.
Beautifully produced by ex-Beatle George Harrison who even played some of the guitar on the studio track. I entirely agree with your enthusiasm for this song, They have a lot of really great songs. My personal fave is 'Baby Blue' mostly because I play guitar and love to play that song.
So Much Talent,, So Much Struggling & Hard Work,, So Many Classics,, Only To Have All Their Earnings Stolen From Them.. Unbelievable.
Check out Baby Blue. Like now.
Badfinger "Baby Blue" Used at the historic end of Breaking Bad. Backed by Beatles Paul and George on Apple Records.
*They played this one numerous times every day on the radio, in the 70s...* ♥
If You've never heard Badfinger, you started with the right one. 👍👍 Now check out No Matter What. 😊😊❤❤
This takes me back to middle school/high school days.
In the seventies this played, and their other songs, Come and Get It, Baby Blue, No Matter What, Without You on the radio each and every day.
You guys reacted to them with "No Matter What."
One Of The Saddest Stories In Rock History..
R.I.P. Pete,, Tom & Mike..Thanks For ALL You Gave Us..Gone But Definitely Not Forgotten.🙏❤
Video cut off too soon. Exactly the reaction anyone should have when hearing this great song. FYI - George Harrison played slide guitar and produced this song. Other songs you should react to are No Matter What also Come and Get It ( written by Paul McCartney). Pete Ham also wrote one of the great love songs of all time called Without You recorded by Harry Nillson - he had a huge hit with it. I think you guys would like it. Badfinger was a great band that came to a tragic end. They were mistreated in the music business and two of their members committed suicide…first Pete Ham in 1975 and then Tom Evans in 1983.
Beatles band. Wonderful but very, very tragic back story.
Badfinger "No Matter What"..Nuff Said.
Ha ha don’t apologize, we love when you take it ALLLLL the way back! 🙌👍
Baby Blue
This band's book should be titled............................... " The best that never was "
thay got hoodwinked and left broke with bills to pay at home and business
I love this song. Love Badfinger.
BADFINGER, "DAY AFTER DAY". This is the 2nd song by them that you two reacted too. First was "NO MATTER WHAT". next should be, "BABY BLUE", "COME AND GET IT".
Baby blue is a must to react to.
So lucky to have grown up during the time I did. I was born in 1958 so I came up on the 60's, 70's and 80's. Best music ever!
As for how they got their name,
Apple Corps' Neil Aspinall proposed "Badfinger", in reference to "Bad Finger Boogie", an early working title of Lennon-McCartney's "With a Little Help from My Friends", as Lennon had hurt his forefinger on a piano and was using only one finger. In December 1969, the band agreed on Badfinger.
Great story!
Same here. Born in 1957 and listened to all the good music!
Born same year. Best time to be born.
Born in 1958 also! Best time to grow up! How I miss those days!! 😊
A great body of work, such great songs, tragic, shameful music biz cautionary tale. Love that liquid George Harrison played or inspired slide guitar. 8''>)
Peter Ham and Mike Gibbins. The “squabbling” between Joey and Tommy the night before Tommy died was of minimal contribution to Tom’s untimely death…., put the stongrr emphasis on crooked )criminal
Badfinger- ''Baby Blue''
I remember waking up .........after my first night sleeping with my first love (and hearing this song on the radio) when I was an 18 year old student, in early 1972 - very heady times.
A band that should be here. Badfinger were Protégés of the Beatles. They were the only band signed on to their Apple label. A big deal. You can look up why they aren’t here anymore; I’ll just say the story is heartbreaking. Badfinger. A great band with zero band songs.
How about some Roxy Music guys, band are about to set off on their 50th anniversary tour, the studio version of "Out of the Blue" with its amazing closing solo would be great!
Just check out Paul Rodgers. You could go awhile on the number of hits with different groups
And there's many great songs: Blue, Constitution, Come and Get It.
This groups story is one of the saddest in the history of rock and roll. devastatingly heart breaking. Both lead singers killed themselves as they were really young and made these great songs and totally ripped off and taken advantage of and abused in many ways by an unscrupulous older manager who stole all their money. It's just a tragedy 😪
Shawn & Mel, I know you’re jealous of us who grew up listening to this great music, but remember, it’s new to you both. So go forth and conquer the world of ‘50’s - ‘70’s music.
I wonder if you realize that the slide guitar on this song was played by George Harrison.
I've been down a Badfinger rabbit hole all week. I had no idea how tragic their story was. Makes this song even more melancholic than it already is! At least Joey Molland is still alive and well and still playing that guitar!
Baby Blue, If You Want It, No Matter What...one of the saddest stories in rock and roll but a great band.
It's Come And Get It. Not if you want it.
No matter what big hit, song on flip side of single even better, called better days.
I believe they were signed to the Apple label by Paul McCartney
A lot of Beatles influence in this band. Their history is very sad.
Badfinger is where the term "Beatlesque" comes from.
They’re very Beatles-esque. Great great band.
This song was covered by others worth checking out... Rod Stewart, The Lettermen, Engelbert Humperdinck, Savatage, to name a few. They all did a great job with this awesome song.
Paul McCartney wrote their first hit, " Come and Get It, " George Harrison produced and played slide on this song, with Leon Russel on piano. " Baby Blue " was produced by Todd Rundgren. The song, " Without You " was written by Pete Ham and Tom Evans, the guitarist and bassist of Badfinger. It became an international hit by Harry Nilsson. Despite all these high-powered connections, the group was plagued by mismanagement, legal and financial problems. Two members committed suicide, one died of brain hemorrhage. Could have been spectacularly successful band.
Brings back some welcomed and good memories from childhood. This was a good group back in the day.
Badfinger are so great. Pete Ham, the songwriter/pianist/guitarist would have had an incredible solo career. George Harrison was a fan of Pete's. He admired him alot and invited him to play for the Bangladesh concert. Their song "Without You" is one of the most covered songs ever. Love him and heartbroken by the band's story.
Great reaction to a great song! Badfinger has some really good songs. Definitely consider going down this rabbit hole. You could start with their hit song, "No Matter What".
God bless you, and thank you, I love your channel. / ps: Badfinger was discovered by the Beatles :)
Mal Evans brought them into Apple records to be heard by The Beatles
Oh you guys listening to all these great songs from my past are giving me all the feels, so glad you love them as much as we did back in the day and still do! Love your channel ♥
This is one of my favorite lullabies for my sons.
Oh how I Love you two! 💜 This is one of my favorites for sure, and fun fact . . . Rod Stewart does an Amazing version of this song 😘 Thanks for another great reaction!
Love this song 😀👍 thanks Shawn and Mel ♥️
Badfinger was such a tragic story
This is great ,you guys are so positive…. Love all music !! ❤️❤️🎸🎸
My generation was/is spoiled by the music of our times. Like fine wine it only gets better and better!
Badfinger, great group and great song too. Awesome reaction guys - come and get it - baby blue - without you - take it all - have a great day S&M.🤘🔥🔥🔥
These guys should’ve become THE BEATLES 2.0; they were that good. They basically started out that way, and they had the Fab Four’s blessing as well, singing on their Apple record label.
The FIRST band that the Beatles signed to their new Apple Records label company... Welsh rock band...
Btw, almost everything they did was FANTASTIC, so check them out!!
no matter what, should be the next song you do by them. great song
True. Such a great song that Def Leppard covered it some years back...
Great band...great song....GREAT reaction! love ya'll!!
Where did the group name come from? According to Wikipedia:
The band renamed themselves Badfinger, after the working title for the Beatles' 1967 song "With a Little Help from My Friends" ("Bad Finger Boogie").
Their first hit, Come And Get It was written & produced by Paul McCartney. This song, Day After Day, was produced by George Harrison. They had a great sound & several hit songs you'll enjoy.
This song always gets me when I think of how badly these guys were screwed over by the same man that screwed over Sam Cooke. By the way, if I remember correctly George Harrison from the BEATLES produced this song and LEON RUSSELL is said to be playing the piano. George couldn't produce the whole album because he was organizing his Concert For Bangladesh so TODD RUNGREN stepped in.
George Harrison produced Badfinger and gave them the name. Badfinger was the first group signed by the Beatles Apple Record's, I believe.

Hi Shaun &,Mel,
We know you love beautiful harmonies and melodies, judging from your reaction to doo wop/Franki Valli & 4 Seasons/'60s pop music. Please, please, please react to 'This Boy' by the Beatles. I believe you both will love it and put in your playlist.
Requested music, Jackie Moore: Precious Precious, 1970's music my name is The Kid , good music.
Their version of "Name of the Game" with orchestra backup is pretty awesome. FYI, "Day After Day" actually has a longer ending that wasn't in the video.
They are from Swansea in Wales. I grew up to Badfinger in the 70s. Excellent band. George Harrison of the Beatles discovered them and also played guitar on this song as it's very distinct. Also they were the first band to be signed to Apple Records (Beatles label) Paul McCartney gave them their hit "Come And Get It" It was terrible what happened to Pete and Tommy because of their sheisty manager but their music lives on as the great classics. Pete Ham wrote "Without You" that Harry Nilsson turned into a hit.
George Harrison, the Beatles' lead guitarist and composer of such Beatles' classics as the jazzy "Something," the shimmering "Here Comes the Sun," and the majestic "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," played the gorgeous bottleneck slide guitar solos on this track. He also produced the song, which was a major hit for the ill-fated Badfinger.
Sublime slide guitar by George Harrison, who produced the track
That ended prematurely. Weird. FANTASTIC song...fantastic band....and one of the saddest stories in music history. This album was started with a producer whose name escapes me. Sessions produced nothing very usable so they brought in George Harrison (that’s his slide guitar playing here). George had to leave the project due to his commitment to the Concert for Bangladesh (the original ‘Live aid’j so the record company brought in Todd Rundgren to finally finish the project. He did....produces a stellar album, although there was some friction during the sessions. Either way, he/ they got it done. I hope you will check out more from these guys but if I could recommend one song it would be ‘Baby Blue’. One of the best power pop songs ever committed to tape. The last verse still give me chills 50 years later...
The 70's had some of the most amazing, sweet and romantic music.
2 members hanged themselves. Beatle George Harrison contributed the lead guitar on the original recording. This is probably the most Beatle-esque sounding band ever. They also wrote (Can't Live If Living Is) Without You, which was made into hits by other artists.
Great Band this is the music we grew up on in the 70 . I was 11 years old riding my bike listening to my transistor radio .Band Finger Great Memories .Enjoy
Shawn & Mel, if you love this song then please react to Precious and Few by Climax, from 1972.
I love Badfinger...you really need to react to their song 'Baby Blue'...Please.
great band with a sad ending, both main lead singers committed suicided, PETE HAM hang him self at his garage early 70's after their road manager run away with their money, then in the 80's TOM EVANS also hang him self at a tree at his home due to song royalties problem with one of the group members
Badfinger was a staple in the 70's.....check out "baby blue" and "no matter what" for starters
A great band with a sad ending
Not that you'll ever see this...and probably even less that you'll care...but:
Thanks for all your great videos. I've watched a lot of yours.
And I love the new wall!
(As an aside, regarding the tile...acoustic-tile should be installed with the ribs going opposite to the tile next to it.
An easier to say it in this case would be: all black ribs running vertical, and all blue ribs running horizontal.
It matters in terms of true sound deflection...probably not so much when being used as a visual background.)
Per Songfacts Badfinger guitarist Peter Ham wrote this song, which has a pleasing melody but tells the story about a lovelorn guy stuck in his lonely room day after day.
It was one of a handful of hits for Badfinger, and their highest charting song in America. Their story turned tragic when in 1975, after a dispute with their record label over missing money, Ham committed suicide.
Maybe Tomorrow and Beautiful & Blue are also worth a listen. McCartney renamed the band Badfinger, they were originally called The Iveys.
FINALLY a reaction channel looks at Badfinger! They got the name from a piano song played by their first manager early on, The Badfinger Boogie.
They were the first band signed to the Beatles Apple Records. George Harrison played slide guitar, Leon Russell played piano and I think it was produced by Todd Rundgren
How about trying out some The Babys? ua-cam.com/video/LvvGgqV6SGo/v-deo.html
Just found you guys today and I'm binging you hard! I'm 59 and love seeing reactions to the music I grew up with. We had it so good then.. every radio station was playing great music all the time. We were spoiled and didn't know it.
