Just remember people, a humidifier can make you really sick if you don’t clean it often. With this machine i would definitely recommend the warm mist on the warmest setting if you don’t plan to clean it often. That way at least the bacteria and potential viruses are killed before it comes out of the machine and out in the air. And I would also recommend using bleach(google how you use it) to clean the machine, just vinegar and especially when it’s watered out is not enough to kill all bacteria and other stuff in the machine. Just a tip. If people only knew how much bacteria and other nasty stuff that grows in humidifiers i bet people would clean it more often. It’s nasty...when that is said, i love this machine. Don’t go over 10 days with the cleaning. Humidifiers are perfect breeding grounds for bacteria, fungus and other pathogens.
Just ordered an elechomes humidifier second hand, and I’m so stoked that I can finally stop refilling my tiny humidifier every six hours lol
They are so great, you'll love it! And wow every 6 hours haha you are dedicated
Ordered mine today can’t wait till it comes in and when I need to clean it I’m going to watch this video again
LMAO GIRL u rly had to call me and my slimy humidifiers out w this video like that?? I need to clean them like today 😭
I just got this exact model a few days ago so it was really helpful to watch you clean it! I really love it so far. I have mine set at 60% humidity.
Never knew watching someone clean their humidifier could be so satisfying. Great video :)
I HAVE THE EXACT SAME ONE. I TOTALLY DIDN'T THINK TO ADD TGE VINEGAR. IM SO GLAD YOU DID THIS. 💓 I LOVE IT. THANK YOU 😊
Giving all of us the much needed motivation to clean our grimy humidifiers 🤭
hahah the chore that every plant parent hates, I'm sure
Thank you for reminding me I need to clean mine 😅 I've got the same Elechomes one and I do love how it's easier to deal with than other humidifiers!
Yeah, it's great! And no prob haha it feels good once it's done :)
I would suggest to take it off the wall. The directions say not to place the machine against a wall or it will give you errors and wrong percentage of humidity in the room.
Also, keep on top of cleaning them. I love my levoit and do make sure to deep clean weekly (with very diluted bleach) or no longer than 2 weeks tops. I also use filtered water and not tap.
You always the perfect videos and exactly when I need them most lol
My Levoit stopped working at one point as well but cleaning it did the job and now it's fine again :)
I use a cheap paint brush to clean my humidifiers, helps reach those tiny crevices
That's a great idea.
I use straw cleaners and bend them sometimes
Ooh great idea👍 I also use pipe cleaners for those real tiny spaces
Thank you for that idea.
Mine is dirty it’s embarrassing
Omg I was just wondering when you’d upload a video on this! I really need a humidifier for some plants I’m planning on getting in the future ☺️
Perfect! Hope it answered your questions :)
Omg i have a elechomes humidifier!! I have it in my bedroom to sleep better because I have the AC in my room! Maybe I'll bring more plants in here!
I started putting those humidifier cleaning things in the tanks of my humidifiers. Helps sooooooo much!!!
Woah what are they??
@@alexissolidrock just search “humidifier tank cleaning fish”. You just drop them in the tank once a month. No white residue at all. And less mold. I still have to clean them but not nearly as frequently.
I need to get some plant humidifiers. I have a couple small ones I've found while thrifting
100% needed this video 😂
Perfeccccttttt hahah :)
Thank you, this was very helpful! I just bought a humidifier.
Awesome!! Glad to help
Those lashes, I think I'm in loooooooove
Sometimes when i dont feel like refillin mine i jus take the lid off to let it dry until i feel motivated to refill them. It helps with some of the gross slimy stuff.
The video i needed rn thankyou
You're so welcome
Yes it's for essential oils. I drip my peppermint oil on the little spongy thing and you place the cap back.
Thank you for this demonstration! I just started using humidifiers and I have two elechomes and I love them. I use distilled water because I dread cleaning them but buying the water is such a pain 😩. Mine are black so I’m afraid I won’t even be able to tell if they are dirty. One day I’ll stop being lazy and just do it.
I have two Taotronics. A 4 l and a 6 l. Really awesome humidifiers. Both have humidistats.
Nice job 💕😎
Been looking for a decent extra humidifier that holds more water and i just checked for this one on Amazon (uk) mostly priced at £79.99 but am so happy had a extra look and came across one at £69.99 with 30% extra off added at checkout so so getting it for £48 (approx) my math is rubbish lol 😆 so happy to have found this wee bargain....thanks Fern 🤗🪴
Fern, OMG, the struggle is real with the dusty film you can get if your water is high mineral content. I just took both of mine down, cleaned them and put them away. The mineral dust was EVERYWHERE!! Even inside of the cabinets. I spent last weekend cleaning it up and had to do my windows as well. :(
Humidifier that top fills OMG I need one!!! I am so fed up of my Levoit that you have to take off the tank and turn upside down to fill!!! Funnily enough I looked inside my humidifier today and it’s spotless (never cleaned it in 6 months). I do use filtered tap water, the water where I live is really hard hence me having to filter the drinking water.
I have 2 of them and love them. I used distilled water only.
They work great :)
I’ve also had a ton of issues with the levoit! It leaks water, sometimes it won’t stop putting out mist even if it’s set to a certain percentage so I end up with water settling in all my surfaces and I have to refill it way more often. Mine also is becoming really loud. Plus it’s not too filling, so all around not my favorite at all. Especially frustrating with how expensive it is for it to be giving so many problems
Oh my gosh THE LEAKING yeah... very annoying. If the cap isn’t on in a very specific way it drips water everywhere 😑
Tap water helps to build that slime and everything - it still has minerals in it. I use just distilled water and I don't have this type of problem :) (also clean it every Sunday with alcohol and water) From a health perspective, it is a risk to breathe it :D
I have 2 levoit humidifiers one is like yours but i haven't had any problems with mine. So that's good. After i clean it with distilled vinegar i then soak everything in bleach/water mix. I never thought about running them with a little bit of vinegar though. I will try that when i don't use the bleach/water cleaning.. (It's not my favorite thing to do either so now i have hard white stuff stuck behind the filter pad. So it's better to clean every week or 2)
I'm glad yours are working well for you! And the bleach mix is actually a really great idea.
I want to have an elechomes humidifier someday...I have a really small humidifier right not that stopped working, so I’m using a diffuser 🙄 haha
OMG. I see people post about cleaning them weekly but I seriously canNOT. I clean mine maybe once every other month. I only use it in the colder months anyway.
I bought a Levoit humidifier and it started doing the same thing about a month after the purchase, which was such a bummer because I was so stoked:( I would love to know if your problems are resolved by cleaning it!! Mine will currently run and run until it’s dry when before it wasn’t putting anything out because it said the humidity was super high.
Do you use the kind that steams the water, or some other kind? I'm thinking of buying one and don't really know if i can invest in a steaming one
💚💚
After opening my humidifier this morning and being disgusted at the state of it I feel you made this video for me! 🤣
Hahah! They get nast
I have the larger elechomes and I love it. I've had it for months and never cleaned it...ooops.
I'm scared my levoits doomed now. I've only had it since Christmas but it recently stopped putting out mist and says the humidity is 70%+ and I just really don't think it is. I just ordered some humidity readers last night so I can know for sure. I'm gonna give it a clean tomorrow and hope it works again. I'm curious if yours ever started working again after a good clean or was it just toast?
Such a bummer, I thought I was getting top of the line. Definitely gonna work on an elecholmes for my plant room instead.
It is running again but it says the humidity is 90% when it's only around 50%.. so weird.
I have the same humidifier and it’s disgusting when I clean it - a bit orange like yours too. I have a dedicated toothbrush that I use but it’s so hard to get into the nooks and crannies. I still haven’t figured out how to do it. 😭
Such a helpful video! I was going to message you about your humidifiers! Thank you for all of the details :) also your eyelashes look amazing!! are they falsies, eyelash extensions?
Hi everyone! Can’t wait to watch the video fern. Lysm. I have a question for anyone out there:
I have a calathea whitestar and it is starting to get these rough edges. They are like a yellow colour but feel very wrinkly almost? I thought it was because it has little humidity so I have been misting it a lot but I am not sure if it’s working, anyone have any advice?
Thanks!
Oooh good luck, I have the same problem with mine! I think inconsistent watering might have something to do with it in my case.
If it isn't lack of humidity causing it I would recommend using filtered or distilled water. I just use a knock off filtering pitcher and it works well for my sensitive plants. What causes this problem is there are chemicals and minerals in the water that more sensitive plants can't process so they push them out to the sides of the leaves and that can causing crisping or even too soft edges.
Misting isn’t a very effective way of raising humidity sadly. It’s humid in the area of the plans for merely a few seconds before the water evaporates or settles. Definitely use distilled or filtered water to water any Calathea or Maranta and you probably will need a humidifier to keep them happy. Some people put them in their bathrooms if there’s adequate light because it tends to stay a little more humid in there. I have several calatheas and Marantas and I have no choice but to run a humidifier over them or else they get crispy. They’re divas for sure!!!
Thank you for all the replies. I have been used filtered water after having a ‘ accident’ .
For the humidifier! Do you think a humidifying tray will work? The ones with the pebbles and the water? My roommate is very sensitive and doesn’t like it when it’s ‘ humid everywhere ’. I am not planning to get one ( humidifier) until I move out,.
Thank you all so much for the replies
@@wildfern I put a tooth pick in mine to check if the top 2 inches are dry. Is that okay or is that not a good way of telling if the plant needs water
the way i never know where the mini brush is EVERY time i clean my humidifier. looking for it is part of my routine at this point 🤦🏻♀️
Hahahah omg so true 😆 we should tape it to the back or something
I didn't expect the humidifier to look like that... I guess I keep mine SQUEAKY 😂 (I use filtered water which probably helps because I clean it once a month)
ALSO I had a smaller one that I kept in the bathroom & it got dirty WAAAAYYYY faster (both from Tao Tronics)
How close to your plants you place the humidifier?
Do you use regular or distilled water?
BC tap water is sooo good tbh so maybe that’s why??
Yes that is why :) many people have to use distilled water but luckily our tap water is great
uh oh, Fern cleaned hers that means I have too as well......
Do you run it in the spring and summer? I’m in Chicago and our humidity gets higher.
I do, but it doesn't spray the mist or "turn on" as often to maintain the humidity because it doesn't need to.
@@wildfern thanks queen!
Don't you run the risk of mold in your house if your humidity is at 75%?
I am amazed how the part can get so dirty just from water... 😲
nice done
girl 😇🤔🤔👍👌👌
My fellow Canadian. You have more than 60.5K subscribers. There is no way on earth I'd be trying to "fix" it. I would contact Levoit and let them know my subscribers would like to know, why their humidifier is making so much noise in the background of my videos. Levoit humidifiers are not cheap as every plant lover knows. Maybe they will fix it or maybe they will send you a new one to review. Good luck! Love from Ontario.
Not me having to do weekly runs to the grocery store specifically to get purified water for my humidifier 👁 👄 👁
Hahah the dedication for real!
Mine gets that yuck slim too.
“The room will smell of vinegar for a day” 😳 sounds like a nightmare to me.
You can take the grey weight out lol
I had a problem with my Levoit not turning on after having it for about 4 months, but then when I took it apart and cleaned it according to the instructions (just like how you did in your video with the Elechhomes) it started working good as new. However, I think the fact that it's not a top fill is just way too annoying and the next time I buy a humidifier it will NOT be the same kind.
Why don’t you close the closet sweety)
Lame. Someone just needs a lot of attention.
I feel like you should be a little more cautious when doing videos on things that can do significantly affect peoples health. I actually couldn’t even watch this whole video. As soon as you said that you don’t wash them as often as you should, and laughed about it, was a huge red flag. Just so everyone here knows, when humidifiers are not cleaned, and not kept clean, whatever is growing inside them becomes aerosolized and you breathe that in. This can be particularly harmful for people who have asthma and allergies. But it’s really not good for anyone. They should be dumped out and wiped out daily. They should be deep cleaned with bleach or vinegar at least weekly.
Bleach?! That’s the last thing I’d want to be breathing in 💀
@@wildfern Agreed. That's why you dilute it and rinse very very well. If it makes you more comfy, use vinegar. But that needs to be rinsed just as well. Best of luck.
