Nice video. I just bought the Dyson two weeks ago. I don’t mind the cleaning, it’s not difficult. I don’t mind the fact that filling the reservoir is slightly more difficult than my last humidifier. I like not having filters. I like not having the quiet, the control of the Dyson. I love everything about it, other than the fact the reservoir tank is small and you do have to fill it every day. An inconvenience, not a dealbreaker. Thanks for the great video guys, being a consumer is hard and videos like this help people! (Still loving my Dyson though lol)

I bought the the dyson for the uv light because even though I routinely clean the machine, I still wanted to make sure that it wasn’t spraying mold into the room. The water tank opening is not much of an issue for me, but after three years of owning the Dyson, it’s gotten harder to remove the tank because somehow the white remover button is not working properly. The fan and cool mist is a blessing during hot summer nights.

Mold or bacteria. Boom. Didn't even mention it. This fucking idiot is talking about minerals which are a problem with ANY humidifier that utilizes atomized water rather than evaporation. Smfh

    • @milosaradojevic
      @milosaradojevic 2 роки тому

Bacteria hardly grows in enough number in a humidifier to be able to be contaminant in a house (with proper cleaning of the device, at least once monthly), you will have virtually no bacteria from the humidifier. (it also depends how often you use it. Putting a tap water every day introduces fresh chlorine that kills the bacteria off). You are not protected by UV light from mold, DEAD MOLD is alergenic and is POISONOUS. So unless Dyson somehow disinfect with UV light the whole container, you will still be getting that bad things mold can do, even with a UV light. And he is right, you will not be protected by it.
Although a commercial, it's not far from the truth, and truth being is that you don't get anything special to have a good humidifier, just to clean it more often. Even a 20$ chinese one from Aliexpress will do the same job, just it will be more probably unsafe due to bad electrical wiring and water.

Well my Am10 started giving a F2 error code and since I was told my unit was out out off warranty since January I had to purchase a uv lamp at £60 ( Seriously £60 for a $3 cost for a product made inFar east) unfortunately for me that didn't fix the problem.
Rang Dyson and they now wanted me to pay £99 for them to collect the unit to repair it (paid £479 for a unit that didn't last 30 month's) , I decided best send the lamp back and get a refund and spend £150 on a different humidifier/Fan.
Bye Dyson your products are becoming second grade while you charge premium prices.

With the Levoit, you can’t clean the path the vapor takes between the tank and the exhaust. I’ve had mold there on other humidifiers. The Dyson kills mold before the water becomes vapor, and cleaning is much easier as a result. It’s usually impossible to clean the “chimney” on models like the Levoit without voiding your warranty. I wish they went over that.

I'm sorry but most of this review seems very nit-picky and whinny about the cleaning procedure of the Dyson humidifier. It doesn't seem that difficult plus every humidifier I have ever owned always states in the manual to "never use tap water and only use distilled water to prevent mineral scaling". Plus most Dyson humidifiers models have a UV system to kill 99.9% of bacteria to prevent any illnesses that you may get from stagnant stale water.

I personally own the Dyson PH01, I've had it for just over a year now and couldn't be happier with it. My daughter and I moved to Texas from California and we struggled with allergies mightily. Since getting the Dyson we have not had any issues with allergies. The Dyson Ph01 will let you know when its due for cleaning and it cleans itself. I keep my humidity level up about 50% and I also recommend using distilled water. I burn incense in my house and it usually takes the Dyson about 20 to 30 minutes to get the air clean. Going to buy a second one to keep in my daughters room. Anyways The Wirecutter is always critical of top brands and sometimes rightfully so but being a Dyson owner I thought I'd come on here and let some of the viewers no I highly recommend it.

I ran a couple of the cheaper (but well reviewed) humidifiers and then the Dyson AM10. When measuring the air quality it was CLEAR the cheap humidifiers were pumping bacteria filled vapour into the air, really really bad on the first device, bad on the second, buy the Dyson did not trigger my air quality monitor once. They will both equally humidify the room one humidifier the less expensive one, will require less filling and is easier to clean than the way more expensive Dyson that will need to be filled more often all things being equal. If the cheaper Levoilt or whatever brand you buy should break or get too dirty to bother cleaning you could throw it away and purchase two more plus a circulator fan and still be ahead of buying the Dyson now that’s simple math.

It's good because it can multiply the air throughout the room equally, and the testing this company does is beyond tough and even proven more accurate, wire cutter doesn't have the testing facilities Dyson has, ive seen them, its amazing, thier testing is far more accurate too. They make sure everything is well made, and also giving the consumer a good product, they also listen to their consumers, one reason they modified the TP04 purifier to blow the air backward when it gets cold so its not hitting your constantly. Dyson does make very good products that are truly worth the money and they innovate unlike most companies, their prices do drop as well when new tech comes out, as well on sales.

I mean really are you filling it with a shower head what kind of critique is that. I own one of both and the Dyson does work better than the Levoit; the multifaceted nature also is a plus. I would like to know what their testing was and what numbers they got because my AM10 gets over a days use on Auto and around 6-7 hours on 70% which is too high to humidify a home at anyway

Water that is being dissipated in the house from device is a measure of humidification. Since Dyson has small tank, it's dissipating smaller amount of water for one run. Humidifier device typically cost 20 bucks, on a wholesale 2 bucks. If you (or anyone is ready to spend 300 times more for a final product, let it be, but technically Dyson is just a hugely overpriced items seller.

Cleaning doesn't sound impossible, but not easy if you're looking to clean it every week, my opinion. What sold me was the UV that cleans the water and the fan. But if the fan doesnt improve the distribution of humidity all thats amazing is the UV killing bacteria, dont think $500 is worth it. Going to do some more research on this, but this review was informative, thanks.

It's better to have a humidifier that boils the water. Then it's zero bacteria in the water that spreads, and much less risk of mold. And you do not have any residue that will stick to everything in the air (like lime and other 'hard' stuff in the water).

@@apoorvachandras To distill water, you boil it and then condense it. Why? Because lime and other minerals cannot exist in the vapor form of water. And a boiling humidifier does just that - boil the water so there is almost no minerals that will follow the water up (if you boil hard enough, the water may splutter and thus minerals can follow). Here you can see the residues (test this yourself - mix water with salt, lime, dirt, ... and then boil and condense the vapors on a lid or something and see that you have none or almost none of the minerals left, but they end up in the pan) ua-cam.com/video/0-Hzui4Qpl4/v-deo.html

@@AlexMercadoGo we stopped installing these sytems years ago. Super maintenance heavy and can be prone to flooding as the pans can crack. Those things arent rated very well. But if u can use reverse osmoisis system it will reduce all the gunk to very little also cutting way down in maintenance. But that stuff isnt cheap with having to change pads and parts going out. If u got the money to do everything and do it right they can work. In 08 when the crash hit noone had money to maintain em and had to get rid of em and they never went back.

The mechanical ultrasonic atomizer type of humidifiers disperse the lime scale into the air. The Levoit looked like a mechanical atomizer. Ordinary evaporative machines don't do that. The lime scale gets left behind in the bottom tank which has to be dumped periodically.

This is stupid. All the negative things you list are irrelevant. What matters is if it does the job well and that it does. None of the other products are even close. The filter on the Honeywell is a disaster and it’s noisy as hell. The Levoit will leave deposits on your walls and puddles on your wooden floor.
If you care about your health enough to buy a humidifier, you should care enough to clean it.

Update: I bought the Philips Humidifier Series 2000 and it’s fantastic. The main thing about any humidifier is hygiene. Keep it clean. Store it dry when leaving for a long time. Something that purifies water into air that goes into your lungs needs serious care. If you care about your health enough to buy a humidifier, care enough to clean it. Get the Philips, it’s great.

This comment seems completely out of tune with human habits and psychology. I had a cool-looking humidifier. I hardly ever refilled or cleaned it, and when I did, I couldn’t clean it well enough. So it was useless. Now I have the cheap, ugly, easy to clean Wirecutter pick, the Wirecutter pick Honeywell HCM-350. I use and fill it daily and clean it once per week. This review is on the nose.

@@Shankovich I did indeed. What do you disagree upon? Ease of cleaning, water capacity, and ease of filling were all points discussed in the video. If this were a $30 humidifier any of these shortcomings would be excusable, but the fact of the matter is that this is marketed as a premium product and retails for $250+, and that's exactly what the video criticizes.

He's lying. The problem with a humidifier with no fan, is the pocket of water that builds up a foot in front of it. The water just stays in a small area around the machine, the water particles do not travel around the room unless you have air movement. Get a humidifier with a fan, otherwise you'll saturate the area around it, and not around the room.

Good reviews but you missed the mark about the most important thing. Who cares about the cleaning, it’s got a UV cleaner. If you fail to clean the thing both are useless. But at the end of the day which one distributes humidity better at the end of the day. Lazy vs effectiveness.
    Update****
Everything you said about cleaning is true after trying both. But the Dyson hands down performed better and evenly. Harder to clean, but at the end of the day, are you buying it to help get over a cough or make it more convenient to clean? Dyson was worth every penny minus the cleaning.

It's two devices in one, the fan works independently, the levoit does not have a fan, therefore you would also need a fan if you prefer to sleep with one on. I bought both Dyson and Levoit. At the end of the day, both of them trashed. They are not bad as a humidifier, but cleaning is a bit issue. Dyson's tank you can only clean using a vinegar rinse, and Levoit has chimney you cant put water in. I am sorry my crazy clean OCD. If I cant scrub the inside of the tank, it is not clean. Vinegar rinse is not good enough. I know Dyson has UV light, yes I know, but my OCD will not allow me just to imaging if there's any ancient slime stuck inside the tank that I didnt know about. OH lord, clean OCD has ruled my life. One study shows at least 15 mins of UV exposure to inactivate COVID. I really like the UV idea very much, but if I cant scrub it clean, its not clean. At then end of the day, I bought Miro. Miro allows me to clean every single piece of the machine. All I need is a sponge and soap to completely wash every single inch. I am finally happy.

What a terrible review, if it can even be labeled as such. You're clearly doing the infomercial thing where they make perfectly reasonable scenarios into "nightmare scenarios" and insist there's a better way with a cheaper product (that will fall apart 10x faster than the Dyson). I've had my AM10 for a year and a half and I'm just fine with having to clean it and fill it -- it's called "maintenance."
