It's pretty small in Bedrock. You don't die in it in creative mode and just hit an invisible barrier after like 30 blocks. Don't know if there actually could be anything below there, but that's what I know.
Just for the record, 2^1024 is the number limit that was set for modern computers; a limit had to be set to separate a real value from what is effectively infinity. I think it's safe to say that number is a pretty good one.
it is bc of how doubles work. and yea its unbelievably high. hell even 340 undecillion (float limit) is high as fuck and already contains literal billions of universes by itself
@@tristantheoofer2 It's not so much that we "need" numbers that large, but we need numbers as large as Doubles with higher precision and less floating point loss. (precision loss happens because there's only 32 bits in a floating point value, and having a higher number means there's less bits for the fractional part) For gaming, this is entirely people stress testing the limits of the game and 100% overkill. Numbers this huge, or atleast numbers above 2.14 billion with good precision floating points are important for scientific and industrial uses, and of course, computing in general. In short, yeah the limit of a 1024 bit number was set simply because, going any higher would be a waste of bits and highly redundant.
[3:45] In Geometry Dash we call that X pos limit, when you unable to move futher, but there's also lesser known Y pos limit, that could have weird consequences like that. You are unable to move further and your player model distorts. So it's not only in Minecraft, it's in a lot of games, apparently.
I love how people compare numbers in an infinitely generated game (specifically Minecraft) to real world measures of time and space. It usually starts to get existential around the midway point of the video, but you made it so I didn’t question what I meant to live in this universe. Good shit man, keep it up 👍
By the way, you can write a fabric mod with mixins instead of decompiling minecraft. It modifies the java bytecode in runtime. It's really cool stuff if you know a bit of java

Subscribed. That last part makes me wonder about other minecraft thought experiments involving large spans of time. Like, how long would it take to mine every block in all three dimensions, or how long would it take to fill every available space in all three dimensions with blocks, or how long would it take to get every achievement in every single seed?
I remember watching a hispanic Minecraft video titled "El verdadero 100% de Minecraft" (The true Minecraft 100%), About how much time you will take to do almost everything you could do in Minecraft in survival on every seed and the final result was: 4,725,537,805,442,420,000,000,000,000,000 years (That video didn't counted stuff you could only do in creative so it would be interesting to see how much time it would take to do everything individually)
fr lol. if they made the y axis gen actually infinite then stuff would actually generate up that high too since the farlands exist on every axis (the y axis ones 2x as far away as the x/z axis ones)
@@tristantheoofer2if they actually did do that watch the "I SURVIVED OONE HUNDRED DAYS IN 'whatever the hell the part after the observable universe is'"
What always bugged me when i play in creative is how the hard limit up high is literally just a wall, unlike the void where it suffocates you. It would be cool if going to high in the sky with an elitra (lets say 300-400 blocks above the build limit) caused you to take damage.
In Bedrock, it stops at a certain point not far below the bottom of the world. If you're in creative, you can just walk around down there as if you're walking on regular blocks. Fun stuff.
4:08 imagine being a minecraft character and just going in the nature and suddenly a mysterious creature types random numbers, and within the blink of an eye you get stuck in the void, the sky does not exsist and has been taken by flashing colors, and you will probably be there until you rot or probably get teleported with cordinates again
well this gave me an existential crisis because it made me realize just how small we really are and how short are lives really are in comparison to these insane numbers

A bit of a suggestion when you're doing voice editing; It's fine to go back and redo a line, in case you trip over it. Keeping a consistent, flawless voice over will improve the content. What I usually do, is write down what I want to say aloud, and then follow it while recording. It makes it easier not to trip over words. Also, please try to cut out inhales and longer than average gaps in between sentences/words. The breathing sounds can be pretty distracting. Some extra time on the audio can make the listening experience so much better, and as a result, a much higher quality production.
honestly thank you for this my dude! i was wondering how people actually got their breathing out of the audio lol. and keeping a flawless voice is fairly hard but i will def try
@@tristantheoofer2 You can generally zoom into the timeline in whichever editing software you're using, and look for where the audio timeline drops to almost a solid line, but with a very, very small bump in audio. You'll generally have to zoom into that audio track vertically, to make the wave lengths more visible, but it makes it easier to see. I hope it helps :D
@@tristantheoofer2Also what really annoyed me was constantly hearing the breaths taken. Its like music in a way. Nobody wants to hear the singer take a breath. All in all great video great style but bad audio.

Hey Jay, I doubt you're gonna see this but you should do more of this content. In Poland we had a youtuber who used to make videos like this almost a decade ago. And it wouldn't be a big deal if not the fact that things looked different back then. For example, version 1.6.1 had an actual fucking structure under bedrock (very few people know about this since it got removed a while later in 1.6.2). We also had like 4 different world borders and most people only know about the current one and the farlands while nobody remembers the 1.7 - beta 1.7.3 one. Hope that inspired you enough to do some research and maybe even talk about this in some video. Btw you're the most deserved youtuber on my subs list even though I just saw your channel.
my man im a relatively small channel so ofc ima see your comment lol. and also thanks! im already doing quite a bit of it (a mix of minecraft and roblox and my next vid will be a roblox one) so yeah theres plenty more to come. and also at some point i could do a history of minecrafts world borders video or maybe smth like that bc theres been quite a lot of them lol but anyways thank you for subbing dude :D
Now THIS guy really finds the limits. When i watched videos about how deep u can go into the minecraft void, or into the sky, i always felt unsatisfied, like, no way its just stops you from getting any deeper at some point. I felt that there would be a way to get deeper, because it was just a limit inside of the game code, that you can make bigger, or just how you did, set it to false so there would be no limit, and here we are, finally getting to the real limits (A number so big, that it fucking rounds to INFINITY).
real!! actually in the next video im gonna blow your mind even more lol. because terrain generation can literally extend up to 2 SEXDECILLION blocks if not more. i actually already made a video on it but ima go a little more depth on this in the next video
Very good video ! I was just wondering what's the mode that you use to have the grass part when you walk through it like at 8:26 ? TIA and keep up the good work
This would mean, in theory, that the Sun and the Moon in Minecraft are entities not only larger than our observable universe, but also unfathomably further away from the world, to appear like this in the sky. In addition, the Sun and Moon moving at these velocities breaks our law of physics - but Minecraft operates differently. Maybe the Sun and Moon are different universes all together, revolving around the infinite purgatory of a Minecraft world.

Fun fact, scientists estimate that if the universe is infinite exact copies of you would start appearing approximately 10^586 meters away, since the amount of things that could happen in finite time would simply start running out. You would quite literally encounter quintillions of copies of yourself if you traveled these distances.
the thing is going down or up to these crazy distances, because floating point you lose precision for range and going like 10^200 (1 with 200 zeros) you probably get an accuracy less then 10^100

(precision loss happens because there's only 32 bits in a floating point value, and having a higher number means there's less bits for the fractional part)
For gaming, this is entirely people stress testing the limits of the game and 100% overkill. Numbers this huge, or atleast numbers above 2.14 billion with good precision floating points are important for scientific and industrial uses, and of course, computing in general.
In short, yeah the limit of a 1024 bit number was set simply because, going any higher would be a waste of bits and highly redundant.
@IDGCaptainRussia makes sense to me
also 6:40 2^1024 is also the max amount most calculators can handle, about 10^309
yep it is. its why every computer game crashes or something similar at 179 uncentillion or so
Others can only handle a googol before crashing
infinity 🔥

This video actually helped me with trivia night tonight. One of the questions was "how many meters is a minecraft block?"
lol nice. all from a lil tidbit of my video that wasnt even really related to the actual topic lmaooo
I learned that not only is the world horizontally bigger than the sun, which is over 4 million km, or 4 billion meters, or 4 billion blocks, which I've learned from other vids, but it is also bigger than the observable universe vertically which I learned just now. A bit of a suggestion when you're doing voice editing;
It's fine to go back and redo a line, in case you trip over it.
