- I was twelve when INDEPENDENCE DAY came to theaters and I FLIPPED OUT watching this movie. It was everything I ever wanted in a movie. So then twenty years alter they decide to make a sequel.
And I have no idea what anyone was thinking...

I feel that you should get a medal for reacting to this movie. I sat through this movie, speed 2, no holds barred and felt like I accomplished some type of missionary mission. Being there for unfortunate people who were part of these travestys.
I absolutely appreciated the "nerding out" you did about the nukes and the destruction it would do from area 51 to Houston. I myself "nerd out" all the time in movies about that kind of stuff. Glad to see I'm not the only one.
I’m glad Dr. Okun is awake after, having a coma from the first movie.
I think Emmerich has a new obsession with the earth's core. 2012, the forgettable movie, also had the plot point that neutrinos were somehow heating the earth's core causing the destruction of the planet.
There is a new star of the channel.
I saw this in the theater with my father. I was disappointed too :(
I feel like every single question you have is readily answered with "Roland Emmerich after 1996". The man has had one story to tell since 1998. Godzilla, 2012, this. They're all very surface level with the subtextual substance of a 14 year old kleenex. Which might not be a problem except the shots he aims to take are so *weird*. He roasts Siskel and Ebert in Godzilla with obvious stand ins but they dont get eaten by the titular monster so it's all wasted screentime for a gotcha moment that never arrives. In 2012 he builds up the bad guy as so two dimensionally evil that he forgets to put work into making his good guys competent or likable, which makes the bad guy more sympathetic at times. (And he switches how the science works in that film three times. Three separate debunked paradigms of tectonic science show up, each one impossible to gel with the others, all to allow for otherwise impossible scenes like north pole Wisconsin.) And here the pointless deaths and plot twists follow that same trend where he reaches for an emotional beat (surprise, tragedy, etc.) but he doesnt remember how to tell the story he wants.
It all adds up to something so weird and flat, yet so perfectly idiomatic for Roland Emmerich.
Dear God did this HURT.
The alien mothership is suppose to be the biggest spaceship in cinematic history, dont know if it still is.
I think V'Ger is bigger. It was actually MILLIONS of kilometers wide, if I recall.
@@my_randomology I think V Ger is mostly a gas cloud of memories in his data bank and not all in solid form. The actual V Ger is the satellite in the heart of the cloud. Think they also mentioned that in the Star Trek movie.
The cloud also got smaller and smaller when it got closer to Earth.
While the Mothership was solid form and was bigger than Earth. 🙂 But I could be wrong.

I watched this recently too lol. (Free on tubi). Im so glad i didnt spend a dollar to see it.
I felt like..... they just copied the first movie but then needed to please China so they made sure you knew the chinese character was chinese. I dont even remember if there was any other nationalities in there.
Yeah nah. This Movie is.... different. Sad that they havent been able to catch ANY of the Magic the first one had.

Sadly their is literally a book for a second movie and it was like an aftermath movie because all the aliens didnt die at the end of last one. Of course you wait 28 years doing an aftermath movie doesnt quite work.
you'll never convince me this movie is bad. it's a fun time.
For the time, first movie did have exceptional special effects. Remember it was made before CGI break everything and most things are practical. BUT! Writing never did make sense and suck. And sequel is way worst!

this movie got awful alot wrong.. but if you read the book.. (YES there is a book) that explains ALOT. On the aliens etc. The thing is people don't understand this is a race that is pretty much mastered gravity manipulation. The mothership fired up gravity engines to SLOW down on the planet so it actually had something to still land on. I will be here all day explaining things but the question he asks about why the aliens didn't "send" this ship in the first place? well believe it or not. the aliens didn't come to earth to wage war.. humans are just in the way. All they want is the molten core.. because if people bothered to listen to the sphere.. it says its used to refuel and GROW technology.. the aliens in the first movie was a NEW colony and was just a baby with a "young" queen. They eventually grow out in size to the ship you see in this movie. you see 4 motherships in the flash back. but yeah i am disappointed on this movie like so many others but the movie does such a poor job explaining things.
While all that would have plugged a few plot holes, I don't think they should expect the audience to do homework before watching a movie like this.
@@my_randomology yeah exactly.. the movie its self is just stupid tbh this could of been a incredible movie.. there was meant to be way more space action as well.. as well as the counter attack being in just above the earths atmosphere. and you didnt see davids anti shield drones in action.. drones he spent years perfecting for single use only..
