Same, the embellishments kill the emotional expression and it is no longer Ariel singing to herself about her dreams, it’s an American idol contestant living out her dream by trying to impress us with acrobatic vocal tricks. Not buying it, that’s not Ariel singing because it’s all too much and she simply can’t keep it inside. It’s somebody performing. Fundamentally misses the point of the leading lady’s establishing musical number, Part Of That World, and thereupon the entire film falls apart irrevocably-irrevocallably?
@@TheCapedWanderer exactly freaking exactly and then the acting from her. It’s just terrible it’s Solis and they cut up the part where she swims around humming because she’s happy honestly I’m kind of glad they did that because something tells me daily return it into another American Idol contest thing I’m not saying the woman can’t sing she can but she just isn’t fit for this. This songs are meant to be sent a certain way not some R&B thing and that’s what she’s doing and I’m sorry I don’t care for it.
@@Leamichellefan2244 yes and she’s humming Part Of Your World! I also love that scene where she’s picking the petals off a (sea?) flower, “He loves me. He loves me not... He loves me!” and her reaction to each one is so genuine and excited/dejected. The humming. The pretty squid-flower she puts in her daddy’s hair, and swims off still humming. That kind of little characterization and sincerity is so important to show for an audience to relate to. Halle just hasn’t got a hold on the role, and neither did the director or writers apparently. Sucks because the character is spelled out very clearly in her song, it’s really quite hard to miss, but they managed it. Yeah it’s not as if she doesn’t have a voice, I could see her singing R&B or pop (or the national anthem 😓), but a musical is a different thing: you need to act _in_ the singing, and Halle struggles with just acting on its own, she’s really not equipped to play this part.
@@TheCapedWanderer i’m not gonna lie the humming is my favorite part because it’s kind of like what happens in Cinderella. I don't get it why some people think Ariel is "weak" when she literally saved Eric's life so it is realistically fair for Eric to save her life later on. I think it was a fair deal. I think a lot of people miss the point of disney princesses..and wow would you look at that, usually people who are saying Ariel is weak is..women undermining each other again, I've seen this before but I don't know where..
I haven't watched the Little Mermaid in awhile, my kids are a bit old for it and were never big on Disney, but last I saw it, I thought Eric and Ariel were pretty well matched in terms of being a power couple. Both of them are smart, capable and brave when needs be. Neither is infallible and both can end up in trouble one way or another, in the movie specifically, the good one from the 90s if that's not clear, both end up in trouble as a result of an act of love. Philia and Storge for Eric (His crew, his dog, and Sir Grimsby) and Eros for Ariel (Eric). Ariel rescues Eric twice, first from the sinking of his ship, then from Ursula while he's under her spell. Then Eric provides the cavalry for the final battle with Ursula. So two rescues to one, in Ariel's favor if we must boil things down to numbers instead of just saying they're both intelligent, courageous and bold people who care about each other and are more than a little heroic if called on by circumstances. Not sure why being a well matched pair isn't cool anymore, but it was the ideal I grew up with. Certainly what I wanted out of a marriage. Tragically my wife isn't nearly as capable with a sword as my youthful counterpart would have hoped, but sword fights are also significantly less common than he'd have hoped too, so I suppose it all balances out.

Hold up - the racially diverse sisters all have the same mother (who, herself is black). 100% irrevocable BS! There's suspending ones disbelief for the sake of a fantasy story; but this is asking way too much. It would have made far more sense to have Triton have a harem of wives or adopting these girls from various kingdoms as a show of alliance or some such. Having them all look so different from one another and expecting the audience to believe they are come from the same parents (with the excuse of 'they're fish people that come in a variety of colors) is asking way too much from the audience. Also something that can't be believed - when did Ariel ever learn how to steer a boat? And how is she doing it when she literally has no legs to stand on to steady herself?
Ariel. Uses a fork As a comb but can steer a wheel. Same As LA Jasmine who wants to be sultana because she's such an intelligent woman but doesnt know you have to pay for stuff.
Not just the human skin part are diverse, but the lower fish half also from different species of fishes. Clearly they are adopted (maybe thats why no daughter of triton song)

Personally I really enjoyed The Little Mermaid live action. Did I love it? No. But it wasn't terrible either. Imo it's still good. Some scenes were actually entertaining and I honestly love Halle as Ariel. I just wish the CGI was better and they didn't drag the story out.
Thank you for genuinely making me laugh out loud (like, loud loud, it was probably annoying). This is the best thing on the internet right now and also I bet it serves as an actual review because it looks like this movie doesn't even have enough material to over analize it and we're too tired to bother with Disney remakes.
Seen all the problems and lazy use of resources this movie seems to be, it kinda makes me want to watch the original, which i haven't seen since i was 7 years old...
i love how the critical drinker made a video a while back explaining the disney new movie rules where a man absolutely can never be useful and a man can never win against a woman in single combat no matter what. this "rule" is one of the many things that made the new star wars trilogy and mulan live-action absolutely horrible. and im not surprised at all to see it happening YET AGAIN in disney's new movie...
in case someone wants me to elaborate on the star wars and mulan, rey beats the main villain of the trilogy 1v1 to begin with without any training at all whatsoever because shes born perfect. also mulan is a story about relentlessness and never giving up, and how one can achieve anything by just never quitting and staying hungry. yet in the live action mulan auto-wins and kicks the ass of every single male soldier in the army. when originally she lost countless times and had to train incredibly hard. but she did it because she had fire inside her. live-action mulan doesnt at all
The Drinker is perceptive about patterns in writing; you can go into a movie and confidently predict the outcome of certain interactions just based on race and sex, which is horribly dejecting as a moviegoer who wants to experience a story. Characters should interact based on conflicting perspectives, motivations, histories, and feelings, not what class of person they belong to/represent.
@@yihadistxdl951 My mother (once a playwright) said after seeing Force Awakens, “that protagonist didn’t make a single choice throughout the story, she faced no moral dilemma like Luke and Anakin did at every turn in their stories.” I’ll never forget what a cutting critique that was. We saw Last Jedi together too, and she reiterated it, because Episode II/V is where Anakin and Luke made critical wrong choices in those dilemmas, (both lost a hand, even!) whereas Rey... simply continued succeeding uninhibited by the need to make tough decisions or account for her actions.
@@TheCapedWanderer yea exactly. rey never faces any problems and never makes any mistakes. its like she has won every battle before they even begin. its just ass to watch when the main character has absolutely no character arc or personality or identity or anything.

I remember running into someone who told me they cast the black girl because of her singing, not because of her skin color. They got angry when I pointed out that Ariel can't speak. Guess the film makers noticed too and thought of the pretty much worst solution to this 😂😂
It's interesting to do the geology on our fairytales and myths because you find each generation/Era adds its own spin and additions to it. There is always "cultural assimilation" happening. It's ironic that they are doing this to the major franchise fairytales when they themselves are always so angry when others do it. I'm always scratching my head wondering where the Woke get the nerve to claim an awakening moral high ground when really they seem to embody the arrogant self righteousness idealism of a teenager who thinks they need to school the adults on why they aren't doing more to fix the world's problems. This level of moral maturity we are at. We have degenerated and labeled it progress.
I actually know why this movie, and most other live action Disney movies are so dark. They dim the lights down so that the bad CG is harder to notice. I’m not joking, that’s actually why they do it, you can look up brightened screenshots from the movies
This is one of the most funny and cynical reviews I've ever seen. I stumbled upon this video by chance but now I'm going to look for other videos from this channel hoping they are as snarky and salty as this one.
Yeah, I’m NEVER watching this movie even though I haven’t seen it. Ariel is black, Flounder looks like some ordinary fish, and the songs are annoying and don’t even make sense. The only GOOD thing was the Giant Ursula at the end! That’s the ONLY good thing in this movie. Even though this movie is doing surprisingly well, I don’t think it deserves it. Giant Ursula was the one good thing about this movie. But the rest, ABSOLUTELY BAD. I would NOT watch this movie if I were anybody in the world. Disney’s just messing up nowadays. 😒
I wish i saw this before I went with my whole family. My little sister fell asleep. My brother hated the CGI and acting. My stepmom got bored. And i felt upset because I wanted us to have a good time. And it wasn't that good really... I wish I could get my time and money back...

I'm not comfortable with hoping that something that people slaved over does poorly. However, I do want the abuse to stop. The only way that happens is if the live actions profits grind to a screeching halt. Please let it end.
the musical score was SOOOOOO forgettable. it sounded like they just threw in the melody from part of your world into any random piece of score. i was so disappointed with the music.
I find it weird how y’all try so hard to persuade people who want to see this movie to not go see it. It's so stupid, adults forbidding children from going to watch it or fighting like their lives depended on it every time someone mentions something positive or a bit of emotion about the movie.
I mean you can tell that she’s a she’s in love that she’s doing that you can tell that’s why she’s coming like that because she’s happy but no Halle has no freaking idea what she’s doing and if you want my honest opinion I think the only reason that she got this role besides well the obvious that I’m not even going to go into is because she is part of Beyoncé’s company, so technically Beyoncé manages her and remember Beyoncé was a part of the live action lion king so don’t tell me she didn’t whisper to somebody he hired this person and that’s how she got it.
@@Leamichellefan2244 that makes a lot of sense, I mean yeah the obvious reason was clearly a big factor but I’m not surprised at all that Beyoncé dropped a line for her. I mean, all this nonsense about “the perfect Ariel” like, umm, what? Diiid ya watch it?🙃 She looks and acts nothing like her! What part screamed Ariel?

"Akwafina shut the F*ck up"
hahaha I love it
i love how the critical drinker made a video a while back explaining the disney new movie rules where a man absolutely can never be useful and a man can never win against a woman in single combat no matter what. this "rule" is one of the many things that made the new star wars trilogy and mulan live-action absolutely horrible. and im not surprised at all to see it happening YET AGAIN in disney's new movie...
in case someone wants me to elaborate on the star wars and mulan, rey beats the main villain of the trilogy 1v1 to begin with without any training at all whatsoever because shes born perfect. also mulan is a story about relentlessness and never giving up, and how one can achieve anything by just never quitting and staying hungry. yet in the live action mulan auto-wins and kicks the ass of every single male soldier in the army. when originally she lost countless times and had to train incredibly hard. but she did it because she had fire inside her. live-action mulan doesnt at all
The Drinker is perceptive about patterns in writing; you can go into a movie and confidently predict the outcome of certain interactions just based on race and sex, which is horribly dejecting as a moviegoer who wants to experience a story.
@@yihadistxdl951 It's not entirely true that Rey doesn't make mistakes, however, she never has to face severe consequences because of it so they don't really matter in the grand scheme of things.

I remember running into someone who told me they cast the black girl because of her singing, not because of her skin color. They got angry when I pointed out that Ariel can't speak. Guess the film makers noticed too and thought of the pretty much worst solution to this 😂😂
But does she not sing in the movie..?
She sings in the movie even when she can't talk, in her Imagination. I hate when people talk shit about movies when they did not even see it.
