I bought my first WC knife about six months ago (an Alaskan Scout). Hands down the best knife I have ever owned. I just love the thing. I found you and your channel through Willam. He had mentioned you in a video a few weeks ago and then I watched your review of the Grayman knife and was super impressed on how you were able to explain the purpose of the each part of the knife design - I learned a lot. Anyway, just wanted to say that I'm glad I found you and your channel. Can't wait to watch your videos!

Blackie, you are a lucky guy. It looks like a good piece of kit. What do you know about Busse knives? Here in Australia we don’t have the array of knives as you do in the USA. A good quality knife be it kitchen or camping knife can set us back about AUD$500+. Got a new hunting store opened up nearby and knives start at AUD$550 and are mostly US or German knives.

I am waiting to receive a 19th century pattern butcher knife blade from a company in Sheffield who were exporting them to the USA back in the 1700s and 1800s. I am not sure how it will do for me, but if it was good enough for the back woodsmen of the day, I am sure it will be practical in many ways. The interest for me will also be crafting my own handle for it and making a sheath. I do not like micarta, I like to carve a handle that is unique to me, which is why I don't like ready made knifes as a rule. Anyway I like this company in Sheffield because my first ever Bowie knife was made by them. I didn't know the first thing about the company then, but what I like about dealing with them is that I have to wait for my blade as it is not off the shelf. Anyway I do like the sheath that comes with your knife, as again I like leather sheaths.

Your title calls it "the ultimate survival tool".
What do you mean by this?
Are you saying its a "1 tool option"? Which by the way is a garbage term that carrys heavy negative implications.

    "Ultimate Survival Knife"?
Wouldn't that be the one(s) you have on you?
What's with the "survival" line? WHERE other than the Alaskan and/or Canadian wilderness, or uninhabited island, is that an issue? Not National Parks, A camp ground, or a leased or public deer hunting woodlot or field.
Non-folding sheath knives are not EDC for the majority, and to be honest are not required out in the field. A Buck 110/Schrade 7/OT/LB7 or even a two blade slipjoint folding hunter, or a SAK with a saw is more than enough to make a shelter, whittle a trap trigger, and so on.
"But you have to be able to baton your firewood, and through a sappling or branch used to make a shelter!!!🤯😳😳"
Really???? In over 60 years of hunting and camping in the boonies and more remote sticks, I have yet to need to baton. If I ever do, I would NOT use my knife, be it a non-folding sheath knife or a folder. WHY take a chance on breaking my knife? S'not like I can dash over to the nearest big box or sporting goods to replace it.
I know how to whittle a wedge. My SAK Huntsman and Hercules both have a saw. Baton ACROSS the grain WILL damage your blade.
The SAK's saw across the edge gives a starting point for the wood wedge. I'll beat the wedge with a rock - NOT my blade's spine.
If you want the "Ultimate" survival sheath knife, you should get something with a proven track record:
The Puukko has been used in survival situations both peace time and in war for well over 100 years.
The Ontario 499 "Jet Pilot Survival Knife" was used in Vietnam and after by pilots shot down, and SOME (not all) Infantry Grunts. (One of my Uncles was in Vietnam 1960 to 1962 (he had two terms). He was Army Infantry, but was issued an Ontario 499. (he gave me it and his issued "Demo" knife when he got out of the Army in 1963, shortly after his father passed. I used both in my BSA activities. I carried the Demo knife and either a Stockman or Barlow 24/7/365.25, including to school (in my day ... and even my great grandfather's day, the schools EXPECTED the him students to have at least one pocket knife on them. (grrrrrrrrrr-uls at least a pocket knife AND a paring knife and/or a Butcher's knife (in a home made cerial box & electrical tape or duct tape sheath) in her purse, by second grade.
By 1968, those taking shop classes were expected to have a Buck 110 or a single or two blade slipjoint/clasp knife on their belt, in addition to their pocket knife.
As late as 1995, it was not unusual for high school students who drove to school to have a rifle and/or shotgun, and/or archery bow in the rear window of their pickup truck/side window of their SUV, or family station wagon (or hung from the roof of the pickup/SUV/Jeep), or in the trunk during hunting season.
GUESS WHAT?!? We NEVER had a school shooting or stabbing. In 3rd grade I took my Ithica Mdl 49 Saddle Gun (lever action single shot .22 rimfire) to school for Show & Tell. (Some of my classmates brought a Browning, Marlin, Remingon, or other brand semi-auto .22. A couple brought a archery bow or crossbow and the appropriate arrows. BTW, in HS Archery was an option in coed PE class. More her's than him's took archery. Of the 12 in my archery class, I was the only him.) NO ONE raised an eyebrow. Teacher did not confinscate them, no trip to principlal or suspension/expultion, and the cops were not called/bothered.
