The astroturf/grass joke is brilliant.
Rodney has a thing for policewomen, which is unfortunate considering his family lives outside the law.
By far the best ep of s1. Like many sitcoms, it improves significantly when s2 begins.
The first series on anything is also a bit slow. Everyone is settling in.
Vehicles on UK roads MUST pass an annual test that this vehicle would not pass. Therefore it would be only useful as parts... Driving it on the road would be illegal.
yes that totally makes sense! I guess it wouldn't even be worth £20 😂
Del uses a lot of cockney rhyming slang. However, he also pretends to be a cultured, sophisticated French speaker when in fact he's been underclass all his life.
Smoking ban went into effect 1st of July 2007 alone this show took place in 1981-1991 but a fantastic show
My favorite episode in Season 1 by a long way - next one is pretty good too.
Keep at it because the later seasons especially between Seasons 4 and 7 as well as the Christmas Trilogy 1996 has some epic episodes. Season 2 and 3 has some real good ones too. Season 1 is a bit slow and not much laughs but like I said, stick at it because you will be rewarded - there is a reason why this sitcom became the best British sitcom for such a long time
Agreed.
Season 1 was okay at best.
Seasons 2-3 were mixed but had some excellent episodes.
Seasons 4-5 were very good.
Season 6 was TV gold (with the increase to 50 minutes per episode).
Season 7 was still very good but down on 6.
And for you sir? 'Half a lager please'.😂
2007 smoking ban.
Ah, thanks!
@@MeganRuth Though many buildings banned smoking years before. 2007 was when it became a legal obligation with few exceptions.
Best uk sitcom ever
The smoking bit was the same as you guys in Canada then. We had smoking areas then eventually completely phased out.
2:52 Im from Bosnia and here in this part of Europe smoking indoors is still not forbiden 😀
not just inflation, you could get junk cars ready for scrap for those sort of nothing prices
Ah the best episodes are yet to come 😅 When Uncle Albert joins them 😂
Great reaction, lovely smile too
This episode was released in 1981. £200 was worth a lot more back then.
glad you enjoyed it only fools and horses is one of the shows that still makes me laugh no matter how much i watch it and your right you can tell alot by there drink, for example your drinking the same brand of lager/beer that i drink here in the uk
Ruth 1981,the car was only worth scrap that was the going rate, del boy only wanted £200 which was a rip off.
No smoking came into force on 26th march 2006 in Scotland
1987 onwards the smoking regulations began. On fantasy try anything once as long as it is no illegal and gross. Live and let live
Camp and homosexual are not necessarily the same thing.
Also stereotyping is not the best representation
Britons didn't have sexual fantasies, really, in 1981! But as far as portrayals of gays go...that goes back to Radio in the 1960s when Round the Horne had a gay couple - Julian and Sandy - as a main feature. This was when homosexuality was still illegal (daftly). They also used words in Polari - a sort of slang used among the Soho gay set.
I reckon there's a decent PhD to be made about the presentation of Gay in Britain's media from, say, 1960-1990.
200 is a lot at this point especially for the troters
Hahaha on the old 1664 there 🤣🤪
only jus come across your channel n i love your reactions ngl. your so funny and you speak your mind freely, i could watch your reactions all day if i could instant sub, n il be telling my friends about you to, keep up your great work!😁💯
Hi Dale! That's so kind! Thank you 😊 I'm glad you enjoy my content! :)
We called that waiter "camp" and it wasn't a problem, films going all the way back to the 50's had no issues with transvestitism or camp behaviour.
Look up Dame Edna Everage and Lilly Savage...
The Carry On films had a popular regular cast who often played with camp humour...
ahh I've heard of Lilly Savage! It seems in the UK there was much more acceptance of "camp" behaviour compared to the US at that time.
@@MeganRuth Was not just acceptance, it was used for the actual humour. Dick Emery and Kenny Everett regularly acted or dressed as women or camp in their comedy sketches in the 1970s
mmy first car i bought second hand in 1991 was £150.00
The best TV show of all time no show is better I can guarantee it
A breath of fresh air reaction…l always look forward to them. This shows title came from an episode name of another comedy that John Sullivan had written before this.
Thanks Mark! I'm glad you enjoy them. Oh that's so interesting! Thanks for the fun fact! :)
@@MeganRuth the show was called Citizen Smith
This episode aired on the 15th September 1981, you also spoke about homosexuality on tv, well if you have not watched it I would suggest you do a ( multiple) reaction videos to the show “ are you being served? “ which ran from the 8th September 1972 until the 1st April 1985
I think with recent homosexual representation in TV, they might have over corrected 🤣
£200 back then was £1000 by today's standards. I sold my first car, a Toyota Celica 2003 model for only £700 (sold it a bit cheap but i just wanted it gone).
When I was growing up, you could easily buy a complete banger for £100, so £25 is the equivalent. imagine buying at £100 and listing it for £900-1000. Who would be dumb enough to buy it?
yes I guess it was! It's crazy how much inflation can factor into costs. Sometimes I forget how cheap things used to be. (Not that I was alive then, of course!)
@@MeganRuth people go on about the 5p packet of Castle crisps we used to buy in the 90s, but i used to pay £20-25 for crap american hip hop albums back then too.
ive not paid for music as long as ive had internet. so it all evens out.
I was 1 when this came out shit i feel old 😊
Best britcom of all time
The show ran from 1981-2003 so this wasn't the 1970s. I know that you're only a 90s baby 👶 but its not that old
anither great vid megan
Thank you! :)
smoking ban indoors was 20004
2007
Homosexuality was certainly well visible in the media in the early 80's. More sympathetically than in the 60's and 70's but still mainly for comedic effect based on stereotypes. Camp as here - or pseudo-macho "village-people' types.
ah, yes, true! I was thinking about full stop representation. But I guess if it's stereotyped it's not that great either. How things have changed!
👍😄X
