Hey Everyone! As many of you know, we are dealing with a wave of copyright claims/strikes. Out of an abundance of caution for our channel, we will not be uploading Scream 2 this week.
We apologize for the inconvenience but hope you enjoy our reaction to 'My Cousin Vinny.' This is one of our earlier reactions that was not previously available on UA-cam.
As always, thank you for your continued support as we navigate these issues!

You seemed surprised that Vinny was able to sleep during a prison "riot" but remember, he's from New York City. This is a commentary that such noises, as opposed to steam whistles, pigs, trains and, especially, screech owls, are far more common in any big city, especially New York.
What's fun about this movie is the way several of Vinny's and Lisa's experiences in Alabama prepare them for the trial (without them knowing it at the time). The length of time to cook grits, getting stuck in the mud (and only one tire spinning - obviously their Caddy doesn't have posi-track, either), etc.

This is considered by many lawyers the best example of what happens (The voir dire scene, the cross etc) in a real courtroom. It's often used in Universities and Schools. It's a brilliantly funny film while also having a huge amount of heart.
Also the reason he's sleeping so well in Prison is because they're from a rougher neighborhood in New York, so the sounds of violence and noise is 'normal' to him, where the quiet and animal noises aren't familiar.

    • @hanng1242

Indeed. We used this when I was in law school. There are a couple things though. (1) There is no way a murder trial would go to trial a week after arraignment. It would take two months a the minimum. There would also first be a hearing on motions to suppress evidence, then some time for the defense to get the transcripts from said motions hearing. (2) The judge was wrong in overruling VInny's discovery violation objection, especially with such an important expert witness. Had the two been convicted, this case would come back on appeal. (3) I do like that the script had the prosecutor dismiss the charges rather than have the case go to the jury for a Not Guilty verdict. The rules of professional conduct puts a higher burden on prosecutors because of the power they have. Whereas any other attorney must "zealously advocate for the interests of his client within the bounds of the rules of professional conduct," prosecutors have a duty to "do justice." An ethical prosecutor must not charge, or dismiss after a case is charged, if he believes that he has "no reasonable likelihood of conviction at trial." He must certainly dismiss if he believes that the defendant is actually innocent. The portrayal of the prosecutor in this case was as an ethical prosecutor. Even though I think that he should not have been allowed to call his expert witness, we did see him notify the defense of this witness and potential testimony as soon as he received it - even after hours, no less. We see that he didn't play hide-the-ball with the discovery in the case. It was a good portrayal. (4) speaking of ethics, Vinny should not have been allowed to represent both defendants. Representing co-defendants is a conflict of interest since the defense of one could involve the admission of evidence of or argument for a theory of the case that implicates the co-defendant.

    • @slowflowsen498
      @slowflowsen498 2 роки тому +6

What's so cool is that both Joe Pesci and Marisa Tomei would both win Oscars. For Marisa this was Poetic Justice. She left her role as Marcy on As The World Turns replacing Courtney Cox Arquette to do A Different World. She got fired because they felt that nobody would take a White Girl Seriously at a Black College. She was heartbroken and cried but she became a Superstar at that time adn the others faded into obscurity. The Judge was also on The Munsters as Herman Munster. The Man at 19:52 is the Late James Rebhorn who got his first big break on Soaps most notably as Bradley Raines an abusive Father/Husband on As The World Turns Sister Show Guiding Light who on August 28th 1983 which was Michael Jackson's 25th Birthday told Phillip Spaulding that the Man whom he thought was his Father really wasn't. He was known to be a Character Actor who also appeared in Scent Of A Woman as Mr. Trask and in The Talented Mr. Ripley as Herbert Greenleaf Sr.

The police officer dryly quoting "I shot the clerk" as a statement rather than the question it was is the best on screen example of why you never talk to the police without a lawyer present.
They are not only allowed to use whatever you say to them against you, they are obligated to, and if they say anything that might help your case the prosecutor can have it struck from the record as hearsay.

The writer of this film also wrote "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" (1988), which I think is one of the funniest films ever made. Steve Martin and Michael Caine play two con men who engage in a contest where the loser will have to leave town.

This is one of my go-to movies whenever I feel like watching something light and wholesome. And for a while, I got into this routine where it was the first movie I'd watch whenever I moved into a new apartment. My Cousin Vinny and a pizza, that became the ritual for some reason. I think it has to do with how unorganized and out of place they are, always trying to find a new place to sleep, etc. And I suppose after just moving into a new apartment, with a bunch of boxes everywhere that need to be unpacked etc., I could relate to that out-of-place feeling. As for the pizza, well, pizza is always delicious, but also a simple thing to grab when you haven't unpacked any kitchen stuff to do some cooking on your own! But yeah, this is one of those movies I could watch again and again.

This movie is a truly great comedy. Every scene works. Every joke lands. And it's not disgusting or over the top or obnoxious. The entire cast hits all their marks. A lot of the dialogue feels natural and not the typical "movie" dialogue. The movie doesn't even look that dated to me.

I'd recommend you watch Goodfellas. Like you folks, the first Joe Pesci movies I saw had comedy angles (Home Alone, Lethal Weapon 2, My Cousin Vinny). Then I finally saw Goodfellas. Pesci is truly terrifying in that film, and won an Oscar.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for this great reaction. "My Cousin Vinny" is one of my favourite films. I suggested it to several other reaction channels but I don't know if any of them even considered watching it. So thank you for your reaction and your thoughts. I don't know why but the same happened to "Das Boot", another one of my favourite films. I suggested it to some channels and only you watched it. Maybe I have to rethink my movie reaction channel ranking now (you've been in my top three anyway (besides "Shan watches Movies" and "Popcorn in Bed")). Because I cannot work due to two strokes (2019) and diagnosed depression (2018) I have a lot of time to follow 13 movie reaction channels to distract me a bit from these medical issues. Your reaction to this film was most welcome and I really enjoyed it a lot. So thank you again.

Marisa Tomei had about a dozen acting credits before this. You are right to say she killed it because she won Best Supporting Actress.

From IMDb: Director Jonathan Lynn actually has a law degree and insisted the film's legal proceedings be realistic. In fact, many attorneys and law professors have praised the film for its accurate depiction of trial strategy and courtroom procedure, especially with regards to presenting expert witnesses at trial. In fact, the film has been screened at some law schools to illustrate courtroom procedures.
