- Chris Isaak's take on the classic Neil Diamond penned hit "Solitary Man". This appearance is from The Tonight Show in 1993 with Jay Leno hosting. Note the band does not yet include guitarist Hershel Yatovitz. Update: The featured lead guitarist is Gregg Arreguin, a session player for k.d. lang, Seal, Brian Eno and others. He died in 2003. Thanks to user 7575047 for the identification of Mr. Arreguin.
Chris was never given the credit due to him. He has the whole package in talent and good looks…….
Everyone who likes real music played by real people should agree Chris Isaak is a gem, and his style and talent are timeless.
Oh he is so very perfect. Everything he sings is golden.
Holy hell...My uncle was best friends with Chris Isaak growing up in Stockton, so I have always known about and listened to him...but I always listen to this song...so passionate. Love it.
Chris Isaak has a fantastic voice, and he looks great as well...total package..:)
Chris, you are underrated. You do a nice job !
Just saw him two weeks ago. Every bit as tight, entertaining, gorgeous, everything. This is an entertainer for our time.
I love the way Chris Isaak sings and his stage presence.
I loved this , I wonder what Neil Diamond thought of this?.. I really didn't miss the horns at all.
I am in love with his voice!!
Classic Chris Isaak, made famous by the best, Neil Diamond, but he puts his special spin on it, and I love it, I will always be a fan! There will never be another.
One of my favorite songs preformed by one of my favorite vocalists. Thanks!
what a charming man
Great cover,thanx for the upload. I love this man....
he is live one of the best singers
from the first time i heard his voice i thought this is the only person who could sing a neild diamond song.fantastic voice control with the highnotes....someone posted shadows in the mirror by chris. great song.
A great version of a great song.
This is Awesome Chris you are amazing!!
Great cover!
Wow! That was pretty good!
I've always loved this song by Neil Diamond. I love this version and also the Sidewinders (of Tucson, AZ) did an awesome cover of this too!
great voice and cover!
Excellent performance by Chris Isaak, Superb.

Met Chris and the band at the bar after a show years ago. Nice guys all.
Good stuff !
Great!
wow , i didnt think anyone could nail this song like neil , but i think i prefer this version
Thanks for posting this, Turned me on to looking into more of his songs.
For me this is the best version of "Solitary Man", even better then Neil's
Très cool pour bosser.
Smooth, perfect for background when @ work.
This song is the reason I now own a Japanese Fender Strat 12 string.
Good voice
Wow just a baby, here still one great song....
nice pijamas, nice noose and a freakin' great song!!!
great cover, a tribute to neil diamond
Who looks at his nose, he has everything!!!!!!!
This song rocks!
I accidentally got into an argument over who sings this song better, Neil Diamond or Johnny Cash. Just didn't like the way Johnny it. Then I read another comment that said Chris Isaak does a pretty good job and OMG I'M A BELIEVER! I have a new favorite version of "Solitary Man!!"
A Lady Named Suzette "Me and Sue .." Oh, yeah! Great addition to my Cover Songs playlist.
***** Love Johnny but *_not_* the way he does this song! Isaak does it as well or better than Neil does. It's just a great song!
Yep, I agree with you Sue.
He is exciting!
wow, it´s a really amazing song!! even better than the version of HIM (i heard the HIM version first) ... and HIM is actually my favority band ... no really, that´s a really great song!! love it !!
Uwielbiam tego człowieka...:)
This is my all time favorite song; still I love the version by T.G.Shepard :):) T.G. forever JV
what a performance :D
I usually dont like most covers but this is pretty good.
Cara essa musica é ótima.
Nice..he kills it.
great song
Thanks for posting. I think James Wilsey (absent here) was the best guitarist Chris had. Really was a big part of defining the sound and attracting Chris' fan base.
Best version of this song I've heard!
me encantaaa!!!!!!!!
LLLLLLL)
SUPER!!!!!
I hope you find more songs that you'll enjoy. Thanks for the comment.
@9mateuszp I hope so to.....he is such a brilliant Singer, i Love him so....
Thanks for the information 7575047. I had only recently learned of his death by another source but he couldn't remember his name either. Sad that he's gone.
Wow
fell in love with his nose
Repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat....................repeat..:)
мне нравится этот мужик!
with passion of his,we could...
Hershel Yatovitz wasn't a member of Silvertone until 1995. This performance, from 1993, was promoting the album "San Francisco Days." The album still featured James Calvin Wilsey on lead guitar. But it was before/after the release of the album that Wilsey left the band. Hershel came along to record the next album "Forever Blue". I'd like to be able to identify this guitarist but it is not Mr. Yatovitz. And if it is, he sure doesn't look like the Yatovitz model from 1995 to present.
as beautiful as his voice is . I will listen to him if I can NOT hear Neil again for any reason . :}}
Well that clearly makes him a genius...
I totally disagree...all you guys are just jealous and you soooooo wish you were so GORGEOUS and TALENTED as he is!! So each your hearts out!!!!!
i am seeing things but does this guy look like Elvis more so in his i wanna fall in love videos
@barriehomeboy I get it, Bob Hope and Chris Isaak both were boxers and have a boxers nose.
the best singer in the world!!!!
great video dchampe66 thanks for posting but I must point out your 'note' at the end - band does not yet include guitarist Hershel Yatovitz, can I point out the guitarist to the immediate left of Chris - I think you will find that is indeed Hershel !!!
I want a 12string Strat now. Also, I wanna be Chris Isaak.
this is a hot cover. Neil is troud.
@dchampe66 his nose. I always thought Elvis and Dean Martin. The onstage flamboyance of the King, with the "pantie remover" voice of Martin.
One of the rare times a cover is better than the original.
He looks a lot like Ricky Nelson.
@dchampe66 The comment was intended for people with a sense of humor.
the best version of this is by neil diamond from 1972 hot august night . its brilliant there are many other versions which are good as is this one but its not the best
He has such a peculiar voice... but his suit is hilarious!
Bob Hope?!
@dchampe66
just look at his nose, when he shows his profile :-)
wheres hershelll
Reggie! In the Archie commics. I was struggling to figure out who he was. That's Reggie's nose.
No No No !
Hey, that nose makes all this possible :)
@barriehomeboy LOL
@barriehomeboy thats funny Elvis the voice and Bob hopes nose and Schmaltz
@dchampe66
Must be the nose?
Still a silly thing to say, eh?
It's the nose, he has Bob Hope's nose.
Why on earth is he not singing the high parts in this wonderful song?
Not doing this is ruining the whole thing.
Sorry, but Neil is shaking his head I'm sure!
I think it's the nose....
@barriehomeboy I disagree. Gay marriage, legal or not, men cannot reproduce with each other. But I have to ask, why bring up Canada's law regarding homosexual marriage? You could've simply said "if you crossed Elvis with Bob Hope, you'd get Chris Isaak." Then, I'd still disagree. Bob Hope?
why disagree, listen to that voice, check out that nose. need i say more.
@dchampe66 You gotta admit he has Bob Hope's nose & Elvis' taste in clothes! Lol! Maybe Elvis isn't dead.. He just snuck off to Canada!.. Lol! Have fun people!!
Well, this is smooth version but i still prefer Neil Diamond.
@dchampe66
I agree with dchampe66, why bring up a gay scenario when it's just as easy not to? I do however see the Bob Hope nose.
If Elvis and Bob Hope had a child, which is entirely possible in my Canada where gay marriage is legal, this would be their child.
@barriehomeboy
I've got a sense of humor, as well as one of civic responsibility. So, go ahead and bring up gay marriage as much as you want. Maybe one day - a hundred years from now, when gay marriage is legal everywhere and people from our time are seen as archaic socially-undeveloped cavemen - someone might read this comment and realize that there were a few forward thinkers amongst the lunkheads.
I am glad Neil Diamond wrote this song so Johnny Cash could do a cover of it better than Chris Isaac and better than Neil Diamond. Now go listen to the Johnny Cash version.
Good version, but never as good as Niel Diamond's version.
Not as good as the original Neil Diamond song. Pity...
great song
