    Stevic MacKay, one of their guitarists, uses a Line 6 Variax system so that he can simulate different guitar tunings in the same song. It is a modeler bases system and sounds great, as you just heard.

    • @TheDiscrepator
      @TheDiscrepator 4 роки тому +7

      Yeah, actually the Shuriken Line 6 he uses is his signature guitar. He worked with Line 6 for that model. The sound even when it emulates an acustic guitar is reeeally awesome.

    • @scraverX
      @scraverX 3 роки тому

      He even runs compound tuning on on parts of some songs so he doesn't have to move his hand from one end of the neck to the other. Technically clever stuff.

    Twelve Foot Ninja is a really special band. Insanely unique combo of Karnivool + Faith No More + Tool + Reggae + Latin + who knows what else they're thinking of at any given time. Fun to listen to as well as having some of the best music videos in the game aside from MAYBE Mastodon. Who I just realized I don't think you've listened to...Look up some Mastodon soon! "Oblivion" "Asleep In The Deep" or "Steambreather" are good places to start!

    Your reaction was EXACTLY like mine, haha! It's so great to see REAL musicians appreciating how very talented and diverse music can still be out there. I'm allergic to today's popular "creations" and have little respect for the simplicity and mundane repetition that is so richly rewarded by the masses. That being said, I have to constantly remind myself that 99% of consumers just don't hear music the same way that this guy, myself, and others do. We also agree on lyrical content. I could care less about the message if there's not a statement also made sonically. Good to know we're not extinct yet!

    Love this band. They have so much silly and comedic content in their music, but also consistently create really rhythmically and harmonically interesting stuff. The chords during the chorus between the guitar and vocals+backing vocals are really unusual and interesting. Love that the vocalist lets those clear Mike Patton influences come through too.

One of my bands already, the fact that they aren’t much bigger shows everything wrong with the music world of today. Kin Etik (the singer) has a really interesting vocal style where he slides between notes rather than holding them still and it really fits well with the changes in key and melody they like to implement. You can hear so many different genres and influences within their style and sound, from Faith no more to Opeth etc. Their clean transitions remind me of System of a Down

In my own opinion, it’s the most 12 foot ninja song they have, the best introduction song to discover the band. Really grows on you too.
    A couple other Australian suggestions, not so metal (but more raw, and somewhat offbeat like 12 Foot Ninja); The Drones - To Think That I Once Loved You; or Tropical Fuck Storm - Chameleon Paint. Both bands have the same singer, and vocals to rival Nick Cave.

    Thank you soooooooooooo much for decomposing that song. It's amazing you did this. Twelve Foot Ninja needs so much more attention. Great to hear your input on that song because when you're too much of a fan (like me), we forget how complex and construct some songs can be. Next song to decompose A New Day from Karnivool. You want chicken skin ? You'll get it so much you're going be able to sand some wood with it !

    Really love this track, never heard of them... but they remind me a lot of some of Mike Patton's more experimental work / early Faith No More... lead vocals even sound similar in parts. Like a built in love factor for me. Will check them out.

      Go listen to their last two albums. Mr. Bungle meets modern prog metal. He even sounds like a range limited Patton.

    You must dig deeper into their catalog....As an old dude singer who has watched all of your reactions, I think you will dig some of their earlier stuff...Not that this is not unbelievably badass. Comin for You... or Shuriken... or Deluge...Dude I am so excited that you got to this band!!! I hate to be a 54 yr old fan boy, but I guess that is me...LOL

    Twelve Foot Ninja are, as you say, incredibly skilled and just daft as a bag of unicorn brushes. "Coming for you" is a great show of that eclectic genre switching that they're awesome at. Sick is my favourite just for that lush chorus and the Mr. Bungle style feel of the verses.

    I discovered you via this video. Definitely need to do A LOT more Twelve Foot Ninja....hopefully at least one in this 30-day countdown. So many wild, impressive, fun, catchy, genre-mashing tracks from them. I'll try to keep it to one or two from each release: "Endless" "Child With No Enemy" "Coming For You" "Kingdom" "Aint That a Bitch" "Sick", and they just had a new album come out...you HAVE to do "Long Way Home" and "Vengeance", but there are so many others!!

    It's always so cool to see someone with an understanding and appreciation of what TFN is doing commenting on their music.
    Other channels, they're sitting there all "I don't get it.. Why do they keep changing?". I get it.. Not every band is for everyone. That's certainly true for TFN. But it's great for those of us who can appreciate it!
    I love this band.

    I'd love to hear your thoughts on a Bilmuri song or two. Another artist who loves having fun with their art. Some of my favorites of theirs are: Cow People, The Muri With Human Hair, and Bruh.mp4 just to name a few.
    Just found your channel today and love your stuff so far. Keep up the good work!

    "One Hand Killing" was 12FN's attempt at recapturing the magic of their smash-hit (on UA-cam) first single, "Coming for You." And it was even more successful! Both of their albums are fantastic and I was pleased to learn today that they are finally releasing a third album this year.

  • @scraverX

    The thing that makes the opening riff so unique is that 'Stevic' uses a Variax guitar... so yes there is some drop tuning but he actually runs a compound tuning on this song for the opening he has his two 'low strings' Drop D and the next two in a different tuning so he doesn't have to move his hand to hit that two or so octave shift. Oh and he switches tunings in and out - because he can. Mad technical.
    I think the Bass is a Variax as well

  • @divided123
    @divided123 4 роки тому

    The guitarist’s use of the line6 Variax guitar to use multiple tunings in the same song is quite cool as well.
