🎵🎸Moody, atmospheric, instrumental, one-man-band prog? Right this way 👇

I love this 😂 The Mike Patton is real and I’m here for it. All while TFN being uniquely them 🖤 They don’t get the appreciation they deserve in the wider music scene.
Good call on it fitting on Angeldust. Without a doubt. 😁
They went through a phase a couple years ago where EVERYONE doing metal reactions was reacting to them, and it kind of died down. And then all of a sudden recently is repeating that again out of no where.
I said the same thing about this band! Very FNM influenced! It's like Mike Patten had a long-lost son and started 12FT Ninja! Amazing band!
PATTON, YES!!! Holy shit thank you!! I been trying to figure it out for years what they remind me of!!!
You are so spot on .love this band and the FNM influence
Dead Letter Circus is a brilliant melodic proggy metal band from Brisbane. Check out "This Is The Warning" (debut) and "Catalyst Fire" (I think this went to number 1 in Australia). Two phenomenal albums
Maybe not so prog, let's say melodic groove metal with soaring vocals. Something along those lines
"The Cure" on Catalyst Fire threw me for a damn loop when I finally realized where beat 1 was! Completely epic!
I listened to Cage so much
I knew you would like these headcases 😂
Great reaction! TFN are definitely inspired by Mr Bungle / Faith No More. Bär McKinnon from Mr Bungle even had a guest appearance on one of their EPs. All official MVs of Twelve Foot Ninja are great. Doesn't matter if you go with new or old. Mother Sky from their first full release is a nice song, less on the heavier side. Start the Fire from their newest album (came out this October) is a bit heavier.
Hey, as someone who's never listened to these guys before, Is this song representative of their whole catalog or is it an outlier? Shit's fire!
@@Jay.McCarty this is very much in tune with the rest of their stuff. They weave in and out of different genres, some songs more than others.
TFN are always great to react to. All their videos are funny/creative to go along with them being great musicans that don't take themselves seriously. Their mad creative guitarist Stevic did an interview with Huey Lewis during lockdown last year that is also worth a watch - it is on their UA-cam channel.
The part when the opening section repeats and the bass changes parts for that 1 lick is the most audibly satisfying thing in music
I tend to listen to the background of tracks, the random cowbells, wood block, counter melody guitars, electronics, samples
Wth, I just came for the reaction and the first thing I hear is such a badass intro, I love ittttttt. 🤯
JW dear, how are you, I greet you from Paraguay, the first thing I related was Mike Patton and Faith No More but this band is excellent, I love the changes of rhythms they make, hug!
These guys are hilarious 😂
Great channel, you know how to talk about music!
Great band - all albums a joy.
Most people don't notice the Prifiry reference in the beginning, lol. They make a guest appearance in the music video for Ain't That A Bitch also. If you do ever check that one out, the official video is age restricted and there is an edited version too. None of the song is cut out though.
Great reaction mate. Some more 12 foot ninja please. 'Start the Fire', 'Sick' or 'Mother Sky', you will have a field day with the genre shifts
since you like horror, maybe Sick or Aint that a Bitch.... of their newer stuff I really like Long Way Home, which also has a crazy video... oh and no video but I really dig their song Portrait #1 which to me has a real sarcastic California-era Bungle vibe to it... like Vanity Fair
One of the very few bands I know where you can put their whole catalogue on shuffle and never hit skip. Symphony X is another one of those bands. Can’t say enough about TFN. The use of Line 6 Variax technology allows them to seamlessly switch genres on the fly live. They have a Spank setting on their guitars which you nailed in your commentary. Great vid!
Dude I've been into these guys since they came out and never connected the dots to FNM....well played youre absolutely right 🤘
mr bungle you should check out twelve foot ninja long way home
I'm a bit late for the party. But I just wanted to throw my 2¢ in. When I first heard this track, it was a reaction vid. The very second the singer started in on the chorus, I immediately thought of Patton. I am 46 and have been a fan of FNM since The Real Thing days. Also, love Mr Bungle. Those little jazzy/funky breakdowns make me think of Golem II: The Bionic Vapour Boy from Mr Bungle's album, California, right down to both the funky clavi and eerie but beautiful harmonizing background vocals. Anyway, great stuff, man! New subscriber here!
bro, it was so cool hearing you laugh.
I was hoping this would have that effect on you, but of course I wouldn't know if it would. Great analysis, as per usual.
I'm totally onboard with this type of humour! 😅😁
About the ending, filmers didn't want to wait until the (physical) end-of-tape of the camera. Tapes were expensive, so what you did was you more or less gambled where the tape would end and after copying, you used the same tape over and over again. That's why you would see some older footage while playing the tape, with shot events in reverse order. Great reaction btw 🙂
Yeah you definitely picked up on that Patton influences.
I'm a massive fan of all things Patton... Instant sub!
Also Kin is virtually Patton reincarnated. But in the best way possible
This band is obviously very unique and virtually uncoverable from a musical standpoint. You should delve into the Shuriken guitar and how Stevic uses it. Next level creativity and use of guitar technology even if someone didn't like the quirks of their style.
you should check out twelve foot ninja long way home and coming for you
Their song Start the Fire would be up your alley. It's off the new album with Over and Out.
Absurdist, genre hopping, conscientious, experimental metal! Yep! Sounds right to me! Love this band!
A little alice in chains Layne Staley influence in the chorus vocals too.
Love your vids bud!
Stevic, the Guitarist (leading the Busy discussion), also the principal song writer and visionary (he does the music videos, and basically plans all the other stuff) of the band, is a HUGE fan of Faith no More and Mr Bungle (mostly Bungle)... also a big fan of Huey Lewis (the covered one of his songs in lockdown, and Stevic interviewed him on a video on youtube)
Nice reaction. Like your stuff too.
Thanks Jason.
Coming for You should be the next one from them and if you want another epic video check out Sick.
Fun fact! The lead guitarist stevic Mackay is the guy behind shuriken guitars 🤟
You should react to Twelve Foot Ninja IDK from their newest album.
Nice job noticing the clavinet
🤣😂
@@JWSoundworks2 autocorrect fucked up the CLAVINET
I’m really blown away by your channel and how you break music down. I’ve got a lot of catching up to do, but in what I’ve watched so far, you’ve pointed out a bunch of things I had no idea were there in songs I’ve been listening to for years. The chorus in this track had always rung somewhat familiar to me, but I could never place it. When you said Faith No More, it was like a years-long mystery was solved. Can’t wait to dive into more and I really enjoy how you appreciate music both through words and body language. Keep up the great work.
If you haven’t heard them yet, I think you might really dig the band Sleep Token. They’re definitely genre-bending like Twelve Foot Ninja. Check out the track “Jaws” - it’s quite a compositional ride.
Thanks for the kind words! Haven't heard of Sleep Token before!
@@JWSoundworks2 oh, man. You’re in for a treat if you get around to them. It’s a collective of anonymous musicians from Britain with the ability to meld metal/djent with elements of pop, R&B, techno, jazz, and more. Lots of piano, lots of synth and atmosphere, lots of stank-face-worthy pockets of heavy. Again, genre-blending like TFN, but without the humor. The lead singer’s voice is unbelievably beautiful, pained, soulful and evocative, and the drummer is just beyond description - an absolute god. How they’re not massive is beyond me, but they will be one day. Good time to get in on the ground floor. They released their second full-length album in late September and it’s incredible top to bottom. Ok, I’ll shut up now. I hope you enjoy if you give them a listen! Happy new year!
When their debut was just released I worked at an independent merch/record store and my co-worker put this album on to check out as we were selling it, I hadn’t heard them previously but the first song Coming For You was just an insane introduction, and I was hooked due to growing up with Mr Bungle too. First band aside from SC3 that I found that sounded remotely similar.
Man, get on that Dead Letter Circus. Especially their first 2 or 3 albums. "One Step", "Alone Awake", and "The Cure" are some of my favorites, and that was difficult to choose from all their stuff. You won't regret giving them a chance!
I'm totally with you in enjoying a quality band like this unabashedly letting their FNM/Bungle -esque freedom of expression shine thru. ZanyAF videos yes, but the music is quite meticulous imho. :)
p.s. given that I am friends with 2 concert pianists, surely you have to acknowledge that watching someone losing themselves in the ebbs & flows of Rachmaninov2 with the volume muted can look *quite* special?! ;p
Lol Lang Lang is the worst for the distracting histrionics. Most others seem to match the emotion of the performance and aren't distracting for me whereas his feel exaggerated and for show. Jusy got an idea for a video - Lang Lang being immersed in a meaningful performance but overdubbing ba ba black sheep, played poorly over the top. Lol Lang Lang Shreds.
@@JWSoundworks2 You wouldn't be the first pianist I know to have specifically mentioned Lang Lang with regard to, I think the term was "OTT flailing"! :)
....quickly followed tho by reiteration that his *playing* is truly top-tier. Not that I'd really know- I'm an uneducated heathen when it comes to the finer points of classical piano. LOL
Having watched someone pick up body language hinting at classical training of Jonah Nilsson of Dirty Loops while watching their "Work Sh1t Out" video, I'd love to see what you make of that vid: ua-cam.com/video/r_GTgpdoCh0/v-deo.html There is approximately zero chance of you not appreciating this btw. ;)
@@badm0t0rf1nger there's no denying that he is a great player/idiosyncratic interpreter. Personally, his style isn't to my taste, but he's a massive talent. Where he really shines, imo, is in the masterclasses. You'll find plenty on YT - just watch how he gets through to the young kids. He makes it so much fun for them to find their voice in classical music. He's superb at that.
I had a massive Dirty Loops binge a couple of years ago. Loved their videos too. They were actually kinda TOO good lol. They sickened me so much that I had to stop watching them LOL.
@@JWSoundworks2 LOL - that's understandable, but if you've already heard "Work Sh1t Out" from 2yrs ago, please do a vid for either "Follow the Light" ua-cam.com/video/-UBcxKiS550/v-deo.html or the incredible OK-lads-lets-swing-this-in-12/8-for-a-laugh cover of "Thriller" ua-cam.com/video/m34byl2BT1o/v-deo.html from the recent collab with Cory Wong & his incredible brass section. Let's just say I wasn't expecting them to bust out the double-bell euphonium in the middle of that one!! o_O #SpecialAF ;)
Love 12FN. Tracks to do next for them would be 'Coming for You' & 'Sick' (Great film clips) and 'Mother Sky'
Great reaction as usual!
Have you ever listened to Resolve? It's a French band, they released their first album last week, and it's brilliant! If not, a good start could be Emerald Skies
definitely they're inspired by faith no more and mr bungle. "Long way home" is from their latest album and has even a more mr bungle vibe. "coming for you" and "mother sky" are of their (I think) first
album. I do highly recommend these songs, seeing, after watching some of your reactions you have somewhat the same taste of music as I do. They wont disappoint, for they mix a lot of different styles in their songs and it somehow always fits perfectly. Also they always put a lot of thought in their video's, one video funnier than the previous one, but preserving the quality of the music.
I'll recommend "long way home" from their latest album, or "coming for you" from their Silent Machine album next.
Great analysis as always :) You help me understand music I love better. So much appreciated! Another TFN's song worth familiarising yourself with: Coming For You.
Would you fancy a japan metal/avant-garde/funk recommendation? The kind of band that surprises you a few times within one song?
With 3 vocalists: extreme vocalist, lead guitar player and drummer (female). Their music videos are also masterpieces like this one :)
I think you'd really appreciate the songs "Oxygen" and "Monsoon". They're some of the most creative songs I've ever heard both songwriting and production.
The transitions are unbelievably smooth (whereas with One Hand Killing, that first switch to funk, while enjoyable, is almost a little abrupt / abrasive).

Twelve, one... Foot, hand... Ninja, killing.
Hey JW if thought this was entertaining you NEED to check out their video for 'coming for you " Cheers Mate!
try some Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - "The Donkey Headed Adversary" and/or "Angle of Repose", think you might just love it.
these guys are the results of meshuggah and faith no more having a baby as bizarre as it sounds its fucking mental
After you checked the names of bands you should check which band went to which room
Faith No More is my 3rd favorite band and the first thing I noticed about this band was Kin's vocals resembling Mike Patton's. I hate he's not with the band anymore.
Mate Ha ha ded Leda service
I they are having some fun with the band dead letter circus 😂😂😂😂😂
Angel Dust is the best album in the world. I got to see FNM on that tour blow Metallica and GNR off their own stage.
Do Mr Bungle - Sudden Death
Fuck that song is ridiculous heavy, Talk about atom bomb riffing and having Dave Lombardo on drums and Scott Ian on rhythm guitar, what can you say. I'm gonna go watch it now on volume 10, it's been awhile! YEAH JW check it out you won't be disappointed, not too many peeps have reacted to it!
Check out the new album Vengeance, it's a real masterpiece
Check out Dark Passenger by 12FN, if you like FNM...
You say you're a big Faith No More fan and refer to Patton as God... You, sir, have another subscriber
Dead letter circus.
This is better than Over and Out
Not saying I hate their new stuff, I just do not like the Jinjer vocalist. Plus this is a way groovier song
