I've hung a couple of doors and I've had to do it on my own, so I wanted to share another tip with you all. Using the pry bar like in this video is a great idea but if you're hanging a door from scratch eg. marking out the necessary positions where the hinges need to be located (normally on the door itself and the jamb), then either using a router or chisel & hammer to cut out the necessary timber to make hinge recess area can be a tad frustrating for a novice (read mind-blowing!). To help keep the door in the perfect position I suggest you carry a small book with you i.e. I personally use an old phone book as the height can be adjusted by fractions of a millimetre and the book's size spreads the area enough to cover virtually the whole of the bottom of the door therefore making a second choc for the most part redundant. Just a simple tip that's worked for me, I hope it does the same for you.
Love your simple and easy to follow videos. Helped so much with painting my house and can’t wait to tackle more projects in the future. you’re a saint Bill 👏👍
Ok Bud, I have watched a few of your vids now so I’m gonna sub. Love your delivery and you’ve got skills bro. As an aside, it’s great to watch a vid without a big intro and shitty music, just straight into it. Top YouTubing.
As always Bill amazing video thanks for sharing your knowledge with all of us. New house and it missing a screw in the hinge. New houses quantity over quality sadly.
This was very helpful! We have a door that we tried to straighten and could never get it to latch, now I have the proper tips to get the job done. Thank you!
That strike plate looked like it had already been moved? Looked not on right and looked like putty at the bottom to hide the fact they had to redo it at some stage?
Oh dear. New build you reckon! 🤦🏻♂️ Love the channel btw. Scott Brown Carpentry (a great NZ UA-camr builder/tools/carpentry channel) has a merch Tshirt he sells with the saying ‘But, can he hang a door?’ Clearly these builders couldn’t….. You must have chuckled a little going into a new build and charging some poor client to fix up the mess left by their ‘master builder’.
It's crazy how racy you make this stuff look. You're great! Just moved to a new house so I've been using a lot of your videos to make some repairs/ upgrades. Thanks so much!
Great video Bill, had to install a new door latch and handle a couple of months ago and one of your videos helped me do it. This one will really come in handy next time one of the doors stops closing properly!
Hi Bill, thank you so much for the video on how to tighten a toilet seat. You saved me hundreds of dollars. I was going to call a plumber then I watched your video and fixed the problem in five minutes. Keep up the good work.
Thanks heaps for the 'how to" .. I have 4 doors that don't latch properly and by the way you described it I think even I can do that... CHEERS! PS: Sometimes it is fixed on its own, either in winter/summer .. and it depends on the weather???
We recently moved into a house where the screen/storm door has one of those lever-type handles, but it will only work by pulling it up. You cannot push it down, it wont go. Any clue why and how to fix that?
The first trick helped thanks ❤
Great work mate and so simple
Another problem with these cheap hollow doors is that they deform in different weather conditions which can also affect the latching ability

Lol it’s probably a good thing that I lack editing skills then. I’m surprised I got UA-cam working 👍👍👍
You're so clever. Wish I'd known the crowbar trick when I did mine.
As always Bill amazing video thanks for sharing your knowledge with all of us. New house and it missing a screw in the hinge. New houses quantity over quality sadly.
Unfortunately I get just as much work from new houses as I do old 👍
@@billshowto Interesting Bill 👍👍

Just fixed my bathroom door, saved at least $50 from hiring a handyman
Such a perfect systematic way to figure out the core of the issue🙌
That strike plate looked like it had already been moved? Looked not on right and looked like putty at the bottom to hide the fact they had to redo it at some stage?
Welcome to newly built houses in Australia 👍
@@billshowto LOL Sad fact, Noting is ever built like it used to be.

Your videos are super helpful, thanks for making them!
Why can't I find a handyman like you in my area? Do you take on jobs in the southwest U.S. states?🙂
Thanks Billal.
Brand new house all yours for $1M. Doors not working of course.
Great video Bill, had to install a new door latch and handle a couple of months ago and one of your videos helped me do it. This one will really come in handy next time one of the doors stops closing properly!

No end to Bills talent!

@@billshowto If I was gay, I'd date you just because the house would always be flawless 😉

Wrong video
This channel is much better than TAFE to learn about the handyman job. Thanks, Bill, for sharing these tricks, especially the crowbar trick.👍👍👍
You’re very welcome 👍👍👍
Good tips Bill 🏴
Thank you for this video :)
Sound of the door closing is just satisfying
Im having this problem in 4 of my doors at my new house
Good tutorial . Thanks !
Hi Bill, mine is old house and door latch is going in too high on strike plate. Any suggestions please?
Would I pack out top hinge to drop it?
Pack out the top hinge to lower the latch and pack out the bottom hinge to raise the latch 👍
Brilliant! It works! using the A4 Paper trick. Thank you so much
You’re welcome 👍
Love your work Bill
👍👍👍
Best video out of 30 thanks
this worked perfectly for a door that was off centre after a large earthquake (south island NZ here :) )
Do you have a video of one that has latched and won’t open
Small tip with the drill, lock it in neutral when shifting or tightening a screw.
What do mean? On the torque setting?
Very informative thanks bill ur videos encouraged me to start my own handyman business and I’m loving it keep up the great work.
the paper trick was awesome! You're the best youtuber for handyman stuff.
Thanks for this video, it was quite resourceful. ❤
Thanks heaps for the 'how to" .. I have 4 doors that don't latch properly and by the way you described it I think even I can do that... CHEERS!
PS: Sometimes it is fixed on its own, either in winter/summer .. and it depends on the weather???
you're very welcome. This is also due to expansion and contraction as the weather changes 👍
@@billshowto Thank you...
thanks for your help
Hey Bill. Thanks.. your video wasn't boring and didn't have too many useless clips and repeated info. I appreciate the helpfulness
Good to know construction and workmanship is just as spotty in other countries. Stay in school kids!

Another ripper Bill…
We recently moved into a house where the screen/storm door has one of those lever-type handles, but it will only work by pulling it up. You cannot push it down, it wont go. Any clue why and how to fix that?
It could be installed backwards
Thanks bill. You are a saviour.
Whoa!
I use a tool called a Viking Arm to lift doors
I just looked it up. I haven’t seen those before 👍
Helpful tips. Like the paper trick. Also found a match stick or tooth pick in the screw hole when they don't tighten back up helps
Brilliant 👍
👍👍👍
Bill, you're a damn legend mate I hope you know that.
👍👍👍
