    I always thought the one Marine was called Baski, or Bausky.
    With Hicks asking "where's Bausky?!".
    Not too big a mistake I guess.
    Kinda like misheard lyrics. Ie "Excuse me while I kiss the sky", mistakenly heard as ".. while I kiss this guy" lol 😆.

      the scheming yuppie routine was kind of 'lame': All Burke had to do was task Bishop to 'stasis' the facehuggers, and Burke would be back with a platoon of combat synths (these are canon)--and be an asshole about how he wasn't concerned about the deaths of colonists; he saw what the creatures could do and to try to interfere or obstruct the Marines was foolish. His primary goal at that point was stick close to the shooters and try to not die. Hell, let Ripley tell her story--jail probably beats getting ripped apart from the inside out.
      What to do, instead? Who, knows? Maybe the Queen Xenomorph could telepathically influence him to either release the facehuggers or allow himself to be facehugged; then, just at the tensest moment in the medlab with the trackers beeping at maximum, Burke births a chestburster for maximum confusion.

      I will be doing Alien 3 for sure but I'm struggling over whether to cover the pre-production issues as it would turn into a 4-part series and that sounds a bit long to me. For now, the next video out will be a Christmas present for my listeners and that will be Galaxy Quest. Aliens, part 3 will be released in January and then I will do Empire Strikes Back before doing Alien 3. So, I have some time to mull over what I'm going to do with Alien 3. What do you think about a 4-part Alien 3 CMDR?

    • @CMDR_Verm

      @@RepresentThis Firstly, thanks for asking my opinion, that is a first lol. The problem with quite a few of the Alien movies is ''Do you discuss what is actually the finished product, or what might of been?''. Personally, if there's a Directors Cut or an alternative version which is different, however slightly, from the theatrical release, then I think it's worthy of discussion and, with Alien3, there is the ''Assembly Cut''. At least I think that's how its known and it's included in the Alien Quadrilogy. As far as the conceptual ideas for the movie are concerned (a wooden space station/planetoid etc) and David Fincher's problems with the producers then it's a question of how much time do you, personally, want to invest in making it. I'd certainly watch it because in your coverage of Alien and Aliens you've come up with details I didn't know about. And believe you me, I thought I knew it all lol. I don't know if any of that helps you to decide.
      Now Galaxy Quest is definitely one I'm looking forward to. That movie, to anyone brought up on the original Star Trek, is a masterpiece.
      Finally, I'd say that if you are going to cover ''Empire'' then I'll watch it because I enjoy your opinions. I know you didn't ask me about Galaxy or Empire but I've enjoyed your videos so much so far that you've got a devotee. More power to you Sir!

    That's awesome! I never knew the actor for Apone was a Vietnam vet and that Crowe was played by an SAS veteran. This is why the marines interactions feel so authentic. Fun fact: CROW is an insult in the British Army, usually referring to less experienced troops or someone who's not very good at the job. So I wonder if that was an intentional joke or a coincidence. Also Hudsons "game over" quote. I loved the line so much that during an ad break I went back on the VHS recording to listen to it again haha

    Re: The Aliens responding immediately to sounds in other entries, but ignoring the marines being noisy in the atmosphere processor.
    IIRC, the major difference is that other entries in the franchise only feature single drones, or smaller packs of drones, while Aliens has a Queen present. Kind of like Hudson's analogy to the aliens being like ants/bees, where the worker drones have limited intelligence and do things on a more instinctual level, while the queen is able to direct the colony to act in a more intelligent and coordinated manner.
    Of course, that's all predicated on the lay persons understanding of how "hive intelligence" was thought to work in the 80's.

    Burke may have been betting on Bishop being operable and everyone else dead.
    With the others out of the way, Bishop would have deferred to Burke's instructions without hesitation and without conflict to his perimeters for human preservation. There would have only been Burke left to preserve.
    Being both the property and an asset of the company, Bishop would have been answerable only to that same corporate entity (possibly also to Colonial Authorities, since the mission was under [questionable] Colonial Military auspices).

    I think the order in which the marines are taken out is more practical for script purposes than an intentional attempt to make the xeno's look smarter. Taking out the flamethrowers makes it more necessary for the smart guns to be put into action (for script reasons) and the same with taking out Apone. Maybe it's just a win / win for the script, but to make the intelligence of the Xeno's the driving force for this seems giving it too much credit.

    I'm loving your vids but I do have to point out that in Aliens, Dietrich did not die when she was grabbed. She was taken to be cocooned. Later on in the APC you see Hudson mention that her and Apone are still alive but with low signs. The Alien simply grabbed her and essentially ran off with her. And I'm actually surprised you didn't mention the fact that in the movie when they are about to be picked up, Bishop is nowhere around. They just left him in operations/medlab! Were they just going to hover back and pick him up outside operations? Lol. Yet in the novel Bishop does show up and joins the group waiting for the dropship. I always wondered if that was something Cameron just simply missed.

    Great video, but you’re wrong about the cocoon-scene. It was never canon since it didn’t feature in the theatrical release, which is the release that Scott sees as the “real” version of the film. It’s just a deleted scene and it was deleted for a reason 👍

    • @RepresentThis
      @RepresentThis  9 місяців тому +2

    • @GoranKlintenheim
      @GoranKlintenheim 9 місяців тому

      @@RepresentThis There’s no argument to be had. Ridley Scott himself says that the theatrical cut was the real movie as it was intended to be, and that’s it.
      Btw, if the cocoon-scene would be canon, then everything we learn about the xenomorph in the other movies is ruined 🤷‍♂️

    • @RepresentThis
      @RepresentThis  9 місяців тому +1

      @@GoranKlintenheim What argument? The context used in the video was that in the 1980's (NOT TODAY) it was a big deal for alien fans because it confirmed the existence of that scene in cannon (the aliens film novelization at that time). That is the context. I see no argument here. I do not say it is cannon with absolutism as I feel films are art to be interpreted by the INDIVIDUAL. In fact, the video stated it is debated to be cannon as of today. So why is the debate being argued when I acknowledge there is a debate and don't reveal what side I factually subscribe to. I am showing all the angles so anyone can interpret what they choose. And they have every right to choose whether they accept it to be cannon based on their own biases, it does not have to be about our individual opinions. If you don't want it to be cannon, wonderful, if you did, wonderful. The joy is to see movies how you choose. I am only trying to show as much depth as I can to deepen the experience for the films we love.

      Look, for those of us who considered egg-morphing canon, can't you queen lovers throw us a bone and consider it a secondary method of propagation?
      Ridley isn't the end-all, be-all of the Alienverse, despite the pedestal he's frequently placed on. If anything, it's O'Bannon's and Shusett's baby, for which Fox assembled a God-level tier of talented people to realize. And now, he's arguably done just as much damage to the franchise as contributing to it.
      The only reason why the cocoon sequence doesn't work has nothing to do with the alien's now-perceived biology, but timing, as it completely screws-up Ripley's mad dash to the Narcissus versus the 5-minute destruct countdown, which is why it was originally cut.
      Arrgh, I hate queen lovers.

      @@nicholashylton6857 I had always heard - and perhaps this is apocryphal - that Cameron didn't necessarily want to make an Alien sequel, but rather a Vietnam war flick a la Full Metal Jacket or Apocalypse Now, but couldn't get traction. So, his brainstorm was to couch Alien 2 as a marine-led battle romp with Vietnam-esque trappings, which is why it's VERY low-tech when it comes to the actual troops and their weapons (notice that there are no laser-based rifles like in the Terminator flicks). That way, he got to make his war epic and Fox got to cash-in on an Alien follow-up in the guise of an action film, a genre which was all the rage in the 80s.
      Like I wrote, that may be a myth, but that's what I've heard. If it is true, it doesn't make a whole heckuva lot of difference in the end, but it is interesting.
