I think the trilogy stands as a pretty solid set of shooters that aren't really as common anymore.Being honest I think the open world nature of Crysis is a bit overrated, and shitting on the linearity of Crysis 2 and 3 are sometimes a bit of unwarranted elitism, and people don't really give Crytek enough credit for putting effort into a well crafted single player campaign. Or maybe it's just me, and preffer a well crafted linear experience, rather than an aimless open world one.
"I think the open world nature of Crysis is a bit overrated" Oh I agree. The 2nd half of it and 2nd half of Warhead became very boring Space Invaders play, which I only completed once. The first half of both though are classic. I replay both annually and always take a different approach with a different objective-eg instead of playing on Hard, play Easy but never use suit powers. I quit as soon as the squids show up, just too uninteresting.
It isn't just the 'openworldness' that was lost in the sequels - I felt like the story really took a different direction too. Look at Warhead (granted it was an alternate perspective from the first game), it did have to create some unique story narratives - which were all amazing. Remember the Frozen ocean tide? It just was a larger narrative scope...
I think Crysis 2 had a perfect balance of having open and linear areas. C3 feels like the most basic fps out of the 3 and they took put the cover system of 2.
I fully agree with you on the OST which, like you said, is phenomenal. Some tracks like "New York Memories" and "What Are You Prepared To Sacrifice?" brought tears to my eyes just by listening to them.
At the end of Crysis 2, it seemed like NYC was all taken care of and that you were going to go to a different location to take on the Ceth there, but they just brought you back to NYC and turned it into a jungle.
I'd recommend taking a look at Crysis Warhead (basically Crysis 1.5). Feels a lot like the first game in it's game play and openness, but it also feels a little more focused. The character development is more interesting too (you play as Psycho).
I don't know I personally have enjoyed the Crysis series as a whole and think that the third entry is by far the best one. I myself loved the stealth elements of both of the newer games and forced myself to get trough sections of the game flawlessly without anyone spotting or being alerted to my position. And it was a lot of fun IMO especially with the Bow in the third entry. The first one was though OK at best and as you said the AI was so god awful that stealthily going trough the game wasn't a viable option as once you got spotted every one and their grandma knew exactly where you were so I basically just run and gunned trough that one. But back to the third game, I also immensely enjoyed the story and it really had an emotional effect on me by the end of it all. And the visuals.. Well lets just say you don't know what realistic graphics mean until you've played Crysis 3 Maxed out in 1440p 60fps :D
The graphics in this game are great but like a lot of modern AAA games there's this kind of sheen covering everything which makes it hard to see enemies so sometimes you can only tell where they are after they've already shot you. Battlefield 4 and Medal of Honor: Warfighter (it's shit don't play it) have this too and combined with other effects like lens flare and motion blur it can get pretty fucking annoying especially during night time missions.
Jack Hagan Exactly what i said. I'm just not a fan of all of the extra visual effects that devs use to make a game look more cinematic. It's like everything is covered in vaseline.
+Kit Emett How the fuck did you jump to that conclusion? He said it's sometimes hard to spot enemies because of the visual effects which sometimes can make the enemies and environments seem to blend together. All those visual effects are enabled on higher settings btw so your accusation goes out the window.
+Serpico's Beard Devs in recent years started just filling the screen with particle effects to make it look good. It can look great if it's done well, but sometimes it's just too much and it gets distracting. I have this problem with Batman Arkham Knight, where the whole game takes place in a rainstorm and it can be pretty annoying when flying through the city. But once you get inside and focus on the details, the game stops looking at impressive and you learn that models, animations and textures look only slightly better than in the previous games, and with low texture settings, it looks even far worse.
yeah, the damn scene was actually the most impressive looking part of the entire game. and i agree that the entire series isnt terrible. it was a good ride but something you can say: played it. done it. whats next?
Crysis 3 is my favorite of the seires for 2 main reasons. I really like the look of the environments and the vegetation taking over the city, and I am a sucker for a bow and arrow in FPS games.
I do have to say, that for a triple A game anyway... The devs of the Crysis games seemed to really put a bit of passion into their projects. Which is unfortunately becoming a rare sight these days.
I think your review is on point, but to defend the developer (and the industry) something has to be sacrificed for those graphics. A lot of people love amazing graphics but hate the shallow gameplay that comes with it. And I think it's a give and take situation. Games like Crysis have to be mass appeal to be able to fund the small army of artists and engineers making the game look as good as it does. Therefore such techniques get explored and become easier in the future. So that when the tech becomes affordable, smaller teams can make great games that look good to boot. Remember in the early 2000's and the best looking games at the time? The best looking games that spent loads of money and had huge teams. But now you can get that same level of fidelty on a budget. That's how I view these big budget spectacles. They pave the way for better looking games, and they are mass appeal to stay afloat. Because of that the tech becomes easier and cheaper and better games can look better in the future. I don't bemoan AAA games at all. They look great and feel great to play even if they're not the deepest gameplay experiences. But I know they contribute to the future of our medium. Crysis was a powerhouse, an expensive powerhouse. But now indie developers can get a hold of the Cryengine on a budget.
+GilgameshAurora If you can't understand the benefit of the creators of a game engine to use it and improve and work the kinks out of it then you don't know much. Since you don't care about visuals, there are plenty of games out there for you to play. Don't think that every game has to cater to your specific standards. And spend time looking for games you want to play and ignoring the rest instead of trying to force everyone to see things your way. Crytech using their engine helped them make the engine better. Helped them develop their tools because they had to. And to +Superhns, I never said using an engine automatically makes a great game. I said it helps smaller developers make better games than they would without. We wouldn't be having this indie renaissance without the ease of access to engines like Unreal, Cryengine and Unity.

The reason there's so much shit on the store is because Unity is super simple to get any shit running but it's a workhorse. It only works as well as the effort you put into it. Since shitty devs like Digital Homicide don't put work in, they don't get quality out. Unity is a lot like the lithtech. It's easy to learn, hard to master. Cryengine, Unreal and the like come prepackage with tons of effects that can turn on with a checkbox that make a game look more polished than it is. Seeya.
+GilgameshAurora I'm sure you're pleasant to talk to but I'm done with youtube comments for today. So like I said, seeya. Unironically have a nice day/evening.
I really think this channel is underrated like so many other channels with real substance, to the point I want to go out and shout "people please tell me how Bieber's videoclip Baby oh baby got a billion views?...". Then I sit back & chill for a bit, "they gonna lock in the asylum".
I have played maybe Crysis 1 over 10 times and completed it every time. Most since I downloaded that A.I mod who makes the A.I actually smart and challenging to play against. Crysis 2 I just found too linear, boring and dumbed down. It just didn't feel like Crysis. Are Crysis 3 more like Crysis 1? Edit: After seing your entire review I found out it is not for me. "more like Crysis 2,5" :p
+elguitarTom Actually Crysis 3 is much more like Crysis 1 but he called it 2,5 because it doesn't innovate in any way. But if you loved Crysis 1 and hated 2 then play 3 and you might very well like it (I know I did and I didn't like 2).
Something interesting that I've always wanted to know more about is how you approach difficulty. You seem to exclusively play games (at least shooters) on the harder difficulty modes. I find more often (even in Crysis 3 that I played sorta recently) that higher difficulty modes doesn't make a more compelling game. I always think of Call of Duty World At War on highest difficulty whenever I picture higher difficulty modes. I'd love to see you do a video on your approach. Why you play higher difficulty modes, what you like and don't like about them. And some games that do higher difficulty well.
Couldn't have said better myself Gggman, game developers these days have lost good ideas to make a game great, and when they rehash certain aspects of a game that makes it dull; then they expect the consumers to just go along with it...well not this guy.
in this game the minimum graphics settings looked just as good as the maximum ones. the texture quality didnt get worse, only the lightig was different but not really worse..thats something you dont notice anymore after 30 secs of gameplay anyway
I remember playing this game and really enjoying the ride, that surprised me considering I am not much of a shooters fan, though have given modern ones a try.
Looks really cool and I'll have to pick it up at somepoint. Good review Gggman. :) Thanks for reviewing the Crysis series. I was looking forward for each video to come out for the past week and a half.
You know, I didn't like Crysis 2 very much but I thought Crysis 3 was alright. The map design and game-play felt way better this time around to me and I actually had some fun.
crisis 3 was basically the game to end the story line but was mostly made for the multiplayer aspects, but over all it is 1 of the best games ever made even tho the hardest difficulty is the only difficulty to play it on, the 1st crisis is the best for the campaign tho
My favorite review channel after TotalBiscuit. Keep up the good work! Hope you get to 50000 subscribers or more this year. Can't wait to see your Doom review when it comes. Have you seen the new screenshots?
I really do think that if you're going to play one crysis game, it really should be the first. Not because it's the best, but because it's definitely the most unique. It's just kind of an old school shooter with big open areas to kill people. Basically a spiritual successor to the original Far Cry with super powers, instantly one upping the mutant powers you had in Far Cry Instincts. No upgrade systems or unlocking stuff and it still looks decent when it's contemporaries often aged pretty poorly. These days it's pretty easy to run and it's super cheap. It's the only one that despite sometimes getting pretty difficult, you feel extremely powerful the whole time. I especially loved using speed to zoom around and line up headshots or melee people. Playing stealth was fun too, but that speed power man. They never had anything like it afterwards.
Its quite funny that I just finished the crysis trilogy a day before you started uploading these reviews. What I expected from these games was about pure visual spectacle and servicable gameplay and thats pretty much what I got. I played the games on the highest difficulty intuitively because I played a lot of games on their hardest and wanted to start with a high curve for once, not because I was told the games were easy. Out of the bunch I think crysis 3 is the best on its own because it takes the polish of crysis 2 in a more open enviroment in comparison.
Crysis was a short-lived series with a lot of ups and downs, and while 3 was still far from perfect, it makes me happy to see the series go out on a decently-high note instead of devolving further into linear casual land beyond the second game.
Crysis 3 does a lot of things right. The combat feels really great and the graphics are jaw dropping. I enjoyed the level design and overall this was one of the best single player fps'es I've played in a long time. The sound effects are also top notch, and there is a real sense of scale to the maps.
There's always that period where I see a new video of yours in my sub box, but know it will only be available in 360p for about an hour. It's like I wanna click play but I know its best to wait.
I was kinda glad Crysis 3 was a bit on the shorter side. Like Gggmanlives said, it felt like a Crysis 2.5 (or even just an expansion) I still liked the first game the most though
Hehe! A great idea indeed. I think going in line with your channel's theme - action - you could review films that have good action, sci-fi or crime dramas. But if you really don;t have the time to take up another type of reviews i can totally understand. Rather than dilute your video game content to do films, better just stick to what you do best. Would be cool if you could review some iconic action movies though. GG!
Crysis 2 was awesome. C3 looked awesome and the bow was nice, but I had some serious issues with it. This game removed the whole tactical feel of having to scan the level before entering and there were areas near the end that I could just walk past. Then there's the part where I needed to buy a new keyboard because the button mashing bullshit at the end. Like seriously, what a cheap mechanic. Same with the end bosses. Either you die a million times because of a 1 shot mechanic, or you kill it in 10 seconds because it wasn't really hard to begin with, just cheap. Other people might disagree but that took the fun out of it for me, in the last areas of the game. It's as if the developers were told to wrap it up right when they were almost done. One last peeve I forgot to mention is the part where you start without weapons and the alien dog is thrashing you with its one shot mechanic.
TBH To Really Enjoy Crysis You Need To Play All 4 Games ..... Crysis 1 , Crysis Warhead , Crysis 2 & Crysis 3 ......... I Actually Loved The Predator Bow And Would Play The Whole Game With Just That And Pistol However The Amount Of Arrow Caches In The Game Can Make It A Rather Difficult Task To Do ...
The only way to truly appreciate this game is to play it on the hardest difficulty and make use of all gameplay mechanics (hacking, stealth, balls out FPS action). I liked this game a lot more after doing this. 8/10
Gggmanlives I cant imagine it, but get ready for more to come. With the rate that your channel is growing, expect that number to grow exponentially. I am just a measly peasant on youtube, so I really have no clue on what you could be going on with your channel. Good luck with your channel.
Something i have to praise in this game are the controls on the consoles (of mouse and keyboard is always better for shooters) but it was really responsive and using the powers was very easy.
My favorite of the series is still the 1st one. Released in 2007, made with high-end PC's in mind, it was a tech masterpiece that visually surpasses most games to this day. The gameplay also blew me away with how it shifted from typical tac shooter into a survival horror inside the alien ship, and then into full-on warzone in the last segment. Crysis 2 and 3... I didn't liked those. The multiplatform was visible (aka the game was gimped due to this), and everything seemed to be made in hollywood blockbuster action movie style, which I hate by this time.
It is a very familiar journey as you said. I could not wait to play it after Crysis 2. Crysis 3 is boring and i could not take it after i passed the freighter.
I just played Crysis 3 and while the story and gameplay was similar to COD/Ghost Reconish, Iwould easily rank it as being more immersive and more of a blast to play than most COD games and Ghost Recon Breakpoint, the story feels compelling and while it is COD’ish I would easily say it matches some of the best COD storylines to date, the immersion and the power fantasy easily outweighs the repetitiveness of the game, done better than or at least feels way more fun to play to me than games like Gears 5, Wolfenstein The New Colossus, and COD. The story was really compelling when compared to most COD titles, if you want to shoot some baddies and play a little stealth and have a power trip and some fun and some intrigue then this is your game 8..0 out of 10. The Seth enemies are as stated the same as the human enemies with more armor and agility, but the music, the tone and the environment they bring is creepy and horrible, even thee grenades they throw seem otherworldly, it’s the immersion of the sounds they make the music and the tension and the storyline that bring it all together to definitely make fighting the Seth creatures seem more creepy and horrid than playing regular human enemies. But then I also liked Dead Space 3. I played the game on Veteran and stayed up all night playing, it was a blast, also, this is my first Crysis game.
I think that it is not about running out of good ideas but it is about companies caring more about just making the big bucks then making a game for gamers themselves. DooM (1993) was made not with big money in mind but a game for gamers made by gamers.
I remember when this game came out. I had just gotten my very first gaming pc and I was ecstatic to play it on my gtx 660 ti and intel i5 3450 with 5 gigs of ram. It ran on high to ultra and looked amazing. This series was clearly a passion project for a man who had one great idea and then it died when that idea was fully exhausted. I will miss it dearly. The bow in the third game was also a great addition. This is around the time when all games started adding bows like assassins creed and tomb raider reboots once the mechanic was perfected just like aim down sights in fps games a few years before.
GFUNKMW It's a comic book "inspired" shooter where you play as a cybernetically (?) enhanced superhero completing quests and saving citizens, sort of like Strife, except closer to Deus Ex mixed with Batman. Oh, and it was designed by D. W. Bradley and produced by Warren Spector.
GFUNKMW It's a lot of fun, but it's unfortunately unavailable outside of abandonware sites. Which is a shame, because you can really see the early ideas for Deus Ex starting to form, from the location based damage to the multiple solutions to problems. I just hope it gets recognition eventually.
readcomiconline.to/Comic/Crysis Honestly? I wish this would've been crysis 2 because this story sounds way cooler and more impactful, cause it involves nearly every character form the first game.
did replaying these games in the past couple of weeks make you like the series more? becouse in your crysis 1 video you said you're not really into these games but now you're saying they're very enjoyable
It's funny how when this released, it was considered same-y bc every game was an FPS, but THIS gen has a serious lack of quality Sci-Fi FPS (on console), and I'd love the Trilogy Remastered for PS4/X1X. But if they wait and do it for the PS5 / Series X Launch, CRYTEK can really deliver the Max Fidelity. I mean the Xbox One X could probably run C3 on Ultra, but they should just wait since the next consoles are months away. I know Crysis Remastered was announced for current Gen, but that may still be a watered down cash grab like the 360 one.
I hated fighting the ceph in this game compared to the other 2 games. In crysis 3 they just sort of always just... explode. I liked in the 2nd game how they had more 'weight' to them. Tessellation left something to be desired as well. Good game, just stepped backwards in some aspects.
They should give us what we really want... Crysis 1 like game with open and realistic gameplay and reduce all this aliens crap. Also give us back the first nanosuit!

+Bardockendo Yep.
Great Review and i love the way that ggg says Shit xD
+mohammad hussien i like the way he says sonny jim
+mohammad hussien I love the way he talks in general!
+mohammad hussien Strahyan Accent
Sengial i was talking about his deep voice.
Shyiet
"Hit the weak spot for massive damage"... Love it
in this game the minimum graphics settings looked just as good as the maximum ones. the texture quality didnt get worse, only the lightig was different but not really worse..thats something you dont notice anymore after 30 secs of gameplay anyway
I think this game has some pretty good music.
I really enjoyed this game on Ultra. Was gorgeous.
I’m sorry, but this games music and graphics are fucking beautiful.
"Chevalier... Though I can not say how... I believe you have cheated me."
I remember playing this game and really enjoying the ride, that surprised me considering I am not much of a shooters fan, though have given modern ones a try.
Loved crysis 3 back in the day. Haven’t played it in a fart minute.
Looks really cool and I'll have to pick it up at somepoint. Good review Gggman. :) Thanks for reviewing the Crysis series. I was looking forward for each video to come out for the past week and a half.
0:45 song?
Really good review!! They keep getting better and better!
Keep up the awesome work!
You know, I didn't like Crysis 2 very much but I thought Crysis 3 was alright. The map design and game-play felt way better this time around to me and I actually had some fun.
Crysis 1 review: I don't really like this series
Crysis 3 review: on the whole, it's a really enjoyable series.
yes I don`t like Crysis 1 that much, but I enjoy 2 & 3!
Original Crysis are still the best. The suit ability was perfect
And it made no sense, like Speed Mode. And the shotguns in this game... Lmao. Crysis 2&3 are DA BEZT
Crysis 1... meh...
Always look forward to your vids GGG. Keep them coming bro!
0:00 gotta go change my pants after that.
I think it is easily the best looking game on PC ever released
This game's bullet hits you like a slap on the bum eh?
Guess I don't have to slap my own bum by myself no more.
*buys 10 copies*
crisis 3 was basically the game to end the story line but was mostly made for the multiplayer aspects, but over all it is 1 of the best games ever made even tho the hardest difficulty is the only difficulty to play it on, the 1st crisis is the best for the campaign tho
I know I’m 3 years late but what about the VietCry mod? I had a lot of fun playing it and I think it’d make an interesting video.
My favorite review channel after TotalBiscuit. Keep up the good work! Hope you get to 50000 subscribers or more this year. Can't wait to see your Doom review when it comes. Have you seen the new screenshots?
+Cyberdemon1542 Yeah it looks...okay I guess.
Crysis was a short-lived series with a lot of ups and downs, and while 3 was still far from perfect, it makes me happy to see the series go out on a decently-high note instead of devolving further into linear casual land beyond the second game.
i don't get how can the suit make weapons invisible?
i mean - if everything u touch become invisible, so the floor or a car should be invisible too.
i just found your channel, great reviews! subbed :)
+Crystal Methallica Thanks!
A typical completion time of this game is about 7 hours, but due to its openness it can be beaten in less for sure.
Crysis 3 does a lot of things right. The combat feels really great and the graphics are jaw dropping. I enjoyed the level design and overall this was one of the best single player fps'es I've played in a long time. The sound effects are also top notch, and there is a real sense of scale to the maps.
goddamn this series is brilliant
There's always that period where I see a new video of yours in my sub box, but know it will only be available in 360p for about an hour. It's like I wanna click play but I know its best to wait.
I was kinda glad Crysis 3 was a bit on the shorter side. Like Gggmanlives said, it felt like a Crysis 2.5 (or even just an expansion)
I still liked the first game the most though
Hey Gggman, is there a possibility that you could start to review films? That would be awesome :)
+BKay What films would you like to see?
I have no idea haha. Maybe films such as Pulp Fiction or Taxi Driver. Or even do a list of films from certain genres.
+Gggmanlives Hard boiled. You reference it enough.
How about movies based on games ?
GG!
This game feels pretty good, on the hole..
I thought the first crysis was the best because I love the island and the introduction
I Actually Loved The Predator Bow And Would Play The Whole Game With Just That And Pistol However The Amount
Of Arrow Caches In The Game Can Make It A Rather Difficult Task To Do ...
Loved this game’s multiplayer back on the 360, sunk so many hours into it 😁
The only way to truly appreciate this game is to play it on the hardest difficulty and make use of all gameplay mechanics (hacking, stealth, balls out FPS action). I liked this game a lot more after doing this. 8/10
An older game that i loved was First to Fight on PC, think of reviewing it?
+JustAnotherUA-camr If I own copies of games I will review them, a lot of requests I don't own, sadly.
Gggmanlives I understand, you have a ton of fans and probably hundreds of suggestions. Thanks for a reply.
JustAnotherUA-camr
Every time I look at my back log it makes me cry.
Gggmanlives I cant imagine it, but get ready for more to come. With the rate that your channel is growing, expect that number to grow exponentially. I am just a measly peasant on youtube, so I really have no clue on what you could be going on with your channel. Good luck with your channel.
At 7 seconds what's that game at the top left?
Something i have to praise in this game are the controls on the consoles (of mouse and keyboard is always better for shooters) but it was really responsive and using the powers was very easy.
Could you review Crysis Warhead? I'd like to know your opinion about how it stacks up.
The menu music was the shit
Help me find that sound track that starts playing as soon as the chokehold begins!
+gggmanlives I know you mostly do fps but you ever going to do a witcher 3 review ?
+Porter Balls Nope.
+Gggmanlives perfect dark
I played this on ultra textures and everything else set to low,
it is still one of the most beautiful games I´ve seen
Ever played Cybermage: Darklight Awakening?
+Jacob Smith sounds fucking cool
GFUNKMW It's a comic book "inspired" shooter where you play as a cybernetically (?) enhanced superhero completing quests and saving citizens, sort of like Strife, except closer to Deus Ex mixed with Batman. Oh, and it was designed by D. W. Bradley and produced by Warren Spector.
the name may be the coolest name ever given to a video game .. will check it out on GOG
GFUNKMW It's a lot of fun, but it's unfortunately unavailable outside of abandonware sites. Which is a shame, because you can really see the early ideas for Deus Ex starting to form, from the location based damage to the multiple solutions to problems. I just hope it gets recognition eventually.
+Jacob Smith Maybe it will be one for Night Dive studios to revive? :)
Thid vid came out 7 YEARS ago? My man, high quality content for the longest time!
Very good review. Thank you.
What do you plan to do next, gg?
+Rappy You'll have to wait and see :)
brilliant video are you going to review Crysis warhead?
He did crysis. it's the same game.
No crysis warhead is a totally different games inbetween crysis 1 and 2
+zemaj0 only the plot. everything else is exactly the same.
+zemaj0 Maybe.
Do you have to go into spoiler-y story for the review? I kinda depend you before I buy and that kinda sucks.
what is the song used at the end of the video?
Nice review. So what's next Sunny Jim?
+JangianTV It's a secret.
+Gggmanlives Nice! Look forward to it.
Are you going to do Crysis Warhead? I think it's better then Crysis tbh.
+Ian Knau Maybe.
*than
+Gggmanlives Is there a chance you'll look at the Arma series?
+GuyOnAChair Not any time soon.
Ha
1.crysis 3
2.crysis 2
That’s all I’ve played
Are you going to review crysis warhead? That's my favourite
But, what happened to Nomad?
readcomiconline.to/Comic/Crysis
Honestly? I wish this would've been crysis 2 because this story sounds way cooler and more impactful, cause it involves nearly every character form the first game.
did replaying these games in the past couple of weeks make you like the series more? becouse in your crysis 1 video you said you're not really into these games but now you're saying they're very enjoyable
+Hayden sicklad No, I just enjoy 2 & 3 more than 1.
nice review mate. subed
Thanks pal!
can you review Darkwatch?
Are you going to review The Nameless mod for Deus ex in the future?
+rezaka116 I don't plan to.
The FoV and weapon model scale..
They should give us what we really want... Crysis 1 like game with open and realistic gameplay and reduce all this aliens crap. Also give us back the first nanosuit!
great as always
