I’m surprised Santino Marella wasn’t on the list. He became a great comedy act later on, but he wasn’t a comedy wrestler when he first won the title in the Milan Miracle.
After watching hours and hours of wrestling documentaries at work, I can say with confidence that The Rock is a genuine asshole. He took liberties with chairshots to the head of Mick Foley, he absolutely buried Billy Gunn without going over it with him prior(which is something Rock is very big on himself), and in modern day, he just thinks he can come into the WM main event after not being on the active roster on over a decade, close to two decades, have a main event match with the champ and throw Rhodes, and expect ppl to eat it up. This is coming from someone who watched WCW and WWF from 98 - 03 with Rock and Austin being my favorite.
Road dog holding that title in the middle of the attitude era was such a mistake. His ceiling was the tag belt, or if the team had to break up I’d say the euro/hardcore title. EVERYONE was over. I remember that same Wrestlemania Zach Ryder was in a Snickers commercial with Ric Flair and Charlotte. I'm convinced that's the only reason he won the IC title.
I know what I'm about to say can either be puzzling or mind-boggling. But here's a "What If..." Should the Undertaker had an IC title reign (despite the fact that he has done way more than anything else he had done in his 30+ year career in the WWE), would that be considered as him being a failed champion? Because in hindsight, the closest he would had gotten close for the IC title belt was against Goldust in 96, before Foley (then as Mankind) costed Taker the match, thus in the process preventing the Phenom to become a member of the WWE Triple Crown club eventually.
In my opinion, there’s a difference between a time as champion that was largely uneventful and over too soon versus a long run that in turn didn’t make the championship itself feel that important. Example being Ricochet, my personal favourite wrestler of all time, who correct me if I’m wrong, only defended it once on tv and lost it in that first defence. (I forgot the name of the account, but there’s one on Instagram where the fantasy booked Ricochet as I.C champion and it looks really good.) Now compare that to the Miz, someone people for some reason think was a great Intercontinental Champion, but history shows he only had one good match with the thing, was always a mid card player, in all honesty, only made it feel more important because of his promos against other superstars like John Cena, Roman Reigns and Danielson about how pissed off he was.
Actually Ricochet successfully defended it 4 times on TV. But I don't blame you for forgetting it. If you wonder he defend it once against Sami, once in Triple Threat against Angel & Humberto, once against Jinder Mahal, and once against Shanky
Seeing this list makes me so grateful that Gunther is the current ic champion. In fact, I had an idea that would've put the intercontinental championship back to the main event status, have Gunther retire brock lesnar at wrestlemania! Think about it not only would've made Gunther the man to beat in the wwe more than roman reigns, but it also would've taken the ic title back to the main event next to the wwe and world heavyweight titles! But thanks to Vince Mcmahon's lawsuit, that's not gonna happen.
most of these entries were Tag Team guys who never cut it as a singles star. Therefore: Don't put the title on tag team guys trying to make them single with such a high title.
Definitely should’ve included Ezekiel in the video. He wasn’t at that level with ring work, he was trying but not connecting with the audience, and his bring go-to was a meathook clothesline. He didn’t have any memorable feud after he won it.
I still find it odd that Billy wasn’t a bigger star. Like you said he had the look, he was good on the mic and he was a great wrestler. I think the trouble was he was trying to make it when the rock, stone cold, Jericho, angle, hhh etc were there. You have to be very very special to compete with those guys. The roster was just too stacked at that time
The only guilty party in Shane Douglas failing so miserably in both WWE and WCW was Shane Douglas. He did nothing but constantly complain and blame others, like Ric Flair in WCW, for his failures, while virtually doing nothing to change things up. Many say that that was the reason WWF didn't hire him back in January 2000, along with Benoit, Malenko, Guerrero and Saturn, even though he originally left WCW with them, leading him to returning to WCW in April of the same year, continuing to blame Flair for his failures.
Ricochet’s run for a couple months in 2022, Apollo Crews for a LONG time in 2021 (both never defended the title on PPV or even had real feuds) and both of Nakamura’s runs deserve to be on this list.
Unpopular opinion but I’d take X-Factor over the New Day anytime, X Factor had good wrestlers like X pac and Credible, Albert who actually looked like a bouncer, New Day has Kofi who’s a midcard like them, Big E that if kept series could have been a monster but they goofed him up and Woods that’s a jobber and always had to tag along in any company
What I don’t understand is why people blame the person. Y’all realize that it’s the booking that determines who gets titles. If someone “isn’t” good it has less to do with skill and lore to do with booking. Like with Shane “Dean” Douglas he was a great talent but only had the IC title for an hour. That is 100% percent not his fault. The booking decided to give him the title for an hour. If they had more faith in him they could have given him a long reign but instead because they didn’t have faith in him they only gave it to him for an hour. That is not in anyway his fault. Great talents if booked wrong are screwed and not always by their own doing.
they dont always blame the Performers. they often mentioned that the Reigns were bad due to bad booking by WWE. but it was also often because the Performers werent charismatic enough to make the Reign a good one or not talented enough. so it was often both sides fault and not always from the WWE.
@@human_hope i dont wanna argue cuz im maybe wrong here, but im pretty sure i saw her in that exacr t shirt while wearing long black dress and heels. I mean 2000s fashion was way 2 crazy
Even people like Zach Ryder who had memorable happy moments winning the title is better than a number of runs you left off this list like just recently Ricochet and Apollo Crews (who held it from Wrestlemania until August and never defended it on PPV) and also Nakamura who had it a long time twice and almost never defended it on ppv too.
I mean, you could just say "Albert" was the IC champ and leave the explanation there. Arguably he could've had a decent run as A-Train (particularly during the period Heyman managed him) but when your gimmick is "Albert", you don't cut promos, and you wrestle in street clothes you're toast before you even get to ring work. (Matt Bloom for what its worth, was probably better worker then he really got to show) Test's douchey immunity run post-invasion was arguably the highlight of his career, I'd argue.
Oh, shut up. They put the belts on these guys to try and give them a push. It didn't work, but you're criticising them like they weren't worthy of taking a chance to see if they could become something bigger. No one can predict if a push will work or not.
Chyna’s IC run was awful as well, the good house keeping matches and Jeff Jarrett were so poor and even Y2J struggled to get a half way decent match out her.
Bret wasn’t sick, nor did him considering going to WCW was the reason behind him dropping the belt. The plan was always to be Hart vs Piper at Wrestlemania 8 with Piper coming in as IC champ. Hart negotiating with WCW was a coincidence.
The Mountie, Marty Jennety, Ahmed Johnson, Mark Mero, Dean Douglas, Val Venis, Road Dogg, The Godfather, Dlo Brown, Billy Gunn, Albert, Santino, Ezekiel Jackson, Curtis Axel, Zack Ryder, they are all the worst IC champions of all time.
I would include the British Bulldog, despite winning the title in a high profile match against Bret Hart, his reign was brief and not particularly memorable....

But thanks to Vince Mcmahon's lawsuit, that's not gonna happen.
cierto, ni me acordaba que Ryback había sido campeón intercontinental
most of these entries were Tag Team guys who never cut it as a singles star.
Therefore: Don't put the title on tag team guys trying to make them single with such a high title.
I was expecting The Godfather to make the list.
Definitely should’ve included Ezekiel in the video. He wasn’t at that level with ring work, he was trying but not connecting with the audience, and his bring go-to was a meathook clothesline. He didn’t have any memorable feud after he won it.
The XFactor theme is one of the top ones man it’s such a banger.
Cannot believe you didnt include Ezekiel Jackson
I still find it odd that Billy wasn’t a bigger star. Like you said he had the look, he was good on the mic and he was a great wrestler. I think the trouble was he was trying to make it when the rock, stone cold, Jericho, angle, hhh etc were there. You have to be very very special to compete with those guys. The roster was just too stacked at that time
So they saying The rock is part of the blame Billy guns Reign was trash😔😔😔
I must be the only person on earth like X Factor theme song 😂😂😂
For some reason these videos are better with British commentators.
They made Curtis Axel win the IC title on father's day. All that did for him was put on a microscope on he stating you are not like your dad.
The Miz And Razor Ramon Are The Best Intercontinental Champions 🏆 Of All Time 🐐
U should make a video on the tag titles n Royal Rumble winners please
I liked Curtis Axel reign I felt like it should have been longer
Unpopular opinion but I’d take X-Factor over the New Day anytime, X Factor had good wrestlers like X pac and Credible, Albert who actually looked like a bouncer, New Day has Kofi who’s a midcard like them, Big E that if kept series could have been a monster but they goofed him up and Woods that’s a jobber and always had to tag along in any company
Oh man there’s some awful I.c champs for sure
I reckon after the attitude era an a-train or Albert run would do amazing. He’s a brutal wrestler when allowed to be
bret didnt have the flu. he was in contract negotiations. he was considering a wcw run. the belt was taken off of him.
The one good thing about Ryback’s IC title win was the table for three with Him, Dolph Ziggler, and Daniel Bryan.
I didn't need to be reminded all these failures
6:46 they billed him as 6"6 😅such liars. Stephanie is 5'7 there's no way he's 6'6. 6'1-2 at best
Have u heard about heels? Women sometimes wear them
@@bigboyflexxx1n780 Stephanie is in T shirt there, doubt she's wearing heels in that segment
@@human_hope i dont wanna argue cuz im maybe wrong here, but im pretty sure i saw her in that exacr t shirt while wearing long black dress and heels. I mean 2000s fashion was way 2 crazy
Ezekiel Jackson was a glaring omission here
Even people like Zach Ryder who had memorable happy moments winning the title is better than a number of runs you left off this list like just recently Ricochet and Apollo Crews (who held it from Wrestlemania until August and never defended it on PPV) and also Nakamura who had it a long time twice and almost never defended it on ppv too.
10:33 Hart was supposed to wrestle The Mountie at the Royal Rumble not Piper.
Jacques Rougeau was a quality wrestler.
There is a not a huge technical gap between the in ring work of Roadie and the in ring work of Val Venus who he won it off.
(Matt Bloom for what its worth, was probably better worker then he really got to show)
Test's douchey immunity run post-invasion was arguably the highlight of his career, I'd argue.
Oh, shut up. They put the belts on these guys to try and give them a push. It didn't work, but you're criticising them like they weren't worthy of taking a chance to see if they could become something bigger.
No one can predict if a push will work or not.
You can't really say that about Dean Douglas or Ryder. A 24-hour (or less) reign is not a push.
Dolph Ziggler and miz were awesome with ic title
IC Title in the 80s: 💖
IC Title now: 💩
DAVID ARQUETTE
add Marty Jannetty,Ezekiel Jackson, Big Show
I would include the British Bulldog, despite winning the title in a high profile match against Bret Hart, his reign was brief and not particularly memorable....
Before Road dogg the Intercontinal champion the hallmatk of the ic champ was the ability to go in the ring.
Ultimate Warrior says hi
