Did you have green one with plastic windows
Watching this video reminds me of Peter and that crazy carbon eclipse. You never said at the time but what happened between you two?
Step one. get a dodge stealth step two. Drive it have fun. Step three better turbos. Step 4. Give to me........
Alex, are you selling the porsche?
@legitstreetcars I too enjoy the forbidden blue shop rags.
Loving the DSMs. Next how about a stealth twin turbo or 3000GT VR4. One of my favs from the 90’s.
Let's see Alex tackle a 300ZX TT.
Those engine bays are so crowded. It was a major pain to work on.
I second the Z32
Man I wanted a 3000GT VR4 more than any other car as a kid
We are 2jz swapping my stealth!
VR4s are where it's at
I have a 1995 GSX also, sadly it has been sitting untouched for damn near a decade while I have been off in the 4x4 and V8 powered world. I want to get my car up and running again and I keep seeing these videos on DSM's bringing the itch back out. I ran a FP black turbo for a few years and that thing was awesome until it suicided and the exhaust turbine tried to eat the housing.
Yes more eclipse content 😁👍
Keep the dsm videos coming! I recommend anti seize for the turbo bolts; it makes them easier to remove and less likely to snap. Also those washers on the exhaust manifold are conical which help keep the bolts from backing out as long as you tighten them while hot
i recently went for a green . i had a much bigger turbo, the fp green is the perfect turbo for a street driven DSM.u need to get some studs and a head gasket so u can turn up the boost.. around 25 lbs the 4g63 turns into a new kinda beast. good job on the mods and the videos
Dude, this makes Saturday mornings just like when I used to watch “The Power Block” many many years ago. Super talented at not only what you do, but also at being able to articulate it.
4g63 and awd paired with a moderate turbo and fuel system is cool. I love all cars. There like legos. This guy living out my dream. Thanks for the amazing content. Not some corny ass videos but well done and very satisfying.
My first car was a 1995 Eclipse gs and my second car was a 1991 eagle talon tsi awd. These videos are making me nostalgic and really wanting another one. I miss the days when dsms were $2500.
Similar story here! Went from a 420a Talon to a 95 tsi awd. She was $1500 and required every body panel i could donate from the first car (due to rust). Due to the nostalgia i ended up buying a rust free 95 Eclipse GST but the FWD just wasnt the same.. So im in the process of AWD swapping it right now using a donor car.
@datgroovy I had a 93 tsi awd 14 years ago. Recently bought an unmolested 91 with a snapped timing belt swapped the head with a slow boy stage 1, head studs all new timing.. It's FWD. While I love the squat and dig of the AWD.. parts are way harder to come by (rear axles, tcase, trans, ect) fwd is still super fun
Never loose the kid in you, man. What makes your videos so wholesome. God bless and much love from Az. 🙏🏻🤙🏻
I think this is why I keep watching. That kid full of excitement backed by "i actually know what I'm doing".
never *lose (loose means not tight)
After buying an inductor for removing rusty bolts and nuts our garage never looked back ........looks like a tool you could use 😂

ive been waiting so long for this car to get its turn
These cars do NOT have a bad rap at all, they are THE best 4cyl turbo vehicles and engines EVER made.
Cast Iron 4G63 4 EVA!!!!!!!!
They handle amazing and can be made VERY fast.
The worst decision of my life was selling mine years ago.
I will regret that as long as I live.
They have a terrible rep! In my area us Dsm guys are just shit on, even if we wax the floor with the persons car. The stigma of being unreliable because they were poorly maintained still very much exists.
You want another one their still easy to find, I picked up 2 more right before christmas.
@@robbalinski1606 yah car people are like old myths - 25 year old common issues that broke these cars that dont exist and WE STILL GOTTA HEAR ABOUT THEM
@@robbalinski1606what’s a good price for one not running?
@@ethangonzales3000 I've paid as little as $400 for none runners. its a crap chute if the motors f'd or not but I've only been burned twice out of 34 cars. Usually just a timing failure and head swap with new timing components and away I go.
The cheaper they are the more work they usually need so keep that in mind and be willing to do the work
Alex. Usually it’s easier to pull the exhaust manifold/turbo/o2 housing all in one unit. Just 2 down pipe bolts below and the nuts for the head to manifold.
Yes, exactly. Then just hand tighten the manifold to turbo bolts on a bench and final tighten those 4 bolts once back in the car.
I was thinking the same thing but I also saw one of the exhaust manifold studs was already broken/missing so I'd be hesitant to pull the FP exhaust manifold if those things are already starting to snap.

Great... Now I want a Mitsubishi plane...
You need a GM 3" MAF and maf converter to run it after the BOV and vent to atmosphere.
Also ditch that pos old ass Tial BOV and get you an HKS SSQ which are badass!
Why would he use old tech like a GM maf when he is using speed density?
@@Rumsey.30HATE Because he is not using speed density right now, nor can he.
Using speed density requires a standalone ECU or DSM link which he is not using that I have seen.
All that is also way more money and headache then you need when a simple reliable 3" GM maf with converter works perfectly simply and cheaply.
Greddy type s or nothing.
@@riverpirate1022did you somehow miss the part of the video where he was getting a remote tune to run speed density? Talkin outta your ass at this point 🤷🏿♀️
Why in the holy heck would you not use a couple grommets? Seriously! Sharp metal, DC electrical, and fuel & vapors. All in a vehicle that WILL see extreme usage. C’mon, Alex.
Those FP Green turbos are a go-to for DSM mods. When I first built my Colt I had a real MHI Evo III B16G turbo on it and it pulled hard, but nothing like when I got a real MHI 20G that I ported.
I didn’t know if the Conquest was an unofficial predecessor to the Eclipse/Talon/Laser lineup. It seemed they had a top-end Conquest Tsi, perhaps AWD, and it would have been logical that perhaps Dodge/Plymouth had already been working with Mitsubishi before the DSM cars came in ‘90.
I do not think any of the conquest/stations came AWD. If I remember correctly they were all RWD. I knew several people that stuffed a 4G63 into them though.
They were RWD
I always wanted a DSM, but I'm too tall. There's absolutely no headroom for six footers unless you're reclined into the back seat.
Alex I'm sure you already know, but when you have one hard to reach bolt like that turbo bolt, break the others free and then re-tighten them before trying to break that last bolt loose. If you leave the others at all loose then there is more pressure on the underside of that bolt head.
Yeah I guess hey? It would reduce SOME pressure by retightening the other 3, thanks.
Your BOV is venting to atmosphere and the engine will NEVER run properly right like that.
Your throwing out measured air the ECU has already compensated for.
You need a 3" GM MAF and maf converter to run it behind the BOV before the TB so venting the BOV does not affect readings.
Your doing this all wrong bro.
You WILL melt the stock plastic fan blades with a big turbo and manifold like this.
I melted mine on a bushing 50trim turbo running 20lbs and 550 hp.
You need a metal fan blade upgrade, or slim fans to get them further away from the turbo/manifold.
Running it hard that turbo and manifold WILL get GLOWING red hot.
I wish peter was still in the videos.
Might wanna go through every screw and window seals. Make sure everything is tight and secure if that thing had a big stereo system.
Guy is definitely a theatre kid
Feel like Peter should pop out and help with this one? What happened to him?

I also want to know what happened to Peter
Whatever he did wasn't good for Alex to part ways with him. I'm assuming he had some personal issues that wasn't in line with Alex's vision of his shop and channel.

great car, golden era of Mitsubishi. Personally love Evo's more would love to see one on your channel but would be repetitive since this is very similar 4g63 awd

Plot Twist - Peter, with a last chance act of revenge, got a job at twins tuning and worked his was up after several months on the job. He eventually was assigned to remotely tune Alex’s Eclipse and was successful in tuning a timed self destruct of the engine.

😅😅😅
This makes me miss my 97 tsi awd turbo it had loads of turbo lag but god was it fun and not much on the road could keep up with it through the bends !
Fastest car I've ever driven in my life. A friends heavily modded car. I passed a cop on a side road in town, running around 50 in a 20. He hit the cherries and I stomped it. Took the corner at a four way stop running 40mph and it just took it perfectly. Hit the highway and it was bouncing off the top speed limiter at 142mph. The local town cop finally got on to the highway and about a half mile in, he shut off his lights and turned around. Gave up. I came back to town about an hour later.
At my funeral I just want turbo noises and two stroke sounds!
Haha! A couple of 250s ripping some red bull x fighters stuff on your mound of dirt? 🤘
I can't be certain from video, but looks like you crimped that blue 14-16AWG butt splice with one squeeze, in the middle. This would be incorrect; needs two squeezes, one for each wire (each end of splice). This is because one well of crimp tool crimps wire strain relief, while the other crimps electrical terminal sleeve, to narrower (tighter) dimension.
Love the turbo upgrade videos! Great one Alex and crew!
I seem to have missed something. Ive noticed for months now, NO PETER?!? What happened, where is Peter? I mean its not that big of a deal, but he just disappeared from the videos and no mention of anything? This was defenitly one of the cara they both loved.

Do,keep up the interesting vid’s.
I looove these cars Alex!! it's great to see you bringing them back from the past years of turbo Tuner history 😍😍😍🔥
I've never been into the JDM scene but the amount of power those little engines make for relatively cheap - these motors are hard toe beat.
It's all to do with engine dimensions and square strokes and the like
Plus they like boost 😁
It's great till your crank says it's going out for cigs and never comes home.
Well your buddy was a fool, and obviously cant keep cars together, the company you keep says a lot about you!@firstname9811
@legionof0ne441 that's not usually a issue 99 percent of the time the head gasket goes it takes a lot of boost or someone getting greedy with timing the stock rods and piston are very strong especially in 4 cylinders like this that are built as a forced induction engine but even the naturally aspirated short block are solid for 400 or better. You must not have much experience with these cars or your just not very good at it
@@neilorange4112 I love DSMs and Evos, the 4G63 is a goat 4banger. It just has thrust bearing issues in the 2nd gens.

I had that same turbo! This was back in the day and the best tuning we had was Apexi AFC. I never could get it tuned perfect on my own, it was always rich but still smashed on the street. Nothing beat doing 5500 rpm launches and just dropping the clutch. Takes me down memory lane, thanks for that!
Everyone was having fun except your transmission synchros 😅
@@greyclassic6563That's why God invented Shep Transmissions!
@@greyclassic6563 I had to do the 2-3 shift very specific or it would grind. The transmissions when power was added was the weak link. Part of the issue was the shift tower was mounted with rubber bushings lol. That was a common mod, to actually bolt it down. The next fun thing was the heavy clutches killed the bushings in the clutch linkage under the dash. It's actually a huge list! Very fun cars though!
@@kott0nzI remember welding the motor mounts solid and it helped a ton with shifting and making the car feel solid
Why do you do drop-clutch launches? I do slip-clutch launches around the turbo threshold. It’s a bit trickier to nail perfectly, but it does break the rest of the driveline … just wears out the clutch.

My sisters friend had a base Talon of the same generation and you could tell the Eclipse was in a different league. He stopped on a country road and launched it, I just remember thinking it was quite ‘violent’, lol.

Growing up a friend of mines dad had one. It was pretty cool. Made ya rethink the taurus

I hate states that salt the roads! They started using heavy salt and salt brine here in WA and vehicles are starting to look like they're from Minnesota!
Us car peoples should figure out a way to hold the states responsible for making our cars rust away.
Honestly, I haven’t even seen one of those running in over a decade! Neat little cars and good to see one coming back to life!
Question, should you use a zinc plated bolt on an exhaust manifold? Won’t the heat melt zinc and make it loosen?
And with the undercar sprayer, add vinegar to the water 50/50 and it will neutralize the salt!
