Power from a nearly totally dead battery.
This Joule Thief work at a very very low input voltage from 0.035 to 0.080 volts and the output voltage is 2.7 volts, to the LED. An ordinary Joule Thief work down to 0.6 to 0.8 volts, because of losses in the transistor.
This transistor STN841 is a low drop type.
Correction Transistor: 2 is the collector and emitter is 3.
    NPN 5 amps 120 volt.

Correction: Transistor STN851 terminal 2 is the Collector and Emitter is 3.
    NPN 5 amps 120 volt.
Have you noticed that the LED is connected between the Collector and the Base. Provides more voltage to the LED.
Not between Emitter and Collector as usual.

NPN transistor's collector should be connected to the positive pole. That is how it works.

I would probably refer to this as a tuned base oscillator. The "BIg coil" provides the base bias and also the feedback signal and inherent between the turns the stray capacitance provides the Capacitor while the 60 turns provide the inductance for resonance. The small coil in the collector drives the "secondary tuned circuit" . I would say that it is a pulse oscillator.
I would say that the pulse fed back to the base is so high that the base breaks down in its Zener region. I wonder. It is not as simple as it looks, Congratulations.

instead of STN841 you can take a germanium transistor , the gemanium BE Diode make a break from 0.2 volt or 0.1 volt upward , but on the other side , if you give a kick with any voltage like 0.035 volt ,it flows at first in the coil , make a indutivity ,after the break down of the magnetfleld it make the start kick voltage for the transistor , then he is oscilate , it s possible that it need more start-help by closing the battery more times

WOW! A silicon bipolar transistor finally beat my 60mv Germanium one. Well done, and very nice find with the transistor. Is that a 35mv start up? Do you know of any other low dope silicon transistors? Or how I would search for them?
As far as I know I have been holding the low voltage bipolar JT record for some time with this Ambient Solar Harvester Starts Ossilating From 60mv. There are also a few depletion mode JFET models that go a bit lower.
I'm happily handing over the low voltage bipolar JT record. Nice work!

I did notice the led position. I do that sometimes too :) Worked it out after I looked at a few reverse JT's with led from emitter to base. Strangely c-b is not always brighter, sometimes it shortens the duration of the pulse, and you are better off using the capacitance of the coil to lengthen the pulse a bit. C-e is great if chasing a little extra voltage though, or if base wind is very long.
Thanks for the search tip :) Brought up a ton of datasheets :D

how can i test resonance ( is there any device to do that ?

    • @skhumbuzocele1330
      @skhumbuzocele1330 9 років тому

new man Resonance is a circuit that involve inductors and capacitors set at proportional to each other, in specific ratios. It is NOT a simple straight forward ratio proportionality. Reactance of capacitances and inductors will need to be determined. If you are using and android phone now , you can download the "Mobile electrician" APP to calculate those proportionality ratios of L and C under basic in that app. However, to setup resonating inductors and capacitance you will need and OSCILLOSCOPE and a FUNCTION GENERATOR unfortunate......Heeeeeeeeeee.....and those instrument are quite expensive my friend ......Heeeeeeee........and Most electricians will NOT allow an amateur to lay their hand on those device, hence if something can go wrong paying for the damage can be a problem.....Portable LCR METER are NOT very accurate for resonant. I am on your path friend....that is why I am also planning to by set very soon. However if you purchase those device on your own some companies in some countries will alert government bureaucrats to keep an eye on you in case you are one of the "free energy" guru like me. So be aware and careful on your projects.....Cheers!

@@dax4_3dom78 I still have my original joulethief somewhere that I built if I remember it was useful at very narrow voltage, thing is if you want to use a super cap with a crank generator, there needs to be a variable resistor, honestly preferably some type of smart resistor circuit that would always allow the same amount of current through (what I assume you’re talking about), because a super cap will dump everything at once and most LED have enough resistance in themselves to handle the raw voltage, but for long term and if you don’t want to destroy it and you want it to run for a long time, resistance I these needs to always be controlled, another question is how many windings, how thick the wire etc. I personally noticed that adding a magnet to the coil made my light considerably brighter.
