Saw the thumbnail and my heart skipped a step and I clicked so quickly! I had recognized Brando's work immediately! I admire their gorgeous pieces on the daily and have been following for some time! It would be a dream to be tattood by them.~ And by you as well! Such great work both of you! :) i cant wait to see what more you put out there!
I'm so glad you covered this topic in a video! It's hard to find much information on the process of getting tattooed internationally. I have plans for a pretty big piece by a Polish artist (I'm in the USA) so this video is super helpful in helping me plan ahead! I'm already working on learning small bits of Polish just so I can hopefully make a little small talk, even though the artist does speak a fair amount of English. I think the language barrier has been my #1 concern in the whole process, so it's what I'm addressing the most while I continue to save up for the trip!
Yor're such a sweet person, Holly... I just discovered your work recently and I really admire it. And when I saw the thumbnail I was like "no waaaay, Brando Chiesa" :D I'm dreaming of getting tattoo from him, really love his unique style which really fits your tattoos. The roses on your neck are just perfect! And what about that little pink heart on your wrist? About a month ago, I was doing some flash in neon style and I made the exact heart :D I know it's pretty common symbol, but not in a glowy way O:)
I'm travelling to another country to get tattooed by you next month and now I'm looking forward even more! ^^ thanks for the tips! that dermalize looks really handy :o
A question I had about getting tattooed abroad: how did you find flying back home? Like did your hand swell because of the pressure difference, was there anything you did to protect it while flying, or was it absolutely normal with nothing unusual at all? Thank you!!
I was actually really scared about it, but it didn't happen! I was super super careful with it and had my husband to help with carrying bags etc, plus it was a short flight less than 3 hours. I'd say the first hand was worse because the first couple of days healing it was in a hot country and it swelled really big! I came home the morning after the second hand, so it didnt swell as much
Ms.Holly you are Smokin Hott!! Your husband is a very lucky chap the work on your hands looks amazing. Just recently subscribed and I dig your vids very informative and entertaining Big fan congrats on your new studio. Rock on and keep up the great work!!
Love the podcast Criminal- it's such a great one. I haven't traveled outside the US since I went vegan. Learning milk, eggs and gelatin in the native tongue is a great tip! Thanks!!
That’s fantastic! I can not wait to get more tattoos. Places I’d love to visit are, England, France, Sweden, Germany, Ireland etc. Lots really. I’m in America, I only speak English. I know only a small bit of Spanish BUT I am currently learning French! I found an app to help me learn and I have been trying really hard. I want to become fluent in the language. I’d also love to learn more languages too; I’m also trying to teach my kids as well.
oh wow, you have those hands, amazing! thanks for the post, I'm booked in November with Brando to have my first tattoo. Any more tips you can provide regarding healing while in another country? I am not sure if Blue Tony Toy (the shop) will have / sell healing creams etc.. thanks again!
Brilliant well done. Wicked tattoos by the way. Way better planned then the once I got abroad - They were more spontaneous, like "this seems like a good idea". Luckily they were.
I’ve thought about going to Italy to get tattooed by Brando, I’ve admired his work for ages, they are absolutely stunning pieces of artwork, but I live in North Carolina, USA. And I’ve never gotten a tattoo, but would love one of his to be my first.
You are my spirit person 😳 everything you say is like a tick on my personality list. I’m saving up to someday come to England to get a sleeve from you. You are just such an amazing artist. And your new tattoos are phenomenal!
Hi Holly, I really love your videos. I just got my first tattoo (aged 30... I know I'm so old!) and am loving it. I spent ages choosing a good artist and followed their advice but have still been feeling anxious over the healing process. Could you perhaps do a video on the process as a whole and normal v unexpected changes in a tattoo over days and weeks. For example mine is a black line tattoo but it looks blue after 5 days healing ( I've heard that can be normal?) and scabbing and peeling making it look like a 'bad' tattoo before it's healed. Also at what time during healing do you look at a tattoo and go... 'damn yes that's blowout...?' Thanks for your wisdom! You have the most awesome glasses! Xxx
Thank you so much for this video! I definately plan to travel from the Netherlands to get a tattoo from you at some point. Especially since I found out you love The Legend of Zelda too, I figured you'd be the perfect person to design my Zora Sapphire underbust tattoo!
Aw, your hands look amazing! I love Brando's work so much. I have a couple of questions - if you were doing it again, would you get both done in quick succession, or one at a time and let one heal up completely before doing the other? I have somebody in mind for my hands but I'm not sure whether to do it over a week, or to leave a month or twos gap in-between. The other question is how long were each of your sessions and were there any comparable areas on your body? I imagine it takes longer because the hands tend to swell and that must be annoying to work with for an artist? Anyway, I'm totally excited about getting mine done now! I really like dermalize for some things... It was particularly good when I had a bit on the lower part of my back-piece done, right where my jeans would be. It definitely helped protect it! I think for many areas it's just not worth using, it can be troublesome to apply, to take off, it looks kind of gross as well when it's seeped a bit. I tend to only use it for the first 24 hours before switching to my normal aftercare. Something I have noticed from using it is it does seem to help with pain and discomfort in the immediate time after getting the tattoo done? I wonder if it's from the gentle even pressure it applies to the tattooed skin and it being protected from the elements?
I know it's a bit off topic but could you do a tutorial on how to do your dreads in a headscarf cause I really need to find a good way to have them my dreads up before summer! xx
Hello, I'm a new subscriber and so glad I found your content, really love it! I have a questions!!! I've been doing a lot of research about getting my first tattoo, but I also plan on this being my only tattoo. It has a lot of personal meaning to me and it's really the only one I'll ever want - I think. HOWEVER a lot of people online who give advice about this kind of thing (especially Katrin Berndt who I love) have said that if there's a tattoo that's REALLY important to you, maybe get a smaller less personally important one to test out the waters and feel out your personal preferences. This has made me really anxious - how should I make sure this tattoo is as close to perfect as possible without "testing the waters" like this?
Hi there! I just stumbled upon your videos and I am hooked. They are so informative. I have a question about scheduling. Maybe you've already covered it in a video that I haven't seen yet. How far in advance should you schedule to get a tattoo abroad? How far in advance is too far?
With the language barrier, did you have any trouble communicating to Brando what kind of tattoo you wanted? Did you find it difficult to get around the city? Im going to France (from the United States) to get tattooed and I am TERRIFIED of being somewhere so foreign to me.
Did you design the tattoos yourself or did brando do it? Because omg 😍 and I have a video request :) I want your opinion on people who draw, drawing their own tattoos instead of letting the tattoo artist design if that makes sense lol
This was really useful. I'm really considering getting something done by Brando in the future so this was extra useful. JW as you mentioned he wasn't confident in his English how easy was it for you to communicate your idea of what you wanted to him in the first place?
We did it all over DM/email, his english is great! I meant more that if he was concentrating on tattooing then it would be hard for him to speak in English at the same time. I knew i would love whatever he came up with so i wasn't fussy with the design.
Holly Astral ahh I see 😊 that's awesome then. My idea is fairly simple too and like yourself I'm not fussy, seen his work all over and I love the style he does so I know I'd be happy regardless of what I got really. Now to just save up the money!
Have you got any tips for getting a rib tattoo? I’m going to get one later in the summer and sure I’m a little concerned about the pain but I have quite a high pain tolerance and I’m good at keeping still even when I’m in pain, but I’m mostly concerned about breathing. What’s a good way to go about breathing without moving too much?
Hi Holly, I saw your UA-cam video and was hoping you could give me some advice. I got my first and only tattoo after the tragic death of my mother so unfortunately it was a grief tattoo and I ended up tattooing my whole back. A year later, I waited several months for an appointment with an artist that could help me turn the design into something I was more comfortable with. Unfortunately, I let my sweet and well intentioned husband talk me into a shape that he preferred and that I'm not 100% satisfied with. The artist did a great job with the design, but because he didn't extend it down far enough, it just looks unfinished. The earliest next appointment that I could get with the artist is 4 months out, and my husband and I are scheduled to have a very expensive procedure next month that I can't delay that will hopefully help me get pregnant. If I wait to finish the tattoo, I will probably end up waiting close to two years because if the procedure works and I get pregnant, I'll have to have a C-section. I've tried emailing my tattoo artist and calling the shop to explain the situation and see if I can get in earlier but the artist hasn't returned my email and the shop said there is nothing they can do. My question is, at this point, and given my situation would it be inappropriate and offensive to the artist (should I return in the future), if I ask an artist at another shop to finish the tattoo (and is it possible for an artist to mimic another artist's style so that there is congruity)? I really don't want to have to wait two years to get something that I finally feel comfortable with, especially considering that I got the tattoo during an impulsive moment of intense grief and it covers my entire back. Thank you so much in advance for any advice that you can give me.
hey ! i like his tatoos too but i heard once its healed its became very gross..... so id love to see the healing process n your tatoo in 6 month with no touch up if its possible
id love to go to other artists in other countries, but i feel kind of put off by a bad local experience. i got tattooed by an artist i had to travel, but only from one side of the uk to another. i went for their style in particular and i have to say its kinda put me off going to other tattooists other than my current one. the experience wasn't great. i dont think the tattooist wanted to tattoo me that day and iv issues with the tattoo. is that blue eyes white dragon and Artemus inspired and chibiusa sailor moon tatttoo? when i saw those on insta i was like cool two tattooists i watch and like joining together to make cool ass art.
Hey Holly Astral :), I want to made a appointment at Brando Chiesa :). He I awesome like you. Want to ask how happy you are with your hand tattoos made by him after it is healed :)? Is it real that special? Greetz from Germany
Bouncing off from this question, how should you go about booking a tattoo by somebody who might not speak the same language as you? I don't want to feel like, as you said, an ignorant, entitled English speaking person if I ever have the chance to be tattooed by a great foreign artist.
My shop, Gravity, is a vegan shop so everything is vegan. Almost all tattoo inks are vegan anyway i wasn't worried and didn't check specifically for this piece - I would rather the artist had the freedom to create with whatever tools he needs to do a beautiful job.

I'm so glad you covered this topic. I'm in the USA, but if I get to visit England (again), I'd love to get tatto'ed by you.
What good timing for this vid! I'm traveling to the UK in a week and getting tattooed by you while I'm there

Is that a Blue Eyes White Dragon?!?!? :D Too cool! It looks gorgeous
Brando is an absolutely amazing artist! So very talented and probably hard-working and dedicated. Your pieces looks stunning. So jealous!

I really admire your skill, passion and happiness! For some reason you create a want or maybe just a feeling of aspiration. Thanks for the tips.

Hi Holly, I really love your videos. I just got my first tattoo (aged 30... I know I'm so old!) and am loving it. 27-28 degrees Celsius = 78-80 degrees Fahrenheit.
thanks!
I plan on booking an appointment with you in the future. I'm from America so this helps a lot! Thanks holly love you lots
Hope to see you soon :)
1) Blue eye's White Dragon - Yugioh

Hi what sized ear stretchers are u? Loved this video ! x
Super kool...That's @brandocheisa .... Definitely one of my favorite tattoo artist....
Lovely video!! :D
Thank you so much for this video! I definately plan to travel from the Netherlands to get a tattoo from you at some point. Especially since I found out you love The Legend of Zelda too, I figured you'd be the perfect person to design my Zora Sapphire underbust tattoo!
I would LOVE THAT
YAY! That makes me so happy!
I wonder if it's from the gentle even pressure it applies to the tattooed skin and it being protected from the elements?
ps - my peony-crystals from TTP has healed peeeerfectly! Definitely want some kind of mushroomy space cat from you to continue it on next year
Hi Holly! Love your videos, I was wondering if you could make a video about gaining/ losing weight and what that does to tattoos?
Super interesting vlog thanks for the tips
Hi there! I just stumbled upon your videos and I am hooked. They are so informative.

Did you design the tattoos yourself or did brando do it? Because omg 😍 and I have a video request :) I want your opinion on people who draw, drawing their own tattoos instead of letting the tattoo artist design if that makes sense lol
Do you still have the guinea pigs?
I had a tattoo in Prague and loved that experience :)
ahhh Prague is so beautiful! I'd love to go back
Holly Astral it's a place I loved and can highly recommend the guys at Unholy Tattoo :)
I swear to god I had a stroke when I saw your snap story and then his snap story right after one another. It was like tattoo-ception 😂
ha ha!
is that a Blue Eyes Whit Dragon on your hand? If so it looks amazing
It is!
How much does it cost?
This was really useful. I'm really considering getting something done by Brando in the future so this was extra useful.
JW as you mentioned he wasn't confident in his English how easy was it for you to communicate your idea of what you wanted to him in the first place?
We did it all over DM/email, his english is great! I meant more that if he was concentrating on tattooing then it would be hard for him to speak in English at the same time. I knew i would love whatever he came up with so i wasn't fussy with the design.

Would wearing long gloves to protect your tattoo from the sun irritate your skin?
Yeah, no way could you wear gloves. Would make them sweaty and irritated. You’d die lol
I love you and your style so much.
Would love that
❤️
the tattoos look amazing!!
by the way, "ch" in italian is pronounced as "k" ;)
Grazie! i didn't know!! I am trying to improve my itallian at the moment because myself and my husband want to go back already :)

Blue eyes white dragon? nice.
Hey Holly Astral :), I want to made a appointment at Brando Chiesa :). He I awesome like you.
Want to ask how happy you are with your hand tattoos made by him after it is healed :)? Is it real that special?
Greetz from Germany
For people who love getting tattoos how will you cope when there’s no more space
Look at 3M Tagaderm, what you are describing sounds like Tagaderm repackaged.
Bouncing off from this question, how should you go about booking a tattoo by somebody who might not speak the same language as you? I don't want to feel like, as you said, an ignorant, entitled English speaking person if I ever have the chance to be tattooed by a great foreign artist.
