1. Get a good nights sleep 2. Don’t drink alcohol beforehand 3. Have a shower 4. Don’t moisturise 5. Wear suitable clothing 6. Don’t use numbing cream 7. Take some sugary snacks 8. Bring cash
I love your work and am a big fan, and am in the early stages of creating portfolio and checking out any bbp and sterilization courses. For sterile environments, aren't dogs and cats not allowed in shops? Yours seems like a sweetie. :) I have seen also many older dusty shops(Yours is gorgeous, and I know you research and deliver well)... can you do a video about environmental factors, please?
Finally one of these advice videos that isn’t condescending or rude, thank you for explaining things in a friendly way your awesome and your smile is infectious ✌️❤️
Love these tips. Aside from bringing snacks for throughout the session I also recommend having a meal a few hours to an hour before your actual appointment, and preferably something that levels your blood sugar so you don't experience a drop mid-tattoo and possibly pass out. Its always worrisome when someone says they haven't eaten and then gets light-headed mid-tattoo. I also recommend bringing some headphones and listening to a podcast or music throughout the session, especially for one that's a bit long. Some artists are very talkative, and some tend to go quiet when they start tattooing. Don't take offense to it- the quietness is usually due to them concentrating on the task of tattooing, and not that they just don't want to talk to you. Bringing some headphones and music will help pass the time and keep the awkward silence to a minimum. You'll be thankful to have something distract you from the pain, and your artist will feel less pressured to ask you "how you doing there?" fifty times just to break the silence, lol.
Start with 1 tattoo. Find the background you'll want and slowly fill it in than once you have no more space for large pieces you get the empty space filled.
i did my first sleeve all planned out with knwoing wat i want and did it in 3, 8hours sittings. i would say if you know wat you want get it in 1 go so it looks connectected and fluent (if i spelled that right)
if you know that you want a full sleeve. best thing to do is research all the artists in your area to find someone you think will connect with what you want. then leave it up to the artist that you choose.
3 things I would like to add to this as, 1. Prep for the tattoo. I always like to shave the area that is getting tattooed before going. I find most artists appreciate that. 2. If you have a personal relationship with your artist, send a text to see if the artist wants a smoothie or something for them. Sometimes they can't leave the shop for a while so it's a nice gesture. 3. Don't give the amount that they say the tattoo costs, plan for giving a tip for every session (or one big one for multiple sessions). I never knew just how normal tipping was until I had a couple tattoos. I probably came off rude or something. So tip your artists! They are taking care of you so return the favor.
xSLWRTHNUx nah man some countries actually find tips offensive. I live in the US so tipping is the norm but I know a lot of countries such as Japan actually don't appreciate when you tip
James Danowski so..... I guess your ona shit hourly wage as well maybe just a bit more than the people YOU TIP! Have you ever been a contractor? I’m guessing NOT!!!!. Do you understand and I mean understand that the artist you are paying your incredible $100 per hour don’t have any overhead expenses? Like paying a percentage to the studio they work at. Like paying taxes. Like paying for the gloves they use to wipe the shit fucktard blood off your body to give you a clean piece of art. Like the ink that gives you your piece of art. These ppl may only walk away with with less than 25% of your precious $100 per hour, so get off the meth or whatever you are on and maybe just maybe realise that that may not be above the ppl you think are on shit wages dickhead
James Danowski the reason it's "proper" to tip is due to the artist usually has to pay a fee of sorts to tattoo in the shop (unless they own it). So for every day they are booked, they might be giving their commission of work upwards to 40% to their fellow shop worker. You might be seeing the end total, but they're making less than you think. Just food for thought.
You get cold because your body goes through a form of shock because you're stabbing your skin with tiny needles so it's trauma so your body reacts accordingly. So yeah, blankets and a position of comfort and afterwards lots of water and some sleep. :)
I can't get over the color theory in the video you have these big bright colors that are clashing in harmony, but are toned down. Along with those subtle Gray's, this color scheme is amazing
I've never even considered the no moisturising before, but it makes so much sense! My tip would be to bring a distraction. I download a show, film or podcast beforehand and then just plug myself in.
Great video. I have a quick question. I am in the process of losing weight right now (have lost 30 pounds since December!!!!). I would say I have another 30 pounds that I am looking to lose to get to my goal weight. My question is should I hold off on the tattoo until I get to my goal weight? It is going to be a rose on my thigh, slightly above my knee. I am just worried that my tattoo will get deformed or look weird or something as I continue to drop the pounds. Thanks, Brad.
This sounds so great! Everything vegan, comfortable... and you seem like such a nice person! I would love to get a tattoo from you ❤ but I live in Germany ... but if there's any chance to come to England in the future I'll definitely consider booking in with you 😍
Hello! I actually used numbing cream on my most recent tattoo on my collarbones done last Saturday. The tattooist recommended it, it really did make a huge difference from when I had my chest tattooed without numbing cream. The whole two hours was excruciatingly painful, I had to take several breaks in between. My collarbones being tattooed was an absolute breeze. With minimal pain. But like you said everyone's skin is different.
Just got my 4th tattoo n used dr.numb 5% . Didn't let it sit long enough but still definitely reduced pain during the pcs. And will definitely try it again... I've heard alot of artist says these types of comments so was hesitant. But glad I found one. Trick is to wrap the spot with cling wrap for 1 1/2 - 2 hrs and make sure its Air tight.
Thanks Holly! I start my left arm sleeve tomorrow and I am super excited. If I ever get a chance to fly across the pond I'm going to get some ink from you!
I love your glasses 👓 and your neck roses 🌹, adore the colors! 😍☺️😄 A the good advices, of course, very helpful even though I already knew most of them.
I heard There's this stuff called hush here in the U.S. that works well. The trick is that you have to put it on for at least 4 hours and put seran wrap over it. Then let it air dry for a few hours before the tattoo. It's legal in Oklahoma i think but not advised in texas for that purpose although still legal to purchase
Ebanel Numb520 is a really great numbing cream! I use it for my tattoos and it doesn't effect the skin negatively. It lasts for a WHILE- about 2-3 hours- and the it is just amazing.
i used a numbing cream after talking to my tattooist. we used it on a bigger totally black part of my back (i have my whole back tattooed with a motive) we both found it VERY good working (even if it feels a little "untrue" 😉). the part looks as good as the rest of the tattoo. 😀 i used emla creme 5%
I looooove your neck tattoos! They're gorgeous! I'm getting my first tattoo at the beginning of August and I'm sure my tattoo artist will thank you for making this video! LOL!
One you missed that's not essential, but does make things easier, is: Shave the area you're getting tattooed before you get there. I always do this, but mostly because I hate the dry razor technique my artists uses! lol.
its weird but I'm not scared of the pain at all... I'm usually scared of needles but I'm not scared of tattoos...getting my first tomorrow...super excited.. thanks for the tips.. I'm following all of them :)
Dr. Numb really helped me and my tattoo turned out awesome, the artist even said it was really smooth going (4 hours of 8 required, the other 4 were SO MUCH MORE PAINFUL!!!) Obviously I'd asked him if I could use the cream beforehand though =)
I used both and Hush was MUCH better. It took the pain level down across whole tattoo - I felt it but only about 30% and healed brilliantly. Dr Numb totally numbed some areas but not others, and healing was not right, really weird, had many tattoos but none as weird as that. Would not use again.
Have you tried Dr Numb? We use it at our shop for those getting a really large tattoo or in a very painful area. We've had no adverse effects and it's been used on people of all ages, skin tones and skin textures.
I'd like to offer one tip of my own; don't forget to breathe! I've seen some people in their excitement and anxiety forget to breathe normally and end up fainting.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS :DD I'm getting my first tattoo on Saturday (but not at ur tattoo salon sorry ;^; ) and I'm really nervous but really excited. This helps a lot :)))
Also as for the food part, it’s good to have dining like chocolate or biscuits or something else that is a low GI food to snack on as it will keep your blood sugars at a stable number and you won’t crash as easily however if they do crash and you start to get shaky and weak you would need some high GI foods to get them up quick and then low GI again to maintain it, low GI foods like chocolate don’t work to bring your blood sugars up fast enough to work (Never had tattoos but I deal with hypoglycaemia a lot and I know from bad past experiences that chocolate does not work, and stuff like jelly beans, soft drinks or juice work best)
@Gravity Tattoo What would a tattoo from your hand to your shoulder Cost about? i'm trying to start my life fresh from self harming scares I don't know much about how to find expert artist is good with hiding scares i'm male age 27 few years now I never dared wear only t-shirt I had weak moment in my life i'm trying to forget but even before that I always wanted tattoo but now I feel there is stronger reason to get one Any help finding the right place for me would be appricated
Great video! One quick thing I'd like to add though is that chocolate also thins your blood. So, perhaps you can keep that in mind too. If I come across some other things I'll just add it in later.
I always try to bring orange juice or sunny d because it's got a little sugar in it so it's better than water when the tattoo lasts a while, also it's better for you than pop or whatever. Also personally, thicker citrusy drinks feel beautiful on my throat when I'm sick or not feeling good.
I always shower and use deodorant before an appointment, however I’m in the process of doing my sleeve and the last part is going to be my armpit, can I still wear deodorant when I get my armpit done? Will this affect the tattoo at all? Sorry if it’s a silly question x
I don't want to sound like an idiot, but what about energy drinks? I had my thigh tattooed but I bled a lot at one of my sessions, like heavily. I don't drink at all, but I do drink energy drinks and I'm not sure how well I slept given I was so excited about it. Does that have any effect? just curious. Maybe my body just had an off day.
What do you mean with the alcohol? like getting drunk? cause i always drink 1 or 2 beers before a tattoo and i've never really bled at all?? just curious
Hi there!! I has question.. I am sure it won't change too much from country to country (as I am in Canada) but how much would you recommend tipping your tattoo artist? I am always worried I am not giving enough. thanks!!!
9. Shave the area you are getting your tattoo on by yourself. If you don't, the artist will just go at your skin dry with a razor, this is a problem because it causes mild to extreme irritation if you have sensitive skin, so shaving at home with soap or shaving cream will make the overall experience much more comfortable.
I’m getting a tattoo in a week, said it’s gonna take 7 hours the most, what do you think would be best to do? Stay quiet and listen to music on AirPods or talk
I know I'm only a teen, but I already made a design for my first tattoo later on in life. Would it be a good idea to just bring In the design and say "can I get this tattoo"?
Are credit card machines that hard to come by in the UK? I once paid cash to my artist here in the states and she told me to please use a card in the future since it makes splitting the house's take harder if you use cash. Also what are the laws there in the UK that you can have a dog in the studio? Big no-no here.
How does ink hold in scar tissue? I have a patch of skin which is covered in scars, and I do want it tattooed, but just want to know how that would turn out?
I'm getting my first half sleeve tattoo in a month and I'm like hella nervous cuz I hate needles do you have any tips I guess I don't know I guess staying still or just in general
just a question. i take good care of my hygiene, but because of anxiety i sweat a lot.literally treied everything would that be a problem at an appointment?
These are great I have a lot of tattoo artists that complain to me about other customers. Usually it's about shitty attitudes... but I'm a homie to most of them.
Whats the best way to respectfully compare that what you and your tattoo artists have in mind? I find that a lot of times I end up walking a tightrope of accepting a piece thats not quite what I had in mind and offending or agitating the the artist by requesting to go a different direction
1. Get a good nights sleep
2. Don’t drink alcohol beforehand
3. Have a shower
4. Don’t moisturise
5. Wear suitable clothing
6. Don’t use numbing cream
7. Take some sugary snacks
For safety Ted isn’t allowed in the part of the shop where tattooing takes place. He has his own area where he hangs out.
Gorgeous studio - one day I need a tattoo from you :)
9.Listen to death metal.
Go team vegan 💚💚💚
Finally one of these advice videos that isn’t condescending or rude, thank you for explaining things in a friendly way your awesome and your smile is infectious ✌️❤️
Thank you! 💖
I told my artist I watched this video, he didn't thank me at all. He told me i was dumb.
iloveyouamberappel same but maybe cuz me and my artist are close friends so he doesn’t really care how I come in lol
OOF
😂😂
Ha
Sounds like a douche
Your rose neck tattos are breathtaking!!!!!!❤❤❤❤ I love rainbow roses...they are gorgeous!!!!!
Love these tips. Aside from bringing snacks for throughout the session I also recommend having a meal a few hours to an hour before your actual appointment, and preferably something that levels your blood sugar so you don't experience a drop mid-tattoo and possibly pass out. I would love a video on how best to approach starting a sleeve, whether here or on your personal channel :)
Start with 1 tattoo. Find the background you'll want and slowly fill it in than once you have no more space for large pieces you get the empty space filled.
i did my first sleeve all planned out with knwoing wat i want and did it in 3, 8hours sittings.

Girl get an infinity symbol on her wrist... ‘start of my sleeve’

xSLWRTHNUx tipping is not a thing in every country ;) I advise to look it up first for your specific country
gitta wynant that may be true but I doubt anyone would have an issue receiving a tip regardless of what country they are in hahaha
xSLWRTHNUx nah man some countries actually find tips offensive. I live in the US so tipping is the norm but I know a lot of countries such as Japan actually don't appreciate when you tip

Man, I don't usually comment of video's but i had to say, your roses on your neck look AMAZING. seriously, props to that artist.
thank you! They're by Freddie Albrighton
Great video. I have a quick question. I am in the process of losing weight right now (have lost 30 pounds since December!!!!). Dog is on the job! Good tips, always nice to hear directly from the artist.

Same
On the other hand, you have Buena Vista Tattoo Club in Wurzburg.
Too bad the ink has animal fats

Really great Video!!
Had anyone noticed the drum n bass sound in the back its great😍😍
I love your glasses 👓 and your neck roses 🌹, adore the colors!

This studio looks amazing really pretty and comfortable
Thank you 💖💖
Her neck tattoos are beautiful
When you said that you’re a vegan tattoo shop, I immediately understood that if I’m if the UK, I’ll definitely come to you!)
Would you recommend like bringing something to squeeze? Like a stress ball? I'm getting my first tattoo on Wednesday...
Ebanel Numb520 is a really great numbing cream! I use it for my tattoos and it doesn't effect the skin negatively. It lasts for a WHILE- about 2-3 hours- and the it is just amazing.
i loved the pastel roses aaaaaaa
Your dog is adorable!

Damn! Beautiful neck art!
You’re so cute 😫 thank you for this video tho. The bring extra layers is a great idea
I looooove your neck tattoos! They're gorgeous!

Vegan tattoo shop?! That is so cool
The ink is not vegan lol, still the animals are murdered =/
@@Sidneybeach875 you can get vegan ink
Dr. Numb really helped me and my tattoo turned out awesome, the artist even said it was really smooth going (4 hours of 8 required, the other 4 were SO MUCH MORE PAINFUL!!!) Obviously I'd asked him if I could use the cream beforehand though =)

Nah. You didn’t earn it if you used numbing cream. It’s bullshit
Thanx for the advice, I'm ready for another now, but UK a bit too far at the moment. Love from Melbourne Australia kx
What a lovely shop!
Thank you for the tips. I am saving up money for my first tattoo and this video was really helpful.
Have you tried Dr Numb? We use it at our shop for those getting a really large tattoo or in a very painful area. We've had no adverse effects and it's been used on people of all ages, skin tones and skin textures.
Even though I live in the USA , this helped me for my first tattoo which is hopefully soon!
Beautiful tattoo,i would like to get my first tattoo here ,but it depends where this is located😕
I'd like to offer one tip of my own; don't forget to breathe! I've seen some people in their excitement and anxiety forget to breathe normally and end up fainting.
Vasocain works incredibly amazing and hasnt made any skin weird yet
Teds face at the start of this was the most guilty expression ever :’) pet therapy while you’re getting tattooed is definitely an awesome idea.
Unfortunately he’s not in the area where the tattooing takes place. But he’s available for cuddles afterwards :)
aaand there's the answer I was looking for! Thank you.
I've never liked dred locks.... Until now 😍😍😍😍
I am currently having a hole sleeve and i have a full english breakfast before i have my tattoo
Thanks for all of the advice
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS :DD
I'm getting my first tattoo on Saturday (but not at ur tattoo salon sorry ;^; ) and I'm really nervous but really excited. This helps a lot :)))
Also as for the food part, it’s good to have dining like chocolate or biscuits or something else that is a low GI food to snack on as it will keep your blood sugars at a stable number and you won’t crash as easily however if they do crash and you start to get shaky and weak you would need some high GI foods to get them up quick and then low GI again to maintain it, low GI foods like chocolate don’t work to bring your blood sugars up fast enough to work
(Never had tattoos but I deal with hypoglycaemia a lot and I know from bad past experiences that chocolate does not work, and stuff like jelly beans, soft drinks or juice work best)
I always eat a bunch beforehand and bring snacks like trail mix and a ton of water. It’s surprising how many people don’t do these things 🤦♀️
That's a really smart idea !!
This tattoo shop looks really nice! Where is it located?
Your studio looks so comfy and cute I would love to get tattoed there! Sadly I´m 16 years old and live in Germany..
@Gravity Tattoo
What would a tattoo from your hand to your shoulder Cost about? i'm trying to start my life fresh from self harming scares I don't know much about how to find expert artist is good with hiding scares i'm male age 27 few years now I never dared wear only t-shirt I had weak moment in my life i'm trying to forget but even before that I always wanted tattoo but now I feel there is stronger reason to get one Any help finding the right place for me would be appricated
Great video! One quick thing I'd like to add though is that chocolate also thins your blood. So, perhaps you can keep that in mind too. If I come across some other things I'll just add it in later.
If it does it’s not enough to make a difference when tattooing so I wouldn’t worry about it
Ohhhh the puppy!!😍😍 No numbing cream?!?!? Oh that just killed a dream. Sheesh.
Very relieved to watch this and see that I do all the right things haha!
The painting in the back looks soo coool (The one with multiple eyes)
I always try to bring orange juice or sunny d because it's got a little sugar in it so it's better than water when the tattoo lasts a while, also it's better for you than pop or whatever. Also personally, thicker citrusy drinks feel beautiful on my throat when I'm sick or not feeling good.
Can you take Advil or a different pain med before starting the tattoo? I’ve heard different things about this.
What clothing would be suitable for a side ribecage tattoo? Im having trouble finding something that will let the artist easily get to the area.
I always shower and use deodorant before an appointment, however I’m in the process of doing my sleeve and the last part is going to be my armpit, can I still wear deodorant when I get my armpit done? Will this affect the tattoo at all? Sorry if it’s a silly question x
Don’t wear deodorant on tattoo day as it’ll stop the stencil/sharpie from working so well.
Amazing she can read the signs in the parlour !
I just had my first tattoo 3 days ago and watching this video, most of the tips are common knowledge expect 4 for me i didn't knew this haha
I am always worried I am not giving enough. thanks!!!
Maggie A Novel about 30%!
If your tattoo is over 400$ I wouldn’t tip at all
9. Shave the area you are getting your tattoo on by yourself. If you don't, the artist will just go at your skin dry with a razor, this is a problem because it causes mild to extreme irritation if you have sensitive skin, so shaving at home with soap or shaving cream will make the overall experience much more comfortable.
I'm proud to say my first tattoo went probably pretty well for my artist.
Very helpful video! Cute dog too! Is he a Goldendoodle?
I’m getting a tattoo in a week, said it’s gonna take 7 hours the most, what do you think would be best to do? Stay quiet and listen to music on AirPods or talk
Of I was in the UK I would love to get some work done in your shop. Ypu sold me at vegan tattoo.
your neck roses are so pretty!
My artist used a hemp cream I’m pretty sure which works pretty well.
I know I'm only a teen, but I already made a design for my first tattoo later on in life. Would it be a good idea to just bring In the design and say "can I get this tattoo"?
These are awesome bits of advice ;0 also, if you could tell me where you found those glasses, that’d be pretty dope. 💛
They’re from firmoo.com
Love your neck roses! They look like Lianne Moule’s work!
Where are your glasses from?
Imari Singh they’re from firmoo.com!

Are credit card machines that hard to come by in the UK? I once paid cash to my artist here in the states and she told me to please use a card in the future since it makes splitting the house's take harder if you use cash.
Also what are the laws there in the UK that you can have a dog in the studio? Big no-no here.
Ted hangs out in his own area of the shop, and isn’t allowed in the actual tattooing area.
How does ink hold in scar tissue? I have a patch of skin which is covered in scars, and I do want it tattooed, but just want to know how that would turn out?
Vegan shop?? LOVE!! I'd love to find one in the US. Thank you for the tips!

Is the ink vegan? And is it better to exfoliate?

just a question. i take good care of my hygiene, but because of anxiety i sweat a lot.literally treied everything would that be a problem at an appointment?
These are great I have a lot of tattoo artists that complain to me about other customers. Usually it's about shitty attitudes... but I'm a homie to most of them.
I'm not even thinking about getting a tattoo lol, but this if fun to watch!
You make me wanna have a tattoo there, and I'm in the Philippines lol
Where are you based?
How long after getting the tattoo can I shave in that area?
Whats the best way to respectfully compare that what you and your tattoo artists have in mind? I find that a lot of times I end up walking a tightrope of accepting a piece thats not quite what I had in mind and offending or agitating the the artist by requesting to go a different direction
My tattoo artists always love that when I shower beforehand, I also shave the area being tattooed.
My piercings never heal very well. Will my tattoos be any different?
