To me it sounds like a single coil guitar into a mostly clean amp, with a subtle chorus and at times something like a phaser as well. Nothing too extreme, it's mostly about the playing!
Hi Yohan, the strumming pattern is one of the hardest parts of a song like this, so it's no surprise you might struggle with it. The way to look at it is that your right hand is laying down a grid of continous down/up movements in a steady 16th note pattern, this is indicated by: "1 + a +", which is a good way to count 16th notes (try saying "one-e-and-uh-two-e-and-uh-three-etc etc out loud while you strum). The D's and U's below it indicate when one of those strums actually hits the strings to sound a chord. Another idea might be to select the half speed option in the settings wheel on the bottom right and listen to the part where I isolate the strumming pattern while reading along with it on the screen. I hope that helps!
It's not an easy song for beginners, just take it slow, and don't get frustrated if you can't get it perfect yet. Sometimes it's also a good idea to focus on practicing other songs for a while and revisit this one a few months from now, there's a good chance it'll sound a lot better!
I was able to learn the strumming pattern but when you play the chorus sometimes you strum the string while they are blocked by your left hand, so I am supposed to strum and block the strings when ? :( For example at 2:17 you start by doing DudUdudU (upper case for strum chord, lower case for blocking strings) but in the strumming pattern you show after you say DudUduD !
Yes, funky strumming patterns like these are not set in stone, they're merely a starting point. Guitar players are not machines, so there is likely to be quite a bit of variation. Start playing the pattern the way it's written, once you get it up to speed and get comfortable with it, the variation will happen automatically once you loosen up.
Cheers, hope it was useful! I made the backing track (drums + bass) myself, I'm not aware of one being available anywhere, I could upload mine if you'd like?
Nils Bryant oh that's what I had fear of ... cause I don't play drums and bass and any pc program... Oh , can you do it? I will really appreciate it , it will be awesome
Hey there, for most of this video I just plugged straight into my interface and used Logic Pro X's Vox based amp sim set to slight breakup, with a little bit of compression and reverb added. Other than that there is a very subtle phaser on the chords in the bridge part, and a delay for my own intro/outro parts (not part of the original song). Hope that helps!
I've been searching everywhere, but what is the actual last chord paramore hits or note cuz it ends so weird and off from the sound of the song I always wanted to know what that was since I first heard it!!!
Hi Roberto, not exactly sure what you mean, but the band itself just ends on that last chord of the chorus (Ab), then Haley shouts "And I gotta get to rock bottom" and after that there's just a drum sample/hit. Hope that helps, cheers!
@@1bbjjhhjj if you look at them at the end of this version it looks a little like its the open strings but missing out the lower couple ua-cam.com/video/_Y4VE8CJhlg/v-deo.html
This is the best format for a song lesson I've seen on UA-cam. Really clear and complete, good sound and video, and nice commentary on top. Great job.
Thanks man, I really tried to be as simple and to the point as possible without losing out on any important bits. Cheers!
I freaking love this song.
Extremely clear and a fantastic style for a lesson - so easy to follow timing and song parts - thanks so much
Good explanation of the song.
I don't know how I haven't found your channel before! This made it so easy to learn, thank you!
Amazingly clear lesson Nils!
Man you gave the people what they needed
I love this song!!! Thank you for making this lesson!
we need more tutorial like this.
Great video, you left everything well detailed. Thanks, it helped a lot.
Man that strum pattern was so hard for me to get down. But finally after a week I’m comfortable with it at 60bpm ... now time to double it up
Great lesson! :)
thanks, it's perfect.

Sweet, thanks dude! I might add a little bit of reverb too
Awesome video, EQ settings?
the ab chord stab sounds cool at the end of the intro riff but to my ears its just Fm Cm Fm then Cm again.. i could be wrong tho
Prachtig!
I like you're guitar is EPICO
Funky!
Someone to explain the strumming pattern ? I don't understand when I should block the notes and when I should wait, and when I should strum ?

Thanks , that's awesome . Do you know where can I found the base track without guitar?

Nils Bryant kind of that last chord even live just sounds so weird and different I always wonder what it was lol
Cuz Ik there's an actual guitar hitting on the sample at the last second

@4:46 oshhhtttt
