Try to check Brandon Acker, the Bob Ross of guitar
There are no incorrect notes, just cromatisms

Lol! Yeah, stick to what you are good at!
The real mystery and lesson to learn is to be able to keep the time and beat while casually talking and discussing what you're going to play next... such a pro teacher!
Yea because people don't sing and play guitar 😂
@@Monkeypole that's hard also, but he have no ready text, just talking whatever he want not in beat of song
I love this dude, his calm and silky voice lets me know everything is going to be ok...

@@Erny_Module HHHAAAHAHAHA YES !!!

Could this guy be the bob Ross of guitar?.....
This is one of those things that make you go "I can totally play that!" then grab your guitar and realize you can't play ANY of that.
but you did grab guitar, so it's not complete fail :)
just watch his hand movement and you'll be fine
I remember how these funk rhythms confused me so much. Why? The muted ghost notes. IMO the advice "just add ghost notes in between" is really what makes it way more difficult than it is because when you hear them you tend to ignore them and just concentrate on the melody and that is the real issue. When you play them you absolutely need to be aware where they are and what rhythm they are in - just play them like regular notes. One needs to unlearn to hear just the melody and hear the ghost notes between.
You are so right
@@kkarx as kirk wahmett would say, "the notes in between are fuckin with me"
ME: enjoying the FUNK
MY BRAIN: Wait a minute, he's simultaneously talking and playing!
Gotta be even worse hence he is playing syncopated. May be he is a former banjoplayer. I'm kind of blown away!
Thanks Paul Davids!
Great sense on the beat.
And even more difficult, english is not his main language, he's dutch. Can you speak a foreign language and play guitar maintaining the rhythm? I sometimes can't do one, let alone the two.
Joshua Nnachi I can barely sing and play normal chords at the same time! Let alone, add accent beats, syncopate, add the pinky accents, add single line rhythms, and slide, all while talking a non native language. Amazing
Just like singing?
This is by far the most original approach at teaching music that I've seen. So cool. Everything is explained inn just the right amount of detail in about five minutes: Music Theory, Technique, Songwriting, Improvisation, Dynamics, Rhythm Playing
if you like this you should watch bernard purdie explain the legendary purdie shuffle
@@jammy3662 yeah, but trying to actually grab that not so easy...
(At least for me)
I agree. Playing along and building a groove - pause if you need to. A really refreshing change from most instructional videos. Brilliant actually.
“Strum up and down like there’s no tomorrow” epic line!
When you realize he played through the whole video without missing a beat
its a video xd
Dude's a legend
Yes!!!
IKR? I think he could read War and Peace aloud, in it's entirety, without missing a beat as he played.
Absolutely nailed it, absolutely awesome. Very, VERY clever. Just awesome.

Easily the best guitar teacher on the internet. I've been playing for 16 years and Paul has taught me more in 2 months than i've learnt in my whole life.
Nice
The ability of this guy to stack up useful content in the least amount of time is unsurpassable...This six minutes are a whole CATHEDRAL of knowledge. Amazing!!!
Can we just appreciate how amazing he is to talk (teach) and play at the same time?
right?? I can't even play wonderwall while having a conversation, I either stop to talk or don't answer at all while staring blankly into the waiting face of the person trying to talk to me
He pauses his left hand most of the time to talk, but sure

Lot of people can play great on guitar. Not all can teach. You are a payer and a teacher. Thank you
Eternally grateful to you for this video as an older person. This is my favorite guitar lesson I've ever had. I now see I would be so much farther along as a guitarist if I had known how to study & had a good teacher when I was young. I had no help, & wasted a lot of time/ energy without answers. I was even feeling sick lately, with stomach stress when I thought of guitar, & wish I had not had so many setbacks, feeling my whole life is passing, etc (& I even studied a bit at my local college, with a teacher who said, "you may go the whole semester & never learn this' rather than caring enough to want to actually help, when worship music was always one of the most significant aspects of my life & I hoped to serve people through music. I've been limited in what I could bring to others). This brought me joy & some relief & a ray of hope.
Funk is the most fun. One day our band was sitting around after practice. I randomly started slapping the guitar, some rob scallon style slap stuff. Then my friend quickly joined in with some groovy chords and rhythms like yours. Our drummer quickly caught on, and did some sexy hi hat action with a consistent kick on the on beats, and our bassist pulled out a nasty slappy bass line. As soon as our keyboardist pulled out a funky bluesy synth solo, we were in the zone.
That must've been amazinggggggg! I gotta do that in our next practice!
My favorite part of music, anyone can do it! Just hop on in lmao
Exactly it's Funk ! Good experience !!
That’s awesome
normally this would sound fake to mevbut knowing how powerful music can be, i know its not
Funky looks easy for some people, but man... this genre is good and nice to hear and actually hard.
Yeah, it's so precise
Muting is everything
The biggest pain is the harmonics sounding when you don’t mute properly, and then have to play specific notes
Incredibly helpful to practice, really works on rhythm and muting
VinsonNS So true. Syncopation is my problem
I’ve never seen anyone approach a lesson like this. You’re actually teaching live methods in real time! And you seamlessly highlight pieces without missing a single beat.
This is wild!
The collars on my shirt grew four inches longer as I watched this video

These are my favorite lessons from your channel. I very much enjoy how you build from simple to complex.
I love the way he also spoke along the beat. Making this lesson video unnecessarily intense, but easy to follow.
Please can you expand that series from blues and funk to other kinds like rock metal punk
Blues is the backbone to these genres. While they don't use everything blues has to offer, their bases are derived from blues, and then expanded into the genre as you know it today.
Jethro195 true, started with the blues and ended up in other genres
Paul has a video on Blues from this series already! From last year I think, check it out it's very good
Nikos Rouskas Punk is mostly power cords, not too much to explain there.

Tapping into your love of playing the guitar is pivitol to your teaching Paul. This has to be one of the finest guitar lessons I've ever seen on UA-cam.
After years of playing acoutic, I have finally switched to electric. In my arsenal I have a 1989 Vester Stage Series, the Fender lawsuit version. A Boss Katana mini amp, a Rowin Flanger and a Plexion distortion pedal.

Watched a LOT of your videos - this is by far my favorite.
Awesome lesson dude, straight and to the point for the intermediate guitarist, live example throughout, short and direct details, well done!!
This type of "how to" video where it feels like it's one take is a format where your musicianship really shines. This one, and the fingerstyle blues one are so great. Thanks!
First time I see this format on youtube. I really enjoyed the fast paced tutorial. It really helps if you are already familiar with the concepts but needs some guidance to glue everything together. For the less adepts, you're plugging your courses like a master. Hats off to you, that content is dope.
What he said
Yeah too bad this stuff is not in the course.
This excites me and it's really cool to see you smiling and having a good time... I think I found the genre I'd like to learn

I've been looking for a tutorial for a long time, but I haven't been able to find any better than this one! I would love to see more videos like this. This was an excellent lesson, great method, keeping the rythme going and gradually increasing the difficulty and intricacies. So much fun to be able to jam along with you whenever I feel like it now.

I love these sort of lessons. Absolute genius.
So beautifully laid out. So much info in such a short time. You are a great teacher. Thanks.
I think that's actually a pretty great exercise to build your funk fundamentals.
It'll be frustrating for beginners to learn to whack the bass note and mute the other strings for 3 months, but it's pretty much the right place to start. And the steps afterwards are also in a pretty good difficulty progression. I'll try it myself !
I'm at the first day of the frustrating part.
