oh and i lived in london for over 20 years so i know it well , thing is as a busy mother you do not have time for the back alleys and the little known places
I was born in London in Jan 1940 I have always loved London. These films are wonderful They are just like walking through these familiar streets again and have brought
This is great video. Me and my dog are in Kenwood every weekend, in fact every spare time we can go there. And I learnt more than I knew. There are still concerts ( perhaps not as many) in Kenwood during summer and Christmas Walk in the winter. Proud member of EH.
I do love your walks and tours. I used to do tours for Americans and mates in "The City". In particular the Roman walls that hardly anyone knows about. It inspired me do some research into my family and found out that my Great Grandmother ran a brothel in Bermondsey for errant sailors and Molly Boys amongst other things and she did four years in Holloway. In the end we got our family tree back to 1569. I also found out that my Granddad was the station keeper at Lewisham and my mother was born on a station platform! I have lived here on and off all my life and my earliest memories are of Holloway Road and the M1/A1! Also there is something to see and find every day here....
As an American it’s always amazing to see buildings from 1500 and 1600s. I’ve been to London in 96 and 2008. These are fun tours with hip contemporaries. I wish I could be there walking with you. Can you do country gardens and a lady Diana tour ( Kensington althorp and Mayfair places ? ) and a four weddings and a funeral one ? I would also adore seeing the countryside , preferably with a cameo of Aidan turner shirtless in Cornwall. My grandfather study at the London school of economic s under Harold Lasskie during the depression after Wharton to delay running the family business. I asked him on his deathbed what he majored in. “ the women of Paris “ was his reply with a smile.
I used to love going to Kenwood House, the Ponds and the hill when I used to live in Dartmouth Park, West Hampstead and Muswell Hill. It was easy take the car and park it near the park in those days! I bet not anymore.
Enjoyed watching the video, I was born in Belsize Park in the early 1950's and went to Hampstead Heath with my parents many times, it is my favorite part of London. Now living in Los Angeles it brings back many fond memories.
Have you done one a video on Highgate Cemetery? It's absolutely awesome. I will never forget being a child and getting to tour the Cemetery before it was all cleaned up...Also walking through Hampstead Heath and staying in a house on St. Albans Rd. OMG wonderful, quirky London!
I lived in Bishopswood Road with the school's chaplain and his family. I spent much time wandering around all the places you've shown here. I've not been back for nearly twenty years so I'm very happy to find this.
11:31 the same thing happens in the US. A building gets torn down and it reveals signage from a business from long ago. Makes you wonder what the neighborhood was like when that business was still in business.
Stumbled upon your videos while searching for Battersea related stuff ( my home town). This caused me to look at more of your videos. I really like them well done.
The Hampstead Ponds also made a cameo in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011) where George Smiley played by Gary Oldman takes a swim. Unsure if the scene was filmed in the mixed or segregated ponds but you can see for yourself at 9:55.
What a super tour, Joulz, I loved the feeling of being right out in the country, and the Henry Moore piece was a bonus - so nice to come across random features like that. PS I have dropped your name to one or two people who are interested in visiting London. and I have your book "Rather Splendid London Walks" which is chock full of info, thank you. Years since I was last in London.
Once again, J - enjoyed your light touch and repartee. Another suggestion: an artist's London (i.e. parts of London famously painted by famous artists - and infamous, perhaps)
Nice video! Magadala is still shut (closed Feb 2016), but rumours abound that it may reopen this Christmas. Top floor was already luxury flats when you recorded this!
Hi Jools great you tube vids. I think the st Paul's views are on lay lines. I worked on a building in Ludgate circus and the height of the building was set so st Paul's could be seen from the west.
Great video. Love ghost signs! Would've like to have seen Flask Walk and that felled (fallen?) tree. Looking forward to your video on Golders Green and Golders Hill.
Yes, I do plan to do a Hampstead one including flask walk.. ( a little sad for me as it's the last place I ever had dinner with my dad before he died) but yes, there was too much to fit in and I just follow my nose sometimes. This one took me down the other way.
Ruth Ellis was so nice, the magdala was my local for about 11 years from 90'-01 she wrote a letter to the then landlord apologizing for her behaviour, it was framed and displayed on a wall inside. Great videos that bring back so many memories, having lived in Hampstead, Belisize park and latterly South End Green, yes, you can see the downward spiral.
There is a story that the bullet marks were not real and were put there to boost local interest. Any truth in that. Is the pub still there as I heard it was being converted.
Another interesting video thanks,re the the advert for the LNER,The London and Northeastern Railway was formed from several smaller Railway companies in 1923,and existed until amalgamation with other Railway Companies into 'British Railways' in 1948,so that of course means the advert is from the years between 1923/48
Serioulsy the Spaniard's has the best Fish & Chips as far as I'm concerned! I've been there two weeks ago. And I always enjoy the 20 minutes walk to the pub through the park. Although even the grass at Hampstead Heath Extension has almost no green bits left anymore because of the hot wheather. Actually Hampstead Heath will always be my favourite park in London ever. :D It's quite and nice - if you want to you can walk a two to three hour walk from Wildwood Road to Tufnell Park. A lovely fairy like trip with ducks and little ponds and verrrry old trees. :D
Hi folks. If anyone likes my films and knows any journalists, tv companies or tour operators do let me know. I’m looking to collaborate or work together with these companies to get more exposure and potentially promote their business. Onward and upwards!!! Please help if you can!! Thanks! Joolz
Hampstead Heath very nearly became built-on. A big bridge over water was built to facilitate an access road. The bridge is still there in the middle of the Heath. It is called “Red Arches” owing to its red bricks.
Tip of the hat to your friend there for the shout out to Henry Moore, whose sculptures you sort of tripped over. Important guy-In the bigger scheme of things, he's easily as important to the history of world sculpture as were Constable or Turner to painting.
In Sydney they knock down buildings to build luxury flats which fall apart after a few months or for tollways. I was at Hampstead Heath a month ago quite a large park 👍👍
Hello Joolz, love your videos! I was just at Kenwood today and tried the pond for the first time, didn’t know about it before I watched your video, thanks for the top tip! :)
I work at Kenwood. Hope you had permission to film as filming commercially is not allowed and that you made a large donation to the House! God, how old is that picture...no ones dressed up in the Dairy since ive worked here...7 years!
Great upload I was hoping that you visited the Old Bull & Bush which is still on old Hampstead Lane I don't know but I assume it was the pub the song was immortalised in? and hoped you'd confirm it
Hello there. ^^ I LIKE your tour videos. They just make me want to go back to London and wander. Super nice work. Thank You. (maybe some day i can be a "patreon or whatever that is" ;) - that would be a smiley feeling). Cheers from Portugal.
a couple of years ago the woman who used to be the landlady of the Magdala Pub admitted that her and her boyfriend got drunk one night in the early 80's and drilled those two holes in the wall outside and started the rumor that they were the bullets marks. annoyed me as i used to walk by often and look at them in awe.
I had to walk back from back from Highgate early one morning and heard a horse running up and stopping at the Spaniards inn,i always wonder if it actually was Dick Turpin.. But i wish you'd have followed Spaniards road along to Jack Straws,i used to live in Heath house.
Kenwood House is particularly interesting because it was at one time occupied by the first Lord Mansfield, an instrumental figure in the Granville Sharp slavery litigation.

I can’t seem to get enough of your videos and all the History keep up the amazing work
me too. I'm literally binging as many as I can all day today for a 2nd go around.
@@janetdungan2878 when I go visit I definitely will get in touch with Joolz
Your vids are fabulous, Joolz, I’m learning such a lot about London.
Cheers
Your videos really bring the history of London to life. Keep up the good work!
Thanks. I hope some tv company will notice some day!
Big love to the Main man Joolz, an excellent man & very informative .. charismatic & a perfect paragon of Englishness
I have visited Kenwood House. Lovely place to spend an afternoon.
The Hampstead Ponds also made a cameo in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011) where George Smiley played by Gary Oldman takes a swim. Unsure if the scene was filmed in the mixed or segregated ponds but you can see for yourself at 9:55.
A fantastic Video again!..🎬📹..
You have that old English 🎩 style that is disappearing from this amazing city! 👌
Thanks. Yes, a lot of people are having to move out of London because it's become too expensive...but I'm hanging in there so far!
Late June and rewatching all of Joolz videos for the 5th time! lol
Cheers all! 🍻
Please can you make a video of Christmas in London and the festivals that happens in London during Christmas
I miss all that. Thank you Joolz!
I tiled the roof of 80 Winnington Road. Fascinating I know.
Often wondered who did it
This was lovely recovery after my workout! I got pumped up then was pleasanted by Joolz, Kenwood and Hampstead!....
thanks. I'm glad it was soothing!

Very interesting content, remember spending many childhood outings around hampstead. Thanks for a great video 👍
Great as always Joolz

Hi Jools great you tube vids. I think the st Paul's views are on lay lines. I worked on a building in Ludgate circus and the height of the building was set so st Paul's could be seen from the west.

I quite agree!! Although I do object to the pub having cutlery on all the table ready for dinner. I always feel awkward just ordering a drink.
No cutlery problem on my behalf... Do you really feel ALWAYS awkward ordering a drink?
Not really, I just miss the old way it was. I feels more like you're walking into a restaurant now..but it's still nice!

Great job Joolz. This is probably my favourite of your vids so far. Always interesting and informative, love the trivia you impart to us.
Ah..probably because it's close to home so I'm familiar with the area and was having a nice day with old friends.
Lovely to chat with you on Millennium Bridge last week. Be nice to get a sub from you
Hey there! Yes, great meeting you. What was the name of that camera again? Subscribed!

Great film. I've ran the national cross country race twice on Hampstead Heath which is fantastic. Perhaps could have included 2 Willow Road.
Hello Joolz, love your videos! I was just at Kenwood today and tried the pond for the first time, didn’t know about it before I watched your video, thanks for the top tip! :)
Oh, great to hear, I heard the water level dropped with all the hot weather.
And the Magdala is now a thriving pub once again.
Excellent video
I wonder if, in the kitchens of Kenwood House, they have a Magimix? Lol
You should try out for Escape to the Country.... the only thing I can stopping you would be your height in those tiny little cottage beamed ceilings.
You are the tops Joolz
do more video about famous movies and famous location in London, I know its boring to talk about the Tower Bridge but it can bring more audience.

Kenwood House is particularly interesting because it was at one time occupied by the first Lord Mansfield, an instrumental figure in the Granville Sharp slavery litigation.
Also I can testify that crossing the road to get to that pub is insanely dangerous. Good pub tho.
Did you go to Highgate School? I went to Channing! I remember the open air concerts and Kenwood. By the way, Muffin the Mule lived there.
Ruth Ellis worked in Caesars nightclub. May have been a different name as its passed hands a few times but Caesers was the nightclub in Streatham.
Thumbs up mate!

Didn’t they used to show films projected onto the front of kenwood house?
