Great to see you back Julian & Simon. I really look forward to your guides. I hope both your families are well. Thank you both for another fantastic guide.
Used to live in Chiswick 20 odd years ago, the walk by the river was my Sunday afternoon. I’ll have to do it again someday, when I’m not 4000 miles away.
A friend of mine worked at the Hammersmith Odeon in the '70s. I got to see a lot of acts for free and one of the standouts for me was Blondie. Happy days. Fab video as ever Joolz.
This brought back some amazing memories for me. I was born just off of Fulham Palace Road and all of the area you’ve shown, was my childhood / teen stamping ground. My father was one of the surveyors responsible for the renovation of Butterwick, which is the area in the centre of Hammersmith roundabout. Hammersmith Odeon is where I used to go to Saturday morning pictures, and years later, I saw the commodores with Lionel Richie live on stage at the same place. I used to drink in The Rutland which is next door to The Blue Anchor, and run by a wonderful couple, Mike and Thea. Fun fact about the Rutland…Elkie Brooks used to own property very close by and would often be seen at the bar of The Rutland. Nice lady. Anyway, thank you for the tour of my childhood home. Such happy times.
I used to live near Chiswick and Hammersmith in Shepherds Bush, this was all walking distance from me. I did this walk many times, it was so lovely to see all the familiar spots and learn about the history. I watched Sandman on Netflix recently and noticed they filmed along the river between Furnival Gardens and Hammersmith Bridge. The scene where Dream and Death go visit the old man is in one of the apartment blocks overlooking the river. I really miss this part of West London, I was very fond of it. ❤️

In the early 2000s when i lived in the UK i did some work on (and inside) Hammersmith bridge. We actually worked inside small rooms in the main columns installing and maintaining CCTV equipment. Was good to see the sights again.
Strand on the Green. Chiswick. So beautiful and so much to see and do. Just watch out for the high tide of the River Thames. It floods The Strand at a very high tide. Great pubs and food. 🎉🎉🎉 😂😂😂
I enjoyed going down memory lane, I was a pupil at Latymer prep school during 1952 (70 years ago!) Sir Compton McKenzie's house was close to The Doves, I also remember when Bill Haley's "Rock around the clock" was shown at the Odeon, his fans threw the cinemas chairs out on the pavement to make room to dance!
Back in the day, the 'Latymer Prep School' building also housed some main school six form rooms. The third floor projecting window offered the best view in town of the Boat Race. All the way round the Hammersmith bend from Harrods Depository up to Chiswick Eyot. Other Old Latymerians included Alan Richman, Mel Smith, Hugh Grant, Heston Blumenthal, Dan Luger. As well as a few notorious politicos, Allegra Stratten (yes, that one!), Larry Whitty, Keith Vaz, Peter Walker.
Julez you towering treat, this is my favourite episode yet. A plethora of pubs with Terry and Arthur thrown in!!! A PayPal pint or 2 is headed your way!!!

Another great video Joolz. Thoroughly enjoyed this walk. I will definitely be doing this route next time I'm in London. So many little pubs along the way and quite a few are Fullers pubs. Can't go wrong with a pint of London Pride at the riverside! Cheers from Canada.
Some unwanted information: WB Yeats composed poetry down the Chiswick Eyot (his permanent residence was close by in Bedford Park). The Chiswick Mall features in the opening pages of Vanity Fair, which perhaps says something about its residents at the time. Thanks for another great vid Joolz!
I always love your videos, especially with the background information and touches of history. I’d love to see you travel even further from home, and share stories and views from smaller towns.
Amazing how all of these buildings and structures survives today like the stink pipes. All the plagues on the houses telling you about people who used to live there. Interesting about Hammersmith Bridge as well.
The Verve's "Lucky Man" video was shot in one of the glass buildings at 27:00 and you can see The Harrods Furniture Depository and Hammersmith Bridge in the background.
I have attended the Hammersmith Odeon (or Apollo) to see, Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie and his Orchestra, Little Richard, The Everly Brothers, Fats Domino, The Rolling Stones, Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Booker T & the MGs, Aretha Franklin, Genesis, Brand X, Billy Cobham/George Duke Band, Pat Metheny Group, Tangerine Dream. Also had a long chat outside with Phil Collins, before the Billy Cobham gig. Also did the Fuller's Brewery tour.

You did scare me at the theater, but my partner and I are very glad you will be here to share London with us for a long (we hope) time to come. Cheers from Washington state in the USA! We love you, your Sis, Simon, Mr. Carradine and the whole gang. Hope to see you again soon.
I don't drink but if I did I would say you are aging like a fine wine, Thank you from California
My beloved Chiswick ❤️
What a lovely area and great tour.
Another great walk, I'm so glad that Joolz Guides is not being killed off any time soon. Thanks.
I did the same walk when I visited nearby Chiswick for the first time. Lovely town! Thanks for interesting additional info, always a real treat 🌸
enjoyed seeing my old haunts, you should do more west london, maybe shepherdsbush to acton
I'm glad you cleared that up Joolzy! 🧐😁🥰👍💗🙏
The Verve's "Lucky Man" video was shot in one of the glass buildings at 27:00 and you can see The Harrods Furniture Depository and Hammersmith Bridge in the background.
Video was shot at the Thames warf building, literally 5 mins walk from that luxury residential complex!
