Thank you for all your videos. They bring back many memories of my teen years. I was born in NW London in 1939 and lived there till 1956 when my patents moved out of London. My teenage years were spent working in London, Warwick Lane. Weekends were spent with my mates waling or biking around the west end. I had many trips back there till 1968 when I left for Western Australia. I remember vividly the view from Hampstead Heath of an unspoilt St. Paul's dominating the skyline. Sadly London has been spoilt by incongruous architecture.
My father in law Arthur William “Billy” Watson was a survivor of the 1928 Fulham flood. His rescuer was Madge Franckeiss who later received a citation from the Royal Humane Society. Sadly his sister Irene Watson and cousin Dorothy Watson both perished in the flood. They were living in the basement flat at Hurlingham Court. The flood waters burst the bank at the Hurlingham Club. Thank you for bringing this walking view of the neighborhood all the way to Cape Cod.

That would be good I work at Fulham West ham Millwall and Tottenham as well as Wembley would probably take more then one episode could do north south east and west maybe
A family I nanny’d for were members for the hurlingham club and they took me there with the children...it is really lovely and so idyllic. The kids play area is insane. It’s like entering a another world.
I was born and grew up in the shadow of the Hurlingham Club, but I visited East Germany (when it was still under the Communists) before I ever set foot there! (It was an open day, circa 2002, when I was already in my 40s.) It really is like entering another world!
As always, an absolute treat of a Sunday morning. I don't mind admitting I poured a glass of grapes in anticipation, I dare say I'll follow up with another at lunch. Keep up the superlative work, old bean.
Joolz! In 1975, I moved to London for work and desperate for 'digs'. I ended up living @ The Vineyard, thanks to Kirstie A. I stayed in Lady Beaverbrooks room! Best time ever!....thanks for filming! 😘👏🏻🥂
Good ol' Jooz. Another nice one. During the 1940s I was born in Fulham, (in Fulham Road, near the High Street). I often pop back there for wonder and saw all the lovely places you visited in your video. Believe it or not, you talked about things even I never knew about. Thanks for that!
Thank you for the video sir! It was such a treat! You actually showed my former home at Hurlingham Court Mansions, Hurligham Road, SW6, right in front of Hurlingham Park where me and my little brother played. We attended Holman Hunt Primary School in the 70's at New Kings Road ( it is called by another name today). Parsons Green was our station and mom and I used to cross Putney Bridge to buy at M&S. My dad worked as a MD/PhD at Brompton Hospital. I miss London so much. I visited everything ten years ago, it changed, but not that much. Still feels like home to me. The post office is right there! 💗
Good Sunday Morning Julian and Simon , so glad your nearly at 200 thousand Subscribers. I really hope that You, Your Mum and Family are keeping well. Thank you for another fantastic installment in "Joolz Guide"
Have you seen where he goes to Pitcairn island in the Pacific , to me he should have got an award for that one if you haven't seen it I recommend you check it out
Crikey - so close to the lovely Crabtree pub by FFC and you ended up going over the river to a Putney pub!. Good job though - here's a few missed bits: - The Elizabethan School (on the way to the Hurlingham) - but lovely external shot - The old Ferry dock from the grounds of Bishop's park - still with the words "Ferry" on the sides of the stairs - ran up the 1950s - The old Moat drain - The memorial in the Bishop's Park rose garden to the Fulhamites who joined International Brigade during the Spanish civil war - The curious story of the borough with two football clubs (Fulham & Chelsea). When the London Athletic Club moved out of their sports ground in Fulham near the station (Walham Green as it was), it was redeveloped by it's new owner as a football ground and was to be the new home to Fulham. Fulham couldn't afford it and stayed where they were and a new team was formed to play at the new ground in Fulham. Called Chelsea, in Fulham.
Ah, that was around about late 1904 when Fulham turned down Stamford Bridge. The founders of Chelsea FC , the Mears brothers, firm had built a lot of houses in SW London. I think they had also previously done some construction work at Craven Cottage too. They were also members of the London Athletic Club which had moved to Stamford Bridge in 1877. They wanted to turn the stadium into a multi-sports arena so the track remained. The famous Olympian, Harold Abrahams was also a member of LAC. The London Athletic Club didn't actually move out until 1933. This was after Speedway and then Greyhound Racing had been introduced there. J.T. Mears (one of the brothers) actually gets a mention at 6:25 of this particular walk. Joolz could do three or four walks around SW6.
These videos are absolutely superb. They are very informative, but also highly personal and suitably quirky in just the right places. You also share your fondness for good, old-fashioned English eccentricity. You are doing great work and deserve our support.
Love it❤️ Another one very special for myself. The first place I used to live when I came to London 16 years ago, very close to Fullham Stadium, between beautiful Hammersmith Bridge and Putney Bridge. Thank you for the sentimental journey 🙏 Take care
Thank you for that. I'm an avid Fulham fan. Its true about the M J Statue. When Al Fyed sold the club the new owners took it down and sent it to him as a present, and we loved Mr Khan for doing that.
I used to live in one of those flats in Sulivan Court. They were built in 1951/2 on a polo field which had been bombed in WW2. Walked down Studdridge Road to work, had forgotten about the lions. The park with the zip line is where Monty Python filmed The Upper Class Twit of the Year sketch for the TV series.
I wasn’t aware either polo field was bombed. They were definitely donated to the council during the war to be used as ‘dig for victory’ allotments by locals. After the war the council declined to give them back to the Club and the flats were built and Hurlingham Club was created.
Well spotted re where Monty Python filmed.I was going to mention that! I lived in Sulivan Court too & it was voted best estate in London in 1976 I heard!

Loved this! I grew up in Hurlingham Road in the 60s and 70s and remember going to garden fetes in The Vineyard (Lord Beeverbrook's daughters lived there and opened it once a year; donkey rides, coconut shy, fortune teller etc). The garden was AMAZING.
Wonderful tour as always, Joolz! I especially appreciated this because this is where I lived back in ‘82 when I studied in London. Scores of times, I’d walk past Bishop’s Palace en route from Putney Bridge tube station to Cloncurry Street never realizing how grisly it’s history was. After attending a game at Fulham FC I realized why the area for the fans is called ‘The Stands’, having never been to a stadium without seating for fans before.
Thanks so much man! I’ve been waiting for this since January!!! It just means 'Home' and Fulham's name is as likely to derive from 'Fugol Ham' (Fowl Home) as from any long forgotten personal name.
