80s had the best toys hands down, Star Wars, He-Man, Transformers, GI-Joe. Yeah I know Star Wars started in the 70's but it was still huge until the late 80s.
First off, love the shirt! Simon's Quest spiced things up, and certainly influenced Symphony of the Night later with the rpg elements. And thanks for the thorough rundown with the Optimus Prime 40th reissue!
Like the Soundwave 40th, this appears to be in the 1986 movie colors (with no chrome and no stickers). It's a little confusing though as they still put these in G1 boxes (instead of the 1986 Movie boxes like the others in their movie line).
i have 2001, and i'm so glad. because now the re-releases are way different, slight differences, but they are noticeable. you might have a lot of people retro fitting their Gen-3's with Gen-1 STICKERS off e-bay, for a more accurate look.
Looks fantastic, missed out on it from a couple of retailers this past week. It seemed to initially drop out of nowhere. I managed to order one from Pulse (in the UK) last night. 40th G1 Prime and soon SS86 all in the same month!

Okay so he finally arrived and with my Walmart bucks, and tax and all he was 80 dollars even. I'm actually pretty pleased with how he looks though I forgot how small he is. He is mint I'm leaving him in the box. I have him with my 2019 reissue Cab also mint. I only spent 50 on one and 80 on the other, lol. All because I needed the trailer. I still haven't opened my Missing Link Optimus Prime. I bought a knock off for displaying on the shelf. I know I'll open it soon and put it on the shelf instead. This version, I definitely don't need it, but I also prefer the OG G1 Optimus Prime model. I did order the 1986 TFTM Optimus Prime. This one, I'll be taking a pass on.
Hasbro went half hearted with this. Silver stripes not going all the way on the cab. Visible screws on the sides of the trailer. No chrome. Could've been so much better. What a lazy release by them. An easy pass.
The stripes not going all the way around is because they were not on the arms in the cartoon. No chrome is 100% cost cutting though. The screws in the trailer were always there. Ever since 1984. Just covered by a sticker.
It's awfully hard to go back to G1 OP after the joy that is the Missing Link (with the extra moveabilty and the built in fists) but if you don't have or have never had a G1 OP this certainly isn't bad.
Nice to see they made all the cheapest decisions they could. Silver paint instead of chromed. Trailer sticker is cheaper in fewer colours. No stickers on the inside. Lower-quality wheel detail. Lower-quality or different mouldings throughout. Gotta save those quarters of a penny.
They used the original molds for this so its accurate. The Trailer is the only part that has re-molding done due to the loss of the mold for the part of the trailer that has the launching mechanism. Wheels and tires are the same as the vintage. The Fewer colors are due to this being the cartoon colors, not the toy colors. Other than that its got the same metal parts, and moldings. Sans Stickers.
Let me get this straight. So the trailer itself is a Brand new mold right? If they did that. Why couldn't they make new molds for wheeljack, Sunstreaker, Dinobots ect. all they have to do is copy them. They even said the beast wars rattrap mold was once lost. Look what happened there.
ah dang if it had the flip-out hands like the missing link this would be perfect between this, missing link, and legacy united versions it's like they've each got unique points that make it hard to choose between them
UA-camrs never seem to miss out on any release. You ever notice that? They always get the newest stuff first. And they never seem to miss a pre-order. Maybe EVERY toy collector should become a UA-camr. Start a channel & start talking shit. Get in on all the secrets & backdoor dealings.
I guess this is cool because it's official, but I got a KO G1 Optimus from China back in 2021 for $30 shipped, the only minor issue is the quality of the print in the box isn't the best, but the toy itself is a dead ringer for the original, chrome and all. I wound up getting a Shockwave too. The boxes even had original looking inserts made of foam. This is cool for people who want an official one, but I don't feel the need for it.
I did find a KO Ultra Magnus unfortunately it from China and its 80 dollars and based on the Toys R US short smokestacks and long terrible missiles. You figure you want to KO and steal a mold you'd do the Takara reissue with short missiles and long smokestacks.
It's nice for a retro reissue but the thing is, I'm not a big fan of how it looks. They should've added the gray stripes on his arms, and that'd really complete his look. It looks so incomplete without those stripes.
If they retooled the trailer I wished they would have figured a solution to the screw holes. But I hope these will be in stores soon nothing like picking these up live in person
I found some goofs-- 1. The Missing Link Cartoon Prime doesn't come with the trailer. 2. It was the 2002 American reissue that has the short smokestacks. Wow looks amazing. I do like this version. I don't mind the screws. Question. If they had to retool the launch pad for Roller, how have they done it in the past and for KOs?
The KOs are all new tools made from casting off of existing trailers. (The T2 version) The Kos also only have the short launcher, not the long one like this version. (And one of the vintages)
