    Great video, Pete! When I finally got to a launch monitor years ago I found out 3,500 rpm was killing my drives. I was playing a 11.5° head with a regular flex shaft, carrying around 220. Optimizing my spin and launch, my average carry with an 8.0° head is over 50 yards better! It's important, guys and gals. Get to a launch monitor/simulator and get those numbers dialed in, and get those "real" average carry numbers written down with all clubs. You will not regret it!

      So you kept the regular shaft?

    • @Reffitt2

      @rasmusk.4001 No, I switched to a stiff flex when I got my new driver. Sorry, I should've explained that better. My average clubhead speed with driver is around 110mph. I just meant that until I saw my real numbers on a launch monitor, I had no idea I needed a much lower loft. My driver setup is also much better since I began lessons, and my average attack angle with driver is around 2.6 - 3.0° up. It was amazing to me how much the right equipment (loft, flex) could make such a big difference, and the wrong equipment could hurt your game so much. I was never a huge believer in fittings until then.

      @@Reffitt2 No worries, mate. Was just wondering. I just went back to reg. after a few years in stiff. Have around 93 ball speed. But am still going to experiment with lower loft as the reg. i think would give me rather high spin numbers. Unfortunately i dont have space for a launch monitor. Would love on though. Which one do you have?

      @@rasmusk.4001 I don't have one myself. I'm just lucky that there's a public one only ten minutes from my house in a very small town in the Midwest. It's a GC Hawk (ceiling mounted) launch monitor. I also wish I had one myself, my friend!

    My swing speed is around 95mph, ball speed of 140mph but my backspin is around 4,500 rpm so I only carry around 210 yds. I have tried everything with my club setup and lessons and can’t lower my backspin. I am getting fitted at club champion next week, hopefully that helps. All I asked for Christmas was Club Champion gift cards.

    This exact thing has been on my mind recently because I picked up a PXG driver that I hit SO much better than my old Callaway Epic Flash, but I have lost about 15 yards off the tee (much more consistent though so I'm happy with it). I haven't really messed with the loft but I suspect I'm getting relatively high spin with the PXG and will experiment with the loft to see if I can get my distance back. I probably need to lower it from 10.5 to reduce spin.

    I've been playing just over 6 months I have a 10.5deg Mizuno MP630 Fast Track I bought for £30. At the Range on trackman I Carry about 215yrd and 235yrd total. launch is 15-17degrees and ball speed is around 130mph That only 5 yards or so longer than I hit my Taylormade Jet speed 3wood 17HL The numbers for that are pretty similar. I thought It might have been the older tech of the Mizuno but after buying a Jet speed Driver 10.5 it's about the same.
    Ironically I bought the Jet Speed Driver and pondered whether to get the 13 degree or the 10.5 as I intended to crank more loft onto it as the Mizuno isn't adjustable.
    I'm not looking for mega distance I would like to be able to hit 240-250 consistantly

  • @steve827

    Callaway also has a strong adapter with allows you to drop the loft by 2

  • @user_1664

    I need to get on a machine and get fitted for loft and shaft i think im leaving tonnes on the tee box .
    Worth noting that callaway / ping drivers can adjust loft without opening or closing the clubface whereas you cranking down to 6 degrees is opening your clubface 4 degrees on a taylormade .
    4 degrees open would not suit me even if it does also stick the toe up .
    Bit of a minefield really .
    I carry 10.5 and hit standard loft because and only because that setting suits my eye 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Would love to hear someone like Pete acknowledge that at 11stone (and old) I have to swing out of my shoes in order to generate 85mph, whereas he just taps it.

    • @Vnam72
      @Vnam72 6 місяців тому

      @njc964 actually I'm saying timing isn't everything. Pete is a unit. He taps it and it generates 85mph. I have to swing as fast as I possibly can. That's the difference

    • @njc964
      @njc964 6 місяців тому

      @@Vnam72 it’s not all about mass though. Like a good cricketer can stroke a ball to the boundary, a good golfer can generate power through timing. It helps a touch that he’s heavy, but not as much as you’d think

    • @Vnam72
      @Vnam72 6 місяців тому

      @njc964 timing is very important yes, as is technique to get the most out of what you can physically do. But a simple example of this is why can't women *on average* hit it as far as men? Muscle and mass. No amount of timing or technique will change this will it. I've been practicing my drives for a long time now. My timing is good as is my technique. I have to swing out of my shoes to generate something like 90mph.

    On the 'all drivers are generally good' - I recently tried a PXG 0311 Gen 5, standard model, and my 4yr old, forgiving, shorter shafted, Cobra blows it out of the water by many many yards (carry and total). I didn't think this was possible tbh but there it is.

    • @LegacyAirTech
      @LegacyAirTech 6 місяців тому +1

      The PXG Gen 5 drivers were definitely a step behind others last year, but its still a very good driver. It’s much more likely that you are used to the shorter shaft and swing weight of your old driver, so switching to anything that feels different will result in worse performance for you.
      My PXG Gen 5 does carry less than when I hit my friends TM Stealth 2, but I still carry the PXG Gen 5 driver 285 yards, its a 5 yard difference not 25

    • @Vnam72
      @Vnam72 6 місяців тому

      @LegacyAirsoft it's half an inch difference on the club shaft so it really makes no difference. It's the same shaft model too. Unfortunately I can only carry it about 190, so losing 10 yards carry is a real killer!

    Let's not forget that the longest recorded drive in PGA competition was by Mike Austin at 64 years old. It was 1974 and he used a 43.5" steel shaft with a persimmon wood head and a balata ball to crush it 515 yards. So how much of an advantage does the newer technology really have?

    • @micahbrown4431
      @micahbrown4431 6 місяців тому

      Was he playing in 50mph winds? Links golf? Hit a sprinkler head/rock? I think the newer technology has made such a significant impact that you'd be a fool to pretend otherwise. The data is crystal clear.

    You are a good teacher, but you don’t understand adjustable drivers. You cannot adjust loft, you are adjusting face angle, open or closed for effective loft. At setup, the driver must be off the ground in a square position to achieve the desired setting. Use a specification gauge, try different setting’s, measure angle. Please read Tom Wishon on how adjustable drivers sleeves work. This information in its present form is not valid.

    • @LegacyAirTech
      @LegacyAirTech 6 місяців тому +3

      This is also not entirely true, especially not for driver where you dont bottom out the club on the ground. Changing the loft setting on the hosel does affect face angle due to the off center nature of how these hosel adapters work, but it does change the loft of the driver as well *as long as you present the shaft the same way as you did before adjusting*
      An easy way to think about it is that adjusting the hosel adapter moves the shaft but keeps the driver head the exact same. Then, if you position the shaft back to where you had it before, this will manipulate the face to change its loft/face angle to whatever the setting on the hosel was.
