A good start to some balance patches but a lot more needs to be done.

The NPC change is probably things like Tholliger not moving in or doing anything somethings in the final boss right.
As if they needed any help being useless, this happened to me at least twice
Ah, that’s why I could only see one npc helping me in that fight
@@stefanbraidwood2007 Exactly lol, Ansbach might as well not even been there in the gank fight, can't imagine how useless Thollier must have been.
Thollier for me literally just jumped off the side of the stair bridge and died after I summoned him. I guess he knew what was beyond the fog gate before I did.
thank goodness someone else noticed this. I thought I was losing my mind
The super vague fix to “text not displaying properly” probably refers to that Stake of Marika that had bugged text after it let you examine it for some reason.
So after seeing this you know what this means.... the ansboch bow doing max damage on a single arrow is intended baby let's gooooo
They still got a lot of balancing to do. I'm sure it's next on the chopping block along with falx and blind spot.
the fix for perfume aow not doing ay damage was that if you used the aow varient of golden vow it would literally do 0 damage. it would stagger tf out of enemies but do nothing otherwise. i wass all to familiar with that bug on my perfumer playthrough
I remember this, I was like what? It staggering but legit doing zero dmg I thought I was high lol
im sitting here wondering how that even happens - because they did it like two or three times before LMAO
same thing would happen with certain ash of war buffs (e.g. AoW vow, rallying standard, jellyfish shield) on a bunch of different stuff a few patches ago - other ashes of war like waterfowl dance (going to 14 damage per hit) or the wing of astel nebula skill (doing literally 0 damage, just the stagger effect like with sparks) and even for some fire-related incants right after they patched fire's deadly sin (definitely remember catch flame, but some frenzyflame incants were affected as well?)
@@sinou319 They run into the same bugs over and over. There's that one, there's the one where buffing a weapon buffs the unbuffable weapon you're holding in your other hand...
Really cool of you to show things in game rather than just reading the patch notes. Quality work. Good gamer.
The carian sword should have a hitbox on its casts so if you cast slicer, it hits with the sword too
Nah too broken
Insane they made a patch that brought back the chainsaw glitch the death blight glitch AND added a somehow even worse bloodhound step and still none of that was priority number 1 for the next balance patch
>gets summoned for messmer
>Host does the their full 90 buff setup
>Walls into fight
>Does 1 swing and deals 20k damage
Yeah I can see how that would be slightly high priority. Yeah, said host always dies 4 seconds later because they have 0 vigor and no idea how to do anything but panic roll because their morons, but still, a even slightly competent player could annihilate bosses with it.
Chainsaw was always active and they literally fixed the death blight bug on the torch.
"Worse" bloodhound step lol you physically could not catch up to someone with pre-nerfed bloodhound step. It's not even comparable because it's a completely different issue.
Fire knight greatsword is still extremely good if you ask me. Obviously you can’t two tap people now.
But what we’re left with is a Zweihander with much better scaling, better light attacks and an inherent damage increase whenever flame is applied as a weapon buff. With 72 faith and flame art, my fkgs hits 1006 AR, you’ll have to work for your kills more but that damage is absolutely insane.
Yeah it's still the best. Just not by a giga amount anymore
I was one-shotting people online with RKR Zweihander before DLC, I'm pretty sure Fire Knight's can easily do the same with the two handed sword+spear+axe talismans.
A friend of mine was so in love with the FKGS, it broke his heart when I told him it was bugged in PvP. He's gonna be thrilled they fixed it so he can murder people with it ethically now.
@Fasumbra I didn't want to use it because it was broken as well. Then after the patch the game decided to give me on after my first fire knight kill. It might be a sign that I need to give it a try finally.
@@lharsay If they walk into it, sure.
I think they bug fix about "text being displayed incorrectly" is probably for Jolan & Anna ashes, since the item description was cut off. Can't check right now though, sadly, so I'm just gonna assume it is.
Nope, just checked and it still cuts off after "and" lol
@@anitaremenarova6662 *Insight gain sounds*
"FromSoft has high hopes for us. That we continue to struggle (with understanding), unto eternity."
Calling a thrusting sword “really not that great” is crazy
Rolling sparks should still be good against large bosses
i tested dueling shield and they are still goated in pvp the thing i like about it is how every time u finish a light attack the weapon moves back to guard and actually guards from attacks. so u can delay attacks to confuses other players while still blocking.
I wouldn't say its all that great anymore, it's really just a shield poker with less weight. Greatshield with a Spear will be better.
@@EmilKlingberg im getting up to 680 dmg with it on light attack with more range, i still think its better then any shield with spear that's at least how i feel about it i might be wrong
@@EmilKlingberg Pretty sure it's better than shield poking because your guard boost isn't lowered during regular attacks.
Hyper armor kick probably guarantees a riposte now like on all other shields so there's a simple counter now. Also endure + Fist weapons will probably nab a ripsote very quickly too now. It's now more of a knowledge check than anything.
@@bilowik123 Kick isn't a guaranteed guard-break, it just does 999 stamina damage which means the heaviest of shields are unaffected provided you have enough max stamina and aren't shield-poking.
But the chainsaw bug still exists
That is never gonna be fixed lol
I use it like a feature to kill bug abusers, swift slash users and blind spot users
I love that you lump in swift slash and blind spot with bugs, lol. Hope those get properly tuned.
At this point I think Fromsoft considers it a feature.
Intended application 😂
I believe the Fire Knight greatsword "affinity" change was the fact that how its flavor text referenced getting more damage on fire infusions. Before this patch it used to get more damage on sacred infusion rather than flame art.
The rolling sparks bug was sometimes if you cast golden vow it would do no damage. I’ve seen it on a friends stream
The gaius change will probably be helpful for players that are struggling. Now you can summon right out of the gate
ngl my takeaway from the patch was mainly that people can finally use lighting perfume and FK greatsword because they're neat and fun, and not feel bad for it
Apparently, the Sorcery Sword is one of the better Catalysts now at 40-50 INT, so at least it has that going for it. Although the physical scaling is not great, so you'd want to pump your INT up to 80 to get the most out of it anyway.
Yeah - the intent seems to be that you use it in a mixed Int/Dex or Int/Str build to let you weave a moderate amount of sorcery in without a big loss.
They need to fix rain of fire
Hopefully next patch will bring buffs, there's so much that's super weak and none of it got addressed this patch which is a bit worrying.
I was expecting something like Mohg's rain minus the blood flame. Boy I was wrong
@@jessiesewell4076 Instead of Mohg's rain minus the blood you got Founding Rain of Stars minus the damage.
I think the big thing with discus hurl in PvE was Royal Knight's Resolve. You could buff your right hand weapon and just spam discus hurl with 80% more damage until the buff ended.
Thing is carian sorcery sword is one of the best magic catalysts for less than/equal to 40 int, the real use for it will probably be some cool combos like how the heysel pick was used in ds3 (though notably it is not a hammer and in a game with passive poise)
I wish the carian sword’s effect was an ash or just given to more weapons. I would’ve loved to have a colossal sword version to two hand
Ayy I'm glad you went over this you have the best patch note videos
4:50 The bug was that if you had the Golden Vow weapon art active (Not the spell) then Rolling Sparks just did 0 damage
Really appreciate the background gameplay highlighting the changes!
For the 2nd Fire Knight Greatsword bug, the R2 was not doing Thrust damage as it should, but was doing Standard damage instead. This is what was fixed
The reaction to this patch makes me think that about 20% of the people who play are fans of all souls borne games and the other 80% just look up the best build to carry them through the game without actually experiencing difficulty
That's essentially Elden Ring in a nut shell. Brainless clones
Well that’s just what happens when your game breaks into the mainstream and starts attracting normies to your game.
For real dog I am glad Miyazaki/from software are getting more recognition and attention but the massive influx of scrub mentality new players who don't like the game as it is and want it to be something else, constantly finding something to whine about, make me never want to participate in discourse again
@@Always_Gatekeep_tourists”your game” lmao get over yourself.
the only people who pay attention to patch notes are the fans, normies have already beaten it and moved on, and usually people have a bad habit of reading a others share the same opinion about something and then assume that its "80%" of everyone when it's really not that big a number and the person making this conclusion just has a problem with objective permanence. its mostly a social intelligence skill but you'll get it eventually
Congratulations for 200k !
I'm mostly here for the humor but the quality of analysis and elaboration really makes this channel special
Swift slash is still overtuned but theres a chance to fight it now
The problem of a casting weapon is that it's either not viable in terms of damage or the best-in-slot weapon you can take, you can't make it inbetween. Since other casting tools do nothing else than let you cast spells, having a weapon that lets you attack and cast spells has to do less damage than both casting tools and similar weapons, otherwise you wouldn't use casting tools or other weapons.
Super happy about the throwing dagger buff and sorcery sword
Carian sorcery sword is meant to be used with a shield ash of war like golden parry or shield bash. It'll give the utility of poking with some spell casting. It's not as good as two weapons, but it could probably make a decent build.
Perfume users were REALLY upset in the comments on Oro's video. One of my comments making fun of them got shadowbanned. One of them claimed they had beaten every Souls game at level 1 with no upgrades, so it was fine they abused the bug, it was crazy.
You can literally 1 shot any boss in the game using buffs and hot swapping. Who cares about perfumes?
1) It is just a game.. let people play however they want..
2) Perfumes are now useless.. With the broken skill they at least had one purpose..
3) Not THAT many people used it in my coop games..
@@DrooledOn so... the things you talked about are not bugs, perfumes one shot were, hope that helps you understand 👍
@@DrooledOn Because they do more damage than hot swapping with buffs with none of the setup, and do even more if you actually bother. Hot swapping and setting up a hyper mode kill takes some skill and a lot of game knowledge, pressing L2 and aiming down to do 8.5k damage does not.
@@TheRealJohnHooper
1. Miyazaki and his team made the game, and the perfumes doing 8k damage was not part of the game. So no, cheating isn't playing.
2. Not true. They look cool and fulfill a lore and storytelling purpose. Just because all you think about is damage and the meta doesn't mean that's all that matters.
3. I saw it a lot, both as an invader and as a summon helping others. I don't summon so never saw it that way, but yeah, it was pretty popular. More popular than a literal cheating ability should be, certainly.
4:25 I'm pretty sure one of the buffs this effected was golden vow. If a player was affected by golden vow, the perfume skills stopped doing damage. It's not like the old wall of sparks needed golden vow to do good damage before, and perfume bottles in general probably won't see a ton of use now, but it's good they didn't leave the bug in the game regardless.
Actually got a notif when the video got uploaded.
RIP Perfume bottles. Despite Hosts' inability to stay alive, it was a big help in helping people clear bosses.
Really love seeing Scott back on the ER grind
2h ts staggers everyone below 116 poise, which on meta level is basically impossible to get. It also has significantly more range and speed than even 70 vdex slicer
Just endurence to 40 it’s not hard at meta
so use a magic estoc which still has a higher AR. can still even have an offhand staff
none of this is true. you can get 115 poise (breakpoint is not 116, maybe you mean erpvp ladder rules) at rl125 pretty easily, and it doesn't have any additional casting speed on its own compared to other catalysts so not that much stronger than offhand ts with mainhand staff
also wait it's you from g9cord hi
@@ScottJund no, onehanded estoc have 88 poise damage and if you are using it twohanded you would have to switch grip to use staff which would stop you from using certain mixups with spells
@@sovietspaceship i think he meant that r1 of ts is better than slicer, which is true. This ts of course isn't very damaging, but in terms of animations is still better
For the fire knight great sword affinity: might refer to the weapon getting a buff with holy infusion instead of fire infusion
Carian Sorcery Sword is good for shield poke builds. You can shield poke and use sorceries on the same build. It's very good IMO because the main issue with shield poke is that you're locked into a short range thrusting weapon.
Hey Scott, have you messed around with miriam's vanishing + incants at all? I can imagine some pretty nasty stuff with wrath of gold/radagon's rings/triple rings on a build like this.
"Carian Slicer on an unaware enemy is still 712 damage. On an aware enemy, it's still 859." Huh? What happened there?
Different staff
Unfortunately they kind of overnerfed Rolling Sparks. Or rather, it wasn't just fixing a bug. I never even knew about the exploit of aiming it at the ground, I just used it as a like, line AoE that could deal good damage on bigger targets who'd be hit by multiple explosions. And now the damage on it is like, extremely, extremely low. It can usually outdamage normal attacks, but that's hardly saying much given how low those attacks already are. And even then it's only usually.
@4:55 Its likely referring to the ash of war version of golden vow, which made the rolling sparks do 0 damage.
For rolling sparks it was not working when you had golden vow active, it basically absorbed the attacks
Gazing Finger is insane! That AoW being a chargeable knock-up is disgustingly strong.
Though it won't be great I think the thrusting sword could now be used on a turtle build. Apply Magic Shield with it and the occasional swift glintstone pebble. Probably not unusable.
I will say the perfume bottles carried me through the ng+7 final fight yesterday but it's good to see them nerfed. And out of all the bosses that got a tweak.... the golden hippo...? I never had any issues with his grab attack if you just roll to the right when he gets close. He just circles you trying to get you while you're free to r1 spam away
It's just the hippo the worst "boss" in this dlc
You apparently have not cooped the Hippo then. Cause on ANY latency (as a phantom) his grab is horrendous and can get you when you are behind him and after rolling. Now if you are soloing him then it is very easy to dodge with no latency or lag from frame drop of the quills but cooping causes the quills and other particle effects to just kill the frames on PS5.
@@LoneStarrZombies I've been playing on Xbox and didnt notice it too much. Granted I've only been summoned to help with that fight once with my friend so I haven't noticed it much, but the fact it got fixed means it was a big issue that needed patching so om glad it did
@@DTPandemonium you can put a health bar at the bottom of my screen but if I find you in the overworld and can spank you easily you're not a boss
I'm not interested in abusing bugs personally but I was interested in using the perfumes. It would be nice if they got a little buff to be solid. I was using beast claws and those felt like nerfing myself in PVP lol such a tough weapon to master. Not a top player or anything but I've been a souls fan since og demon's souls and man these weapons have been a good time.
glad i got to try out the customary op 1.0 giga-nuke build but those perfumes were not long for this world - everything about them felt fucked and still kinda does, they are a very cool idea but id imagine they are gonna either be oppressive or total shit - very tricky to balance a weapon like that

Just a note regarding the Carian Sorcery Sword, apparently at 40 int it is the best sorcery option. Assuming that's true it makes it much more viable depending on your build i think?
sure, but at 40 int the damage it does is pretty pathetic with its melee attacks, so theres a tradeoff there

only if you cared about trying some dumb 1-shot build on him with the lightning perfume.
You don't have to beat him to get the most out of the DLC. To my knowledge all you get is a lore cutscene and a bugged incantation.

I wanted to see if they made his cross chop combo less bs, but it appears not. Frustrating
I need "Hey guys Scott here" as my morning alarm
You should have tested the Carian Sorcery Sword at lower INT levels. Fully upgraded sorcery sword, Youwy has it as the best "staff" for sorcery scaling until level 40 int. At that point the scaling begins to skew in favor of the staffs that you compared it to, end game staffs at level 80 INT 😂
Anywho, just thought I'd point out your results were misleading. Feel free to fact check my source if you want: Youwy
🤙🏾
The int sword also does higher poise damage so its better in pvp but yea i think going pure caster is better
I knew I wasn’t going crazy when summoning Black Knife and these bosses where at full HP after 2min of fighting
I wonder if they’re gonna get around to fixing the staff of the great beyond because I want to rock it in good conscience
As a pure strength build, happy to hear the spread crossbow haven’t been touched lol
No buffs for poleblade of bud? It's a damn shame that one of the few weapons with scarlet rot status remains mediocre compared to other boss weapons from the DLC.
The fact it deals scarlet rot is probably why they’re keeping it weak. The other rot weapons are the same. Except for the rotten greataxe, that thing is very strong.
Great video... I think, wasn't paying attention, was on a nostalgia trip from the shirt.
All they had to do was boost Carian sword sorceries with the Carian sorcery sword. It's right there in the name.
Really it should have some interaction with them, like the sword's hitbox counting too, or slicer being applied to the weapon's usual combo, when slicer is the active spell.
I was testing a bit in the colosseum and idk if it's just me but the only thing that this patch seems to have fixed is the perfume bottles. The Swift Strike AoW is still incredibly broken, the thrusting shield's nerf is minimal at best, and the fire knight's greatsword is still true comboing me. Again I might just be a moron but to me this doesn't seem like it actually did anything.
Greatshield talisman is your friend, if you don't use big weapons run ashes that ignore shields. Can confirm the fire knight GS got nerfed, just did a few duels and it didn't stun me into second hit.
Yeah I'm not sure that you were fully on the recent patch. The thrusting shield is in a great place now, you can EASILY guard break with just one kick, and it can only trade 2 hits on a big weapon but it will still win trades so you can's just monkey mash and expect a win. The knights greatsword no longer is a true R1 combo but crouch into R1 can be. Swift slash is still broken yes, and perfumes are useless now so they need a buff or change. Blocking maybe the current way to escape a swift slash but the stun is just too much still.
I’m a mage. Mage love jellyfish shield. Jellyfish shield love thrusting sword because I can shield-n-poke.
Jellyfish shield doesn’t love other int weapons because their combat art is blocked by the shield.
You can argue that carian slicer and moonblade are better close-range options, for which I agree. But I really wanna use this memory slot for other spells…
2:30
for rollcataches in pvp as an offhand?(iirc does hae spellcasting when in the left hand, but i might be misremembering)
4:32 It was golden vow, after buffing with golden vow spell or consumable or ash, rolling sparks would cause zero damage, it wouldn't even aggro hahaha
The sorcery sword is actually the best catalyst in the game at 40 int and under, you probably won’t be at that level of int if you’re a caster in the dlc but worth noting ig
Swift Slash still needs nerfs. damage and hitstun was just one aspect; it's still unreactable and travels way too far. you still need to carry a shield to counter it; remember, block the dash, roll the after effect.
Rolling Sparks has been brought in line with other ashes, as long as you use it against enemies with large hitboxes. Unbuffed, if you get three sparks to connect, it's about 1800 damage per use. buffed up with talismans and an elemental physick, we can get close to 3500 damage per ash use, which is about average as far as ashes of war go. Hopefully we see some buffs to the base moveset, because as it is it's still an ash-of-war stick with no merits by itself.
Thorns is still overtuned. Blindspot is still overtuned. Spread crossbow is still overtuned. Ansbach bow still overtuned.
More work to be done. I'll wait til we're in a better spot.
That Perfume damage is about on par with a well aimed Spiral Shard so that sounds like exactly the kind of thing I expected the Perfume to do in the first place. I still think it is good in PvE, especially stuff like the Cold version to break armor and Lightning to bypass resistances. Glad I can make use of them now without the stigma attached, they are really cool weapons.
Swift Slash isn't Judgement Cut END anymore so that's also good. Now you can just be regular Vergil and not Permanent Devil Form Vergil. Looking forward to the Blind Spot kneecap though, but I'm gonna assume they were working on this patch from Day 1 onwards, so maybe it slipped under their radar until too late to get patch approval from consoles.
Its reactable but I agree with the other stuff but it's also the first patch we got of plenty to come
Yep, only Oroboros fans are complaining that this is "unfair" cause they like to sh*t on people with minimal effort, unlike this channel. You can tell that Scott is just a good person from his interactions and that Oroboro is one of those employees you work with that you avoid at all cost cause they are just annoying and like to sleep on the job while you do all their work for them. I no nothing about Elden ring but I miss Scott and his dbd patch videos so I watched some of this
People are a bit obsessed with things being “optimal” in these games, if something is not amazing it’s often thrown to the wayside. Don’t forget to have fun people! Everything is viable with only a couple exceptions in the entire game (think varres bouquet). Elden ring has an immense amount of variety so try some creative combos with your builds, use things that aren’t considered meta, I promise you can still see plenty of success in pvp.
I had ~600 hours of pvp playtime in ds3 before I got bored of it, I have at least 1600 hours of pvp playtime in elden ring and I can’t see myself getting bored of it anytime soon.
I didn't even know the thrusting shields were bugged. I killed the final boss last night using it and it got nerfed the next day. Part of me is relieved I beat it before then, and part of me is a little said that I only beat it bc I was basically abusing a bug. Fmlll
Kneejerk quick patch sounds about right. Fix a few bugs people bitch about (which is good sure but so many left in the game), do a few unnecessary nerfs "compensated" by buffs that barely could be considered that at all (still awful range for those smithscript weapons, and now with a fourth of the damage cut off! Classic FromSoft balancing). Perfume bottles aren't broken anymore, BUT they made sure any other forms of dealing damage were cut too so now they're bad meme weapons like the DS2 Ladle or DeS Needle of Eternal Agony or DS3 Yorshka's Spear/any miracle build in general.
And also true, people keep bringing up stuff that's broken but the stuff that's just complete garbage to use outweighs it by far. A patch that fixes things that are broken is good but a bunch of stuff needs some buffs too. This patch was kind of half-assing it. Things are either trash or brokenly OP with a few in-betweener "good" things. And as apparent they can't fix broken things (or things that weren't even broken to begin with, like smithscript weapon damage) without burying it in the ground. Hopefully they figure things out by the end because the regular game of ER before the DLC drop was actually balanced well in an enjoyable way for the most part, thanks mainly to being able to separate PvP and PvE balancing finally. If they were able to do that in the Dark Souls 2 and, especially Dark Souls 3 days then those games would've had better changes in the end (DS3 got hit the worst by far though from FromSoft "overbalancing").
I understand why the shield takes less stamina damage while attacking, and while in previous patch it was probably too little it definitely was never a bug; since you're attacking while guarding with most attacks, and those attacks costume stamina, taking full stamina damage on your guard would cause virtually every attack to be at risk for a guard break. One decently heavy attack against your shield, and the stamina consumption + the stamina damage could easily drain massive chunks of your bar, so mitigating stamina damage is clearly necessary for balancing. I'm glad they didn't hit it with a heavy hand here and still let it mitigate a lot
FS nerfed the smithscript weapons, yet erdsteel dagger remains the unintended faith scaling. It's not that erdsteel dagger is strong or anything, it's the inconsistency that bugs me.
bloodfiend arm was rlly good
note about carian caster sword, thrusing attacks are really good if you compliment it with a good left hand weapon, very similar to yhormes great machette from ds3. The best sorceries to cast with a low damage casting tool is spells that provide hyper armor or CC (Gavels great hammer, glintstone trio, zamor icestorm, greatsword phalanx. It will provide pressure while you are performing running attacks with the thrusting sword which will control what your opponents can do in a fight.
Haveing a duel weild build with an array of CC heavy spells is worth testing at the vesy least.
Also to add, this kind of adjustment patch is typical for fromsoft, they address the severe outliers first, then they bring up the under performers on the 2nd or 3rd balance patch. We are probably looking at another month before buffs
That tiche bug has been part of the black knife weapon and tiche since I can remember I thought it was just how death flame worked.fumer bottles need a but of a buff, thyere not that useful in their current state. They fuck up little guys but their animations are so slow that its not visble to use them outside of the field to kill small enemies
Swift slash with bleed is still really strong from fighting it and testing it with friends like back hands blade proc bleed way to fast
So the lightning perfume won't do the massive damage anymore?
Scott I’ve never played Elden ring. Nor any firmsoft game, and not cause i don’t like it’s just never came across my radar as all my friends gravitated towards shooters growing up. Smithscript Cirque/Throwing daggers are just trash even with new patch, there isn't any instance where the Smithscript Discus/Hammer aren't just objectively better for range and damage.
A base game Kukri or Throwing dagger have more range and the Kukris have bleed build up and range just a bit less than shortbows with lock-on.
I'm actually sad that the perfume bottle bug got fixed. They're such cool and fun weapons but rolling sparks was about all they had going for them. Now they need either a huge buff to their range or they need to be infusable to get S scaling in their affinity stats so they can do some actual damage.
Honestly never had any problems with boss placement.
Hippo, Commander, and Messmer are horrible for helping others in coop. The hosts are dumb enough to just stand at the gate and once you get in then you are slammed immediately. If you are solo and anticipate it then no problem but helping others is just a nightmare right now. Imagine if Malenia spawned right next to the fog gate, it would be a sh*t show for coop.
I've helped alot with those bosses in co-op only seen a handful of people just eat it. But that was my experience.
I hope they actually start buffing things
where is the bugfix for fire rain ;-;
