- In Quran 5:22, Moses tells the people to enter the land that God has promised them, and they express concern about its inhabitants. Dr. Shabir Ally shows that the Arabic term used to describe the inhabitants could refer to power and fierceness, but the Quranic commentators spun fanciful tales, writing that the the people were so giant they could reach down into the ocean, grab a fish and roast it in the eye of the sun, and when they were thirsty, they would hook the clouds and drink from them.

We now have the Pharaos body in preserved form out of the Pyramids, we know without any doubt today that he was of normal height just like us modern day humans, which means, people of his era were of similar height too, that includes Moses (pbuh) and these groups of ''fearsome people'' referred to in the Quran. I really wonder where these great scholars came up with these mythical legends, and how dare they include such details in Quran commentaries when the Quran says no such thing. The fact that these stories have infiltrated the Hadiths, gives us more reason to discard the Hadiths that have corrupted the Muslims of today.

Brother, some hadith are mutawatir. You cant just reject whats mass transmitted. Problematic hadith are ahad, and we must distinguish between the two. So we must critically analyse the hadith, not just discard them

@@Hamza00011 Do you accept the Torah and the Bible that exists today? Afterall at one point they came from Allah himself. But still you dont accept it, isnt it. Why not? Coz you know some of it is corrupted, and when you know parts of it is corrupted, you cannot trust the rest. So you discard the whole thing (and instead rely on the wholly preserved Quran) because you know for sure that corruption has entered these books.
So why dont you then apply the same standard to Hadiths specially when you know its man made, written and collected by fallible Humans and Rasullah himself opposed them being written down? Why do you give it divine status and importance?
Also, how dare you ignore Allah's command when he says in the Quran that - Which other hadiths will you rely on other than the Quran? When Allah himself says the Quran is 1) Perfect 2) Complete 3) Sufficient and 4) Fully Detailed, why should we not believe in Allah and listen instead to Scholars who promote man made Hadiths? Has Allah not rewarded you with eyes, ears and a thinking Brain? Was this limited to Scholars only? Is the Quran not a guidance for every human being not just the Scholars?
There is only 1 verse in the entire Quran that says Rasulalllah is the final prophet, we believe it and make it part of our Shahada and core belief. 1 verse out of 6000+ was sufficient for us. Yet there are so many Anti-Hadiths verses in the Quran, but somehow we choose to ignore all of them.
Remember many Hadiths graded Sahih are also deeply problematic and go against the Quran. We have been conditioned to believing them from ages just because they are graded Sahih. Again, did Allah grade them Sahih? No, fallible humans did. Allah promised to protect the Quran, did he guarantee protection of Hadiths? Nope.
So how different are we then from the Jews and Christians who follow man-made corrupted Books?

Hi, have a question for Dr. Shabir. How would he explain the fact the Prophet Nuh (AS) gave dawah to his people for 950 years? isn’t that fantastical if he thinks those narration on Adam and Musa are fantastical! What about the fact that the people of cave was put into sleep for 309 years! these are not interpretations these are mentioned in Quran.

Is he saying Moses was 15ft or 50ft? Not very clear
If giants had societies, then their family and societies would need to be giants. Their horses and camels, livestock, vegetation, tools and accessories would also need to be gigantic to service and sustain them. Their enemies, if not also giants, would likely depict them as giants.
There are always taller people in all societies and they could be exaggerated tin legend but considering actual giants is not a practical idea.

Jazakallah shaykh. The problem with problematic stories is that we get a reactionary response, where some consider discarding all hadith and reports. This is unscholarly. We must re scrutinise the hadith and other stories as Dr Shabir says and not just discard them as some are proposing

well the Bani Israil at that time were slaves for decades (centuries maybe?)
slaves are treaten poor of course, and most of them probably malnourished and have smaller posture compared to the healthy free people in the Syam/Levant area that they wanted to enter
If adam was 90 ft tall due to the laws of energy and square cubic laws he would require like 100s if not 1000s of plates of food per day to sustain himself. He would need to eat all day long to get enough calories. Just a 7ft tall person today has to eat tons of calories it takes the whole day of eating it lol 90ft tall

Allaah created Adam (peace be upon him) sixty cubits tall, then mankind gradually grew shorter until they stopped and remained as they are now. The evidence for that in the Sunnah is the hadeeth of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “Allaah created Adam sixty cubits tall, then mankind kept getting shorter until now.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 3326; Muslim, 2841). Ibn Abi Haatim narrated with a hasan isnaad from Ubayy ibn Ka’b that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah created Adam a tall man with a lot of hair on his head, as if he were a tall palm tree.”
Al-Haafiz ibn Hajar (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in Fath al-Baari:
“ ‘Mankind kept getting shorter until now’ means that each generation grew shorter than the generation before, and that decrease in height ended with this ummah, and that is how they stayed.”
And Allaah knows best. May Allaah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad.
Because of this, the holy Quran should be understood as a standalone text.
1400 years of dogma exist because the scripture has always been filtered through tafisrs, culture, hadith, fatwas etc. Its never been interpreted solely on it's own
@@Cassim125 but how can you interpret it solely on it's own? We are children of our time and we think and understand things a certain way. So the interpretation will inevitably have a footprint of the history period it was written in.

I propose an interpretation as many others in modern age want that's based on fairness, reason and the overall goal of what a scripture is supposed to be. So we must ask what is the goal of the entire scripture ? Is it to control people, force them to believe or is it about guidance , building character etc

Why should this concern Muslims? Ayyub is the great, great grandson of Esau. Deuteronomy 2 says the sons of Esau, Moab, and Jacob all fought against giants known as Emim, or Anakim. Goliath was an Anakim.

Everyone knows that the commentators are not in the process of writing a Sihah books, they explain the linguistic meaning and then narrate all the stories they heard, regardless of whether they are authentic or weak, or even if they have a series of narrations or not.
Al-Qurtubi said (it was said) without even mentioning the chain of sanad for this fairy tale.
Ibn Kathir mentioned this story and then commented immediately afterwards that this story is one of the Israeli stories and it cannot be true in addition to that it contradicts the explicit Qur’an.
Ibn Kathir is another person with issues. That guy blamed everything on the Jews lol. So yea, people should learn whatever they can without filter.
Why is Dr. Shafiah wearing hijab like this? As far as I know in my limited knowledge, both head and chest should be covered with veil. Shouldn't one be more careful when they are followed by others? As a representative of an Islamic channel, shouldn't she be more thorough in wearing hijab so as not to reveal her figure?
