The Prophet (PBUH) said: Sahih al-Bukhari 7362 Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said (to the Muslims). "Do not believe the people of the Book, nor disbelieve them, but say, 'We believe in Allah and whatever is revealed to us, and whatever is revealed to you.' " The Companions and all Muslims in general do not believe, nor do they disbelieve the stories of the People of the Book.

For each and every good action or bad action micro or macro happening this world , there is metaphysical connection to the 7 heavens among the world of angels,jinns and humans. So this world is not separate from that biggest domain that includes all what is in 7 heavens. This is something related to the nature of soul or ruh whose true nature known only to Allah. Perhaps Allah explains this in this verse. For every micro or macro good or bad actions in this world ,there is repurcations to the other side of the world hereafter. Every actions has their own levels. This is veiled to us in this world due to temporal collective caprice surrounds all of us in this world and the reality will be unveiled once our soul goes to next world. This is what Allah says. Legend of Ophiuchus
Serpent was a symbol of medicine in ancient Greece. The hero of Ophiuchus was Asclepius who was an excellent healer and a son of Apollo. Asclepius could cure the dying people and save the just died people. As a result, the population of the Hell decreased sharply and Hades in charge of the Hell complained to his brother Zeus. For the sake of his brother and his vow of preventing the entire human race from becoming immortal, Zeus agreed to the request of Hades and killed Asclepius with a bolt of lightning.
Apollo was very sad after learning the news and he came to Zeus to complain. Zeus was also very regretful and found it improper to have killed the benevolent healer. Therefore, he brought the soul of Asclepius to the Heaven and appointed him as the God of Medicine. To praise the painstaking research and exploration spirit of Asclepius, Zeus also brought the Serpent to the Heaven and made it and Asclepius the Ophiuchus.

But the verse you mentioned in chapter 2 verse 29 doesn't say that the earth was on the back of an animal rather it says " It is He who created for you all of that which is on the earth. Then He directed Himself to the heaven, [His being above all creation], and made them seven heavens, and He is Knowing of all things."

The conclusion is, for those who intrepret the Qur'an without submiting to only Allah, and without only depend on Allah, in understanding an ayat of the Qur'an, they will get confused.

I did my research and copied the following explanation of Surat 65, verse 12, from Tafseer El-Aloussi, which refers to the creation of seven heavens and earth. The commentator quoting Al Dahabi, one of the eminent Hadith scholars, refutes the authenticity of the Hadith narrated by Al Hakem and mentioned by Dr. Shabir. I invite those who can read to reflect on the last sentence in the following Arabic text.
وأخرج ابن أبـي حاتم والحاكم وصححه عن ابن عمر مرفوعاً وأخرج ابن أبـي حاتم والحاكم وصححه عن ابن عمر مرفوعاً " إن بين كل أرض والتي تليها خمسمائة عام والعليا منها على ظهر حوت قد التقى طرفاه في السماء والحوت على صخرة والصخرة بيد ملك والثانية مسجن الريح والثالثة فيها حجارة جهنم والرابعة فيها كبريتها والخامسة فيها حيَّاتها والسادسة فيها عقاربها والسابعة فيها سقر وفيها إبليس مصفد بالحديد يد أمامه ويد خلفه يطلقه الله تعالى لمن يشاء
وهو حديث منكر كما قال الذهبـي لا يعول عليه أصلاً فلا تغتر بتصحيح الحاكم، ومثله في ذلك أخبار كثيرة في هذا الباب لولا خوف الملل لذكرناها لك،

Would you please give more information on spreading of Islam in the southern part of Indian subcontinent. Islam came to India by sea faring traders from Arabia . 2. These are just stories that have nothing to do with faith.
3. No one said that the Companions believed in these stories.
4. Tafsir books do not require the authenticity of all the narrations, they just mention all the sayings they heard.
5. Even if my companion had a wrong understanding of a particular issue, this is not considered an argument against Islam and Muslims, the Prophet (PBUH) is the only infallible one, who was revealed to him in addition to the Qur’an.

For each and every good action or bad action micro or macro happening this world , there is metaphysical connection to the 7 heavens among the world of angels,jinns and humans. So this world is not separate from that biggest domain that includes all what is in 7 heavens. This is something related to the nature of soul or ruh whose true nature known only to Allah. Perhaps Allah explains this in this verse. For every micro or macro good or bad actions in this world ,there is repurcations to the other side of the world hereafter. Every actions has their own levels. This is veiled to us in this world due to temporal collective caprice surrounds all of us in this world and the reality will be unveiled once our soul goes to next world. This is what Allah says. Allah has set his throne at all on its top. Wallahu 'alam.
