The fact that Roblox went out of their way to blow hundreds of thousands of dollars just to target Ruben for merely speaking out against predators will never cease to infuriate me. It really just shows their priority here and its not protecting kids on the platform
The fact that you think they care about anything but our money astounds me. Roblox will do whatever is needed to get what they want. They went public to make money and they make shitty advertisement events.
That's so ridiculous it almost sounds fake, even though it's not. Surely dealing with the pedophiles and other child predators on the platform would take less time and money, right? And formally suing someone would require them to give evidence anyway, so unless they just planned to starve the guy out for cash I don't see why that was the route they went on.
What happened was some stuff rubin sim made some stuff as jokes and Roblox never liked Rubin for doing that. So when vc came out they had a opportunity to cancel him. But Rubin found more information behind the scenes after and what Roblox was hiding now they look bad then they even did before.
No lawyer or company would dare pursue that lawsuit now. otherwise they'll be known as "A company that sued a guy for exposing a pedophile employee" 100% going to get dropped with hopefully some reward.

The only major difference is that back in the 90s, parents could reasonably claim "We didn't know any better". Parents today don't have that excuse anymore.
They never had excuses, in the 90s the authorities wouldn't do jack shit to help people. The only risks they have is being gangraped to death in prison by the inmates who all have an unspoken law to make child-abusing inmates' lives a worse hell than imaginable.

While we should expect companies to take measures to protect our children, we shouldn't depend on them to actually do it; and we should not depend on laws to protect our children. There is an alternative take here. Quite a few self declared "pedo hunters" are themselves very unsavoury. Allegedly, it was a 15-19 relationship and the guy got away with allegedly grooming the child. Allegedly, the creator of the game, Bloxxek, had defended the staff member. No action was taken on Roblox's part to protect the victim or punish the predator. I'd credit that to my vested interest in true crime documentaries as a kid. I also didn't dox myself when I was a kid. I told no one my age or even where I specifically I live.

Its actually kind of sickening when listening to his statements at 6:20 cause if you've ever watched Datelines To Catch a Predator and watched the interrogations its like all pedophiles and predators are reading off a script, they all say the same things, "despite what I said and did I had no actual intentions"
As a roblox player who started in 2013 I can say that this platform has gone down in quality sense 2017. Underpaid devs, letting predators go unharmed, removing any sort of events and sales, and overall making it a corporate wasteland.
@@n646n Every year after 2007 of Roblox was considered the decline. People already said the site went downhill in 2008 after the 'Fleskhjerta' era of Roblox. The reason why 2013 is usually considered the decline of Roblox is because one of the co-founders of Roblox passed away from cancer. In my opinion 2013-2016 was the golden age of Roblox, despite people's nostalgia, 2012 was a dark year for the site. The games page was filled with misleading titles and the same Area 51 and build to survive games. And people Jared Valdez and Julius Coles were thriving from making god awful uncopylocked games. 2013 is when the admins finally got their shit together and started to improve the site while still keeping It's charm. 2017 was the year that lead to the decline of Roblox, It's when the site started to become a corporate hellscape, but it still had quality from the 2016 era, so it wasn't destroyed yet. 2018 is the true downfall though, the only good thing that came from 2018 was the Egg Hunt event. This was the year when the 'simulator craze' started and it would forever haunt the games quality of Roblox for the rest of eternity.
I agree that most parenting in the modern day relies too much on the internet and technology. I grew up in the early 2000's, so the internet was everywhere. Thankfully, my parents were amazing and they didn't allow me on the internet unless it was a website they approved of and i asked them first. They also didn't allow me to have a phone until i was around 15 or 16, which was definitely a good move. I've seen too many people say things to the effect of "i shouldn't have been allowed to be on the internet when i was this age because this traumatized me and really messed me up" No matter how hard companies try, the internet just isn't meant for kids. You can't guarantee their safety online.

I think the quote "the easy road often becomes hard, and the hard road often becomes easy" is very true for Roblox here. They tried to take the easy road, ignoring problems or their site and silencing those who talk about it, but this has lead to them getting a huge amount more backlash than if they just admitted to its faults and attempted to fix them.
roblox has always tried to take the easy road. it's nothing new. roblox is rotten to the core, and always has been, and it's only getting worse by the year. hopefully these sorts of things will bring more awareness to the fundamental issues with roblox, and maybe some change will finally come.

Thank you Charlie for also talking about this and of course, thank you to Ruben and the authorities for putting action into this.

The effort Roblox put into shutting Ruben up when he was trying to expose CHILD PREDATORS on their platform instead of actually doing anything paints the entire company in a shady light.
Woahhh imagine the shock, a company is void of morals and filled with terrible people, couldn't be more surprised personally
There is an alternative take here. Quite a few self declared "pedo hunters" are themselves very unsavoury. At least they're trying to make themselves famous, and their focus tends to be more on their channel and the likes, than on the victims or things such as due process. This could in many cases actually hamper the prosecution more than it helps.

Quick note: As somebody who's seen the victims of this stuff first hand, I'll try to explain that one of the biggest problems they face is how much society treats them like a cancer patient for going through something relatively innocuous. Sure it's not a good thing to happen sure, but reminding them of how "awful" sex is... well it kind of causes more problems than it solves.
@@SherrifOfNottingham Yeah, I agree. If you tell a young, impressionable person how they should feel, instead of listening to their own natural feelings on the matter, it will make them believe their own feelings are wrong and they SHOULD feel traumatized. Thereby making them traumatized. Personally, I’ve gone through several unwanted sexual encounters on the internet when I was younger, and yes, they did make me feel uncomfortable, and I learned from them, but I don’t feel broken for life like some people seem to WANT me to believe. It’s ridiculous. It is a bad thing to go through something like that, however it is not untruthful to say, that trauma can be influenced by others’ opinions of what happened, causing a victim to worry and overthink it. This is especially true for individuals with thought patterns relating to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, as in thinking “Oh they’re worried? Maybe I should be worried…” and then the rumination begins, and the placebo effect takes place, when it wouldn’t have even been there in the first place. Don’t tell people how to think when it comes to their own experiences. It just makes things worse.
They aren't traumatized for life. Stop making the children feel guilty and bad for one mistake they made lol. It was a dumb thing, nothing happened, and now it's over. There's no "trauma" to be had. Saying that just makes you part of the problem.

Allegations came up in 2020 of a former staff member for a game known as The Vibe Cafe, had a document made on them having exhaustive (but limited) evidence on someone who I believe was named Neimoru. Allegedly, it was a 15-19 relationship and the guy got away with allegedly grooming the child. Allegedly, the creator of the game, Bloxxek, had defended the staff member. No action was taken on Roblox's part to protect the victim or punish the predator.
If the allegations are true, Landon is still out there because Roblox enables, and does nothing about predators on their own platform.
