I just completed my first ride with the Brake Free. As some have mentioned, it is a little cumbersome to turn on when the helmet is on your head. I ended up taking off the helmet to turn the unit on. I will post a motovlog soon with more thoughts on the light. The weight of the Brake Free is not an issue at all.
If this is the same device that I saw in another review, the manufacturer said that the light has an auto-off function and will turn itself off automatically if the accerloramoeter detects no movement after a certain length of time. Then, once it detects movement, it will turn itself back on automatically. They also daid that it will remember what mode it was set to if you do turn it off, so when you turn it back on you don't need to fiddle with it tto get back to the setting you set it to.
Once again, this is assuming that this is the same device that I saw another reveiw for.
Along with better UV protection with the newest white version, Brakefree is saying the button has been improved for easier operation, and the IMU has been upgraded
I'm happy to see this being reviewed. I've been running one since May and couldn't be happier with it. I get tons of comments from drivers telling me how visible it is and they all appreciate the extra "visibility" of the brake lights.
This seems so much like a marketing bot comment.
How exactly do drivers come tell you that you're so "visible"
I’m a new rider and my adult sons are overprotective. I also want to focus on being safe on the road. Just installed this on my helmets and I will say very easy to install. The on button could be easier to use, but extra visibility to distracted drivers is a no brainer. I am quite impressed by how well this is made. Ride safe everyone. And for those who say it’s too expensive..:: I will say that personal safety and protecting you and your bike is well worth the money. Truly the cost of this is less than an emergency room co-pay.
Delighted that we were able to introduce you to the Brake Free team and their awesome product. We believe everyone should be riding safer.
I've been using this for a few months now. Don't throw away the template. It's not available on the website and is not provided when ordering replacement mounts. Installation is not that difficult once you've done it once. My only complaint is that the unit is difficult to turn on once you have the helmet on your head, so don't forget to turn on the device before you ride. I think the added lights are a huge help at night. Drivers fall back and keep their distance when I'm using the device. I do notice the added weight on my helmet after a couple of hours of riding.
@@jonathangallmeier5159 I bought mine used and I didn’t get a template. I snapped the mounting bracket on the light and after test fitting, I pealed the backing off of the tape and eyeballed the position of the light. It’s easier to align the whole light than the bracket only. I set the helmet on a soft chair with the light down and the weight of the helmet pushing down on the adhesive pad and let it sit overnight before trying to remove the light from the helmet.
I have used it for 2 years now. Harley 2020 CVO Street Glide. It's great, people definitely notice you more and stay farther back then before. I went from an "organ donor" in my 20s (no helmet, no gear) to now putting this on my full face helmet with full gear. Funny how being 40 makes you figure out mortality. Anyways great product. I highly recommend.
Wait until you hit 60.
@@cruisemansgarage I am in Valley Ranch in Irving. Stones throw from you I believe
I purchased this light for my wife as we ride 2 up. Did a 4000 mile trip to Sturgis and Yellowstone after installing the light. Works great, if a car was approaching from the rear to fast or got to close I would let up on the throttle just enough for the light to come on. I did notice that when ever I was being followed I would say they did stay back a little more overall. Yes they said it has a 8 to 10 hours of charge, we did use up a full charge. We were riding 500+ miles a day so the wife would turn it off if we were stopping for longer periods of time. Overall I would give it a big thumbs up.
Just got mine in the mail, charging it rn and letting the adhesive do it’s thing on my helmet. Looking forward to trying it out. Great set up review btw!
How long was the back order? I just ordered and I’m on a list until they get more inventory…
@@paulfennell01 I don’t think I had a back order, I think I waited maybe one or two weeks though
Brake Free finally has the white version for sale again for those that have white helmets. I've been waiting for the white version for the last year or so
Use discount code CRUISEMAN to save an extra $10. New video coming at 9:00am this morning (CST).
I like the safety , Will be looking into this more, thanks Chris for bringing things to our attention..Be safe..
Very useful safety gadget. What might deter rider from getting this is the weight. More and more riders look for a lite helmets, I just did with HJC 90S Carbon and now with so many carbon out there, adding this might be a minus. However, it is very smart design. Brake Free, make the same thing attached to a safety vest. either by sawing it or some how Velcro it. Or sell the while vest with it. You can make the vest for a Touring bikers or Baggers.
On the Brake Free program! It’s lightweight, sleek and just plain works. It’s cool to be seen, and the sooner the better too. Thanks Cruise.
Getting ready to do a 1 year update.
Hmmmmm…. I’m a thinking outside the box kind if guy and enjoy designing things differently. I’m on my fourth week owning my Wing and did some beautiful reflective tape on my rear. I’m thinking I’d like to 3-D print a filler piece between this unit and my passenger backrest using 3M’s snap-lock tape to secure it. I’ve been searching for weeks for L.E.D. additional brake lights to add with no luck to my tiny non-tourer tail end 🤔
Get some adhesive Velcro to stick to the back of the light molding to fill in the space between helmet/light. Just use the soft side of Velcro if it rattles or is too loose
Quick Tip Cruiseman, when ever you are applying double sided tape, 3M or other, it's always a good idea to activate the sticky part by rubbing your nail or a hard piece of plastic over the cover before revealing the sticky part. By doing this is activates the glue and it will stick much better to what ever you are sticking the tape to. Just a suggestion. Also I would suggest you place a thin piece of foam rubber onto the light to act like a wedge between your helmet and the Brake Free light. I'm sure that would keep the light from moving around after you attach it to your helmet.
Interesting. I will give that a try.
I expected a price of $99us or less. At $170 its a bit over priced. I know “what’s the value of not being rear ended” I just think you need to compare this to other methods of brake light warning devices you can add to the bike.
Agree
I agree, 170 is a no
You guys are screwed up, this literally costs two full tanks of gas for your car. Come on, get real.
Hey Cruiseman, thanks for the product review. As well, showing the "human" side of yourself with your "brainfart" moment and not letting it stop your demonstration. I'm 57 and getting into MC riding for the first time now(late bloomer here). I want to be seen and noticed as I ride on the roads. I just need to find where to order the brake free light from. Will want to get extra mount pads for when I can put the light on other helmets I'd like to get in the future. Doug🏍️👍🤓⭐ keep up the great work!
The gizmo is probably called an accelerometer.
Thanks for the review, I just purchased and used your code to save $10
I think you will love it. Stay safe!
I go back and forth with this. I love it but, I wonder if it feels a bit dorky wearing it. I mean, I know bright zombie green jackets and pants give me way more visibility but, I can’t go there. I think I’ll be getting one though.
I frequently hear reviewers say that they don’t know how it works. It’s most assuredly using a gyroscope/accelerometer. The same thing in our smartphones that react to motions.
All in all, this product is an inexpensive way to be noticed. I find myself tapping the brakes when entering intersections or other busy spots just to hopefully be seen more.
Does anybody else do this: you have a bluetooth headset or perhaps even this BrakeLight but, your USB port is up front. So, I have a lightweight battery pack I keep in my media jacket pocket. I usually use a 3ft USB. This usually triples my power life on such devices. Get a halfway decent one too.
Wait...you mean you're human like the rest of us?!? Great review (so far!), and I'm looking forward to your ride experiences. I assume the device has a G-force sensor of some type, not a potentiometer, that senses the deacceleration. Great idea! I've seen the other types that require something to be wired to the brake system, and that made me decide not to buy it. This may be the one!
Yeah, I don't where potentiometer came from, like a light dimmer. Way off my game!
Great Review!
I have one, have had no issues with it, did have a moto cop pull me over and ask about it, he said he was going to order one for his off duty bike!
BEWARE***This is advertised like it's made in USA, but it's "designed" in USA and made in CHINA. Plus, you can email and make sure that it fits your helmet, but do not trust it. I emailed and asked my Sedici Strada II Parlare and was assured it did. Well, it did not because there is a lip on the back of my helmet above the DOT sticker and it kept the light from laying flat to the surface of the helmet. I'm hoping they will give me a refund.
So the kit only comes with one 3M adhesive clip? What if you want to put it on another helmet? You’re forced to buy new clips
At least they sell additional mounts and don't make you buy a separate light for each helmet.
Inserted music is really ANNOYING and takes away from a good video.
My concern is the rain. I ride nearly everyday n was told by revzilla it may not do well in heavy rain
It appears to be well sealed.
These are great..I would love one !! But they don't ship to Canada....
Looks like a great product except for the rattling part. If you use intercom or bluetooth communications, I'd think that rattling would resonate through the Mic into the comm system. I really want to hear what you think of the rattling while you're making a moto vlog .
I will check for that.
Interesting unit.
Any updates on the sena spider software for the goldwing?
Not yet.
CM, I have friend that recieved a ticket in Mo. state for riding with a helmet without a DOT sticker on her gear. Is this a problem with this product?
Really? That never would have occurred to me.
@@cruisemansgarage Non issue in states like Pa., S.C., Fla, no helmet laws. I wear a helmet and live in a no helmet law state. Just ordered the brake free last night.
💥💥 It comes on when you hit the brakes but what happens once you come to a complete stop at a red light.??
Chances are the vehicle behind you saw you stopping and they are stopped behind you too. That way if another vehicle rear ends them, you have a safety cushion behind you.
Do you think it could be installed vertically
Went to the website, to order one, but its sold out.
I think they have a big shipment coming in soon. Supply chain.
5 minute commercial made into 20 minutes. Whew.
Very cool, but $170 is crazy expensive, so I'm going to pass. $100 maybe, but 170, no.
How expensive it really is, if it can save your life in such a distracted world?!
Skin grafts are more expensive.
How expensive are skin grafts anyway? $170 is just too expensive for what you get. No more than $100.
I paid 160 delivered. It's worth it to me, but might not be for others. Look at all the bikers that do not even wear a helmet out there.
It's been about a year, so do you still use this product or is it in the spare parts bin?
Use it every time I ride.
Welcome to my world …..upside down
Can you charge it with it on the helmet
Probably, I will check to see.
ITS BETTER THEN NOTHING...BUT ITS OVERPRICED LED LIGHT..
Well worth the price if is saves your life. And, I spent $300 on LEDs installed on my bike.
LOL, and you want me to follow your repair guides? LOL! Good thing you didn't stick the mount on upside down!
I guess I could pretend to be perfect.
@@cruisemansgarage No worries Cruiseman, there is always one nimrod commenter in the bunch. I have actually heard some bikers mount it upside down on purpose to see if it responds better to braking.
Too long, too slow bro
Stupid product.. looks cheap’ another toy
Look like Mickey mouse toys
I just bought mine. Quick question. While the unit feels snug I do feel some small movement when connected to the back of the helmet. Is that normal ?
Cruiseman is it normal to feel some slight movement of the break free when attached to the helmet?
Yes, it will wiggle slightly when on the mount. Or, at least both of mine do. I think that is to make it easier to take on or off the mount.
