Hey Chris thanks for spending some time with Scott and helping him out on that job which mean a lot to him since it it is in memory of his son.... You are a true gentleman and friend.. God Bless you both....
Hearing the excavator bogging down a bit while digging got me to thinking about stuff I used to have to deal with when I lived near the coast and that was 'hard pan sand'. Sure it was just sand, but it was packed as hard as concrete, maybe in another few thousand years or so it could be sandstone.
That is going to be an awesome lake when filled, amazing what you can build with sand, that sand looks to be about as clear as you can get. Looking forward to the dam being filled in, thanks for the tag along video sir.
It's been 4 yrs already. Wow time flies. I remember when you came down to there property to give guidance. Then his son was killed. Love to see how it has come full circle. I'm sure his son is looking down on y'all.
We have this stuff from quarries that is like a leftover from sawing and crushing. It's like sand when loose and dry but once it gets wet and packs in it's almost like clay holds water and it's really tough to bulldoze.
As busy as you are Chris with the farm project as well as your own and John's work, it speaks highly of you that you still found a weekend to tow your dozer all that way to help Scott.
Great video bro, it looks a lovely lake already and should look cool when finished and full. The sand on the sides is interesting as it has not moved back into the lake with the movement of the water. Safe travels
A wonderful great Areal, the Pond is new to building, that a beach resort come. That You help by this building is very grand. Glad my of the next Videos.
I'd bet that sand is the type that eventually turns into sandstone, complete with clay and calcite grains or crushed up limestone as the cementing agents. If more of the latter, then the dam will only become more solid as time goes on, as the water dissolves and redeposits them between the sand grains.
Beautiful lake but water looks cold and deep. Will you have enough time to finish the dam? Scott nice dump truck. Your a good friend Chris. Have a good week.
Need one of those HD 31's to fill that breach in, its going to be a big job for that Komatsu to stay ahead of the water level as it rises. On thr other hand a challenge makes life interesting anyway
The last load I hauled with the General was tree length firewood logs from a clearing job in July of 2022.( About 50) cords worth and truck ran flawless ! The Alison transmission has a 10/1 ratio reverse in high range and shouldn't have any issues with bogging down.
Looked like you guys moved a lot of sand there !! And it does look to be really hard, I was watching how close you was to the water in the dozer Chris, and it didn't look to sink any at all ... So it must be pretty stable stuff there .. Scott and his Wife have really got a nice place there, and getting better all the time !! Great to see you guys working together... Great as always Chris !! Have a Great Weekend, And a Great Evening !! And, On too the Next !!
You cannot build a dam from washed sand, however bank sand is a blend of sand and soil. If it is the right soil, say good clay, it will work just as well as full clay at holding water. The one major issue is the overflow. Even the emergency overflow must be hardened. Bank sand will wash pretty much like top soil in a current. So if you properly size the main overflow to keep it off the top of the dam and you make the emergency overflow out of material that protects the bank sand underneath it works very well. From the looks of that stuff it could even be used as a liner for that one you were surveying recently.
a liner hey. i forgot about those. i wonder what a liner would costs for a 10 acre pond. good thought. i was thinking charlie's soil stabilization method with a clay topper. 🤔
Chris keeps looking at the Mode control ,looks as though it's stuck in S mode ,maybe that's Sand mode ,out with the spanners, there must be a flow control that can be manipulated. Isn't he close to Charlie ?the big cat would love to scratch about in there . It certainly will be a great space when the water level is up and having a continuous Sandy beach will be well sought after . Good work Chris
Crazy how hard packed that sand is, looks like its some red clay down in there deep. Was hard to believe sand can hold that much water back and not push thru but then saw the dam is as wide as an interstate and then thought about the ocean lol

At leaxt it doesn't splash and go gloop when he dumps the bucket.
@@kenore4003 That's what I was thinking too. At least sand dries and can be brushed off your clothing.
Scott, probably a bit late now but it wouldn’t hurt investing in a larger smooth edge bucket haha, you could be moving twice the material each bucket
