Having never had the confidence to tackle this job before after watching your video it was a piece of cake. Many thanks.
Excellent tuition, no jargon, straight to the point and very supportive. Brilliant.
No problem.
Diamond Geezer. He's like my favourite Uncle, kind-hearted, humble and helpful. Cheers lovely man.
Thanks Guy.
Someone give this guy a medal.
Best plumbing DIY videos on UA-cam.
Ha ha thanks Buck
Wow! If only all diy videos could be as clear and informative as this film is. The details are brilliant. It fills me with confidence to replace my radiator now. Thanks.
No problem.
Great video, wish all DIY vlogs were as clear and thorough. Thanks very much!
Amazing gentleman that knows what he is talking about. This video helped a lot. Thanks.
Thank you very much for your great video Al. Our radiator started to leak Saturday night and plumbers quoted £220 + VAT per hour. We luckily found your video and managed to stop the leakage. We still need to fix an underlying problem but not as emergency call-out anymore. Highly recommend your video!!!!!!!
this is a great video helped me out big time as I wouldn't have had a clue, now I can paper behind rad no probs, your videos are top class and you make it so easy to follow, keep up the good work and look forward to plenty more
Murdo Mackay Thank you Murdo, i will keep them coming.
Brilliant and straightforward videos. You have already shown me how to fix a leak in my outside tap. Cheers mate!!
No problem.
Brilliant you guys. It's given me the confidence to give it a go. I think Jan must be executive producer of such an excellent video.
Your videos are top notch and must have saved and helped out the average homeowner who watch your posts no end.
Good luck Al and all the very best.
That's the clearest, most comprehensive video I've seen to remove a radiator - thank you! 👍
+John Biggs No problem.
Hi John, I've started my task to empty the radiator, but I've got two rad valves, so do I need to open one or both valves?
Couldn't agree more - this is my "Go to" video every time!
So appreciate guys like you taking time out to make really helpful videos like this. Thank you
No problem Martin.
decorating my bathroom and had no clue how to get around the rad, but thanks to your concise great video you made it so easy for me.
many thanks Al.
No problem Ronnie.
This is my 'go to' how to guide each time I find myself having to remove a radiator for decorating. It's such a well made and explained guide. Thank you.
You're welcome!
Hi mate, this is one of best video explanation I have ever seen.
You are doing great job
Thank you very much.
+Sunny Randhawa no problem
You, my friend, are an absolute legend. Great video
No problem.
I’ve come back to this video twice now when decorating a new house and it’s been superb both times. Extremely helpful thanks.
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much! Your little videos saved me ton of money! I hardly ever need an engineer or a plumber thank to you! Your videos are very clear and ever so helpful. Thank you again!
No problem Agee.
Two things to add: After reconnecting the radiator, make sure the heater is not pumping while opening the valves to the empty radiator, or tons of air will enter your whole system. And check the pressure gauge on the heater and refill as needed, because the system just lost one radiator worth of water.
I think after reconnect the radiator, should open the valve for bleeding the radiator (top right in the video) and the valve with the thermostatic valve (bottom left) which allow the water inside the radiator, while keep the valve in the bottom right shut, otherwise the air will pump in the sistem. When the air is all out can open the right valve so start the normal flow.
Not sure where can top up the water back into the sistem (the one that being lost from taking out the radiator in first place), that's why I'm reading the comments
@@Scirokko Most combi type boilers have a top up valve on the boiler to do this.
@@Scirokko didn't he do that tho?? Sure I remember seeing air coming out of there
LA LA I know that you wrote this a year ago, but for future reference and for anyone else alarmed by “Richard’s” dramatic response, please don’t worry! I’ve removed and replaced about four radiators since learning from this very video. The only thing might be to reintroduce the pressure back into the system via the boiler, I’m sure Al’s probably already done a video on that. Don’t listen to the drama queens though 🙄 Good luck!
_Disclaimer, only get a plumber in if you’re _*_really_*_ not confident following this technique, or if you have inadequate tools for the job._
@@Scirokko most boilers will allow you to top up the pressure at the final stage like bleeding radiatiors. Repeat as necessary.
Jan is getting good at this :P
All the best
Thanks so much for this video! My bedroom radiator has been coming off the wall for awhile and I finally tackled it today thanks to your video. Much easier than I thought. Turned out whoever installed it had just used screws straight into the wall, no rawlplugs, no wonder it was falling off! Thanks again for giving me the know how to sort it
No problem Hazel.
Done mine today for first time ever, so watched a few of these videos to get it right. This one was the best, with clear and straightforward advice. Thanks very much.
No problem
Excellent Video! Made my job a lot easier. Many thanks!
+Steven Hunter No problem. Al.
Lovely vid. A pleasure to watch. Thanks to the both of you.
Thanks just what I needed as doing a house refurb. Can't belive it's been 7 years since you uploaded this. It's good to see you are still active 😊 stay healthy.
Thanks will do.
I always appreciate people like you. Please keep up the outstanding work. You just saved me time and money. Many thanks and God bless.
No problem Harris.
Really good video mate - very clear and well explained; thank-you!
+Popandu No problem. Al.
Great video, really helped me out changing a rad today.
No problem Bob.
Learned on a painting & decorating course how to remove a radiator from a wall prior to decorating, only problem was that being such a long time ago I'd forgotton how. Your clear and concise video was a great refresher on how to do the task. Excellent.
+Andrew Armour No problem.
I downloaded this video about a year ago and your "how to" worked.... Finally put rad back on today and thought I would drop by to thank you.. So Thanks! This imo is the best "how to remove a radiator" video on UA-cam..
Thanks for your kind comments.
Thanks a lot! Paid a guy £50 to do the last one. This time did it myself with the aid of your vid. Nice work, loving the camera work and commentary too ;)
+antkelly85 No problem. Al.
Absolutely brilliant video! Thank you!
Just spent the day wallpapering my daughters room and yes, behind the radiator too! This video was a great help, so clear and thorough. Thank you so much, will be back for more tips!
No problem Ben.
So happy I've found this channel. I'm renovating my home myself and haven't got a clue, so this is great for me. Thanks!
No problem SJP
Excellent. Very well explained with useful hints and tips. Many thanks......
These DIY videos are priceless - thank you.
What I would say though, in this video, the radiator and fixture and fittings are all newish.
When I tried this on mine a few years back, on an old system, I had a job getting a water tight seal on the unions when I reassembled.
I eventually did using some mastic but the threads were worn so something to look out for.
Glad you like them!
Hi Al. I know this is an older video but, once again, I just wanted to say thank you for all your advice on this channel. Our house is 15yrs old and our double panel, Type 21, radiator wasn’t getting hot in the front panel. Things have been chilly over last winter in our Lounge. I tried Fernox F3 cleaner to no avail. Then I removed the radiator and gave it a blast with our garden hose - no joy, sadly. Today, having finished redecorating, I connected up the new radiator and all is good. Your videos have given me the confidence to tackle these jobs and do them well - no leaks whatsoever at the first refill. We have found it so easy that we’ve also replaced the other radiators on the ground floor of our house so that they all match and are pure white. Thanks again. My next plumbing project is to prepare for our washing machine being moved into our integrated garage prior to tackling the big one, the Kitchen refit. You’re a superstar and your guidance is helping us all save money on these repairs and projects at a time when the cost of living is reminding me of life in the 1970s! Best wishes.
Thanks David for all your kind comments, so pleased I could help you out and help you save some money.
Perfect video. Clear, no fluff, no nonsense and taught me everything I needed to know. Thankyou!
No problem James.
worthwhile once the radiator is off taking it outside and cleaning it out with a water hose allowing the water to exit at the other side until clear
Great video, just what I needed
Mate I've been using this video on and off for the past five years taking various radiators off just gives me enough confidence to do it myself and a way to remember when I forget! Thanks pal 👍
Great to hear!
Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom; between checking your channel & getting my brother's advice once I re-pressured the system, that's my first successful attempt in my own flat. Cheers!
No problem Zaki.
Removing the side and top covers makes it easier to hold... Slipping two old plastic cards between the unions before you lift stops them from catching...the lock shield should be opened the same number of turns it took to close it to preserve the balance... And you will probably have to let more water into the system via the filling loop of its a tankless system...
Brillant, just found some wall paper from the early 80s!
No problem
Wow thanks for the brilliant instructions I followed them to the letter and tackled a job I've avoided for more than 30 years until today, it went flawlessly thanks to you
Ha ha thanks. Great name by the way.
I've used your video numerous times now when decorating, clearest example I've seen.
Thanks Scott.
just saved me £120,cheers mate, very straight forward video
lol Dunno which I like best with this video... The great radiator advice, or the pug wearing sunglasses in the bowl (Just after the 10 minute mark)
Great video sometimes easier to take side panels and top panel off radiator makes it easier to pick up
Lovely 'How To' video and presentation. Very informative, and in layman's terms that anyone can understand. I was delighted to find this video. Thank you so much for this invaluable information dereton33; and of course to the very helpful extras from your wife. :)
I was fitting some skirting boards and had to take the rads off, and thanks to you I did it seamlessly. Thank you my friend, I now have another string to my bow. Top man.
Great job!
Have a wet & dry vacuum cleaner to hand to catch water as it runs out. (Make sure it is a wet and dry!)
Such a good video, thank you.
What a very concise and informative video. Can't believe it never got boring at over 13mins long, the time just flew by.
Must be my charm. Ha ha.
Thanks for your great video. I had never really had cause to remove radiators in the past, but found that I needed to. I was a bit apprehensive about doing so! Now, I have removed and replaced two; one small and one large with no problems. Thanks a lot; I hope others have the confidence to do so too.
That`s no problem Ray, pleased you sorted it ok.
You also usually have to remove the trv top and replace it with the service cap or it goes into freeze mode and will still open and allow water to flow out.
thanks very helpful, only problem i have now is persuading the wife to allow me to do it
David Clark Hahaha so true. But you're not a plumber. You'll flood the whole house and we'll have to move back to my parents she said lol
i think i'll give it a miss in that case living with the in laws wouldn't be worth trying to get it fixed
David Clark lol
LilBiPotato do it when she's out of the house, as I'm doing it at this right moment when he's away the weekend hahaha
You have just saved me a shed load of money - cant thank you enough for loading this video. HUGE help! Thank you
No problem.
This video gave me the confidence to go and take my radiator off to fit skirting board behind it. Brilliant !! Thank you.
No problem.
When fitting the radiator back into place would it not have been better to open the thermoststic valve side BUT keep the other side closed so that the air that is now inside the radiator doesn't get pumped into the central heating system?
Keep the valve closed, open the theromststic valve and bleed all the air out with the key. Wait for water to come out at the top. Top up the system from the boiler then open the valve on the other side of the radiator . My 2pence worth!
Any air would come out of an auto air vent.
If the heating is on the water coming out maybe a touch warm 😂
No need to ask how I found this out
Paul Reason tbf he said doesn’t matter if it’s on or off while you take it off...meaning at the time it doesn’t matter. If you’ve left the radiators on then obviously the water will be hot 😂
I just wanted to add my thanks for posting such a useful video. I told my dad I was removing the radiator in my bedroom when decorating and I am sure he has been expecting a call for him to come and fix it for me. I haven't had to call him but did send some pictures of my handy work
Glad it helped
Absolutely brill , this was amazing, so easy to understand - my sister and I not afraid to replace old one ourselves - Cheers Al
No problem Linda.
Thank you so much.
Such a clear guide gave me the confidence to tackle this myself and it was a simple as you’ve shown!
I’ve now managed to rescue my iPhone and AirPods that were trapped behind and saved myself some money!
Great sense of achievement!
Keep up the good work! 😊👍🏾👍🏾
You're very welcome!
Great video, very clear instructions and well presented. Doesn't miss any of the steps. Saved me calling plumber out when re-plastering a wall. Thank you.
You're welcome!
Absolutely brilliant. so perfectly explained and videod. I especially appreciated the tip about not having to worry about the heating being on. I was worrying about that so now I can take my radiator off no problem. thanks
No problem.
Great video again Derek and Jan. Thank you for the calm way you explain it all. It sort of takes the terror of it all away!! Have a good Christmas!
Happy Christmas to you too Pam.
Just changed my first radiator, thanks to this great video. Thank you so much for the clear easy to follow content 😀
No problem Joel.
Thank you so very much mate.
Iam doing some DIY at home and planning to tackle the Rads is part of my plans. Trouble is until I watched your step by step I did not have a clue. Not anymore ! Keep it up buddy. Your videos in my opinion are priceless.
Glad I could help
Thank you, you've just probably saved me approx. £130 in plumbers expenses to remove and reinstall two Radiators as I decorate my living room.
Thankyou ever so much sir - your clarity and communication are the best I've seen and was so simple to follow even a mug like me could follow ! You've saved me time and money and I really appreciate your expertise.
No problem Mark.
you're amazing! this was so informative and detailed. it's probably one of the best how to videos for home maintenance I've come across!
Thanks for your kind comments jeffreypigion.
Thanks for this. This is by far the best explanation of the process I have found. I was dreading lifting a radiator full of water.
You're welcome!
Replaced my first radiator today, single panel for a double panel double convector. Thanks for posting this video it really helped.
No problem.
Outrageously useful video, I would not have dared to try this without your assistance. As it turned out your advice (and genial bedside manner) made it trivially easy, thank you very much.
No problem
Thank you for taking the time to post this video. Managed to replace a leaking radiator for the first time :)
+mintyfreshpenguin . No problem.
Superb video! Need to remove a radiator for decorating.. turns out my biggest spanner isn't quite big enough for the job (story of my life!) so I'll get a new one tomorrow. But massive thanks for taking the time to explain this in a video that's so easy to understand.
No problem
You the man! Our plumber quoted us £325 to do this to 3 radiators. I thought that was a bit much! Just did them with the help of my mum, easy peasey! Thanks so much ❤️❤️
No problem Emily.
Can't thank you enough for this video and your other video of changing the drain off valve. Done them both and mega pleased with myself. So much detail in your videos
Glad it helped
Brilliant- thanks 😃 felt really confident tackling this job. And it works! Radiator back on - no leaks and decorating done ✅
Great job!
Thank you for this upload. Quoted £150 to take radiator off wall for decorating then £150 to put it back on!! Watched your video and I managed it myself without any problems. A massive a THANK YOU! 👍🏼👍🏼
+TheNichols97 . No problem , pleased you managed it Ok.
watched the video very helpful indeed. Emailed Al with a question and his reply was both quick and informative. The guy deserves to do well in his trade, thanks so much
No problem.
Thank you, very clear instructions, my radiator is now removed with no mess and very little effort. Brilliant video. ❤️
No problem.
My Worksop, Notts., UK, friend just e-mailed me this to show me what he was going to do to his living room radiator so he can wallpaper behind it. Great explanations. You were not fooling about that black water at the bottom.
+Joe Kersey It sure is black and mucky.
I am a newbie to house renovation so I found this very helpful, thank you! :)
No problem Steve.
These videos are ace. I just removed a radiator with no water spillage thanks to this video. Cheers dereton33
No problem Neil.
This, and a few other of his vids, have just saved me. Radiator was weeping, and i was going to wait until weekend to sort it, when the heating comes on at home when i get in, and the endcap starts to fountain. Total failure! Thank you so much!!!
No problem.
Great, clear and informative video. Thank you. I need to replace 12 rads that are over 20 years old and full of crap. I'll be doing this by myself in the spring, saving a fortune on labour bills. Again. Thanks.
No problem.
I was very nervous about doing this but you have explained it so simply even I understood it. Successfully removed the rad and papered behind. Thank you so much, keep up the good work.
No problem
My sitting room radiator makes a constant humming or kettle noise which is annoying , however can I follow your instruction and replace my entire old radiator please .
Great explanantion, 1000 times better than all Dutch versions I could find! Many thanks!
You're very welcome!
Great video, you always make me feel at ease doing these jobs. Thanks Alan
No problem David.
Very useful demonstration. Thank you for taking the time to make the video.
Very clear and precise video to help with this task, one watch and was able to do it myself with very little spillage. Thank you so much!
You're very welcome!
Totally brilliant. Easy to follow and no steps skipped. Thanks so much. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Glad it helped!
Covered everything I needed to know. My wall radiator is from the 80's and everything was still relevant. Thanks.
Plumbing never changes.
Great tips. This is probably standard for most plumbers but for people without that knowledge it's great.
That is about right.
Thanks chap. Watched a few videos on alternative radiators. Yours hit the spot in no time. Cheers
No problem Graham.
Thank you. Explained so clearly and I now realise my previous mistakes.
Just removed a rad with your help!! Used plumbers up until now but thought we would give it a go before some plaster work. Granted the rad was new so no scary faulty valves which we already experienced before ( up a whole night mopping up the flow) Informative video. Just need to refit it now!!
Glad it helped!
