  • There's only one thing more mighty than a Jingles, and that's two Jingles. Or one Royal Marine. Ok, that's three things. Damn.

I noticed that ,when you saw the portrait of Earl Mountbatten, you immediately removed your cap as a mark of respect. That was very considerate.

I know this is an old video, but I just want to clear something up.
The reason that the Royal Marines have the globe as their cap badge, is because we had won that many Battle Honours, there was not enough room on the corps colours to place them, so they were given the globe to represent all the Battle Honours we had won, with Gibraltar being the most prominent.

Jingles, thanks for these videos. I am not the kind of person hat would search UA-cam for military museum videos, but since they are on your channel, why not watch them. It turns out, I thoroughly enjoy them. Keep them up!

Jingles, if your travels ever find you at Hawaii, you have GOT to try the Aviation Museum of the Pacific at Pearl Harbor. The hanger where they house the Post-WWII craft and the Under Restoration craft has an amazing diorama of Midway.

This is a really good series Jingles, makes me remember my Granddad telling me about when he landed on D-Day with the Lord Lovat and the Commandos as the first wave on Sword Beach. Thanks Jingles and I wish my granddad was still around to say thanks too :)

The Carcano carbine was the first small arm that I fired. There were about a dozen surplus rifles and carbines used that day. Not having a guide rib for the bolt, Carcanos are quite clunky when operated with live ammo. Empty, it was smooth and quick, but a chore to operate when a full clip is inserted. SMLE was my favorite that day. It weighed a lot more, but held more rounds, was easier to cycle and was nearly idiot proof.

I had the pleasure of getting to know a Royal Marine - Terry Vaughan, whom you may have seen on History Channel's Top Shot. A wonderful man, very kind and positive - but I never had a doubt he could break me over one knee without breaking a sweat.
I wish I'd thought to ask him what instrument he played.

Royal Marines or U.S.M.C., Marines are special, rugged, clever war fighters who deserve respect. While justly feared, it is remarkable how many lives they save every year by their quick and selfless actions. Honor is much more than a word to these individuals.

I think read somewhere that the British during the Falklands War mostly used a semi automatic version of the FAL(L1A1 SLR), while the Argentines used a fully automatic version(though the recoil of the 7.62 round was quite noticeable on full auto).

00:03 The Royal Marine Commandos seem to have all the best-looking memorials; the Commando Memorial near Spean Bridge, Scotland, is fantastic as well. (Though I reckon the Scottish Rifles Memorial in Glasgow is the best-looking - like something off the front of a "Commando" comic!)

If you ever fire a no.5 jungle carbine, Jingles, you'll retract your 'little girl's gun' statement; same round as the no.4, but being fired from a significantly smaller, lighter rifle. The damn thing kicks like a bloody mule, even with the rubber butt. The SMLE and No.4 are beautifully balanced, accurate rifles, but the no.5 is a vicious little club by comparison.

No luck needed just a bloody minded refusal to give up no matter how hard it gets, and it gets bloody hard. Train until you are ready to drop then get up and go another 50% harder than before. Learn to just put one foot in front of the other and continue to do that no matter what and you will be ok. They like to play mind games but as long as you just say to yourself, if that guy can do it so can I, and believe it, you will do well and maybe, just maybe, get a green beret at the end.
