I love your videos but I'd love it if instead of just listing shampoo, conditioner etc, you could actually list the specific products. It makes it so much easier when shopping in store having a quick pic of what I need to buy.
I’ve been trying the three product routine and I was so surprised how well that worked. I need to use a really nourishing shampoo but otherwise with a solid conditioner and a moisturizing gel my hair doesn’t need a ton of other products! Hope you’re able to find a way to simplify your routine too!
You don't really need many products, if they're good quality and suitable for your hair. I do shampoo, conditioner, foam and gel, but gel only can work, too.
Honestly, I thought my hair was straight but annoying my entire life. My hair is basically the same texture as yours and looks just like yours when air dried. If someone had told me my hair was naturally wavy/curly earlier, it would have made my life SOOOO much better.
I was using the Closed Captioning around 9:38 instead of "Squish to Condish" it read "squish chicken dish" So I will be laughing the next time I make chicken with cream sauce.🍗🤣🤣🤣
Courtney, you were the only one I could find on UA-cam who featured "wavy" hair and how to care and style wavy hair it when I first began my journey. So thankful to have found you. Among your many videos, you have always been consistent and balanced in demonstrating "drug store" type products and "higher end" products. One small change in this video would be to invest in a true silk pillow case and not a satin one. Satin pillowcases are usually polyester and hot to sleep on.
Glad I am not the only person that loves Prell shampoo. Love the scent and how clean it gets my hair when I need to reset my hair. I like the matching conditioner too, but I have to order it online. They are great cheap products that really work well on my super curly, easily dried out, hair and very sensitive scalp.
Almost 6 months into my curly hair journey after a lifetime of coloring and straightening and already can tell a HUGE difference in my hair. Your videos have been a God send with this journey. Thank you 🥰
I remember Prell from my youth. When Suave changed the formula for their Clarifying Shampoo, I started using the Prell as my clarifier. It works like a charm.
I really like the Neutrogena Scalp Therapy Scalp Build Up Shampoo with Salicylic Acid & Apple Cider Vinegar. It really gets all the build up off and keeps my roots looking clean longer. It's an awesome drug store clarifying shampoo!
I love wearing my hair curly instead of just leaving it straight! Of course, it takes a lot more effort. I'd love to see you try a Target or Freddy's curly girl beginner shopping list! A full updated diffusing video would be cool to see. On a different note, last year my hair was incredibly low porosity and I couldn't hold my style to save my life. Since I got my hair highlighted it has absorbed product a lot better but I hope my hairdresser didn't leave the bleach in for too long. She did double book that day.
Used for years Herbal Essences Totally Twisted shampoo and conditioner until they took it off market. Ugh! So many waves and curls. Now Shea and H.E. curl definer or H,E. tea tree clarifier,H.E. Tousle me softly mousse. I wash at night, air dry, sleep on cotton pillow case. I spray water on hair in the morning, ringlets, curls, waves appear. So easy. Can go days without washing😊
Courtney, So many of us cannot use coconut oil as it reacts on our hair. Would love to see a few videos using coconut free products. This would be so appreciated.
The struggle is real. Mine just goes wherever it wants to. In the summer, halo head. I can't get it to stay DOWN! LOL The gray also does not like product. Less is more with it. Total new learning curve.
I agree - gray hair is different. My gray hair coming in is coarse and the rest of my hair is not. Definitely a challenge to figure out products and application.
9 months into my wavy / curly hair journey. I am finally liking my hair on a constant basis. Love this video! Could you do one with Sally's products? Thanks!
I finally found my perfect drying routine! I noticed in the past that if I go straight to diffusing after using my products ( 10-in-1 priming spray, LUS leave in for wavy hair, and Verb foaming gel followed by a generous spray of hair spray) it tends to soften up my cast too much. But if I air dry for about 30 to 45 min and let that really hard cast form then go in with the diffuser, I get way better results!! I get hardly any frizz at all and it takes no time to diffuse. Then I scrunch out the crunch with my Verb ghost oil and OMG it makes my hair so soft and shiny and bouncy. I got 3 compliments randomly from people this week on my hair and prior to that I probably hadn't gotten compliments like that since I was in my early 20s lol. I'm 41 now and my hair looks the best it ever has. Thank you so much for inspiring me to wear my natural wavy/curly hair. I watch a ton of curly girls but your videos and Manes by Mell have inspired me the most to do my current routine. My hair feels amazing and I just can't stop wanting to touch it and look at it lol.
I tried this. WOW!! It took about 1/3rd of the time. I've only been on this curly journey for a couple of months but I had my best wash day ever. I also tried curling cream with soaking wet hair, then moose with wet, and gel with damp. I'm not sure if it was a result of the product order or the drying method or both but either way, I have a new styling routine.
Oils in my conditioner and curl cream weighed down my hair too much and I lost my curls after a few hours.. I’m about to start using a conditioner with no oils specifically for wavy hair. Im also going to try a mousse to finish my routine as I really need the extra hold!
Thanks completely to you (!!!), I have gone from super straight hair to hair that was wavy/frizzy--had no idea of what to do with it, must have been a menopausal change --to transition hair, which you encouraged me to live through. I kept learning from you and don't have things 100% yet (still some frizz issues. But the ability to wash my hair every 10 days if I'm having a bad chronic Illness week (sadly, you know about that), and have it still look ok till the tail end of that has been HUGE. CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH, COURTNEY!!! 🎉
Could you do a video on root clipping for root volume? I would love to hear your thoughts on it. I want to try root clipping but I haven't seen how to do it with wavy hair.
I felt like you at the beginning! I thought my hair was "straight", and that i had misbehaving pieces at my temples (my devil horns LOL). My hair wasn't straight, but i wouldn't even have called it wavy back then. I knew that humidity made some pieces really curly, but the length, hair dyes, brushes and cheap shampoos made my hair bleah.
I’ve started using a variation of this lineup, and it reinforces that I have curls! I cannot recommend the products that you chose more because they are a good baseline of products to get you started AND if you don’t love one or two products you can swap them out! I’m currently in the process of swapping out the conditioner because it seems to aggravate my scalp, and I just went and grabbed the not your mother’s styling products. They are ✨amazing✨.
You are so adorable! I've been going back to my curly routine. I get alot of compliments and I'm surprised honestly! Right now I'm using the VERB products. I really like them!
Thank you for all you do! Today was hair washing day for me and my curls look their best yet! Using a lot of your tips and tricks have really helped me on this journey. You’re awesome!
Thanks so much. Had curly hair about 10 years ago. Never used products. But i tried other things for a less curly style. Boy was that a mistake! Now im trying to get them back. The one in the very back are great. Not the rest of it though.
I Never figured out how to do a blowout. I never figured out how to style my hair. Beyond slick back ponytails. Until I found you during the pannini if I’m 100% honest. your hair type and mine are very similar and I started following your recommendations and doing what you suggested and I am absolutely over the moon in love with my hair is today and on a good day it Can look like a 3A it is a 2B at the most. but good products curl training, maybe finger coiling, what have you. plenty of different suggestions and guidance from you over the years. You have led me to adoring not only how I look but my hair on a regular basis Thank you!!!!❤
Thank you Courtney. I am always amazed at how different hair can be. The difference in yours between air drying (product free) and diffusing is enormous. Mine is much more wavy when air drying but refuses to clump as much as yours when diffusing.
Thanks for this. I've been doing curly girl since like 2009ish. And I still struggle. Big bucks on big name products that always don't want to work! Except recoil. But that's a summer only thing for me. I'm tired of big bucks flying out the door...time to try new things!
I recently just tried out the aussie miracle moist shampoo and it is amazing $3 bucks has only two sulfates and the rest are plant ingredients and super moisturizing my scalp has been so incredibly happy.
Thank you so much for this!! I'm going to go get a sheet of notebook paper and watch again. 🤣 My curls DO look better today because I used my hair dryer on low with my hair laying on the seat of a chair so I could gently dry it with the weight off my hair.
I have lots of fine wavy curls. I've found that both a micro fiber towl and a tshirt blows out my ends when micro plopping..no matter how much gel is in my hair. As weird as it sounds, the only thing that works for me to get the excess water out...paper towels. Lol
My hair HATES Suave, which is a shame because it's so affordable. I've tried that shampoo and their volumizing one with the same results. I also have that brush, lol! It's a wet and dry brush so it's not as gentle. I use a true wet brush and the one you bought when i gently dry brush. It works really well.
Okay... so... keratosis pilaris. Extra keratin buildup around the hair follicles. I thought it was only happening on my arms and legs, but oh boy was I wrong - it is on my scalp too. I already have thin hair, so deep exfoliation frightens me a bit. There are some shampoo products out there manufactured for this problem, but I have not found any that are curly girl friendly. Thoughts? I do not want to overstrip my hair and put it in a frenzy to create more grease and/or keratin. When I exfoliate my arms and legs, I need to put on a lot of lotion afterwards because they are so dry. I am thinking the same would go for my scalp... meaning if I add moisture, I will have the flat hair because it is thin. I would rather have flat hair then feel all of the little bumps on my scalp though!!!
I have the Conair Infinitipro and it cost about that but I haven't quite figured it out yet. I've been air drying until now. My hair is really thick. Any suggestions? And do you hover diffuse, pixie diffuse or both?
I think this routine would weigh down/over condition my hair, at least right now. After about 6 months of doing more moisturizing products (gels, mostly) I no longer can use a conditioner and moisturizing gel at the same time. I use garnier clean gel, super basic. I also think I need to avoid coconut oil in general. I also have to be cautious of using too many oil containing products in general. My hair has not seen heat since starting and its super fine. Porosity might be changing for me.
This stuff would be too heavy for me too I have very tight waves , but they are fine and fragile, and I also can get a lot of buildup if i use heavy product. Shea moisture and all that definitely caused build up and felt very heavy. You have to use what works for you
Couldn't you use a little baking soda added to the shampoo in your hand when you wash your hair in place of a sulfate shampoo? And deep condition afterward. Just wondering if that would be an option.
I appreciate your videos so much! They have helped me so much in attempting to have healthier hair and bring out my hidden waves. I have been wondering about heat protectant. I usually diffuse, but I very easily frizz, so i've not even dared to use medium heat. I actually have the exact blow dryer and diffuser you used in this video! Every time i diffuse my hair I wonder if I'm damaging it. Before trying the wavy/curly techniques, i would always use heat protectant before blow drying or straighening, but I was also using much more heat. I've not heard anyone in the wavy/curly discussions mention using heat protectant, so i was wondering about your thoughts on whether diffusing can damage your hair and the use of heat protectant. I don't even know if there are heat protectants out there that would be good for hair.
Thank you for this video! Such a great idea to help people out. I am learning so much from your videos and they are so helpful. I am so glad that Walmart has such great options for curly hair at different price points. My favourite location is worth the trip because it's always well stocked with all the good brands I can't find elsewhere. I'm so finding good curly hair approved products at Winners(I'm in Canada) and Marshalls too and it's nice to find good products for less money.
Love this video! I really like the Not Your Mother's Curl Cream, however it is the only curl cream I've ever tried. Are there any other ones at Wal-Mart that are as good or better for wavy hair?
Do you wash out that gel? Or leave in? I currently use a curl cream, not a gel. I also leave my hair to dry overnight. I have really fine hair (thanks to all the cancer treatments-but hey I’m still here) so it literally will dry overnight in a bun. When I take it down in the morning, the inside might be a bit damp but dries within a half hour, literally. It just works for me. Is that bad? Not using a dryer?
Thanks so much for this video!!! I’m so glad to have you and your product/ingredient knowledge. I’m so frustrated - I bought Carol’s Daughter black vanilla shampoo and conditioner and both said silicone, parabin and sulfate free. I have been using them for five months assuming they were curly girl friendly. Today in the shower, I was reading the directions to see how long I could leave the conditioner on my hair as it’s super dry right now…and I glanced at the ingredients only to find both dimethicone and amodimethicone!!! This seems like completely false advertising and now I need to clarify, deep condition and find a new product while traveling on the road. I can’t believe I missed this - but I guess I should have read beyond the front of the bottle :-( Any thoughts on what to use for super dry hair that needs a regular, heavy moisture routine and is price sensitive. I really want to stick to curly girl approved products so I can minimize clarifying since it really seems to strip my natural oils. Thanks for any advice you may have!
Anytime you wash your hair and feel like styling it. You could do it zero times a week if you felt like it. Or you could do it every time you chose to wash your hair. It is up to you!
Just to clarify... you purchased a satin pillow case and looked at satin hair ties. Satin (poly, acetate, etc) is very similar to silk satin, but the textiles do have some important differences, especially when being used long term. If you can afford a silk satin pillow case, it makes all the difference in the world. Every person I have gifted one to (including my step-mom, who rolled her eyes because she interpreted it as "fancy" and she has an "anti-fancy" esthetic) has been effusive in the praise for how much better it is than satin (well... except my step mom, who was sleeping on the cotton/poly blend pillow case that came with their sheets -- which may partially explain why she saw such a difference).
that pillow case says satin, not silk. Silk tends to feel dry, and satin is slick and shiny. Looking forward to trying some new products. I have one piece at my left front that has totally lost its fuel
Sulfates are the only thing that work on my daughter's hair and it really sucks that everything has coconut in it now :( We still need sulfate shampoos
I use Dove Coconut and Hydration Shampoo. It contains Sodium Laureth Sulfate which is a less harsh sulfate than Sodiim Lauryl Sulfate or Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate. It is not clarifying, but does clean well on an everyday basis.
Embracing my wavy hair really boosted my self confidence, that surprised me! Also I never realised how healthy my hair could look before I tried out curly methods. I am not a pure curly girl method follower but what I changed has really increased the health of my hair. My Waves are looking better and better for each month passing but it’s a learning curve.
I just bought a dryer and diffuser. Maybe new tools will motivate me to diffuse rather than air dry! 😊 I hair stylist is really knowledgeable about wavy curly hair. She knew exactly how to layer my hair to maximize my waves. I showed her the Wet brush I bought to develop curl clumps, and I found it not to work well. She said, "Of course not! With your hair, you need to invest in a Denman brush!" Courtney, please consider reviewing Amika wavy/curly styling products? My stylist says her wavy/curly clients love the power hour curl refreshing spray, curl corps gel, and curl corps cream. I am interested in your assessment. Amika has shampoo and conditioner, but I do not know what to try. Just said a prayer for you and yours. He is Risen!
Courtney, before you started styling curly, did hair stylists tell you that you had curly hair when they washed it as part of a cut? I look at your hair and it seems less curly than mine when wet, and it's definitely less wavy then mine when it air dries. But my hair isn't quite as curly as yours after diffusing, and no where near as curly by the end of the day. My curly hair stylist is similarly frustrated every time she cuts and styles it she can't figure out what's happening, other than to say that maybe I just have too much hair.
That is ridiculous. Having too much hair does not prevent it from going curly. I have a huge mop of hair and as much as I would like it to dry straight it will dry wavy. If I diffuse it it will dry curly.
My hair is very curly when wet but dries wavy and by the end of the day it’s quite straight it is however quite long and all one length I’m wondering if I should get some long layers put in. If I diffuse it my hair goes much straighter than if I leave it to air dry I’m so confused with my hair at times
@@TASIAawful1 🤣 Your curls do the opposite. Long layers would help hold the weight of your curls and might make them last longer. Under no circumstances allow them to thin out your hair with thinning shears. It will ruin your curl clumps. And really interview potential hairdressers. Find one who know how to cut curls and long hair. Unfortunately most do not and just want to chop length off. And you may also try a curl enhancing spray. For me it makes my wavy curls into spiral curls. Good luck!
We always see videos from you where you end up with a great (or at least pretty decent) hair day. Surely not all products work that well for you. How about showing some where the products just don't work at all?

Love wearing my hair curly instead of fighting it. But I don't enjoy how many products and time it takes to get it there.
Oh MAN…..I couldn’t agree more!!
Agreed 😅
Me too xxx ❤

Gurlllll you are a blesssingggg I got my curls backkkkk (had them when I was a baby) and girlll just did this routine once I got them back
Ok that looks like my wet brush. But mine just slides thru my hair.
A quick FYI...those very same silk hair ties that you showed are at the Dollar Tree. Just got a pack of 3 and love them! =D
Glad I am not the only person that loves Prell shampoo. Love the scent and how clean it gets my hair when I need to reset my hair. I like the matching conditioner too, but I have to order it online. That's awesome!
I went through a traumatic event, which I’m still recovering from. Last year I cut my hair and now have a pixie cut. It’s very freeing.
I remember Prell from my youth. When Suave changed the formula for their Clarifying Shampoo, I started using the Prell as my clarifier. It works like a charm.
Seeing your air dried hair helps me so much as mine has looked similar for decades! Thank you for sharing your routines with us.
Thank you,,,, loving my hair much more now that I'm embracing my curl and like you, Walmart is really my only option.
Yes please on the diffuser routine!
I really like the Neutrogena Scalp Therapy Scalp Build Up Shampoo with Salicylic Acid & Apple Cider Vinegar. It really gets all the build up off and keeps my roots looking clean longer. It's an awesome drug store clarifying shampoo!
Scrunching out the cast with bare dry hands makes frizz though..It's better to lightly mist hands or a tee shirt and then scrunch it out.
I love wearing my hair curly instead of just leaving it straight! Of course, it takes a lot more effort. I'd love to see you try a Target or Freddy's curly girl beginner shopping list! A full updated diffusing video would be cool to see.

I can't believe my old friend PRELL got a shout out! When I was in high school this was the go to for stripping out a bad Manic Panic situation.

Gray hair has given me a twist to the curly hair routine… it’s a new thing…. Gray hair is different.
I have about 60% gray hair and mine is the same as before-baby fine. Wish it was coarser 🤣
Yes. Where I'm totally gray, my hair is less curly. Also much more dry or something. I'm having to rethink my entire hair routine lately.
The struggle is real. Mine just goes wherever it wants to. In the summer, halo head. I can't get it to stay DOWN! LOL The gray also does not like product. Less is more with it. Total new learning curve.

"During the pannini" I am going to steal that 🙂
@razia6046 I stole it from Emily D. Baker
I have that same dryer and I think it works really well even though I have a ton of hair.

Would love for you to go to Ulta and get you Curly Wavy starter pack. Also would love to see your diffuser routine. Great video girl!
Would love to see you do a one brand wash day with the Dove Amplified Texture line!
is there any chance you could give us a wavy hair starter pack with products from europe?

I am thinking the same would go for my scalp... meaning if I add moisture, I will have the flat hair because it is thin. I would rather have flat hair then feel all of the little bumps on my scalp though!!!
I think the Shea Moisture Anti-Dandruff Shampoo with Apple Cider Vinegar & Shea Butter -- bit.ly/47vE1rS Would work really well for this!
I use a Conair dryer/diffuser that Walmart sells for about 35 dollars and it dries my medium length, medium density curls in about 15 minutes!
I have the Conair Infinitipro and it cost about that but I haven't quite figured it out yet. I've been air drying until now. My hair is really thick. Any suggestions? And do you hover diffuse, pixie diffuse or both?
I love Marshalls! Please do a haircare guide video with products from Marshall!
You have to use what works for you
Much happier once I surrendered to my curls!
Hey y’all! I’m new to your channel and love the content you have I have seen so far. Can you advise on the L’Oréal curly \ wavy products.
I started my journey going to Ulta. Would love to see what you recommend from there!
This is a great video! Target options too!
Extremely helpful video thank you 😊
You’re welcome 😊
I've been liking the InfinitiPro by Conair Texture Styling hair dryer with diffuser. Walmart about $20. It has a deeper bowl.
I was looking and looking for that one at my Walmart! I couldn’t find it anywhere. 😭😭😭 I’ve always been interested to play around with that diffuser.
I bought it a few months ago and it's now $40. Thanks inflation. I love the deep bowl for my long hair.
What about a drugstore chelating shampoo 🤔
Great video idea, Courtney! Very informative!
Will this set of products do well on very fine hair? I struggle to get my waves to hold!
Beautiful results! Thank you for this video.
What is your favorite hair dryer and diffuser? I have really thick hair and it takes forever so I usually give up lol.
I have that hair dryer and I love it!
I just purchased Bondbar products from Sally and I'm wondering if you've done a video on it. I can't find anything
Had a surprisingly glorious wash day with the Uncle Funkys Daughter as a single styler even ok longevity
It would be really cool to do a Boots version of this (UK) … but I assume that would be pretty tricky?
Love this video! I really like the Not Your Mother's Curl Cream, however it is the only curl cream I've ever tried. Are there any other ones at Wal-Mart that are as good or better for wavy hair?
Just curious, have you tried the Dove Love Your Waves shampoo and conditioner?
Thanks so much for this
Do you wash out that gel? Or leave in? I currently use a curl cream, not a gel. I also leave my hair to dry overnight. I have really fine hair (thanks to all the cancer treatments-but hey I’m still here) so it literally will dry overnight in a bun. When I take it down in the morning, the inside might be a bit damp but dries within a half hour, literally. It just works for me. Is that bad? Not using a dryer?
I just love your shirt!
Great video! Very helpful
I would love to see the best Curl Smith products in a video.
😍
Ooooooo I love this idea!!
Hey, thank you for the very helpful video. But how many times would i have to do this a week?
Anytime you wash your hair and feel like styling it. You could do it zero times a week if you felt like it. Or you could do it every time you chose to wash your hair. It is up to you!
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney thank you very much!
Excellent video
that pillow case says satin, not silk.
Why is gel needed? I don’t like the crunchy stuck together look & feel. Can this method work without gel?
Embracing my wavy hair really boosted my self confidence, that surprised me! Also I never realised how healthy my hair could look before I tried out curly methods. I am not a pure curly girl method follower but what I changed has really increased the health of my hair. My Waves are looking better and better for each month passing but it’s a learning curve.
Thank you 😊
You're welcome 😊
Have you tried Monat? I keep seeing it on Instagram but it's so expensive! I hear mixed reviews.
I have tried it and I really wasn't impressed....
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney so glad to hear that coming from you! Haha thanks for the reply! You eliminated any FOMO for me 😄
I just bought a dryer and diffuser. Maybe new tools will motivate me to diffuse rather than air dry! 😊
I hair stylist is really knowledgeable about wavy curly hair. She knew exactly how to layer my hair to maximize my waves. I showed her the Wet brush I bought to develop curl clumps, and I found it not to work well. She said, "Of course not! With your hair, you need to invest in a Denman brush!"
Courtney, please consider reviewing Amika wavy/curly styling products?
@@TASIAawful1
🤣 Your curls do the opposite.
Good luck!
@@sunflowerbaby1853thank you very much for all that information I really appreciate it 😊
My hair doesnt ever seem to get thaaaat wet
But the links go to Target!?!
Hmm... Which ones? I just went through the links and they all to Walmart for me.
We always see videos from you where you end up with a great (or at least pretty decent) hair day. Surely not all products work that well for you. How about showing some where the products just don't work at all?
I thought typing was supposed to be based on unstyled not styled hair?
Yes it is
😂 Kinda like boogers.😂😂
