Totally agree, the fact that a DLC has so much more content, gameplay mechanics, story content, and polish than many other full AAA releases should be more concerning for the industry than it being nominated for GOTY

There should be a DLC category. However, there isn't, so too bad. Also, the game awards are a joke. You shouldn't take it seriously unless you are a competing game dev trying to gain traction.
So for those developers that we want to support I feel like expressing frustration with TGA’s move to pander to a specific studio because they are critically acclaimed, is warranted. I’m sure the dlc deserves an award for SOMETHING but a goty reward for dlc literally leaves other games with fresh ideas and a fresh concepts in the dust a little bit. This is still Elden ring they just expanded it. It’s not Elden ring 2. DLC of the year for sure, game of the year no.
@@joewaklatifa Yeah, sure. But people actually start throwing hands over this shit with total strangers. And let's be honest, any other company would have sold this as a sequel.
@@joewaklatifabut how is a dlc as big as a game any different than a sequel? A sequel isn’t “new ideas” either so should sequels not be able to win GOTY? That’s just stupid
I stand by the fact that DLCs should have their own categories and so should remasters/remakes. Let the expansions compete against each other, shit that kinda inter-competing would just result in better DLCs.
Then you would need 4 more remasters to fill up the nominee slots in the catagory and I highly doubt we’ll see a year with 5 remasters lol. The same also goes for DLCs. I think that’s why they aren’t their own category
Remasters/Remakes/Expansions should be a joint category. Not sure what it should be named by technicality but there is enough of them out there by now yearly to make it a thing.
@@certifiedcib7958 bro have you even been paying attention? Bro I WISH we saw ONLY 5 And there's a LOT of DLC that came out too, from Diablo 4 to Destiny 2 to the two Alan Wake 2 DLCs to the TLOU2 rouge like mode, there's a LOT and that's just off the top of my head
Yup if best thing I’ve played all year is monopoly it should be goty. If best thing I watched all year was frieren it should be game of the year. A dlc isn’t a game.
If you look at what the game awards really is - an advertising block for games. A dlc isn't a standalone product and as such isn't categorically the same as games. If you had to buy each expansion to final fantasy 14 = them being on like expansion 6 now times 60 dollars meaning 360 dollars to play the latest expansion... suddenly those are not the same thing. You can't give half life Alex the same category as any other game when you need a 1000 dollar controller to play it...
@@Entertainment-ev6obyou’re actually being so disingenuous. A DLC is still playing a game. Frieren is watching an anime. You cannot be serious with this
Thats what im saying just make a seperate category it's not hard, but the games have been so ass this year. The only game i think deserves goty over shadow of the erdtree is balatro.
@@Ziostormi tend to think of this DLC as basically being Dark Souls 4. Not just an add-on to ER. Even though you have to beat a couple mid game bosses to get there.
I agree, and ZS too has a good point. The market's crowded, make more categories for all aspects of the games. Narrative, visuals, performance, support, gameplay, multiplayer options, worldbuilding, art direction, technical breakthroughs, asset reuse, community building, profitability, pacing, public reception, realism, immersion, sound design, musical score...
You are wrong here, they did not change the rules. DLC had always been eligible if you were reading the TGA rulebook. However, it was never emphasized. If anything, they only highlighted it in their own website, when the Geoff saw that the jury votes for Erdtree was enough to get it into the GOTY category. That is why the witcher expansion blood and wine won best rpg in 2016.
He did specifically say that it was new for GOTY specifically, so that another DLC won in another category isn't relevant. he may still be wrong, but your example doesn't demonstrate that he is.
That doesn’t make it acceptable. This is just a loophole that wasn’t actually a loophole known by anyone. It’s so stupid if the dlc wins and I loved it.
@@Not____Applicable, I don't think that it's accurate to call it a loophole. A loophole is a technicality that allows you to do something that you were not intended to be able to do. There's no indication that DLCs winning these awards was ever not intended. It's just that most DLCs won't have what it takes, so it very rarely happens. The fact that most people aren't aware it's possible is partly a result of it not happening often and partly a result of no one bothering to actually read the rules of these awards and just assuming that they are what people think they should be.
@@wunnell Doesn't matter if he specifically said GOTY, and just because it's new for GOTY doesn't mean they changed the rules because GOTY is just one category among many, and every game from those other categories are eligible for a GOTY nomination if it gets enough jury votes. So yes, plain common sense confirms that if a DLC can compete with full games in any category not specifically for DLCs, it’s also eligible to compete for the GOTY crown. Therefore, his example with Blood and Wine is clearly relevant in demonstrating that DLCs are eligible for GOTY under the same rules. There’s no need to be pedantic or split hairs over exact phrasing when the underlying point is crystal clear: if a DLC meets the criteria in other categories, it’s fair game for GOTY. Lastly, just to reiterate OP’s point: the TGA rulebook hasn’t changed. They simply highlighted this rule on their website because it was relatively unknown and never emphasized before.
The way I see it... a nomination is an acknowledgment of the work/game. The question is if not shadow of the erdtree then what game should have been nominated in its place? I'm not sure Shadow of the erdtree should win but I think it would have been a mistake to have not given it a nomination. My two cents.
SoTE is a 50 hour standalone game/sequel packaged with ER as DLC because From is humble. People are only mad because it has "DLC" attached to it but no one who has played the game (including the judges) can deny this is not a generic DLC but is a whole goddamn game that any other company would've sold as a sequel.
Iceborn DLC should retroactively be up there too then, one of Monster Hunter World's DLCs. Every single DLC in existence should be put into consideration for being a nominee for GOTY. I don't care how long it takes to beat the DLC, if it's DLC, it's DLC. But you can believe whatever you want. I love Elden Ring, but a DLC should have it's own separated category. Do you play games that take multiple hundreds of hours to beat? So then Balatro in your opinion shouldn't be up there cause that shit takes a fraction of the time to beat than what it takes to beat ER. It's just silly that a DLC is nominated for GOTY, and it's even more silly that we're measuring how long it takes you to beat the content to figure out if it deserves GOTY.
Like Factorio just got its own DLC that added a whole new aspect to the game, takes probably just as long to beat that content as it does SotE, why isn't Factorio: Space Age considered a nominee for GOTY???
Nah if a dlc is good enough to compete it should get to. A dlc category would be so tiny most years the winner would be obvious. Also its not like most CODs arent just dlcs of the previous game any way
Nobody loves Elden Ring more than I do, but DLC and remasters need their own categories. It’s taking up space for other games. Black Myth Wukong definitely deserves GOTY this year.
To me, the bigger worry is the precedent. Look at it this way; the first year where DLCs can compete, a previous game of the year's expansion gets nominated. And from now on, if a previous nominee (like Black Myth) gets an expansion that doesn't get nominated, we raise an eyebrow. We also face the question of "does the base game have to have been a nominee for it's DLC to be a contender?", and if the answer is no, what does that say when that situation actually happens? No matter their intent, no matter what they meant to say, what we the people actually hear is in the subtext, and the game awards just layed the groundwork or a lot of drama in the future.
I would only raise an eyebrow if the the wukong dlc ( for example) was as good as SotE then. Because the dlc has to be amazing content to get nominated. In 2016 Blood and Wine took home RPG of the year over Dark Souls 3. for me B&W should’ve been also nominated for Goty then.
The only ones bringing drama into this are people like you making such an unnecessary big deal out of it. The only way a DLC is going to get goty is if people vote for it, and if they vote for it, then it's a well-deserved win. It's that simple.
@@tinminator8905 I don't know if this a response to me, but I do know in practice it's actually Geoff's committee. Even then, if a DLC deserves goty, then so be it.
Really? So why wasn't monster hunter world ice borne nominated? It tripled monster hunters content which people already said was great yet it wasn't nominated because it was dlc.
Make a DLC that’s $40 and better that most AAA games that are $70. That’s why it’s nominated for GOTY. “Shadow of the Erdtree” feels like an entirely separate game from Elden Ring. Once you’re in the Realm of Shadow…you don’t have to go back to the Lands Between to finish anything in the DLC. Phantom Liberty still has you going back to Night City to finish certain missions in the DLC that’s Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is a remake. It was phenomenal. I enjoyed it. Wukong was probably one of the best and most fun games I’ve ever played. I thought they did an amazing job on it. 2024 was an incredible year for gaming.

Except that brood war was a single standalone release. The fact the Sote is 40 bucks on top of a 60 dollar game is the crux here. Not to mention that there is no access to the dlc unless you interact and beat 50% of the base game...

To be honest I understand both views. I do agree that having a dlc nominated as goty doesn't make sense, but at the same time how is a dlc competing straight on and even surpassing most games? Isn't that a bit concerning on itself for the gaming industry?
@houcinehamdiken2460 correct me if I am wrong but you need to defeat radahn and mogh to enter the DLC and you need to have some progress on the GAME to enter the DLC

Why are people ignoring the Witcher 3 expansion winning "Best rpg" (over dark souls 3 of all things)? The claims that "ER made Geoff change the rules" just aren't true. I also disagree with people saying that DLCs should have a separate category. Expansions like ER Sote are pretty rare, so that category would just be the usual FF14/Destiny/Diablo, which would make it redundant since it's already being covered by "Best ongoing". Personally, I think that if a DLC gets nominated in Goty, it says more about the quality of game released that year. If a DLC manages to stick with people just as much if not more than full releases then it's certainly worthy to be nominated.
In general, I feel DLC should have its own category, but, since its not and the Game Awards has been loose with their categories for years (especially the Fighting Game category where unreleased games and action games have won), Shadow of the Erdtree was one of the biggest releases of the year with even non-gaming media covering it. Hell, most media is covering Sony's potential purchase of Kadokawa from the perspective of Elden Ring instead of the massive manga/anime catalog at stake and the monopoly it would create. Oh, and Elden Ring isn't even the only game up for the same award it already won as Multiverses is up for Fighting Game of the Year, which it already won back when it was early access... Yeah, this committee doesn't seem to know what they're doing 😂
It’s a DLC! It’s an add on to an already existing game that released a a couple of years ago! It’s a good DLC, but there are good games that came out this year that got robbed by this stupid choice!
I personally think that there is no clear AMAZING game this year that has any merit to be a GOTY nominee. We also have Balatro on the list, which is a pretty simple game that just happens to be very fun and addicting. Astro bot, which is a cool and safe family game. We got a remake on there. None of these scream MASTERPIECE to me. Games this year were just really weak. IMO studios just need to stop complaining, get on their ass and make better games next year.
@@tinminator8905 Rebirth, Metaphor, Astrobot off the top of my head are masterpieces. Pretty easily surpass this DLC imo But I agree other games could have been nominated over this. For one You have to get to nearly end game to even access the DLC. An expansion of an existing game just isn’t eligible. Should have its own category
This is nothing new. A different Destiny 2 DLC has been nominated for Game of the Year for several different years. Saying that Shadow of the Erdtree is the first one to be nominated like this is wrong.

While I think SOTE’s lore/narrative holds it back from being GOTY-worthy, I do think it should be able to win on principle of there not yet being a rule of new category in place upon its nomination. However, after this years winner is announced, they should absolutely make a new category to prevent this from happening in the future.
It's kind of ridiculous how people forgot how Shadow of the Erdtree set the internet on fire for like 2 months. It was all over the games industry, to the point where games moved their release dates to avoid it. Not to mention it got 10s across the board. Finally, most people have more time in the dlc then most of the games out there. I got over 240 hours and that was for 1 run.
Shadow of the Erdtree was an expansion for a game that sold a shitload of copies, it was going to be talked no matter what about because Elden Ring was so successful. That is regardless of the quality of the DLC, which, frankly, was not great.
imagine if wukong releases their dlc next year and it really is just the same game with just more chapters and it was nominated id personally also have a problem with it same case here
Bro they need a best DLC category, and Silent Hill 2 should take its place as GOTY nomination. It’s a crime it’s not even nominated it’s EASY my GOTY. Pure bull.
There should be a "Best DLC" and "Best Remake/Remaster" categories. If we have SOTE in the running for the normal GOTY stuff, then the other games just don't stand a chance. Maybe BM:W does?
@tinminator8905 the go and do it yourself mentality is a cute little buttoned-up fantasy that a lot of people like to employ as a pseudo argument for criticism. In reality however you are just being hypocritical weak and naive. I suggest that DLC should have its own category in the game awards because it's simply should its own thing at an expansion to an already existing game. If you add a DLC expansion on already an incredible game that everyone loves it's not going to be much different is it? It's just going to be another incredible thing that everyone loves and of course it's going to win. I'm a fromsoft Fanboy die hard, so I believe that elden ring deserves all the praise it's ever gotten and barely deserves any of its criticisms, but even I think and that just allowing DLCs and even remakes or remasters is going to make it where it's unfair for other games. A lot of people love silent Hill 2, but if the remake gets game of the year that's just shallow. There should be a remake category and a DLC category for those reasons.
@@UltimateFessd No, it is simply not that easy. Self evident by the fact that many DLCs of great games are not that special. It is not easier to make an amazing DLC than it is to make an amazing game. I would argue that making a great DLC that rivals full new releases in both scope and quality is much harder. People often lose passion after working on something for too long, so massive DLCs run the risk being uninspired products for money more than fresh releases.
I do think as a general rule, DLCs shouldn't be able to get "game of the year" But it is 100% better than a lot oof things released this year... It's just... it's DLC, not a game. I'd make an exception if a game from a previous year was re-nominated because of something it did this year though. Like say, Phantom Liberty. It was extremely good, but it should have allowed Cyber Punk itself to receive a nomination for GotY during Phantom Liberty's release year instead of Phantom Liberty being nominated. Basically, something about the game that makes it the "Game of the Year" for that year. The DLC itself should not receive the nomination, the game should receive the nomination for being revitalised to the point where it is now GotY. If there's an issue with having the same game be nominated two years in a row, and the people deciding on nominations don't like that, then simply exclude it. If a game can achieve something that makes it the "best game of that year", it should be allowed to be nominated, but nominating a DLC on its own feels like a farce.
So if nothing about SOTE changed at all, except it was released as “Elden ring 2” it would be perfectly fine to be nominated????? You see, that’s why the logic falls apart. It’s about the content, not how it’s released.
The hissy fits I’ve seen people have because DLC’s and remasters are nominees for Goty confuse me like what did you expect games nowadays are crap, would you rather nominate concord or some other crap game like that??
I can't think of any other dlc content that would have ever have been a threat to any previous GOTY nominees. That speaks crazy volumes for SoTE. It shouldn't win, but just being in the conversation is a W in itself. I think it's more of an xpack than a dlc, but 🤷♂️
because if they had an award for dlcs this would basically be guarrenteed to win it but no instead it takes the spot of actual games that really do deserve a nomination for goty like stellar blade or space marine 2. @@AC-ov5ny nah Metaphor deserves the win but I agree SotE shouldn't have been nominated. This would have been the perfect opportunity to create a DLC category even if we all knew it would win But no. Keighley wants Elden Ring to win again so he added it to the list of games

Elden Ring dlc 2 could be an absolute flop but it would still get the nomination stealing a further slot and potentially a third goty (assuming elden ring is winning since the game journos have majority vote anyways) It's not fair for games that genuinely pushed further and hard to just auto lose

There should be a "Gaming experience of the year" category and then, yes dlc, multiplayer games, mobas, RTS and whatever was great that year could win it.
If it’s not its own game it shouldn’t be up for GOTY. Yes it’s amazing and puts many AAA this year to shame but that doesn’t change the fact it’s a dlc.
I liked playing ER DLC more, but Wukong clears for the AAA game of the year. Although, Nine Sols is by far my favorite this year. The closest to Sekiro gameplay game I've ever played. I love Lies of P so much, but Nine Sols is so much closer to Sekiro's parry timing/window and gameplay dynamics. As a massive Hollow Knight and Sekiro fan, Nine Sols just hit the spot for me
Considering SOTE is better than most full games that have come out this year, yes, it should be. Its a full 20hr DLC if you're a casual player with some degree of moderate skill. If you're not even that, its even longer. Its an entire second game. If a remake can be nominated, why can't a DLC? Remakes are not new games. Its also not the entire game it was a remake of, its essentially DLC for the first part of the remake released like...three years ago?
What would people replace the ER DLC with tho? Because I'm guessing they decided to make up this new rule because they had nothing to put there as the 6th game. Except you know Stellar Blade. Guess people forgot about that game.
Erdtree's got my vote... A DLC containing more content than every game on the list. Easily playable multiple times over. Wukong was fun for the first playthrough but the serious lack of content left it difficult for me to play multiple times over.
I hope the DLC wins just so these people get mad lol seriously, get a life. The outcome does not influence anyone’s life whatsoever so why be invested in it 😂
Technically speaking sote was the biggest game to come out in terms of size and action and gameplay time except it was a dlc only games worthy of goty is wukong and sote that's it
Size idk, action? Nah. It's still using the same system as DS3 + jumping. Other games handle action better than Elden Ring like Nioh, Stellar Blade, Bloodborne and DMC, etc.

The development team made this independent choice with the mindset that, regardless of our actions, the outcome will still be fantastic. I am not a massive fan of Wukong or anything, and SOTE did make me love Elden Ring again, but even I recognise that Wukong had such a massive impact that it deserves to win GOTY. It's kind of unfair on Wukong if a DLC of a game that already won GOTY wins the award again, rather than recognising what Wukong managed to do this year.
Shadow of the Erdtree is not just dlc... it's so expansive that it might be seen as a separate game. The only game/dlc that comes close to that was StarCraft with Broodwar. And Wukong is definitely not GOTY material. Boring, repetitive and full of f-ing invisible walls. It might as well be a railshooter.
Except it wasn't a separate game and it wasn't built like a separate game. They'd have to rebalance the entire thing if they wanted to make it a standalone experience.
@@paledrake balancing or no doesn't change the fact that it has enough content to be a standalone game, now does it? Contrast that to say EA or Paradox and their fart emoticon dlc at 5€ or more a piece as one of a hundred not worth the money dlc's.

Definitely impressive, it's one of if not the biggest single player game dlcs out there.
Personally, I think people would’ve been mad if it wasn’t nominated as well. Can’t please everyone. I for one am glad it was nominated, the technical achievement, art and soundtrack and much more make it a worthy contestant. Won’t be mad if it doesn’t win, but it deserves a shot.
The amount of content and playtime SOTE offers absolutely qualifies it for nomination, but because of how niche it is to the average player I could understand if it doesn’t win GOTY. This should be a wake-up call for all AAA gaming franchises. Step up your game. Literally.
The game awards is about recognizing and celebrating the best gaming content released in a year. It doesn’t matter the circumstances of how a piece of content is released. If it is new content and released this year, it is eligible to win any awards. Period. Having a “best dlc” category, does a disservice to just how good SOTE is. We can have a “best dlc” category, as long as it is still eligible to ALSO be in the GOTY category. Because that’s what it deserves.
Shadow of the Erdtree feels more like a smaller sequel with plenty of new content that reuses many assets rather than actual DLC, and I don't mean that in a bad way. I've personally been loving Shadow of the Erdtree for a game I already very much love. Considering how chunky this DLC is and how it feels worth the price to me, I can see why it's being nominated.
As it stands, I'm fine with it. But going forward there really should be a separate category for Expansions/DLC. They should probably add more specific genre categories as well.
It would be funnier if they had a wide full release category with a pure gamer vote for popularity. Just to have the dlc dunk on everything but not have it as GOTY slot.
the problem is our definition of 'DLC'. Anything from a 60+ hour game to like... horse armor is considered dlc. Diablo 2 LoD "expansion" back in the day gave me 1000's of hours of enjoyment, for example. My question is if we don't allow them in the GOTY category then where should we put them to appreciate the good ones that really are at least as big as the average game? I'm not sure we get enough big DLC's like that for them to have their own category.
If a base game is required to play a dlc, the dlc should not be in the category for GAME of the year. It should have its own, just like The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine (which beat Dark Souls 3 for best RPG of the year)
Funny thing is that W3 B&W actually allowed you to make a new save starting with the dlc campaign, but that is hardly an enjoyable way to experience the game without all the choices and context of the base-game.
Why in god's name does a friggin remaster being nominated for GOTY create no uproar, yet a DLC being nominated for the same thing causes all this controversy? That makes zero sense.
The DLC has its own complete story, plus new mechanics, and it is definitely large enough to be considered a full game. I'm completely in favour of SotE getting Game of the Year. Maybe then the other AAA publishers will start giving us DLCs that are worth a damn.
Movies from the lord of the rings trilogy won multiple Oscar’s in different years, I don’t see the problem here, the loftr trilogy is essentially a single movie split in three parts, just like Elden ring and Shadow of the Erdtree is split into two.

It is
If you look at what the game awards really is - an advertising block for games.

It’s not a standalone game or a sequel. You can’t even access it without reaching basically mid game for most people before playing it.
@PurplePicaro I know. That's not what I am saying
Tell me you don't know what standalone is without telling me you don't know what standalone is.

WDYM what happens? It has happened with Cyberpunk. Then the DLC simply appears on the nominee list. I don’t understand where the issue lies.
The only ones bringing drama into this are people like you making such an unnecessary big deal out of it. The only way a DLC is going to get goty is if people vote for it, and if they vote for it, then it's a well-deserved win. It's that simple.

I do think as a general rule, DLCs shouldn't be able to get "game of the year"
But it is 100% better than a lot oof things released this year...

I will be voting for Black Myth:Wukong. SotE in my opinion is not as good as the base game. But I agree, Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2 should have been nominated.

I would be fine with it not winning anything as long as wukong doesn't win, people D riding that game way too much, it's like that's most people's first "good" game, there's no way people are actually saying it's one of the best games they've ever played..
I loved the DLC but it shouldn't be nominated for GotY, DLC is not the same as a full game and DLC should have it's own category because GotY should be full games released that year!
From Software is special. Their DLC is better than every other full game released this year. So they deserve this spot 100% and I want them to win.

This is just a gaming industry skill issue. Maybe if they could release more than two good games in a year we wouldn't need to nominate a DLC made by one of the last companies who cares.
The Elden Ring expansion is my game of the year too bad for those people who are mad about a DLC in the game of the year
There should be a "Gaming experience of the year" category and then, yes dlc, multiplayer games, mobas, RTS and whatever was great that year could win it.
great vid but I disagree, there should NOT be a best dlc category and I think the reason is pretty obvious
Most DLCs suck and there are barely even enough reasonable candidates to nominate?
@ good point
the DLC was bigger and had more content than most games these days. also would be funny to get goty again with just a DLC. goty twice on one game lmao
As a massive Hollow Knight and Sekiro fan, Nine Sols just hit the spot for me
Shadow of the erdtree for me took 40 hours which is longer for me than my ds1 and ds3 play throughs combined
DLCs and Remakes should have their own category

Erdtree's got my vote... A DLC containing more content than every game on the list. Easily playable multiple times over. Wukong was fun for the first playthrough but the serious lack of content left it difficult for me to play multiple times over.
Black myth wukong should definitely get it
I hope the DLC wins just so these people get mad lol seriously, get a life. The outcome does not influence anyone’s life whatsoever so why be invested in it 😂
Technically speaking sote was the biggest game to come out in terms of size and action and gameplay time except it was a dlc only games worthy of goty is wukong and sote that's it
you know other games released this year that was much longer and worth playing way more than Feetzaki's most shitty dlc
^ no life spotted
Size idk, action? Nah. It's still using the same system as DS3 + jumping. Other games handle action better than Elden Ring like Nioh, Stellar Blade, Bloodborne and DMC, etc.

Wu Kong being GOTY is the most correct opinion I’ve ever heard lol
SOTE is exponentially better and more fun than Wukong.
Facts
That is an opinion, one not everyone shares as both are extremely popular. Actually as we know SotE sold 5 million while Wukong has reached 20 million. So more people probably disagree.
@@paledrake Sales don't indicate quality, call of duty sells a shit ton every year but we know how those games are nowadays, wukong is a decent game but the majority of those 20 million copies are most definitely from the Chinese market, they don't really have a ton of "good" quality AAA releases, since they mainly make mobile games..so of course they're gonna eat the game up even if its just ok compared to other games that are similar mechanic wise that did it better, it also just looks good..that's it.
@@terminate_all I mean it's your word/opinion vs 20 million people and overwhelmingly positive ratings on Steam. If you asked me personally I'd say Elden Ring is overrated because the combat is outdated and doesn't work well in a huge open world with a lot of reused content. Similarly Nioh 2 reuses a lot of content, but I don't get tired of re-fighting bosses. So yeah, it's all subjective. Shocker.
@@paledrake those 20 million people get their money sucked from them on the daily with their games, so I'm not surprised they think wukong is the Messiah of games, and literally what game doesn't reuse assets? The majority of them do, but when it's a big game it's an issue all of a sudden lol..nioh 2 did it better, I'll agree with that any day of the week.
Edit : let's not get sassy by saying shocker sarcastically lol
The development team made this independent choice with the mindset that, regardless of our actions, the outcome will still be fantastic. As a result, they've decided to hire some modders to significantly increase the difficulty-increasing it to 5000-so that all mobs can defeat players in just two hits. This approach seems essential for enhancing gameplay.
Fact is that there is not many great games being put out, which opens the door for SOTE to be nominated.
how about space marine 2 ?
@@kaiserdetectivegolden2735 or dd2 or stellar blade or kunitsu gami this person just didn't play many games this year.
@@Gems56They are all pretty mid TBH. Not above 8/10. I would be ashamed for gaming if DD2 was a nominee.
This year was stacked: FF7 Rebirth, Metaphor, Wukong, Stellar Blade, Tekken 8, Granblue Fantasy Relink, Ys 10, Helldivers, Space Marines 2, Persona 3 Reload, Unicorn Overlord, Animal Well, Rise of the Ronin, Astro Bot, Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, Zelda Echoes of Wisdom. Do you only play From Software games or something?
Get out of your bubble.
@@Gems56 The others are valid, but DD2 was a massive disappointment even if the gameplay was fun. Everything that wasn't gameplay (lack of content though) and the character creator was bad or lacking.
@ Yes, but it isn't a standalone game as it still uses the same systems and the (literal) same upgrading paths. You could make a standalone game with this if they reworked it, but it wouldn't be as big as Elden Ring as it's around as big as 2 base-game regions. Definitely impressive, it's one of if not the biggest single player game dlcs out there.
This shouldn't be a controversy.

It should absolutely be nominated.
Balatro should win GOTY
I think this will keep game creators honest and force them to give us great product if they care about winning the award.
Agree with you 💯 Black Myth: Wukong should win GOTY. For a studios first non moblie game, GameScience absolutely killed it!
As it stands, I'm fine with it. But going forward there really should be a separate category for Expansions/DLC. They should probably add more specific genre categories as well.
Witcher 3 Blood and Wine would have won a DLC category type award no question
It would be funnier if they had a wide full release category with a pure gamer vote for popularity. Just to have the dlc dunk on everything but not have it as GOTY slot.
"one of these things is not like the other".
FFVII:REBIRTH : Do I not exist to you?
DLC should have its own category. Plus there is way too much BS happening in the background.
If a remake can be nominated, then a DLC can too. However, Wukong is my GOTY.
the problem is our definition of 'DLC'.
I think it's fine that Shadow of the Erdtree has been nominated. There is more in that DLC than most "new" games.
