Another example of how Eddie Vedder is so good at singing other people's songs. He doesn't try to hog the limelight but really gets into the music. And the long blonde hair gives him an angelic look to go with that beautiful face.
PJ is my favorite band. The Who is Eddie Vedder's favorite. This would be the equivalent of me of being a singer in a band that made it really big and then being asked by Eddie Vedder to come sing with Pearl Jam. What an honor.
Working with his Heroes like this must be AMAZING for Eddie Vedder. And a bonus for them too. Him and Chris Cornell are the best Rock vocalists since the 70's.
Pete is my hero.. I adore eV but gosh, pete's voice gives me goosebumps. Empty Glass, my fave album of all time. Thanks for posting this!!!!!!!!!!!!!! xoxo
pffff ... pete's amazing. Ed said once that pete was like a father to him... how wonderful would it be to actually meet one of your idols..- let alone share a stage in several ocasions with him
eddies great , he doesn't hold a candle to Pete Townsend . Just look at him when Pete's playen , He is in total awe that he's on stage with such a legend.
The song is called "Heart to hang onto" an can be found e.g. on the CD Letterman is talking about in the beginning of the video. The year must be 1999 or so - in this year the cd was published in Germany.
Eddie is an awesome dude...just loves to play. I like all of his guest performances. If only Layne Staley could have done some guest stuff with eddie. Awesome combo there. But great vid, Pete still rocks for his age. Thanks
That was an awesome performance from everyone. I don't understand all the negative comments about hair colors and wanting to hear oldies. Vedder added a great dimension to Townshend's song.
Had to be Fall 1999 or Early 2000. Eddie dyed his hair that color at the 1999 Bridge School Concert. I was there. Just before Binaural dropped in the Spring/summer of 2000.
I was at the House of Blues Chicago show in '99. There were only 100 people there. Incredible performance. Vedder opened for The Who. He played guitar. Towards the end of the lackluster set, Vedder says "In about 10 minutes you're gonna see a "real" guitar player." The crowd went nuts. I thought that was pretty cool for him to admit he was out of his league as fer as guitar. Vedder has one of the best voices in the biz.
I AIN'T NO BIG MUSIC CRITIC, LIKE EVERYONE ELSE I KNOW, THEY KNOW WHAT THEY LIKE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A HANDING OFF TO THE NEXT GENERATION. 'GREW UP LISTENING TO THE WHO AND THE MORE I HEAR EV, THE BETTER HE SEEMS TO GET .
If I had to take a guess, I'd say it's probably 1999 or 2000. Townshend did a benefit concert for that charity in 1999, and he's been working with Eddie Vedder off and on since then.
Shit I would do the same thing if I was playing with Pete Townshend. I grew up watching these guys and if I was on stage with them, I think I would do more than just jump around.
Here's the original: v=ykJl23znhpE&feature=related The original duet is with Ronnie Lane of the Small Faces on album "Rough Mix". Great album. Vedder mixes up the lyrics at 1:17 and 2:37. I listened to this album a lot :-)
@nickypee What? Are you talking about the incident in 2003? He wasn't charged with anything as a result of that, nor can I find any mention of anything else occurring that would've resulted in him being placed on the register...
Another interesting thing is that if you play "Pry To" backwards it says, "Pete Townsend, oh how you saved my live". Eddie claims that wasn't done on purpose though.
I started listening to The Who because of Pearl Jam...I know to some people that makes me an idiot because The Who was around wayyy before PJ but I don't give a rat's ass...I love The Who & it doesn't matter when or why I started listening,I still consider myself a huge Who fan and love Pete Tounsend's solo stuff as well.I'm proud that my favorite band introduced me to my second favorite.
@deimachy I dunno what nickypee said but Im presuming it was about Pete's run in witht he law in 2003?? If so, he wasnt charged but was placed on the sex offenders register for 5 years as a precaution

Ed has one of the best voices in rock ever in my opinion. I love Ed, PJ, The Who. It's just real music people...real good music
really....i can't explain how much i love them.
Eddie's mind must be frickin' blowin' when this is going down. Playing with Pete from the Who? This is great. Thanks ElDud...
Working with his Heroes like this must be AMAZING for Eddie Vedder. And a bonus for them too. Him and Chris Cornell are the best Rock vocalists since the 70's.
They sound great!
I wish I was born 30 years earlier in order to live during the era of such great music!
They both did great for their eras. Beautiful to see such innovators together.
Two of the greatest legends of all time. What more could anyone ask.
Love these two guys so much!
Wow Eddie got to sing his idol Pete Townsend a dream come true!!! Awesome ♥️♥️🤘🤘
wow... that was great.
The live CD Letterman introduces came out summer of '99.
Pete is my hero.. I adore eV but gosh, pete's voice gives me goosebumps. Empty Glass, my fave album of all time.

Vedder rules, great performance!!! I like Pete too
This song brings tears to my eyes...

"Heart to hang on to"
Great!

very nice. thx for sharing
Wow! Great song!

Thanks
Vedder loves the who and Pete and I love this song from rough mix
both were great.
vedder's voice sounds luxurious-great cut
It's from Ronnie Lane and Townshend's album Rough Mix 1977
That was an awesome performance from everyone. I don't understand all the negative comments about hair colors and wanting to hear oldies. Vedder added a great dimension to Townshend's song.
SUPERB VERY CLASSY
Pete Townsend such a nice guitar player one ont he best of the history
I love Eddie Vedder since a long time, but I didn't know he did an audition for the Backstreet Boys.
Wow, Eddie Vedder with blond hair? who would have ever thought.. Still sounded great, song sounds awesome
Originally came out on an album called Rough Mix featuring Pete and Ronnie Lane rated 4 stars by Rolling Stone
Had to be Fall 1999 or Early 2000. Eddie dyed his hair that color at the 1999 Bridge School Concert. I was there. Just before Binaural dropped in the Spring/summer of 2000.
lucky eddie playing with this legend
Roger does sing it on Who Are You, but there is a Pete version available too, at least as a bootleg.
Wow, this is good stuff. Two real pros.
ITS CALLED A HEART TO HANG TO FROM PETES ALBUM ROUGH MIX,HE RECORDED IT WITH RONNY LANE FROM THE SMALL FACES
@LunaEsence There was reason for this as blusk0 previously stated, Eddie dyed it blonde in tribute to Layne Staley after his death. Circa summer 2002
@demravager this show was on Wednesday July 28th, 1999. Stanley was still alive.
I'm just amazed at how great Pete's voice is, even up against some one like Eddie. not that they are against each other but you know what I mean.
If I had to take a guess, I'd say it's probably 1999 or 2000. Townshend did a benefit concert for that charity in 1999, and he's been working with Eddie Vedder off and on since then.
This is from a July, 1999 Letterman show.
Shit I would do the same thing if I was playing with Pete Townshend. I grew up watching these guys and if I was on stage with them, I think I would do more than just jump around.
Spell his last name correctly, at least you should know that!
never seen it before but it's cool ......!!!!!!
Maravilhoso!
Love them both. BTW, Eddie looks like Julian Casablancas from the stokes in this vid.
omg, how i'd love to be in Eddie's shoes!
Amen !
Im almost positive this is 1999.
@blusk0 so I guess the earring (around 1:14) is a tribute to Layne as well...
great eddie. me too i was blonde from 1999 to 2001. and i was really cool, imo...
eddie is singing with the heart here.
Thanks for this...cool tune & can EV sing or is it my imagination!?
A Heart To Hang Onto
Here's the original: v=ykJl23znhpE&feature=related
The original duet is with Ronnie Lane of the Small Faces on album "Rough Mix".
Great album.
Vedder mixes up the lyrics at 1:17 and 2:37. I listened to this album a lot :-)
really really hard to ignore
Both Eddie and Pete are great in this. Yes, Eddie is president of the PT fan club.
eddie was never forgoten
@MsCuyahoga The blond was a tribute to Robert Plant, and when he cut his hair is was cause he cut it int a mowhawk for The Ramones Rock HOF ceremony
Pete Townshend is the creator of playing the guitar like a bowling ball.
Original Airdate: Wednesday July 28th, 1999
Totally, it's weird hearing him on a reedy Fender.
Well said Lloyd, it kills me that people typecast PJ. These poor assholes are missing out on a truly special band.
@malabargold well said great album
@nickypee What? Are you talking about the incident in 2003? He wasn't charged with anything as a result of that, nor can I find any mention of anything else occurring that would've resulted in him being placed on the register...
This year would be 2003 because I have live at benaroya hall and the PJ vids I've seen from that time he had blond
really works for him
Wow, Eddie had an earring ... is that an earring ?
Another interesting thing is that if you play "Pry To" backwards it says, "Pete Townsend, oh how you saved my live". Eddie claims that wasn't done on purpose though.
Hie shy Eddie is❤
Heart to Hang Onto
But you live in it now. With songs by Pete and Eddie.
LOL, NICE COMEBACK :)
@SjTSail This is an oldy thoguh, 1976.
Nicely done. Anybody know when this took place?
Wow
I started listening to The Who because of Pearl Jam...I know to some people that makes me an idiot because The Who was around wayyy before PJ but I don't give a rat's ass...I love The Who & it doesn't matter when or why I started listening,I still consider myself a huge Who fan and love Pete Tounsend's solo stuff as well.I'm proud that my favorite band introduced me to my second favorite.
Classe da vendere..
Paul on the Rhodes. Nice.
@randolphmontsma no excuses man i didnt get into pearl jam until this year but I still knew who the hell vedder was.
@deimachy I dunno what nickypee said but Im presuming it was about Pete's run in witht he law in 2003?? If so, he wasnt charged but was placed on the sex offenders register for 5 years as a precaution
