One of favorite live performances. So much soul and emotion. And come on, Eddie performing with his hero Pete. That's just a dream come true to Eddie and his fans!
I remember watching this the night that it aired! I popped in a blank tape and recorded it on my VCR. Oh to be a young teen in the 90's! Lol! Such a great performance! Love Eddie Veddar. 💜🎙🎸🎶🖤
Recently repurchased Rough Mix from which this song was born. Vedder sang Ronnie Lane's part well. One thing about aging rockers: long after the vocals fast, most never forget how to play. Thanks for sharing this gem!
I remember the exact words to every song from the original Rough Mix album. I think that Eddie Vedder's rendition of the Who songs from Quadrophenia are stupendously amazing, but in the peformance of this song it seems like he was maybe having an off-night, and he flubbed 2 verses of the lyrics. Still, I'm glad he joined up with Pete Townshend to sing it. Ronnie Lane's music lives on!
@@xblood1978 Except I suspect Townshend OK'ed the Vedder's changes beforehand. Townshend himself changes the tune by starting with the verse about Danny, instead of the one about Johnny Boy, which is the way the tune appears on the Rough Mix album. I don't know why Pete & Eddie changed it -- it's not an improvement. Love the original!
Ronnie Lane is proud, this tune is from the Rough Mix album Townsend did with Lane. Great album. This tune is one of many on that vinyl record. Great version!
We all know that 'Small Faces' and 'Faces' had up front vocalists...only the soul was Ronnie Lane.....this is a nice tribute by Eddie, but Ronnie and Pete had a vibe.....'Misunderstood'....
eddie with an earring and blonde dyed hair. I mean, doesn't he know he fails to seem silly when he is Eddie Vedder? great video, great men, great performance.
Why do people never spell his name right? You wouldn't type Veder or Cobane or Daltree, but you type Townsend! If you don't believe that's wrong, check out the Who's first singles or albums and see his name is TownsHend :). It must drive the guy insane to have others rave about him when they don't know what his name is? :)
Eddie had every reason to be nervous. “I’m here next to a legend singing a song he wrote and performed with one of his best friends who is now deceased. “
Who's that chick...Edie Something? She might have learned the lyrics to a a short song when accompanying THE MASTER LYRICIST who wrote it. Just saying.
These two are a great example of people who do not actually sing "well" that make up for it with beautiful lyrics and writing to fit their voices. Not overproduced or tuned. You can hear the cracks and strains, and bum notes. It's much better than perfect pop of today.
The original on rough mix is still better. Ronnie Lane , one of the greatest musicians of the 60s and 70s that so few really know about. Rod Stewart credits him for being one of his greatest influences though he treated Ronnie rather Shabbily in the Faces. Ronnie wrote the ooh la la song
He wasn't done for it as it was proved that he was researching into child abuse as obviously it's something he hates. Use of child pornography doesn't get punished with a slap on the back of the hand 'caution'. He was niaive to think he could do this kind of research on his own and paid the price with a tabloid headline which is remembered over anything good he has done.
This version is so much better than Pete did with Ronnie Lane on "Rough Mix". Pete leading off with Eddie doing his part from the original, traditionalized this song
not many notes were hit in general. for pete it kinda works because he wrote it and can get around the lyrics in a way that still feels authentic. for the other guy, not so much.
That was beautiful!! Eddie singing his idol Pete Townshend!! 😊💓🤘✌️
Pete Townshend is the greatest rock and roller...ever!

Too true 👏👏👏👏🏴🏴🏴🏴

'Don't meet your heros'
Eddie: "Fine, I'll sing with them"
this is one of my all-time favorites to rewatch over and over...
this is such a beautiful collaberation
Love it miss ronnie Lane... What an album they made superb 👌❤️
Only one Pete, what a wonderful contributer of great music through the yesrs
Oh Pete, I do love you so!
Love this Pete Townsend song........such a nice pair with Eddie Vedder
20 years ago! I can't believe it.
Yep it goes not fast, sadly 😢
Quite the gem💛💜🌟
All the very, very best to Maryville's Children's in my sweet home Chicago.
💪✌💚🍀🖖🌈
I was listen to Tom Petty radio and heard this song I'm hooked!!! Big WHO fan!!
Excellent!! Love this song🎤🎶🎵🎼🎸🎶🎼🎤🎹
This is sublime. Eddie was at his most physically beautiful at that point, in my opinion. And the blonde locks are appropriate for this band!
Thanks for posting, this is a gem
What a gorgeous song!
Love this song.

Yep one of the strongest versus was Sally crying at night. Pete should have hit him with his guitar lol.
Absolutely... and we know Petes temper he probably knocked fuck out of Vedder after the show
Nah ya wrong

this is too awesome.
Epic song

An amazing album
One of the best albums! Love it
This is a great performance.
This is all heart.
eddie"s outro lyrics are cool as hell
Shoot, I tuned in to see Bruce Willis and Barry White!
Exquisite performance of a poignant, delicate, and tough song.
eddie with an earring and blonde dyed hair. I mean, doesn't he know he fails to seem silly when he is Eddie Vedder? great video, great men, great performance.
wish I could see what they were playing during the break
For Ronnie
Heart to hang on to........
A prayer for Mr. V.
What was the other song they did that we only got to see the end of?

This would have been such a great Who song...imagine it on the Who Are You album
Eddie mixed up some of the lyrics----still a great performance.
Really
Eddie had every reason to be nervous. “I’m here next to a legend singing a song he wrote and performed with one of his best friends who is now deceased. “
@@musicstewart9744 Eddie bounced back by not repeating the verse. Beautiful version.
si
Eddie looks like Lance from Apocalypse Now
Fuck man... remember the bleeding lyrics..... send this kid home with a bag of crisps, yeah?
thanks god you leave gold hair
Just wish it was Ronnie Lane singing with Pete.
Ronnie Lane's contribution was the best
Who's that chick...Edie Something? She might have learned the lyrics to a a short song when accompanying THE MASTER LYRICIST who wrote it. Just saying.
Lol you do realize Pete and Eddie are close friends right?

GO RONNIE!
Eddie's good but he ain't no Ronnie Lane.
Obviously
Ladies & Gentlemen,
let us live well Now. ✌

Vedder made a mistake in the last verse... He doesn't know these beauty lyrics well
I just noticed that as well
actually its the second and last verse , last line on both were wrong. But i still love this version
This version is so much better than Pete did with Ronnie Lane on "Rough Mix". Pete leading off with Eddie doing his part from the original, traditionalized this song
Is it just me or were they both singing flat?
