Have to mention that Lithuanian and its relative the Latvian Language, roots back to Sanskrit and could be even older, which makes it not only the oldest European Language, but the world's Oldest language, which is mind-blowing.

Hi! Please, Google about Crocodile Dundee! It was a real latvian man from Latvia who emigrated to Australia. * he definitely was the man who provided the inspiration for Paul Hogan's iconic Mick Dundee character in the Crocodile Dundee film.

Interesting years ago I heard similar about an Estonian living in Australia. A Polish woman was considered to be the most successful Crocodile hunter in Australia.

I'm latvian and it was absolutely fun to watch this video :D. Yep, a lot of it is true and there was even few things I learned myself, like the pagan calendar. Have to check it out.
When ever someone mentions our ladybugs, I remember part of the clip from song by 100 debija - day by day, where ladybug runs over camera lens and then takes off in slow motion. Song reflects hopefulness in early 90s that we had. We were poor and I remember I even played with bugs when I was growing up in grandparents farmhouse. It was good times, very simple times. As Latvians we also love our Rock ballads.
Wow, kind of feel like I should plan a vacation to Latvia next summer. As an Estonian we seem to be always driving through, but rarely stopping for more than a coffee.

Pierīga is not a historical land, but a suburb region of Riga :) Historical Latvian regions are: Courland (Latvian: Kurzeme, Livonian: Kurāmō), Semigallia (Latvian: Zemgale), Selonia (Latvian: Sēlija, Augšzeme), Latgallia (Latvian: Latgale, Latgalian: Latgola) and Vidzeme (Livonian: Vidūmō).

Riga is beautiful and if you like Art Nouveu it's a must see. The Art Nouveau part of the city is mainly due to the architect Michail Ėjzenštejn (father of the director Sergej)
Not true. Eizenstein has done 19 out of those 400 façades. Most are done by Latvian architects like Laube and Pēkšēns, as the golden era of Art Nouveau coincided with the time when it was finally possible and legal for ethnic Latvians to become architects.
@@martinskesteris8664 let's also not forget Pauls mandelštams. Latvian Jewish architect working in Rīga at the time. He also designed the nice building where the jews in latvia museum is now. Sadly as many others during the holocaust in latvia he was executed in Rīgas central prison in maskavas foršete (which itself was a tragic place)

I love how latvians and lithuanians love each other by default. In every video about one of the 2 countries, there are always comments from the other, sending love and calling each other "braliukai" or "braļukas" (braliukai is lithuanian for brothers/bros, while braļukas is how latvians more or less imitate the lithuanian word)
you spent so much energy on national animals, yet the meaning of our national animals is so insignificant, that I have heard of their "national status" like 5 times in my lifetime, and always at trivia, never in conversations. I still don't know who they are, because I forget this info 2 hours after each trivia

Yes it was in 1991 when the whole of USSR collapsed. And countries became independent. Including Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania and the rest of the ex USSR countries.

Yeah but it's different. If I'm not mistaken, those 110 municipalities are Latvia's first level administrative divisions whereas the Netherland's would be the 12 provinces. And it would also make sense that you have more municipalities as the Netherlands is a highly densely populated country.

omg dude can't into latvian at all. Latvians use 1st accent, so the first syllable is accented. I'm not latvian though, but I have some friends there and this geography dude's pronunciation sounds off to me. And at the end it was obvious, when he compared latvian and lithuanian. Me being lithuanian I know he wasn't trying too hard, it was all over the place, lol. I don't blame him, ours are old language, close to sanskrit, it's nice he even bothered to say stuff somewhat close. But tis true, if we try hard we can pick up on some words on the other language, but history has separated us enough that we can't actually understand each other without study.
