Totally extraordinary singer.
She had one of the most impressive and beautiful voices of all times. It is incomprehensible why many of her recordings are not available in digital format. Her legacy will be loss if we would not be for these “pirate” videos. Deutekom had a superhuman voice with beautiful tone and an amazing richness of colours. Thank you for sharing this.

Lucky Pirate!!! I knew you had more!!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!! Ever since I discovered Mrs. Deutecom, I listen to her every day while working on the computer. I've heard everything she has online, even interviews and speaking in Dutch which i understand a bit speaking German....And she has become my favorite singer, together with Flagstad, Horne and Nilsson, but number one!! Each has a different repertoire. But she has the best voice. She has this incerdibe ease and tenderness, seeming to sing softly even when she sings FFF....There's nothing aggressive in her, and she has all this generosity, drawing the notes as long as she can, never cutting them before they reach their natural end. Like wine, she seems to get better with time, and alwasy sounds fresh and young. It is unbelievable to think that she is after a heart suregry. Always cheerful, so profound yet so childlike, singing Medea, Norma and the Queen of the Night, yet also all those sweet romantic love songs. And I adore her Christmas album. A true Engel she is!!! Thanks again, please, give us more!!!! (They mentioned your name in the video from her 80th birthday, appearing under a title in Russian.) It is spiritual food!!! PERFECTION!!!
How old she was in this recording?
As it says in the introduction above under "SHOW MORE", it was taken in 1986, she ws about 55, and after a heart surgery.....Unbelivable..................................................

@@FranzBlumVan1890 Once upon a time, it was considered an important quality for sopranos. They were portraying the younger woman characters in the operas, and brightness is a sound of youth and hope, along with a dash of cheer that the young often possess easily. It was a part of the character. The modern tradition of darker voices for all operas has lost some of this pleasure to the ear. It adds a sense of somber gravity to the characters that is not necessarily true to the story.
