Yep…Iv'e done the exact same thing with my FT450D and MD100. It was a relief when I realized what I had done.

Rigs have band protection in so the allocation of bands are allowed some are not the radio will not tx on these out of the frequencys

No MD100 here but breezing through videos but that would make a nice desk mic always used hand mic for most communications ham radio and before. I purchased a ft 450 used I love the radio but tecieve alto of dwelling noise. I take else where or Mobil ok. Few things about the regular ft 450 red buttons I wonder if its possible replace keypad with white buttons from D series? 2# Radio is finicky turning on with 12-15 amp supplies even if voltage is 14.5 voltsxwont turn on but at 12.4 vdc off a gel cell battery turns on or a 20 amp lunar astron supply it works everytime? I have not seen anything onvinternet to explain. 3# the transmit alc ( not the receive alc) cuts the Raf power to much on below 50 watt setting this needs turned off is there acservice menu to adjust TX ALC? Anyways that is all thanks for tip on the 450.

Hello , I hope this message finds you very well . After obtaining my General license , back to back to back I experienced many inexplicable failures . Upon experiencing the most recent failure last night , this video , after hearing , no , immediately , the words from you , incredible loss of your Father . ALL was put into perspective , is the hobby incredible , yes , are the radios fascinating and engross our attention , yes . The sum of it ALL means absolutely NOTHING in comparison to the life and interactions with a LOVED ONE . Immediately , my Soul was calmed , immediately , ALL , was forced into its proper place . I know this video was produced for the stated purpose , however , it was explaining so much more . Prayers unto YOU and your Family , let your heart never “sink a little bit “ , Godspeed unto your Father , simply HE is seated at the right hand , DAD is in a Kingdom that has NO END . Again , Godspeed Old Friend .

Great story about your Dad, I would not part with it either, I had a FT450 and really liked it, I do recall it also not transmitting if you had a big mismatch in the antenna SWR to protect the radio.

    Hello Ed,
Thanks for your feedback on that "safety" problem. I've got the same equipment here: FT450d + MD100, I never touched the PTT hold on the top of the mic (I always used the PTT and PTT hold on the base) so it never happened to me.
I think it could happen on all modern Yaesu like FT450, FT950 and FTDX... (not sure for the FT-817/857/897).
I realy enjoy my FT450D and I'm very happy with it. The reception is fine on SSB/CW, nice DSP,... I like to operate this rig.
    73's de Adrien
PS: à bientôt sur l'air pour un petit QSO...

You won't regret it, they are lovely little radios for HF/50MHz. My one is sitting in front of me right now, and although I don't use it as much as some people would, it is still going strong and in perfect working order after nearly seven years! I'm very pleased with mine and I hope you will get as much pleasure out of your new purchase as I still do out of my FT-450. 73.

Thanks for the video, I knew that's what you where leading up to... I've done it myself many times with my MD-100 on my FT450, FT450D and FTdx1200. First time I panicked like you did.73 Roy ZL1LK

TL;DR: He had the mic button pressed when he turned it on. My FT450D problem... after running it mobile in the Texas heat, the VFO encoder started skipping, made the rig almost unusable. After some thought, I guessed that the heat had caused the silicone lube to flow down the encoder shaft and gum up the optical encoder... 40$ later I was able to confirm this. Don't leave the radio face upwards in the heat! I tried taking the encoder apart but there's no way to get it back together, the wheel is melted onto the shaft... certainly worth the price for the new part.

Thank you for the TL;DR. After 5 mins of waffle I paused the video and checked the comments for what the actual problem was.

Basically the title of the video, 'FT-450 transmit problem' is completely wrong! The radio has no 'transmit problem'... The only 'problem' is that you are unfamiliar with the buttons on your own desk mic! I have a 450D and the same desk mic. I knew before I plugged in the mic what all the buttons did - including the Tx lock function on the detachable desk mic... 🙄

If you would like to save 12mins of your life and not listen to endless blather, just hit transmit on your mic and it will stop the intermittent transmit.

So right, it seems to be a common issue with UK model humans. I wonder if it's a flaw, or design feature? Maybe send one off for factory repair and see....😅

You spoke for almost 10 minutes without explaining what the issue was and how to fix it. As an instructional video, this is terrible. Thanks for sharing, but seriously, talk less and explain more.
