Both Lol Tolhurst and Porl Thompson played keyboards on this song. The sounds of organ, marimba, musette are played on a synthesizer. No *cheesy* synth, though.

There was loads of music from 85 that was loads better than the cringe self obsessed garbage of today. When ppl talk about 80s music and say it could be released today. Sorry that's a complete insult. If most 80s music was released today it would slay everything around today. Kids today think taylor swift is good. That says it all. Even rap was so much better in the 80s. Everything today sounds the same. All just fame whores who have zero real talent or creativity just pretty puppets. That sort of stuff was for 5 year olds when i was growing up.

Creativity at its best! These guys were and are well ahead of their time!! Surprisingly unusual, unconventional and free-spirited band. Beautiful songs that will stay with us till the end of time...
Last week, first week of November of 2022 I was on my daily walk and a young woman (maybe 20-25) came up on me on her bicycle and I heard the rhythm of a song and I thought: "I know that?!?" I recognized it as the Cure, but as it so often happens I know the song and band but not he name of the tune. So, as she rides past she gets a bit farther away and she sits up and starts dancing wile riding no-handed and it made me feel incredibly joyous. The combo of the song and the woman riding to work most likely and she was grooving on life to the Cure! Just thinking about it brings a smile to my old, fully grey bearded face;-)>
I had first seen this song with this video on MTV and I was immediately in love with the video and the song. So I bought the album "The Head On The Door" and found (this has not changed until today) the minimal version without the brass section even better. That was my introduction to The Cure and I still love the video. It's simply brilliant.
One of my favorite bands of all time - saw them 3 times, once in the front row. This was one of my favorite dance songs - the girl I was with at the time was also a high energy dancer - she and I danced to this song together and the song after - "World Destruction" by Afrika Bambaataa at Caberet Metro in Chicago in 1986. We cleared the floor and the management gave us a round of free drinks for the show ! 80s had so much energy and positivity, it was freakin awesome.
I remember when at school balls the dance floor was empty and then the Dj would play this and all of a sudden the floor was full of kids my age ( 16, 17,18) jumping pushing dancing around in full excitement with no care in the world Yep I was that lucky 1988 ❤️
Thank you for putting that comment in, because I thought that only I was The One who had a breathing "enlightenment" whilst Curing myself with music because, Without Music, The World Dies...

I've waited hours for this
I've made myself so sick
I wish I'd stayed asleep today
I never thought this day would end
I never thought tonight could ever be
This close to me
Just try to see in the dark
Just try to make it work
To feel the fear before you're here
I make the shapes come much too close
I pull my eyes out
Hold my breath and wait until I shake
But if I had your faith
Then I could make it safe and clean
If only I was sure
That my head on the door was a dream
I've waited hours for this
I've made myself so sick
I wish I'd stayed asleep today
I never thought this day would end
I never thought tonight could ever be
This close to me
But if I had your face
Then I could make it safe and clean
Oh, if only I was sure
That my head on the door was a dream

I was about 3 or 4 when this song was re released in 1990 and every time it came on the TV I'd hide behind the back of the sofa. I was so scared of him I use to check if he was under my bed. Most kids are scared of monsters under their beds I was scared Robert Smith was under mine. It's funny now cause The Cure are one of my favourite bands now and this is one of my favourite song from them.
Burton inspired by himself for Edward ;)
loool
That story is absolutely hilarious!! Hahaha :' D
+Maxime but true 😂😂
+SuperDS86 that's awesome hahahaha :' )
LOVE that comb!
I really think this song describe how insomnia , claustrophobia and social anxiety feels like , yet the song is not sad or happy it's really impressive.
The Cure is itself a timeless masterpiece, I've watched- or more listened to them from the beginning, and I admire them still today. .
0:44 [Verse 1]
I've waited hours for this
I've made myself so sick
I wish I'd stayed asleep today
I never thought this day would end
I never thought tonight could ever be
This close to me
1:15 [Verse 2]
Just try to see in the dark
Just try to make it work
To feel the fear before you're here
I make the shapes come much too close
I pull my eyes out, hold my breath and wait
Until I sha-ha-ha-hake
1:37 [Chorus]
But if I had your faith
Then I could make it safe and clean
Oh, if only I was sure
That my head on the door was a dream
2:17 [Verse 1]
I've waited hours for this
I've made myself so sick
I wish I'd stayed asleep today
I never thought this day would end
I never thought tonight could ever be
This close to me
2:39 [Chorus]
But if I had your faith
Then I could make it safe and clean
Oh, if only I was sure
That my head on the door was a dream
I love how simple this song is and yet it's so powerful
I just came here to say that I love this song so very much, and I love The Cure. Thank you.
No band will ever sound like The Cure. I'm glad that The Cure exist :)
Agreed! Suprisingly (to me) their music is timeless, which I did not expect when listening to this in the 80's.
.
Most dream pop/jangle rock bands nowadays sounds quite similar to the cure but yeah youre right, no one could replicate their magic
@@GwakGwak-ct8yv yes The Killers often hint at similar tones and occasionally themes, but never quite reach it.
Unique. Pure class.
This is, without doubt one of my favourite songs. The strong feeling of intimacy, feeling snug and cosy ...
I was in my 20s when I saw the Cure open for Bowie in Denver. Best decade for music and not to mention I saw alot of great bands, cause concerts were AFFORDABLE!! LOVE YA GEN X ERS❤❤
this music will never stop being great , thank you. Congratulations on your newest release together.
They don't make music 🎶 like this anymore. I'm still going back in time wishing for an era that I can never get back.
ASMR-lovers ultimate track! Never noticed how loud the breathing was before listening with headphones. It's great, and makes the song way more visceral, together with Robert's delivery.
He’s got a look & he’s stuck with it, and I’ve stuck with the cure. Thanks Rob.
I have had this song as my ringtone since flip phones in the early 90's! Never get tired of it!
What a strange time to be alive, a group of blokes singing lyrics in a wardrobe, but that is what I love about the 80's.
I have been looking for this song since at least 8 years, I'm not kidding !!! I feel so eased now... ✊😢✌
good to see you've found the holy grail of music
marvin stevenson
Haha x)
thats because they released the other later version not the one by tim pope
I lost an address last week forgive me if I don't ask you for any ideas.
Hello
Best song from the Cure...#2 Love Song, #3 Just Like Heaven
#3 pictures of you more like.
Incredible song , this song is so real what a beautiful video clip. it’s the perfect healing when you feel alone. No wonder why they called themselves the cure.
Never thought of them as the Cure for something like loneliness, but I love that idea. 💜
Decades later, still a masterpiece... A genius blessed with an “out of this world” Voice
The most amazing thing about The Cure, this song could be released today and it wouldn't feel aged. Try to find another song from 1985 and say that. I hope they know just how incredible they are.
They are incredible, true!
Rain Dogs, Tom Waits
There was loads of music from 85 that was loads better than the cringe self obsessed garbage of today. When ppl talk about 80s music and say it could be released today. Sorry that's a complete insult. If most 80s music was released today it would slay everything around today. Kids today think taylor swift is good. That says it all. Even rap was so much better in the 80s. Everything today sounds the same. All just fame whores who have zero real talent or creativity just pretty puppets. That sort of stuff was for 5 year olds when i was growing up.
A nod to the video director in this, and so many other Cure videos. Excellent ideas and beautiful chaos!
The CURE : still one of the greatest british band . Love their style and their creative videos. Sorry for my bad english spoken. Friendly from France. Love Robert Smith and The CURE 👍🎼🎶🎸👋
And very British which is great
As an outsider Cure fan,I feel had this song been released 07/08/09 time when indie and rock bands still had a place in the top 40. This would have been a hit again. It sounds so ahead of its time.
It was of its time
The song we used to listen together. Miss u daddy
Brilliant band. I was so happy when they were inducted into the rock n' roll hall of fame.❤❤❤
My favorite CURE song!!!!
Love it!
Its so unbelievably ahead of its time
C'était tout simplement superbe... Nostalgie nostalgie...
J'adore the cure. Beaucoup de souvenirs ❤️❤️
I had first seen this song with this video on MTV and I was immediately in love with the video and the song. So I bought the album "The Head On The Door" and found (this has not changed until today) the minimal version without the brass section even better.
That was my introduction to The Cure and I still love the video. It's simply brilliant.
Thank god I grew in the 80's. Great song!!
I've heard this song countless times but watching the song video gives you a very different feeling about the song
The Cure was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2019.
This video has stuck with me since I first saw it back in the 80's. Amazing video/track/band.
Nothing better than early Cure!
Hoje 2024 e aqui no Brasil ainda vivemos esse momento único com The Cure desde os anos 80 até hoje, e não sou o único, você também esta aqui! Abraço.
I remember when at school balls the dance floor was empty and then the Dj would play this and all of a sudden the floor was full of kids my age ( 16, 17,18) jumping pushing dancing around in full excitement with no care in the world
Yep I was that lucky
1988 ❤️
A timeless song
I just love how the music in this song starts soft then gradually picks up into a cacophony of brilliance.
Excellent video... Excellent band... Wonderfull singer Robert Smith. 🎶
Mom : why are you breathing like that?
Me : wydm im singing
Thank you for putting that comment in, because I thought that only I was The One who had a breathing "enlightenment" whilst Curing myself with music because, Without Music, The World Dies...
what you do mean
I agree. I would play this song while feeling the aloneness in of my life.. I would then start to dance to express it. My rivers run very deep.
Niepowtarzalna grupa, prekursor.
Zawsze miło się ich słucha. To szczęście,że żyje w tych czasach, w których tworzyli.

Robert Smith is a genius.
This is all about being CLOSE TO ME.
One of my all time favourites this probably listened thousands of times, never grows old, never will
It's so crazy omg with earphones it seems like someone is whispering, breathing and making some mouth noises in same time x)
Without earphones too 😁
😂❤️
They are FFS.... what did you think was happening?
@@jimwolfgang9433 hey Jim what's up honey? 😂
The Cure brought me up. Timeless, listening with own teenage boys tonight and they are loved just as much as in the 90's.
