Laney GH100L Makes Owen Almost Lose His Head
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 кві 2009
- Sometimes you can tell how much Owen likes something based on how often he adjusts his glasses while talking about it -- this video perhaps being one example. The Laney GH100L may keep it simple and avoid frilly doodads that belong on your pedalboard anyway, but some pretty nice sounds can come out of this thing, as Mssr. O'Malley is happy to demonstrate. You have almost ten luxurious minutes to decide whether you agree.

I used to own one of these amps and the matching cab back in the early 90's. Great classic rock tones from this box. The one thing that was not mentioned is the Toroidal Transformer this amp has it made it very unique!
Thanks, that really helps explain the "drive boost" feature. essentially adding a potential 2nd channel to the amp (clean-gain) etc..
Helps with my decision on this amp
some people like hearing about the amp and what someone thinks....youtube doesn't make anthing sound good anyway, you need to hear it in person
@XSweeneyToddX it's also good to boost it with some OD or TS. One of the great things about this amp (i have the two channel Vh100r mysefl) is that it responds to every boost sifferently so you have a great rage of choices. Keep in mind that it also has lost of high end and middle. It's not an amp to play at home only cause you get sick of it quickly. Its; an amp for band and concerts. Then it just kills. Has imo the most selective dist ever, so you can articulate every note you play.
if it was good for iommi for years it's good for everyone :), and as he said you can control the saturation and the tone with the guitar.
amazing amp, 'im gonna buy the 50 watt version.
is it possible to play silent on this amp in flat?
How much does one of these heads run new?
@aryasridhar007 I had that feeling too when I first bought it. The trick is in the presence knob. Even for metal sounds I rarely go past 5 and there are times when I have it on 1 and still the sound is bright enough with the treble. Too much high end in this amp but it's tamed by low presence settings.
@aryasridhar007 What cabinet did you use ?
What Laney does, is give you tube options. I like older Classic Rock stuff. I just put 6L6's in my GH50L just like my Laney VC50 and it breaks up nice with more control over the tone section. Not that the EL34's weren't nice, but that's more for today's Metal Heads type Stuff. Simply great friggin amps!!
Are you using the neck mic? This amp sounds much clearer than this
i think it sounds amazing and if by any meens you want more gain just add a overdrive pedal in front of it to boost it even more :)
@thexavierproject
Master volume?
I tell you what though I watch a lot of videos hoping to hear something good come out of amps and gear, but almost every video of the laney GH100L has something good at least sound wise. And when someone good uses one it's enjoyment.
I bought a half stack back in 94? I think? my main amp! every gig I've ever played, guitarists are like "dude, what pedals you using?". none, ever. why, when the natural tone is so badass!? I've never understood why dudes put 150$ pedals in front of a 1600$ amp! still don't, the sounds in your fingers. one of my favorite amps of all time, class in early 90s tones!
nice sound... was that a bit of high and dry in the beginning?
He also uses the GT-8 quite frequently (i don't know why and why not the GT-6 etc) but i think he uses the GT-6 the most.. I confirmed the GT-6 myself by taking a look on the floor during watershed tour (WAY after the GT8 and GT-10 had been launched) etc ;)
somebody can tell me what cabinet he is using?? i think is a marshall 1960 o 1970 but i'm not sure...
Anyone know what song(s) he's playing at the beginning?
yeah man its a greatamp .i got one and a vh100r. i prefer the gh100l. sounds great with a down tuned strat
Axe-FX? He has always used Boss GT-6's :) And the Marshalls are rentals, not always his prefered amp..
@MrJohnnyDistortion Or the celestion g12H or even the vintage 30's
@Soilstar47 Mikael uses Axe-Fx processor live, and this. But he just switched to Marshall amps in the past week, no lie. I just bought this amp.
Use a proper effects unit, that way you can adjust the levels in the effect loop to get rid of the volume-difference.
@HKP1994 I'll tell ya 1 thing, everything will sound better through a cab loaded with 25 watt Celestion Greenbacks like this cab.Fir sure!
HKP youtube compressing most of the audio quality these amp reviews must be on vimeo where the quality is million time better than here
One of the loudest amps I've ever owned,
also marshall is one of the biggest and well known amp companies out there and paul could have whatever amp he wants as an endorsee so maybe a career boost not that he needs it i like his tone on the laneys way better
To be honest, those Vintage Moderns aren't too bad at all...
watch a video called vh100r metal demo by arvobravo he is an awesome player and has some awesome tones dialed in.
@ partyboy93 they are pretty much the same. and i don't think you can get a more british tone than marshall :)
i mean don't get me wrong his tone is still that paul gilbert tone but with the laneys it was more present i guess? and he didn't have to have a $3000 head to sound good
Lol so true, indie kids have their rich parents buy them a Les Paul and Marshall stack so they can be shit.
bahahaha
Less talk more rawk.
My gh100l sounds way better than the one in this video
The Bugera heads are way betterer,,,,waaaaaaay betterer.
