Still really enjoying your videos. The best thing is that your cycling is a family affair - great memories for when you get older. Btw, in Canada we just call it Tim's - everybody knows that means Tim Hortons. Try the Timbits sometime and a coffee.
100% it’s great having the full crew at the events 🙌 Ahh if we call it Tim’s in the UK no one would have a clue what we are on about 😂 we will definitely try the Timbits… I don’t think we are near one again now until July 🥲
Well done Giorgio on on a great comeback. I'm not sure if you're aware, but that second place means you will have just crept in to first place in the series standings, so you'll be gridded first at Fareham 😎Remember it's your best 4 rounds from 5 that count, so good luck for the rest of the season. That was definitely the right venue for me to bring my eMTB! Maybe I should have leant it to the Rocket😀
Thanks Richard 🙌 yes I did think that I would take the series lead… however British cycling have let me do an early upgrade to expert, so series over but the reason I asked BC was partly due to the course being cut short and race times only being around the hour mark. My goal race will likely be 1h30 later in the year so I want to be able to prepare for that, best I can and thought racing expert would help 🤷♂️ The Rocket did debate stealing it when you went to take pictures 😜😂
@@GiorgioCoppolaCycling Top man. It's much better to push yourself on and you rightly deserve to be there with your ability. This does also mean you'll be starting a minute behind Ben while he's a junior. Should he start practising looking over his shoulder? 😀
Nice one Giorgio, well done for fighting back to second place after your tumble. See you at Fareham, I'll be chopping with the old fellers on the last race of the day😃
Just interested what’s the reason for the relatively low number of entrants in all classes at the nationals ? Seems to be more in the regional races. Back in the day used to be oversubscribed with I kid you not around 300 in sports class
I can only imagine it’s the cost of doing the races… with entry, fuel, accommodation & food it becomes an expensive weekend 🤷♂️ regional racing is normally local, rock up have fun and it hasn’t cost a bomb.
Makes sense, also back in the day late 80’s early 90’s there was precious little racing just these huge events where the whole UK mtb fraternity turned up. As well as most races were point to point loops or say huge 15 mile laps so mass starts of all categories together was feasible as everyone soon spread out. The quantocks classic, Peebles, man v bike v horse and the aviemore World Cup which was epic. Miss that style of race which I why I will be doing the mtb marathons and only the odd regular xc. I invite you to challenge yourself to enter the most beautiful and epic mtb race in the world..the grand raid in Switzerland august 19. Believe me it has everything check it out ! I am doing it this year after a almost 20 years absence.
Chopper question incoming... how does an XC race finish? Say the race is 1hr long but you cross the line at 55 mins, do you finish the lap you're on? And does this mean some people do a longer race than others?
The race isn't a set amount of time, it's a set amount of laps. However, the commissaires use time to work out how many laps each category will need to race. Giorgio races in the Sport category and their races are expected to be at least an hour. This worked out perfectly at Margam Park as the winner of the Sport race completed his 5 laps in 1h01m54s. Everyone in the same category then finishes their race as soon as they get to the line. For anyone that has been lapped, this means they will complete 1 lap less, as they do not go round again to finish their race. In this race for example, the person in 20th completed their 5 laps in 1h17m47s, wheras the person in 21st got lapped, so only needed to complete 4 laps which they did in 1h03m39s. This stops the races going on too long and affecting the timetable for the following races.

@@GiorgioCoppolaCycling I’ve still got PTSD from merely spectating at Tong 😂
16,000 steps? That’s getting in Disney World territory👍
Strong effort there George
She was on a mission that morning to find coffee that’s why she got so many steps in 😂

@@RichardHowesPhotography thanks very much. Very helpful!
New to riding here. What is the meaning of being a "chopper"?
Hard to explain but I guess the easy way would be someone who is inexperienced and makes bad decisions/ makes mistakes 🤔
damn, wish i had popped over to watch the race live, margam is only half hour drive from me :( good job giorgio
You definitely should of it was a great day and also the Sunday racing looked like a great battle between the elite guys 💪
Mate, what a top effort that was after dropping it on L1. Did you find your glasses? 😎
Thanks mate! Yes thankfully someone handed them in 🙌
What time did you arrive there?....the place looked deserted and clearly no coffee available!.......great result though. Well done 👍
I think it was just before 9 as course walk was until 10… turns out the coffee shop didn’t open until 10:30 😬😂
Great comeback after chopping yourself down 😂
Congrats! I'd buy a gcn shirt from you! 😀
😂 will have to get some made for my camera ladies first 😜😂
1st time watching and I laughed my cock off. Brilliant!
😂😂 glad you enjoyed it 🙌
Good ride, that pal . You're in good form.
Get a chain catcher to stop the chain coming off
🙌 yep the chain catcher is on the to do list I just haven’t had time 😅😂
