As for the music volume going up when you're time-lapsing, Try getting a wireless mic keeping an even volume on our end from you talking and then dubbing in music. those draft arms need to be rebuilt, back in the 90s I was a road welder for a large mass excavating contractor in delaware. we had a big fleet of 631 and 637 d model scrapers and the draft arms on every one had issues. it's a major job rebuilding those things. great videos btw.

Cottontop the tree guy. Has a ram truck the dealer pulled the cab to change the wiring harness do to the transmission locking the rear wheels when turning left at 65 mph. The dealer forgot to tighten the cab bolts when he got it back. Chances are a billion to one this cab removal wont leave the cab bolts loose but it's worth a look. Love the slip thru weld in place backing plates. Tip. A 5 or 7way painters tool has a curve to squeeze paint out of rollers. A minute with a grinder puts a hook on it. Because I use it as a gasket scraper I sharpen it on a 180 grit diamond file so I can scrape gaskets without gouging the surface. If it starts to dig i resharpin it in seconds to get rid of the burrs.
That was an absolute amazing job, well done. Backingplates are not so commen, in Germany. We weld mostly open root, or juse Ceramic for the rootpass. cheers from Hamburg

I’ve learned a lot watching your channel. First, there still are hard working people out there. Second, the stick welding I’m trying to learn how to do properly is actually arc gouging because everything I try to weld I actually just blow through it. 😂
Back in the day I did my share of chasing the Crack and filling it, some were larger than others and never knew where and when they appeared but I was all ways up for the challenge 😂 Eventually it cost me a marriage so my second time around I gave up chasing cracks and settled down and am a one Crack filling man plugging away😅 As usual great contents and video❤
Try the extended reach consumables for your hypertherm, the extended nozzle works great for gouging. Better visibility and the heat isn’t as close to your hands. Great video.
The flat/satin paint is yellow Cat primer - sometimes the guy at the parts counter will give it to you on accident as the gloss Cat yellow and yellow Cat primer have similar colored tops.
This is a tough repair. If you go through, then you ruin the cylinder inside, and if you don't go through, you leave a crack that will eventually propagate back through the thickness of the pipe. You're at least buying them time because it takes a while for the crack to grow.
I watch a lot of Kurtis from CEE Australia, and he shows rebuilds of cylinders of heavy earthmoving equipment. some of the lack of maintenance is amazing the damage that gets done to those cylinders, if you have not watched him, check him out.....amazing machinist......cheers, Paul

@@OFW Does the ejector cylinder crack around the middle possibly because the rails of the ejector are out of whack around mid stroke? If they look like the rest of the machine they're probably also appreciative of attention. Use it long enough and the entire machine consists of new weld with no OEM parts, ha!
I don’t know where everyone gets their music from but if I’m listening to the local radio while working and recording I get copy right you can’t play it issues. Where do people get the music from and caboshed. If I am recording from my canon camera and upload to my MacBook I think there’s volume adjustments in there for music talking? Nice job nice truck only Miller air back I ever used was the 400 back in the 80s. Nice but out of my price range.
What advantage does the air arc give? It seems the plasma is faster and easier for gouging especially with the max removal and max control consumables, on top of that it has the bonus of being able to cut?
In my opinion the air arc is only superior in a tighter situation or when you have to gouge in a deep channel. The gouging rate of my 105 is similar to air arc on 600 amps.
Your problem is that you make it look easy..... opens the door for the armchair welders (like myself) to inject their opinions.😂 Id love to hear some observations you have on how the, "on the job" realities differ from classroom theory when a brand new fresh apprentice shows up looking to build their career.
I will say there is nothing like hands on real world experience. I have had a few guys work for me right out of welding school and it was like they didn’t learn a thing other than how to lay down a half add bead.

Plasma is an amazing tool I am using a hypertherm 105. On a plasma you have cutting consumables and gouging consumables. I was using gouging on 65 amps. On 105 amps I can cut 3” steel
Brilliant. I was like "No way you're getting a plate in th....oh wow!". Your apprentice should be paying you. Question if you see this. I keep seeing on welding forums that if you butt weld two plates together, and then grind it level, you weaken the weld, so should leave it proud. Is that true?
Technically I guess it would be slightly weaker but the problem with leaving the weld is that it’s obviously welded. Most of my customers want it to look like nothing happened.

With out replacement of peices the only way to stop the crack is to drill all the way through at the end of the crack an weld
You do not always need to drill the end of the crack If it’s gouged out correctly.

Quick question. Why do you grind down your finished welds? Also awesome idea about the backing plate trick. Youve probably done that a time or 12.
This particular customer wants everything to look Original so that’s why I grind and blend them.
