Excellent repair. Far better than OEM. Would it be worth Hard Facing the edges if the customer was willing to pay for it, or better just to replace the parts you made when they wear out? I always notice that you don't use side handles on your angle grinders. I know there are times that it gets in the way, but I would recommend using one the rest of the time. I'm old and suffering from a lot of pain and problems from years of hard work and using my body for a tractor, crane, and forklift. Save yourself.
As a 23 year old fab welder I try my best to learn from the older guys around me since I was 18 but I have a freind that's 30 has a nice shop and I help him on the weekend I love the work you do man keep on posting just found your Chanel and have a watched a few videos keep it up my friend
The plate blowing out of the hammer bottom makes me wonder if the operator runs the hammer "dry", meaning without pressing the tip onto the rock they want to break. Rock or not, all the energy/impulse has to go somewhere, so the case eats it--until it can't, and fails in short order because it's never been meant to take that abuse. Expensive operator habit that'll get someone chewed out real good, but I guess it's job security for you!
I always try to think of a way to do it when you show us what’s needed. It’s never the way you end up doing it and it’s never better than the way you do it. Another job well done.
Your customer certainly should consider himself lucky! Weekend jobs can wear you out. Nice repair job and undoubtedly a big improvement in regard to wear and tear. Thanks for the video!
Being a otr truck driver I was starting to feel for you and the amount of hours you work, until I realized that you are making conservatively 8 times what I make lol❤ I used to have a small excavation co in Tennessee until I lost it

@@HanginInSF yeah not bad considering how thunderfucked the box was on this first repair. Those assholes beat the ever living fuck out of that hammer, no greasing or fuck all lol
It's good work if you can get it, but there's a lot of weekend hours keeping these machines productive in the field. You got some really lucky customers!
Yea that may last a week or two the way they beat them up..Haha Beautiful my friend!! If that only lasts a year then the original piece only lasted a day...Your upgrade looks like the structural embodiment of bridgework...
5:45....it might have been better with oxy/fuel, but that plasma torch of yours has some serious power......I used to cut 1" with a 100 amp and it struggled.....looking good....
That kind of damage is from firing the hammer before the pecker is engaged . Saw that happen 35 years ago on a job at Dolomite , California. Operator fired on third day.
That came out so nice. I just read in the comments they wore that one out in just 7 short months. What shame. I can’t believe how hard they are on equipment. Jeeze😐 You spent so much time fixing it up for them…..
@@OFW thank you sir. Am 67 years old and have been learning to use my plasma. It doesn't cut as good as what you were doing. Going to look into another purchase. Been welding since 1972 and trying to learn the inverter technology.
I think you're undervaluing your own work. This video is now 2 yrs. old. I'd love to know if that unit is still working and don't doubt that it is. That repair was FAR superior to OEM.
So I guess the phrase - do you think you know better then the engineers that design the part - might be true, unless something else made them design this specific design....what I found - sometimes - is that making one part stronger then designed, makes another, more expensive more difficult to fix part brake....just saying ...
Just my opinion but should soften those corners some. Operators sometimes think there surgeons and try to get that point right in the correct spot before they operate. AND THAN THERES THE OTHERS THAT JUST BEAT THAT SHIT TO DEATH ....MACHINE TOO..... AND THEIR BOSS THINKS THEIR A GOOD WORKER???? KOOL VIDEO. KEEP IT UP
Amazing work sir. Would have loved to see this thing in action after you fixed it and some follow up after they abused it but as always great video and great work, keep them coming boss.👍🏼🤩🫡
Man, thats crazy how much abuse those things take. Would it have Helped to “fish plate” a bunch of hard facing rod in a criss cross pattern to help with abrasion? (I see from comments its already been worn out since this video). Good job security I guess? Lol
In this application I’m not sure how much hard facing would help meaning I’m not sure it would be worth the extra labor. They just have to realize if they are going to use it in this manner then it needs to be rebuilt every 6 months.
One thing I've noticed in your videos is you don't do near enough explanation of the work to be done and spend too much time showing the work being done in slow methodical closeups and concise wide shots
Damn! I am very impressed. When a welder takes it to the level of an artist as to what can be done with repairs you have my attention!
Let’s see that service truck and shop tour!!
I will do one of those videos soon.
On Fire Welding I bet your neighbors love you, mine love me, they love me so much they leave when I start doing anything outside😎😎😎😎

That’s the good thing about cracks. If you ignore them and let them develop, they get easier to find.

Did you ever see this hammer again? I'd _love_ to see what a year of action did to your very strong repair.
Yes. They destroyed it in about 7 months. I rebuilt it again but about 3 times as much material this time.

You can’t possibly charge your customers enough for the incredible repairs you do on them (on short notice!)
Great work improving the design. I might suggest tapering the end of the gussets to avoid stress concentration. Perhaps last 4 inches.
They destroyed it about 2 months after the video. Maybe next time.
Nice job on hammer. How long did it take them to destroy it again. I helped a welder at a friend's company repair one a dozen times
About 4 months and it was destroyed
Good work hope you got paid well for all your efforts. Don’t work too hard thanks for sharing
He's not just repairing, he's almost saying "oh, ok, here, break this"
😅
Another good one. I’m watching your stuff from new to old since I’m new. Wanna see build assembly of this But may not exist
I am addicted to your channel.....Bravo....
Would it have enhanced the bottom plate if you had 45'd the corners of the plate vs the square corners which are going wear pretty quick?
I don’t think so, they wore this one out in about 4 months.
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit. Great job!

Thank you for your Videos!! Learn something everytime.
7:40 is that a flap disk?
No, it’s a 3m cubitron sanding disc with the rubber arbor.
Brother, do a review of your truck. We don't have one in Russia
Would be nice to see it back in action.
PLenty of wear space now..
Maybe shoot some video of it back together and operating..even short clips.

Great repair and video young man!
Very nice freehand plasma work. What size of plasma cutter did you use?
Hypertherm 105

@@petermccuskey1832 I have owned several name brand plasma cutters. Hypertherm is hands down the best brand made.
Hypertherm 45XP are rated for 5/8 @ 20 inches per minute. That might be a good one to start with-if you have enough dry air.
Looks mighty fine to me, good work👍
You might want to get a Stainless steel grinding disks it cost a little more I have one on my 4 1/2 & 6" disk grinder

Funny you ask. I have rebuilt this 2 more times since this video and it was almost as bad. They will never learn.
Curious as to why ya used plasma as opposed to oxy fuel?
No particular reason. Just chose plasma

Very nice job man!

How is this rebuild holding up? You have a tough job.
It got completely destroyed in about 5 months. I rebuilt it again with more wear plates.
Is that dual shield flux core?
Dual shield.
What does it look like today?
You think if the customer had stop and fixed the crack it might have been a little easier to fix LOL be safe and have a great day Sam
Thank you 👍👍👍👍
That looked like a Cruise Industrial brass straight edge from a magnetic square.
It looks like they closed up there shop.
Bought one a few years back.
Would have liked to see it back together

Considering it was probably time to spring for a new breaker/ basher/ dozer etc there shouldn’t be any complaints.

ur a legend i dont think they realize u get the job done
Well, they hired him, so they witnessed it.
What plasma cutter are u using
Hypertherm 105
Nice cutting I still not even close to good I wear many grinding disk to make it round
Wore the end off dragging material. $$$ for you!
SWEET... great job, some of those guys beat equipment .
which is good for us!
What grade was the 1 5/8” plate?
I believe it was T-1 but that doesn’t really help with wear. They have already destroyed it again. There will be another video showing what I do.
Lots of wear on the structure of that hammer, a huge number of cycles.
Good job friend!!!
Why drag your torch??? I was taught to push it, coz you can see where you going n you get more penetration!!👍👍
I have tried both ways and I feel like I get better gas coverage when I drag. I will push it in some circumstances.
Could you weld that up
I might use the torch and slightly round those square edges as it might snag something or some one

It was destroyed in about 4 months. I rebuilt it again with thicker material. Haven’t heard anything yet.
whats your dual shield settings
I think they were 25v and 225ipm
I don't think they stoping before the end of the hammer then use it as a prying bar

they let it go to far as usual , nice work
I see that you changed from Cubitron to a flap disc in a hurry, I canst say I blame you , unless you wanted to get the hole more than "cleaned up" :)

Looks good
You need to throw the plasma away and go to oxyacetylene on the thick plate.
Wow thats some thick metal🙂

I hope you centered that hole and you don't run into surprises when trying to put the hammer back in the frame.

Why do you sound annoyed that your customers are rough on their equipment?
It just means work for you = more money...
That's a monster now, should last 18 months give or take 2 or 3.
You should have round off the corners of the plate
The rock will take care of that in no time.
Not meant to be a pry bar
need some hard facing on there all so
Why not use a piece of C Channel cut the hole pointing the c down to build as a guide not to go past it
At 30 feet and 30 mph you will never know lol

I think I would have washed it first you might find other cracks
for free hand that perfect
