I really like how you replaced the 1-1/4" ball joints with 1-3/4" heim joints and long bolt - and welded a sleeve over the joint and the shaft for extra support. That's good design and clever fabrication. Very nice.
@@johnnyrivera4213 I appreciate your point, but this KW is probably fifty plus years old. It’s obsolete (parts available won’t be very easy) and every other upgrade or repair is going to require creative work just like this deal.
I am so happy I found your channel - you are so much more than a welder. You combine the best parts of welding, machining, problem solving and practical fixing, all in one. I love to watch and thankfully since I just found youi I have a backlog to watch and enjoy. Thank you for taking the time to not only record and edit, but to teach.

This channel combines a few of my favorite channels into one! As someone in the O&M field, I'm ever so impressed with your insight, analysis and eventual repair solution. Thank you for raising the bar and taking us with you. Super clean repair, BTW!
Well young man, this video is right up there for degree of difficulty, challenge, location, problem solving, engineering skills and as such all combine to take you to the highest level of excellence in your field of work and UA-cam. What a task, a video and example of skills. I salute you young man, this was a truly epic video to watch!
For bolts stuck deep in a hole like that i carry around some 1/4 and 1/8 pipe. Stick it up in there and jam a 7018 rod inside it to weld it to the bolt. Then pipe wrench it out. Usually pretty quick and easy, usually.

I have just discovered your channel an hour ago and already I'm loving the content and the talking in between is very informative and straight to the point. No irritating music...nothing. I watch IC Weld and his (Isaac) channel is very similar to yours. 👍👌. Keep it up. I love your rigg👍
How does this happen? The tie bar breaking wasnt enough of a clue, Had to smash the rear housing into it for good measure? God what a mess, great fix and mad skills man, you have a very cool job.
The combination of different fabrication skills i.e. mig/tig welding, machining, installation, repair, opens up a wide range of possible solutions to a diverse array of applications. The same is true in other fields of engineering. If you are a control systems engineer, that's a high skill level but if you throw in embedded programming skill, the range of applications that can be attempted sky rockets. Loving your work man, you an artist with a torch. Could be a decent teacher of your craft.
Awesome repair, great to see the process and thought that went into it. Sometimes when I'm drilling overhead I'll use a scissor jack (like what you get in a small car for changing the tyre ) to push the drill once you've got a start made on the hole. You can't always do it, but when you can it saves a lot of effort. Cheers again from New Zealand!
Love your videos. Just enough how you did it, explanation, and variable things that makes things I like more doable. Because I have seen another way. I like you being willing to think outside the box and show “another way” regardless of what is there to begin with on design. Love them. Hope you keep doing them.
Not just a welding repair channel, but re-engineering and machining as well. You are very knowledgeable and very skilled. Just a suggestion. You could have doubled or tripled the rods together to fill that gap. Run it a little bit hotter for the gap. Than decrease for the cap.
Really excellent vid. Appreciate the extra effort to create the video. Think about how much a vid like this helps the young guys out there who are slugging away ..
For broken bolts... IC Weld will stick a pipe in the bolt hole up to the broken bolt stud then follow in with a new welding rod & weld the pipe & stud together then remove the pipe with a pipe wrench... he claims it works every time. It seems simple. 💪

The problem is he is beefing up the sacrificial part, now something bigger will break. The factory tie rod setup is fine and a cheap easy fix when equipment is abused. The factory tie rod failed because it was run loose allowing the threads to strip out.
Not sure the type of tapping fluid you are using, but if you can get some Castrol Moly-D......you will be very impressed.... .Molydenum DiSulfide.....seems to outlast others and gives much longer tap life, very viscous and sticks to the tap much longer....best applied with a small brush.....as it is expensive compared to a lot of others like TapMagic...it does have a distinctive smell....hope this may help you.....I have been using it for about 23 years.....cheers, Paul
