@14:12 I appreciate you talking to the smaller guys and letting us know we can still do this work. You are part of the rising tide that lifts all boats. Thank you!
Your videos make me smile thinking of my days on the scraper spreads of southern Cal. in the early 80's. Not much has changed, i am close to retirement but still in good condition, i would love to get back to the scraper spreads! Thanks for your videos, nice work!
I heard you say some folks give you a hard time about your plasma cutter. My advice is to pay no attention and say nothing about those comments. Stick to what works for you. There is always more than one way to do the job well. Thanks for sharing!
people will have, in their mind, that laying in the dirt or on the ground is some kind of impropriety... but there is NOTHING else better to make SOME project or fab work. you've got the stuff. you are next level.
Thats a solid repair. I weld on small shit compared to what you tackle. love watching it. i know you a busy guy, but i wouldn't hate a rig tour of your truck
I appreciate you taking time to make your vids. They are well made and if people pay attention they can learn something from you. Thanks for sharing your work here.
Well Done. I love seeing the CAT equipment. I worked at the Decatur IL CAT Plant for 33 yr. That is where the tractor scrapers are built. They currently build the off road trucks, the tractor scrapers, a few models of rubber tired end loaders, the 24H motor grader, and the biggest end loader.
I’m so happy you took some time too rest hunt and recharge. !!!! Please keep up the awesome videos. I’m learning so much about scrapers. Thank you so much sir !!!
Fixing the "slobber bits"! I'm a retired 623 operator. Way back from the 80's! That's messed up that they let it go so long. Those also get bent in from turning while cutting. That frog is pretty much worn out too! You do very nice work!
Very informitive thank you. It's great watching someone that really knows the're stuff. Don't know enough to say if it's a great job or not, but from my view it looked like it was a great job. Thanks for taking the time to show how it's done.
Great to have you back. Your absolutely right. Torches don't work with dirt. Great for clean, painted, oily metals like in ship or salvage yards. Watch a company having so much trouble using torches and arch gougers. To redeck the Titin dry dock 2-1/2 foot ball fields long in VA. Deck was covered in huge patches panel that were packed with rust, shot, and mud underneath. Plus it was so hot that summer. GJ! On the CAT. Top notch work there. 😉😉👍👍
Greetings from France my friend ! Amazing what you can do with a blowtorch when you have talent and intelligence ! I worked all my life in the construction sites, and I remember the complicated work that the guys did in the maintenance and repair workshops ! Bravo !
Have you tried the inserts you can get from CAT? I did a set on a 631 not too long ago. They are a lot smaller. the insert stops right before the frog so you don't have to mess with it. Come beveled nice on both sides. Just lined it up with the holes, traced my line, cut it out, and welded it 100%. Gravy
I will say the only are our rods I reuse were hollow in the oxygen went through the middle of it I've also use thermite rods that were hollow but I've never use a type of carbon rodzik I see everybody using nowadays again I am 70 years old and I did all myself under water but it's amazing how the technology has changed over the years love your video be safe and have a great day Sam
Good job! Router bits are a pain in the ass. A plasma is the only way to go. Guys talking shit on them pry dont know how to use one. We got the machine torch attachment and took the torch out of our track torch and made it into a track plasma. Great for beveling plates and ripping down steel. Twice as fast as a flame cut.
Another awesome video. Good camera positions, narration, and editing. Spot on. Hey, I thought you were going to change the default format on your camera/phone from 4:3 to 16:9 (1080P) so we get a full screen video instead of a square in the middle ??? Next time. 😁 Thanks!
You are a hard worker with alote of skills Im guessing in the years to come your skills will be even more valuable its Seems the kids now days dont want to get dirty. *** also take care of your body , back eyes everthing my father was a heavy equipment mechanic I saw what it did to his body over time
I got my first plasma back in the 80’s. For shop. Now I have 3. And I agree. If you can use it I do mostly. I did use the torch last week to cut through 8 inch’s thick. They all have there place for what you need and what the jobs is. But the plasma is way better than just the torch in lots of cases. Only Thad a torch when I strangest out in the early 70’s. Kent
Acme steel n Springfield has a template for 631 router frogs, it doesn’t look like they have changed since C model they would make them for us out of T1 back in the day for half the cost from Cat
I use my primeweld tig 225x to do my air arc using 5/32 rods at 200amps and I get it done just fine . So don't be intimidated by people who got 350s and 600 amp welders.
At the shop I worked at in high school 72-74 we used cutting torch, never recall us using air arc and we didn’t have a plasma cutter. Why switch from plasma capable of cutting 1.5 inch thick material to air arc or using air arc to clean up a plasma arc cut?
How long do those cutting edges and router inserts usually last? It's amazing how the dirt eats solid steel like I eat chocolate... Also: Plasma cutting always looks super satisfying! If I had a plasma I'd want to cut alll the things haha.
My brother, you're crazy getting under that manta, what confidence do you have in these monkeys, if you come from there you're alone and with no chance of getting out. Think carefully before taking this high risk.
Also should have flipped the router bit cause right away the back two holes are gonna get ate out. But I suppose you didn't cause they will hopefully do a complete edge flip in 80 hours or less
I'm a big fan of your videos! It looks like alot of videos are in this location on this type of equipment. Is it a mine or quarry? I'd be interested to know what your customers do there. Thanks and keep up the great videos!
How many amps does your plasma pull wide open? I know a lot of generator ends wont pull over 60 amps good ...I got educated on what electricians call "dirty" electricity ...thanks great video
On the inner plate, that inside triangle you said couldn’t be welded back, would welding a bar in he horizontal plate that would extend out past the router. Take a small slice out of the router that would let the router slide over extended horizontal plate. Then weld. You get hat area welded. Hope this makes sense. Feasible?
Seems a small electric, low volume, high pressure pressure washer would come in handy. Maybe a micro steamer, if anyone makes one, maybe convert a Turkey fryer to boiler for a little pressure washer, just a stainless coil on the burner, after the pressure washer. Maybe take up a 2'x2' patch 3'-4' tall including hoses, use 25gph or less, its not to was whole vehicle, but degrease work areas, the greased joints is a good example, just a idea, not a requirement, but could be nice to have!
@@OFW that’s awesome I been welding for 24 years and have been to food plant oilfield shops but man there is something about heavy equipment. You located here in cali correct. Up north?
So in that concealed area where there was noway to access for welding, why not drill a hole in the middle and then weld the exposed edges? I’m a newby and am just wondering?
i know i am late seeing this video, but i am curious. how will California's 'small gas engine ban" effect you? love your videos, new subscriber. i was a Maint Tech for 25 years at Snapper Power Equip. in McDonough GA before Briggs shut us down.
I use my primeweld tig 225x to do my air arc using 5/32 rods at 200amps and I get it done just fine . So don't be intimidated by people who got 350s and 600 amp welders. That's a badass plasma cutter you got what kind is that?

Nice to see you back! Not gonna lie was kinda wondering what happened but all excused for deer hunting lol. What kind of settings/wire size you running?

Very neat, I have spent a lot of time this harvest fixing cultivators as the dry ground has cracked/torn them up.

Nice to have you back!
I see another job coming, changing the cutting edge...

To bad you don't know any blacksmiths. They would love that steel. Good stuff for all kinds of projects.

The piece I replaced can last years if the router is replaced at the right times.
Also depends on the material you're working in.
I wish you'd do a video just on your truck and how it's equipped.
My brother, you're crazy getting under that manta, what confidence do you have in these monkeys, if you come from there you're alone and with no chance of getting out. Think carefully before taking this high risk.
It’s on Jack stands and I am very aware of the situation.
Very cool. Surprised you didn't weld the cracks on the side wall above the plate on the inside

Nice job brother.
What size wire are you using?
1/16”
Real welders know a plasma cutter is 5 times’ more effort than a torch. Too all you arm chair critics. I’d like to see you do this job. Good luck.

He was out of town on another job.
How many amps does your plasma pull wide open? I know a lot of generator ends wont pull over 60 amps good ...I got educated on what electricians call "dirty" electricity ...thanks great video

Missed you. Anyone talking shit about plasma has never used one or only ever used a $200.00 Chinese special.
I love to weld by Spray at 400A... I would like to feel how it's to gouge at 600A.
